LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has advised PML-N President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, to undergo his coronavirus test from Shaukat Khanum Hospital or the Agha Khan Laboratory other than Chughtai Laboratories, reported The News.
NAB sources while rejecting allegations levelled by PML-N leaders that Shehbaz contracted coronavirus during his appearance before NAB’s Combined Investigation Team, said all safety protocols were adopted during the PML-N leader’s appearance.
Moreover, NAB expressed reservations over Shehbaz testing positive for COVID-19 in a single night.
Sources added that Shehbaz was due in an accountability court on Thursday and charges were to be framed against him but it could not happen. They added the whole episode was doubtful and needed an explanation.
PML-N leaders, while addressing a press conference on Thursday, had said Prime Minister Imran Khan and NAB would be held responsible if anything happened to Shehbaz after the party confirmed the former Punjab chief minister tested positive for COVID-19.
PML-N representative Ata Tarar said that despite informing NAB several times that Shehabaz was a cancer survivor and was at risk from COVID-19, he was summoned by the anti-graft body.
"This was a well thought out plan to put the lives of all these people [PML-N leaders] in danger," he said, blaming the 'NAB-Niazi nexus' for putting Sharif at risk of contracting coronavirus.
PML-N leader Azma Bokhari said Shehbaz came back to face everything. "Did Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz not return after the decision was taken [against them]," asked Bokhari.
"Did Shehbaz Sharif not return to the country? He came back to face everything," she added, saying that PM Imran's ego had still not been satisfied.
Bokhari rejected allegations that the party had not taken proper precautions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the PML-N had not held any public gathering even when it planned on pushing for protests against the government this year as it considered 2020 the "year of the election".

Shehbaz Sharif recovers from coronavirus, tests negative
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has recovered from the coronavirus.
The party's spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the result of Shehbaz's latest test had come back negative. "By the grace of God and the nation's prayers, Shehbaz Sharif has tested negative," she said in a statement.
The PML-N president had tested positive on June 11 and had isolated himself at home.
Shehbaz Sharif could be disqualified if Nawaz does not return, says Chohan
(Karachi) Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif could face disqualification if Nawaz Sharif did not return back to Pakistan.
Addressing a press briefing in Lahore on Wednesday, he said that Shehbaz Sharif spoke lies about Nawaz’s return. “Everyone knows that Shehbaz Sharif guaranteed Nawaz’s return from abroad once his treatment is over,” he said.
Chohan highlighted that the PML-N president had guaranteed Nawaz Sharif’s return after eight weeks as ordered by Lahore High Court (LHC).
“Shehbaz Sharif lied to the nation as he had submitted a draft of the undertaking to the Lahore High Court about Nawaz Sharif’s return after eight weeks,” he added.
Earlier, Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Shahzad Akbar said PM Imran Khan won’t even give NRO to the Opposition and would bring back Nawaz, his children and Ishaq Dar.
The former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had left the country for his treatment on certain conditions but none of these had been fulfilled, Akbar said.
He stated Nawaz Sharif was permitted to get medical treatment from abroad subject to his return to the country within the stipulated time frame. He said the former premier was bound to submit his periodical medical reports and updates to the court as well as to the Punjab government but he failed to do so.

I bet Maryam will be the happiest person in PK if her rival gets disqualified.
Rival is what they want us to believe when they are just playing good cop and bad cop.
I bet Maryam will be the happiest person in PK if her rival gets disqualified.
Pretty much, as a lot of infighting in PMLN between her and SS as to who should lead the party.
and yet the likes of the Sharifs and Zardaro’s and their supporters call IK the selected one...
PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that although Prime Minister Imran Khan is "yearning" to see him "go to jail", it is what he considers "a small price to pay" in the service of the nation.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he vowed that he and party supremo Nawaz Sharif "stand by Pakistan" and will "play their role to get the country back on track".
"We have struggled in the past and will continue to do so. Even if we have to go to jail we will, it is not a big price to pay," he said.
Shehbaz warned that in the event he goes to jail, "as is Imran Khan's yearning", his fellow party members will bring forth "the entire project". "If I remain free, I will bring it to light," he added.
"We never kicked up a fuss over it before but we will address this now and are preparing a plan of action," he said, referring to the government's accusations against various members of the party, pertaining to corruption and misuse of power, besides a litany of other charges.
The PML-N leader made no other mention of the nature of the revelations he plans to "bring forth".
"Two years have passed and Pakistan's people are disappointed and have had it with this selected government," Shehbaz said, adding: "The writing is on the wall over what good they have actually done us."
"We were promised billions of dollars worth of development and rivers of milk and honey," the PML-N leader said. He said is compelled today "to must speak on behalf of this country's poor".
He said it was a matter of great regret that the price of sugar which was at Rs50 in Nawaz's tenure is at Rs100 now.
"Wheat and wheat flour was a commodity that was easily found everywhere and in abundance and now it is nowhere to be found," he said.
"Our pockets are empty [...] we cannot get our hands on diesel," Shehbaz went on to say.
Referring to the Baldia factory fire tragedy, he said that if the current trends continue, a similar fate awaited Pakistan's economy.
The opposition leader said that the government representatives "are only busy in hiding their scandals [...] their foreign funding account is an open and shut case".
"If the ECP (Election Commission of Pakistan) brings the facts forth, the prime minister will not be prime minister for even one second," he claimed.
Shehbaz said that despite the passage of "years", a verdict in the matter had not been announced.
"I want to say that they have levelled baseless accusations on PML-N and sought to get their revenge but they have still not had their fill. The NAB-Niazi nexus have broken all records of filing cases against us," said the PML-N leader.
He said "the whole nation knows the truth" behind the narcotics probe against PML-N's Rana Sanaullah.
"On the other hand, no one is ready to talk about Aleema baji's assets abroad. She comes with protocol to the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) office".
Shehbaz said that no one is without fault and he admits that, but stressed that the PML-N had "worked day and night" for Pakistan and "every kid even is witness to this".
He asked why there was no probe into the Malam Jabba case and what happened to the "helicopter" inquiry.

Gravel seller adds to list of ‘fake accounts’ of Shehbaz family
Another astonishing disclosure was made in the money laundering inquiry against the Shehbaz Sharif family as thousands of dollars were found to be transferred through the accounts of a poor person who sold gravel and bricks, NAB documents revealed on Monday.
The accused, when approached, expressed ignorance about the matter.
On December 6, 2010, $45,450 were transferred to Suleman Shahbaz through Al Zarooni Exchange, Dubai, using the accounts of Pervez Phulphutto – a resident of interior Sindh who sells gravel and stones to earn a living, the NAB statement said.
Giving details about himself to the anti-corruption watchdog, Phulphutto said that he had been to Saudi Arabia only once for performing Umrah, while he has never visited any other foreign country.
He said his monthly income was between Rs25,000-30,000 and that he had never seen an amount of $45,000 in his life.
Phulphutto said he was a stone seller and hardly made his ends meet.
Refuting the claim of having any personal or business contact with the Shehbaz family, he said Suleman Shahbaz had fraudulently used his name and transferred the funds.
He demanded of the anti-graft buster to proceed against the Shehbaz family.
Earlier, the NAB had revealed that the accounts of cracker sellers, hawkers and labourers were used by the Shehbaz family to transfer hefty amounts.

NAB seizes assets of Shehbaz’s family members, others in money laundering case
LAHORE:The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday seized assets of six accused, including family members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, in a money laundering case.
An accountability court in Lahore resumed the hearing of the case today. The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and his son Hamza Shehbaz were produced before the court by jail authorities.
During the hearing, the Lahore director-general NAB submitted a report before the court through the investigating officer.
According to the report, NAB seized the assets of Shehbaz’s wife Nusrat Shehbaz, son Suleiman Shehbaz, daughter Rabia Imran and son-in-law Haroon Yousaf.
Shehbaz prayed upon the court that he was suffering from a backache and his medical check-up for cancer and his stomach was also due.
“I was given my [previous] medical reports after one month,” Shehbaz complained. “The decision of life and death is taken by God, but this is just political revenge being taken on the behest of someone else.”
After hearing Shehbaz’s arguments, the judge remarked that Shehbaz should provide details of his complaints in writing to the court. “I will conduct a separate hearing on them,” the judge said.
Lawyers for Shahbaz and Hamza completed the cross-examination of a NAB witness, after which the court summoned two more witnesses, Ibrahim Malik and Muhammad Sharif, to record their statements and adjourned the hearing till January 4.
On December 9, an accountability court had declared the PML-N president's wife an absconder in the money laundering and assets beyond means case.
During the case proceedings, the prosecutor stated that one month had passed since the summons were issued but Nusrat failed to appear before the court.
Shehbaz’s son, daughter, and son-in-law among others have already been declared absconders in the case.
In November, one of the approvers against Shehbaz in a money laundering and assets beyond means case claimed that he carried out 24 money laundering transactions for the Shehbaz family between 2008 and 2009.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif and Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar traded barbs on Tuesday, with the former claiming that the country's economy was being pawned away for $1 billion and the latter slamming the PML-N for leaving the economy in dire straits.
The exchange took place on the floor of the NA as the House began a debate on the controversial Finance (Supplementary) Bill, generally known as the mini-budget.
The bill is one of the requirements Pakistan has to meet under the programme agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July 2019. If passed, the legislation will pave the way for the disbursement of a $1bn tranche.
As the matter was taken up for debate in the NA, Shehbaz questioned how it was possible for the country to be an atomic power on one hand and be holding a begging bowl in the other.
"The finance minister had said that Imran Khan would stand up to the IMF [...] he had said that a mini-budget would not be introduced and that there would be a tax-free budget. But seven months later, what has happened?"
He said that the PTI government only excelled in making U-turns. He said that taxes worth Rs350 billion were being imposed on the people who were already facing inflation and unemployment.
Assailing the government, the PML-N president said that the ruling PTI had drowned the country's economy and was also endangering its security.
He called on the government to withdraw the controversial finance bill. "We have our political differences ... but bring another bill and we will support that."
Shehbaz warned that the opposition would protest in the house and "on the roads" if the government tried to bulldoze such a bill. "They are selling out Pakistan's economy and freedom for $1bn."
He said that a nation that was habitual of begging could never progress. "Handouts, aid and dole outs will never be able to strengthen a society and make it stand on its own two feet ... for that you have to work hard."
He said that the PTI used to claim that it couldn't see any poverty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, their recent defeat in the local government elections must have opened their eyes, he said.
Shehbaz said that the country's citizens don't have money to pay their children's school fees, but the ruling party was oblivious to the issues being faced by the middle-class.
"The day is not far where a horde of people, frustrated due to poverty, unemployment and inflation, will descend and sweep away the country's most inefficient and corrupt government."
He accused the government of ignoring the opposition's input due to "ego". "They consider themselves Einstein."
Giving the example of bills related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Shehbaz said the opposition had set aside differences and supported the government on multiple occasions in the wider interest of the country.
"But in return slogans of 'robbers and dacoits' were raised [against us]," he said, adding that this "polluted the society".
Responding to Shehbaz's criticism, Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said the leader of the opposition began his tirade by saying that the nation was being enslaved to the IMF.
"Probably the news hasn't reached him yet that his government sealed deals with the IMF four times," he said.
The minister went on to say that Shehbaz should also recall the situation at the end of the PML-N's tenure.
"I was standing in this same hall. Those were the early days of 2018," he said, adding that PML-N's Miftah Ismail was the finance minister at the time.
"In this hall, I had said that the economy was drowning, that the Titanic was about to hit an iceberg. And Miftah Ismail had agreed," Umar said.
"These were the streams of milk and honey that they left behind," he said.
Moreover, the minister said, the opposition had advised that work be initiated on a charter of economy and "it be signed by all".
But when PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister, the government never signed a charter of economy with the opposition, he said.
"Still, we may sit and talk with them (the opposition)," he continued. "But what will we learn from them? How to launder money through TTs (telegraphic transfers)? How to recover billions of rupees from the accounts of employees whose salaries are Rs15,000 to Rs20,000 per month? Or how Pakistan's prime minister invites disrepute from across the world after Panama Papers [leaks]?"
Umar further said the opposition leader had criticised the government over "choice of words".
"(Shehbaz) said that PM Imran calling political leaders robbers had destroyed politics in Pakistan," he said, recalling that PML-N leaders, including Nawaz, had used inappropriate words for former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in the past.
He also mentioned a leaked audio clip of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and PML-N leader Pervaiz Rasheed wherein inappropriate language was used for journalists.
Umar added that Shehbaz had claimed that his party was ready to support the government on bills pertaining to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
"Just to remind him and the nation, the FATF had placed Pakistan on the grey list during the PML-N's tenure," he said. "And, I challenge them on this floor ... they had opposed the bills."
He concluded his speech by comparing economic data from the PML-N's tenure with that of the PTI government, saying that the country's economic growth year this year would surpass the estimated target.
