What's new

Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of 2019 World Cup, to be replaced by Rishabh Pant [Update Post #189]

BD won't be easy. i expect that game to be close one, especially if India experiments. I think India will play their best team against them and keeping their experimentation for AFG and SL.
Oh yes, I meant Afg,WI before Eng, followed by BD, SL. BD will be the second toughest

How is Pandya different from Robin Singh then? Robin was a good fielder too, used to hit big shots sometimes and was a timepass bowler like Pandya. :inti

Pandya is lot younger and if we have patience we can groom him to become a good player in his mode (Seam-bowling alrounder which is a rarity in Indian Cricket! Much better than Imran Tahir who became a respectable spinner for South Africa after he started reaching 40, where "spinner" is a rare-bread...! There was a joker called Omar Henry playing for South Africa who was the only likable character for Indian fans in a tough South African tour wherein batting against him was the only enjoyable factor in that series! But I don't think even South Africans mock their spinners as much you do against Pandya & co. So you know teams do need such players and they will have to play!)

I don't think Robin Singh won any Test match outside/inside India! I do believe he brought some balance to the team for brief period! You don't need to set low standards always! We can find more improved versions of Pandyas is future if we trust & back them without putting them down!

We have actually not seen the utility of Jadhav in this tournament (especially his batting) because the Top Order is again firing for India so far! So it won't be a bad idea to promote him at No.3 or No.4 to see what he can do and give some match practice (against the easier sides! We need not experiment with selecting the players in any of the match, we can select the same players but we can utilize them differently!)

K l rahul now becomes the most important player for india.Im depressed as a fan losing gabbar.Feels like the cup is gone.

Jadhav and Vijay Shankar are better than Pant. This is ODI world cup , not T20 IPL.

I'd play this line up for rest of the games
Kl
Rohit
Kohli
Pant
Dhoni
Pandya
Shankar
Kuldeep
Shani
Chahal
Bunmrah
No place for Jadhav

Pant should not get a game LMAO, he should stay as a back up bench warmer behind rubbish Karthik to provide India tips to beat Afghanistan for the epic finale of "THE swimming world championship of 2019" like Afghanistan has ever seen rain in their life time.

Most important player? :-p
Rohit and kohli fails one match and india will crumble...so far we need him to do atleat 80% of what we expect from dhawan.if not 100+ he atleast need to play eith SR of 90-100.

Most important playerd for us now are rohit and kohli they need to keep india with atleast 6 RR till over 35-37 for middle order to slog in remaining.

Apart from pandya there is no slog in middle, if thrre is pant instead of one of jadhav or shankar then top 3 fires india can easily put 350

But since shankar bowled good v pak,he wont be replaced and thus making it so confusing.that leaves us with only one player pant can replace - jadhav
Since none of bowlers will br replaced(maybe shami in for bhuvi)

Jadhav hasnt done anything wrong ,but he sure isnt someone who can score 25-30 ball 50 ,wethere pant fire or not is point to be seen but he sure can slog better than anyone in team.

My XI would be,

Rahul
Rohit
Kohli
Shankar
MSD
Pant
Pandya
Kuldeep
Chahal
Bumrah
Shami

>Shankar and msd sure cant slog as good as pant-pandya so if we lose early wicket shankar-dhoni can control till sloggers can push
>If top3 plays good then better have pant pandya then dhoni and put shankar in last

Big blow for india.
Shikar is a big icc tournament player!
Wish him the best, he must be gutted!
Don't be fooled by paks pathetic display against india, the top teams will take advantage of shikars absence!

India will suffer a top order collapse sooner or later. I hope this top order collapse, if it has to happen, takes place the soonest, viz in the next match against Afghanistan.

Yes. That will happen. Hopefully it won't be in the biggest match of this tournament in the later stages.

Jadhav has helped us in a chasing a mammoth 350 plus runs against England while scoring at a faster pace than even Kohli. I am pretty sure he is capable of helping us to reach 350 plus while batting first.
Pant has not proven anything in ODIs and so I dont think anyone want to risk him in a bloody worldcup in place of a proven performer. Plus Jadhav can bowl too.

The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 has approved Rishabh Pant as a replacement player for Shikhar Dhawan in India’s squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Opener Dhawan, who suffered a thumb injury during the league match against Australia, has been ruled out of further participation in the event.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 consists of Geoff Allardice (ICC, ETC chairman), Campbell Jamieson (ICC representative), Steve Elworthy (CWC representative), Alan Fordham (host representative), Harsha Bhogle and Kumar Sangakkara (both independent representatives).

So Dhawan finishes his ICC tourney career the way he started. With a gun century against a gun opponent.

Ultimate clutch game raiser.

Aww life would be much easier for you if all the people in the world shared your opinion or whatever you draw becomes reality isn't it? Learn to accept different opinion. No need to attack people for having different opinion than yours. :inti

It is just his irrational hate towards IPL heroes. Pant has a wonderful start to his test career and Pandya has done well in his designated role. Neither of them are world beaters yet but both can influence matches. Both are great additions but always irrationally mocked by that poster

How is that supposed to make me feel? :87:

Another dumb post. If they are not world beaters why can't they be criticised or why should they be liked by everyone? Pant was not the find of IPL so kindly cut your cr@p.

He played like a tullaybaaz in whatever chances he got in ODIs and only getting into team because of Dhawan's injury. I don't have to like him for his tullaybaazi just like fans who don't like Vijay Shankar for his batting, bowling and fielding.

Obviously you are another hypocrite who will remain silent when Vijay Shankar (who has done well in limited chances) is hated by some fans but jump on me if I don't like the superstars you worship lol. :inti

why anyone want Pant in the XI?? sure he can score quick 30s but he can't bowl and his fielding is most probably bad (by the look of his keeping)..

and TBH Pant won't be in the XI ahead of DK and Jadeja so I think India missed a trick here... should've replace Dhawan with a bowler...

Kedar Jadhav has batted most of his domestic career at No. 4. In ODIs, he averages 53 when he had to come in before the 30th over. I don't understand why he isn't sent up the order especially when we've had such an issue finding a good No. 4. He's more suited to that position than No. 6.

Don’t know why Pant has been added to ur squad only to sit on the bench.

Disgraceful

Defeat to Afghanistan should be blessing in disguise.

Most pathetic batting lineup in this WC beyond Rohit and Kohli.

Worse than Nepal.. how can any fan accept such mediocrity is beyond me. Anyone who supports such mediocrity is not an Indian fan and doesn't want team to do well.
