Shireen Mazari announces she is quitting the PTI and active politics

Struggling to understand what was the establishments plan of conspiring against the pti and backing the PDM in the no confidence vote saga.

Also struggling to understand what the PDM larger plan is? Did they honestly expect they will get away with their ghunda gardi, mafia style behaviour unchecked? This entire saga has brutally exposed the PDM of being all talk in the opposition in the last 3.5 years and that pti actually did a much better job than given credit for during this time because this PDM troika is way more incompetent and impotent than actually portrayed by the sell out media. Even their loyal sell out anchors like Ghareeda can no longer defend their incompetence, lack of decision making and understanding while interviewing senior PML-N leaders on TV.

Also does Bajwa seriously think the army is going to continue to let its reputation go to the toilet just because of him alone?

Imran got played like a fiddle by Putin. He invited him to Moscow with a begging bowl and the next day he launched the biggest war Europe has seen since WWII.

That was the beginning of the end for him. He was backed into a corner and he had no choice but to criticize U.S.

Imran rubbed the U.S. the wrong way and you cannot survive as a Pakistani PM when you do that. This whole “conspiracy” is a load of nonsense - it is just a manufactured lie by PTI.

If the U.S. would conspire against the government, why would they inform the ambassador? Only PTI supporters can fall for this laughable nonsense.

Bajwa and the military nexus had to kick him out because they cannot afford a Pakistani PM that adopts an anti-US narrative.

This is why they backed PDM and Bajwa’s men broke into the PM house and slapped Imran around when he refused to leave.

The Pakistani military will ensure that Imran never becomes the PM again. They recognize their mistake and have realized that backing a volatile, unpredictable and destructive individual like him was too risky.

This is also a reality-check for PTI supporters who denied the involvement of military in politics. They called it propaganda and did the “same page” nonsense. They were doing bhangra on ISPR songs and paid no heed when they were told that one day, Imran will also face the heat from the military.

Would this be the same Imran Khan that Bilawal Bhutto is indirectly praising regarding the policy about Russia/Ukraine?

Would this be the same Imran Khan that Bilawal Bhutto is indirectly praising regarding the policy about Russia/Ukraine?

Bilawal is proving himself to be a mature politician. Everyone including him knows that it was a massive blunder by Imran to go to Russia and it exposed his naivety.

But Bilawal also understands that there is no point criticizing the previous PM on an international forum because it only makes the country look bad. This is something that Imran never understood - for him, it was always about Imran and not Pakistan.

PTI supporters also don’t know how to respond or react to this act of maturity and grace by Bilawal. He has left them speechless. Had Bilawal criticized him, there would be a dozen threads on PP and PTI supporters would be jumping up and down and mocking his Urdu accent. Now it is pin-drop silence.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has noted that the law-enforcement agencies and their officials have consistently violated the fundamental rights by abusing their powers and thus undermine the rule of law.

The court also said that the arrest or incarceration of a member of parliament in the absence of compelling reasons would obviously not be justified since it allows the constituents to go unrepresented and thus their rights are violated.

“It has, therefore, been held that allowing constituents to go unrepresented offends their constitutional rights,” says an eight pages written order, authored by Chief Justice Athar Minallah regarding protection of PTI MNA Shireen Mazari.

On Saturday, Mazari, a senior PTI leader and former human rights minister, was allegedly manhandled, and arrested from outside her home in Islamabad over a case that involved the ownership and transfer of land.
Her daughter, lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, tweeted that male police officers had “beaten” and taken her mother away.

Later, Imaan filed a petition in the IHC against the arrest. Chief Justice Athar Minallah ordered the authorities concerned to produce the former minister before the court.

The order said officials who appeared before the court were unable to justify the arrest. It stated in the past there had been several instances of allowing the constituents to go unrepresented by depriving the parliamentarians of their right to liberty.

The court said that the detention/arrest of Dr Mazari was, prima-facie, an abuse of power by the public functionaries, arbitrary, illegal and unlawful and for other than bona fide reasons.

If the policy is so wrong and is hurting Pakistan's interest, is it not his job to fix it? Or could be, and I am just putting it out there, his mature mind has realized that Imran Khan's position was actually right.

Anyways this thread is about Ms Mazari but feel free to answer me without your usual attempts to throw in some click-bait comments.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari on Tuesday claimed that as the human rights minister in the previous government she was asked to appear at the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarters over a bill pertaining to enforced disappearances.

The former human rights minister made the revelation while speaking to the media at the National Press Club in Islamabad where she also spoke of her recent arrest.

"I have always taken a position against enforced disappearances," she said, adding that the former government had also drafted a bill in this regard. She said that former premier Imran Khan had wanted the bill to be tabled in parliament and had asked the ministries to see whether it came under their rules of business.

"That evening I got a phone call asking me to appear at the ISI headquarters [...] I went and I said that we had signed international conventions."

She went on to say that after the bill was tabled in the National Assembly, it was referred to the interior committee where "invisible shadows" tried to change the clauses. She said that the amendments were passed by the assembly, regretting that it "disappeared" on the way to the Senate.

"My position is very clear regarding enforced disappearances," she said, adding that Imran had also voiced his opposition from the beginning. "He always used to go to Amna Janjua's protests."

"We have also taken a position against this in our manifesto and will take the same position in the next one. But you know there are so many powers that stop bills [from being passed]," she said, adding that the journalist protection bill was also passed with "great difficulty".

"You don't know how it was passed, what obstacles we faced," she said. On a lighter note, she added that she would reveal all these details if and when she wrote a book.

This is not the first time the former minister has spoken of the disappearance of the missing persons bill. In January, she told media persons at the Ministry of Human Rights that the bill had gone missing after being sent to the Senate.

Establishment suffering from 'Mazari phobia'
Talking about her recent arrest, the former minister asserted that it was a case of "kidnapping and disappearance".

"They dragged me from the car, put me in a white Vigo and headed towards the motorway," she said, alleging that officials also seized her phone and wallet. Mazari said that she believed the officials were trying to take her "somewhere in Punjab".

She claimed that the officials were looking for a magistrate to complete the documentation as they did not have any grounds to arrest her. The PTI leader said that her daughter, lawyer Imaan Zainab Hazir-Mazari, was understandably upset over the events and took the name of army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during a press conference.

"My daughter was upset as her mother had disappeared. She did a press conference where she took the name of General Bajwa and used a certain word. Now petitions and FIRs are being filed, saying she is against the national interest and that it is terrorism."

"Seems like the establishment is currently suffering from Mazari phobia," she added.

Speaking about the corruption case against her, she termed it "political victimisation", saying she was never informed of the charges or asked to provide a clarification and that her name only surfaced during the investigation process.

She said that one of her acquaintances, a former official of Punjab's Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), had advised her to "go easy" on the establishment.

She quoted the official as saying that sham cases were being created against her. "He said he stopped them when he was in the ACE, saying they were false and should not be pursued. He then received a phone call telling him to not get involved ..."

She also questioned why officials seized her phone following her arrest. "The establishment would want information but the ACE would have not gotten any information from my phone."

Further, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights discussed the recent arrest of Shireen.

The committee, which met here with Senator Walid Iqbal in the chair, was informed by the Islamabad Capital Territory police that they only provided assistance in the arrest of Shireen on the request of the Punjab Anti-corruption Department which they (Islamabad police) received through the office of the Islamabad chief commissioner.

Islamabad SP City Kamran Khan briefed the committee on the limited role of the Islamabad police in this regard.

The Ministry of Interior informed the committee that the request from the Punjab Home Department was received directly by the Islamabad administration and that the ministry had nothing to do with the matter.

It was informed that a summary for formation of a judicial commission, as directed by the Islamabad High Court, had been moved by the ministry.

The Punjab anti-corruption director informed the committee that Shireen was accused of violating the rights of 310 families. “The department is ready to defend the case in the judicial commission.”

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday granted lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir pre-arrest bail till June 9 in a case related to "abusing and defaming the senior command of the Pakistan Army".

Her pre-arrest bail application, which was filed by Advocate Zainab Janjua, was heard by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against Mazari-Hazir on May 26 at the capital's Ramna police station on the complaint of Lt Colonel Syed Humayun Iftikhtar, who was representing the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch of the General Headquarters (GHQ).

The JAG branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces is composed of the military's senior officers, lawyers and judges who provide legal services to the army, air force, navy, and marines at all levels of command. It falls under the law directorate of the army.

She has been booked under sections 505 (inciting people against armed forces) and 138 (Abetment of act of insubordination by soldier) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR said that Mazari-Hazir had made a "derogatory and hateful" statement on May 21, the day her mother, former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, was arrested from outside her house in a land ownership and transfer case.

A video of a visibly distraught Mazari-Hazir was later shared on social media in which she could be seen making statements about Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The FIR against the lawyer said her statements led to "ridicule and created hatred within the Pakistan Army, while also causing unrest within the institution".

It also said Mazari-Hazir's "act" reflected her intent to cause fear and alarm among the public "thus inducing to commit offence against the state".

Later, challenging the FIR, the lawyer representing Mazari-Hazir said her client was being made a "victim of ulterior motives and highhandedness of the complainant and others, who are highly influential".

"The FIR is ill-founded and allegations are absurd," the petition said.

The court admitted her plea and granted Mazari-Hazir pre-arrest bail for two weeks.

Its pretty natural for a child to be distressed when her mother is roughed up while being picked up by security forces without explanation, due process of law. Surely our courts can be compassionate in these situations.

Re the FIR registered against Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir relating to "abusing and defaming the senior command of the Pakistan Army", if Gen Bajwa and the top brass are reading this, please leave your address on this thread and I will happily send you a teddy bear to assuage your feelings of being abused and defamed.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government Monday informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that a judicial commission will be formed today to probe the arrest of PTI leader Shireen Mazari.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition against Mazari's arrest during which the former human rights minister and the petitioner— her daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir — appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the additional attorney-general told the court that a summary has been sent for the formation of the commission. "Hopefully, the commission will be formed today," he told the court.

The court has adjourned the hearing till June 16.

IHC directs federal govt to carry out judicial inquiry

On Sunday, May 22, the IHC had ordered the federal government to carry out a judicial inquiry related to Mazari's arrest.

The IHC noted that the arrest was "illegal" and ordered an immediate release of the PTI leader, asking the authorities to return the ex-federal minister’s phone to her which had been confiscated at the time of the arrest.

Mazari claimed that the police did not show her the arrest warrants before taking her into custody, adding that she believed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah were behind her arrest.

The arrest
Punjab’s anti-corruption department had arrested the ex-human rights minister on May 21 in Islamabad, according to Islamabad Police, in a case pertaining to land encroachment.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday said that the complaint lodged against lawyer Imaan Mazari by a state institution should have been withdrawn after the accused had her statement recorded in the case.

The Pakistan Army had filed a first information report against Imaan for “abusing and defaming” the army and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa. However, the IHC granted Imaan pre-arrest bail till June 9 in the case.

Imaan has been booked under sections 505 (inciting people against armed forces) and 138 (abetment of act of insubordination by soldier) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Hearing a petition seeking the dismissal of the case, the court issued notices to the station house officer (SHO), the investigating officer and the complainant.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that in her statement, Imaan had written that the comments on which the case was based were unintentional and she was stressed at the time.

He also asked the defendant whether she had explained herself to the police after becoming a part of the investigation. In his reply, the advocate stated that Imaan had joined the investigation and had answered police questioning.

“We have written in our statement that we did not make any statement against the Pakistan army,” the advocate said, reiterating that the petitioner’s mother had been arrested due to which she was stressed on that day.

Chief Justice Minallah stated that the petitioner had written a clear statement, and as a respectable state institution, the complainant should withdraw its complaint.

The case was then adjourned till June 9.

PTI seeks UN intervention over govt 'crackdown'

ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sought on Wednesday the intervention of the United Nations against the alleged harassment by the federal government of the PTI workers and leadership and “politically motivated” cases against the former ruling party.

In a letter written to the High Commissioner for Human Rights by PTI leader and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, the party led by Imran Khan demanded “independent and impartial investigations into these state excesses and human rights violations”.

By “state excesses”, the PTI meant the crackdown by the police ahead of the long march on May 25 and the use of tear gas and baton-charge by the police on the day of the march.

Mazari has also requested the UN official to “take urgent notice of the issues raised as they not only threatened democracy in Pakistan but also the lives of former PM Khan, his party leadership…and intervene on these with the government of Pakistan”.

The PTI also asked the UN to intervene to end “harassment of the PTI” members and save them from “political” cases against them. It also demanded that the government stop censorship of the media as this was a “violation of basic democratic norms and of the ICCPR to which Pakistan is a party”.

It urged the UN to stop the government of Pakistan from “denying the right to peaceful protest through repressive measures”.

The letter by Mazari came a day after PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee to investigate the claims made by PTI leaders that they carried weapons during the long march on May 25.

A few days ago, the PTI chief had conceded that some participants of his “Haqeeqi Azadi March” were armed.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has said that Imaan Mazari, daughter of former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, had used “objective language” following the arrest of her mother as her “trauma” had been “exacerbated due to the misleading information and unexplained conduct of police officials”.

In its short order dated June 1, IHC CJ Athar Minallah said, “From a plain reading of the memorandum of petition in hand, it appears that the petitioner had used objectionable language after she had been informed regarding the arrest of her mother."

“A plain reading of the memorandum of petition and the written reply submitted before the Investigating Officer show that, prima facie, the information provided by the police officials was misleading,” he said, adding, “The trauma and distress of the petitioner appears to have been exacerbated due to the misleading information and unexplained conduct of police officials.”

“It also appears that the petitioner’s utterances were not in consonance with the code and ethics of enrolled counsels,” the court said, adding, “Nonetheless, the learned counsel has stated that the petitioner had later realized that the language and accusations were not appropriate and that her conclusions were based on misleading information received from the police officials.”

According to the order, the petitioner had no intent to disrespect the armed forces nor its commander as per the counsel.

“In response to the court’s query, the learned counsel for the petitioner has informed that it was explained to the Investigating Officer that there was no intent to commit an offence nor the offences mentioned in the FIR, appear to be attracted,” the order said, adding that remorse on part of Mazari was obvious and that the court had no reason to doubt the bonafides of the statement made on her behalf.

“The court expects that in the light of the above statement made on behalf of the petitioner and in her presence, the complainant would consider withdrawing the complaint,” the order said. It ordered that notices be issued to the respondents for filing reports and para-wise comments before the date fixed on June 9.

Shameless people and their backers who arrested her.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has constituted a commission to probe the arrest of former Human Rights’ Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shireen Mazari, ARY News reported on Monday.

The PML-N-led government has formed a five-member special commission to probe the May 21 arrest of Dr Shireen Mazari. The Cabinet Division has also issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, Justice (retd) Shakur Paracha, former Inspector-General (IG) Dr Naeem Khan, former Secretary Saif Ullah Chattha, Home Secretary and Chief Commissioner will be part of the five-member commission.

A commission of inquiry was formed on Thursday to probe the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader and former human rights minister Dr Shireen Mazari.

According to Express News, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) constituted a three-member commission to probe the arrest of the former minister in a land case registered with the Anti-Corruption Establishment. The commission will be headed by former law secretary retired Justice Shakur Paracha.

Other members of the commission include former inspector general (IG) Dr Noman Khan and former federal secretary Dr Saifullah.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated that the commission would review the investigation and allegations related to the arrest of Mazari and send its recommendations to the federal cabinet by July 4.

Moreover, a petition was filed for an investigation into the arrest of the PTI leader in which the court sought a report from the National Assembly by July 7.

Mazari and her daughter, advocate Imaan Mazari, appeared before the court along with their lawyer Ali Bukhari.

The counsellor argued that subsequent to the commission's notification, the body had not been productive.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah responded that the court did not have jurisdiction over the commission. The high court justice added that if the petitioner had future objections, they could reapply.

The court inquired whether there was any report from the speaker of the National Assembly, to which Deputy Attorney General Arshad Kayani replied that he had not received a report.

On April 11, a First Investigation Report (FIR) was registered against Mazari by the Anti-Corruption Unit in Dera Ghazi Khan. The FIR stated that the PTI leader inherited land from her father Ashiq Muhammad Khan, fraudulently.

The agency alleged that the former minister’s father had transferred, through bogus mutation, an 800 kanal land in favour of a bogus company -- Progressive Farms Limited.

The FIR further said that according to Assistant Commissioner Rojhan, these companies were not traced in the records of Revenue Department.

The FIR added that the Federal Land Commission in its report had declared this mutation bogus. “During the perusal of record, it revealed that land measuring 1,386 Acres of Mst. Shireen Mehrun-Nisa Mazari was surrendered to Provincial Govt through Land Commission. In Mutation No. 39 dated 05.07.1973, there is cutting and tempering.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, MPA Malik Ahmad Khan, said Mazari's family “tampered” with land records and “forcibly took it back from poor farmers”.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday sought a report from the National Assembly secretary on the May 21 arrest of senior PTI leader and former federal minister on human rights Shireen Mazari.

The directive came during the hearing of the petition filed by Shireen's daughter Iman Mazari, against the arrest, as IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah termed the arrest as unlawful.

The former human rights minister, according to Geo News, was taken into custody in a case related to the encroachment of a piece of land in District Rajanpur.

"This court's opinion about it [arrest] is that the action hadn't been taken as per the legal process," CJ Minallah remarked.

Later, the notification for the formation of the inquiry commission to probe Shireen's arrest was presented before the court.

The notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated that the three-member commission will be headed by former law secretary Justice retd Shakoor Paracha. The other two members are former inspector-general Noman Khan and former federal secretary Dr Saifullah Chattah.

As per the Terms of Reference (TORs) mentioned in the notification, the commission will investigate Shireen's arrest and conduct a transparent review of the allegations of misuse of authority in the arrest.

It further stated that the commission will send the recommendations to the federal cabinet by July 4, while the Islamabad administration will provide secretariat support to the commission.

At the outset of the hearing today, Shireen and Imaan appeared before the court with their lawyer, Ali Bukhari. Bukhari raised an objection that the inquiry commission issued a notification on June 4.

He complained that no progress has been made in regard to the commission nor my client has been summoned for investigations.

He also asked the court to inquire from the deputy attorney general whether his client's application to include the investigation of criminal proceedings against her in the ToRs had been accepted.

'PTI govt also put MNAs in prisons happily'
At this, Justice Minallah said that the court cannot supervise the commission.

"Let them do their work. You can submit another request if you have any objection in the future," the judge remarked.

Meanwhile, the IHC chief justice inquired if the National Assembly speaker issued a report in this regard.

Responding to the query, Deputy AG Arshad Kiyani said that no such report has been handed over to him.

Justice Minallah said that Ali Wazir is also an MNA and he is in prison.

"When they [PTI] was in the government, they also put MNAs in prison happily," the judge remarked.

The hearing was adjourned till July 7.

The arrest
Punjab’s anti-corruption department had arrested PTI leader Mazari today afternoon, but hours after the authority's move, Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz ordered her immediate release.

The former human rights minister, according to Geo News, was taken into custody in a case related to the encroachment of a piece of land in District Rajanpur.

In a three-page order, IHC CJ Athar Minallah said: "The authorities shall explain under what authority of law the fundamental rights of Dr Shireen Mazari were violated while she was within the jurisdiction of this Court."

The IHC's order came after the PTI leader's daughter, Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, filed a petition against her mother being "illegally abducted by officials of the Punjab Police".

The court noted that the ex-federal minister was not de-notified as a member of the National Assembly, therefore, her arrest was not in line with the law as before any MNA's arrest, the NA speaker should be informed.

The case against the PTI leader was filed at the request of Deputy Commissioner Rajanpur, after which, the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab registered the FIR.

Mazari is accused of encroaching upon a piece of land. A complaint was lodged against her on March 11, 2022, while AC Rajanpur was directed to inquire into the matter.

The official concerned prepared the report of the case on April 8 and in the light of this, the Anti-Corruption Establishment registered a criminal case under its Rules 2014.

Following the arrest, the PTI moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and announced to hold country-wide protests later today.

She had been booked under sections 505 (inciting people against armed forces) and 138 (abetment of act of insubordination by soldier) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Subsequently, she had approached the IHC, stating in her petition that the "FIR is ill-founded and allegations are absurd".

During the hearing today, Mazari-Hazir's lawyer, Advocate Zainab Janjua, said her client had appeared for every interrogation on the court's order.

Two police cars had come to Mazari-Hazir's house on Sunday night to deliver the notice, she informed the court. "We requested the investigation officer to tell us what the allegations are. Our request was dismissed and we were shown the video [of Mazari-Hazir's remarks]."

Janjua said she had submitted a detailed reply to police the same day. "We accepted it previously that the video is [original] and we accept it today as well."

The counsel further said that her client had expressed "regret" over her words and accepted that "what happened should not have happened".

Justice Minallah remarked that Mazari-Hazir was a respectable officer of the court and should not have uttered the words even under "normal circumstances".

"If the petitioner asks for forgiveness, what is left in the case?" he questioned.

However, the counsel for the JAG branch argued that the word forgiveness was not mentioned even once in the reply submitted by Mazari-Hazir. "If she has to apologise, she should do so in front of the media," he added.

Subsequently, the court accepted Mazari-Hazir's petition and dismissed the case against her.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has said that the remarks uttered by advocate Imaan Zainab Mazari against the Pakistan Army and its chief were the “outcome of misinformation and above all, made at a time when the petitioner was traumatised”.

“The petitioner has unequivocally apologized for the intemperate and inappropriate language used by her, at a time, when she was under extreme stress," said the IHC judgement in its written order issued on Wednesday.

The ruling over a petition filed by Imaan Mazari, daughter of former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, seeking quashment of an FIR registered against her for allegedly maligning the army.

“The unequivocal apology and regret by the petitioner under peculiar circumstances, has established that the crucial ingredient for constituting an offence is non-existent,” added the court verdict.

Last month, an FIR was filed at a police station in Islamabad against Mazari for allegedly defaming the army and its chief. Mazari had used offensive language against Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa following the “abduction” of her mother by the police from outside her house.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has said that Advocate Imaan Zainab Mazari’s remarks against Pakistan Army and its chief are the “outcome of misinformation and above all, made at a time when the petitioner was traumatised”.

“The petitioner has unequivocally apologised for the intemperate and inappropriate language used by her, at a time, when she was under extreme stress," the IHC judgement in its written order issued on Wednesday.

The ruling over a petition filed by Imaan Mazari, daughter of former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, seeks to quash an FIR registered against her for allegedly maligning the army.

“The unequivocal apology and regret by the petitioner under peculiar circumstances, has established that the crucial ingredient for constituting an offence is non-existent,” added the court verdict.

When confronted with the above, the order read, the additional attorney general, taking a fair stance, has stated that the complainant has always been magnanimous and that the unequivocal apology and regret by the petitioner manifests her intent.

“He has, however, stated that the petitioner is expected to exercise care in future since she is also an officer of the court and bound to observe the code of conduct prescribed for enrolled advocates.”

The judgment read that the peculiar circumstances in which the “inappropriate utterances” were made, recorded and uploaded without the petitioner’s consent manifests that there was no intent to commit an offence. “It indeed takes courage to admit one’s mistake and apologise for an inappropriate conduct.”

For the above reasons, the judgment said, the “Court is satisfied that further proceedings pursuant to registration of the FIR would be an exercise in futility. The petition is, therefore, allowed and consequently the FIR is hereby quashed. The connected petition has become infructuous and, therefore, accordingly disposed-of”.

Last month, an FIR was filed at a police station in Islamabad against Imaan for allegedly defaming the army and its chief. Imaan had used offensive language against Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa following the “abduction” of her mother (Shireen) by the police outside her house.

A meeting of the commission formed to investigate former federal minister Shireen Mazari’s arrest was held to discern the facts about the matter.

Mazari personally attended the meeting. Islamabad DC Irfan Memon was present there as well.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader said in a media talk that those who were supposed to submit their affidavit could not submit them. The copies of the rest could not be reached, she added.

“We want to get the papers of all the five people who were involved; tomorrow we have to come again; tomorrow we will know what the real story is,” the former minister said.

She said that they did not want to return to the assembly. She further said that there will be a re-counting of voting in the Punjab Assembly and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should take notice of the matter.

“Rana Sanaullah should think that there will be a petition against Hamza Shahbaz and Rana Sanaullah,” she remarked, exclaiming that “the people have stood up”.

Mazari said that the days of those who want to do this are going to end in Punjab. PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) will form the government, she said, adding that now if Imran Khan's government is overthrown, there will be an inquiry.

“The imported government has brought disaster to the economy, the rupee has lost its value,” she pointed out.

“There should be a general election as soon as possible,” she demanded.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari has claimed that some of the cabinet members in Imran Khan’s government, including her, had raised objections to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 — a controversial law that criminalised defamation and made it a non-bailable offence with five-year imprisonment.

The law, commonly referred to as Peca, was passed by the National Assembly (NA) in 2016 when the PML-N was at the helm in the Centre. An ordinance making it tougher was promulgated by President Arif Alvi during the PTI government’s tenure.

In April 2022, the Islamabad High Court had scrapped Section 20 of the ordinance, the provision that criminalised defamation and drew criticism from digital rights activists.

Mazari said during an interview with DawnNewsTV — scheduled to air at 7pm today — that some members of Imran’s cabinet had also opposed the ordinance.

In fact, she added, “I had submitted a written objection, stating that this (Peca) is not right and it will come back to haunt us.

“And that is what has happened.”

Several PTI members have fallen victim to the law, notably Senator Azam Swati.

Very true. A great Pakistani.

IHC grants bail to PTI’s Shireen Mazari

The Islamabad High Court has granted bail to PTI leader Shireen Mazari who was arrested last week under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order.

The ex-human rights minister’s daughter had referred to the IHC against her mother’s arrest.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shireen Mazari has been arrested again by police shortly after her release from Adiala Jail, the former minister's daughter said on Tuesday.

"Senator Falak Naz's family and I (& our lawyer) were waiting outside Adiala Jail to receive ama [my mother] and [Senator] Falak Naz. Islamabad Police arrested them from outside the jail while we were waiting outside the exit they told us to wait at," Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, daughter of the former human rights minister, said in a tweet.

"We have no idea where they have been taken," she added.

Shireen Mazari ‘tortured’, daughter ‘manhandled’ by policemen: Farrukh Habib

PTI leader Farrukh Habib has alleged that senior party leader Dr Shireen Mazari was tortured by policemen, and her daughter was manhandled by law enforcers when she reached the police station to “get her mother.”

“There is law of jungle in Pakistan and seems like fundamental rights of citizens are suspended by this fascist regime,” the former state minister said in a tweet.

IHC seeks explanation from Islamabad police chief over Mazari’s rearrest

The Islamabad High Court has instructed the inspector general of the capital police to submit a response by Monday clarifying why PTI leader Shireen Mazari was handed over to the Punjab police in contravention of the court’s directives.

The directives were issued by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb in response to Mazari’s plea, which raised concerns regarding her arrest and subsequent handing over to the Punjab police.

Justice Aurangzeb commented on the police action, questioning the reasons behind the disregard for court orders. He remarked, “Although this time will pass, the stain will remain.”

The Islamabad High Court on Friday issued contempt notices to the federal capital’s police chief and summoned him to explain the re-arresting of PTI leaders Shireen Mazari, Maleeha Bokhari and Ali Muhammad Khan.

Hearing the case of Mazari who was rounded up for the third time a day earlier, this time under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), IHC’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb observed that in these cases, the State was trying to defeat the writ of the judiciary.

The attorney general for Pakistan appeared before the court, which a day earlier specifically ordered not to arrest Mazari in any case registered against her.
Justice Aurangzeb noted that there was a campaign under way against constitutional courts.

The AGP told the court all institutions would operate within their constitutional jurisdictions.

The judge remarked that the Punjab police could not arrest somebody directly from Islamabad.

He added that prima facie, the Islamabad police could not distance themselves away from the matter.

The judge summoned the Islamabad IGP on May 22 (Monday) for an explanation.

Justice Aurangzeb also heard the cases of the re-arresting of Bokhari and Khan after their release in pleas requesting contempt proceedings against the Islamabad IGP.

Their lawyers requested the court that the decision to arrest their clients under the MPO should be set aside.

Issuing notices to the Islamabad IGP and the AGP, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 23 (Tuesday).

Hearing another case, Justice Aurangzeb sought by Monday the details of the cases registered against PTI leader Asad Umar.

The judge was hearing a petition against the arrest of Umar under the MPO.
Umar’s lawyer Babar Awan requested the court to be provided with the cases registered against his client.

Awan asked the court to fix the next date of hearing on Monday to which the judge inquired was he planning to enjoy his weekend. The courtroom burst out in laughter in response.

However, the judge fixed the next hearing on Monday.

Separately, PTI Vice Chairman still has to submit his undertaking to the IHC that he neither was he involved in the May 9 violence triggered by the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and neither had he instigated the party activists to cause the mayhem.

As a result, the court was unable to issue a written order and the matter has been delayed.

The IHC had declared the arrest of Qureshi under the MPO as illegal and ordered his release subject to the undertaking that he needed to submit to the court.
Qureshi’s lawyer sought more time from the court to submit the undertaking to it.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has prevented the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari from Adiala Jail to another location.

The court summoned the Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) personally on Monday (May 22) to provide all correspondence records between the Islamabad and Punjab police.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued a written order on the contempt of court petition regarding Shireen’s arrest.

The Islamabad Police have ignored the IHC and they can't do jack. Just like the SC,which had its orders ignored on the elections and nothing happened, the judges have been cowed by the mafia

IHC hears plea against Shireen Mazari’s rearrest

Islamabad High Court’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing of PTI leader Shireen Mazari’s contempt plea against her rearrest.

During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb noted that Islamabad police obeyed the orders issued by the deputy commissioner and violated the orders of the court. “This is a fit case for issuing a show cause notice for contempt,” he remarked.

Jail officials were also called to the rostrum and asked whether they had prevented Mazari’s legal team from meeting her. The officials responded that they were allowed to meet the PTI leader on two instances but on the third they were turned away as they had arrived late.

At one point, the judge remarked that the court would issue an “appropriate order”.

Imran condemns rearrest of Mazari, says authorities trying to ‘break her spirit’

Former prime minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the rearrest of party leader Shireen Mazari, expressing his concern over the current regime’s actions and stating that they were “sinking to new lows.”

Taking to Twitter, Imran Khan voiced his disapproval, saying that the purpose behind Mazari’s rearrest was to “break her spirit.” He further highlighted the delicate state of her health, emphasising the potentially adverse effects of such a move.

“The country is rapidly descending towards becoming a Banana republic where might is right,” the PTI chief said.

Shireen Mazari taken away in ‘Vigo’ after Gujrat court orders release

Moments after a court in Gujrat ordered her release, PTI leader Shireen Mazari was taken away in a Vigo without a number plate.

According to Dawn.com correspondent Iqbal Mirza, who was present at the scene, Mazari was presented by the police in court earlier today in a case pertaining to inciting party supporters in Kharian on May 9.

During the hearing, Mazari’s lawyer Advocate Faraz Ahmed told Kharian Judicial Magistrate Akhtar Ali that the PTI leader never participated in any protests and cited the lack of evidence on the police’s part.

After hearing the arguments, the court directed the police to discharge the PTI leader.

CONGRATULATIONS to the fascist regime in Pakistan. they are starting to see success in breaking down the spirit of the pakistani people fighting for democracy.

And she has ran away from PTI and politics :))

We need a thread for all the pti members that have ran away.

This has to be the weakest party i have ever seen.

PPP supporters used to get whipped and they didnt quit.

I’m so glad I left the country when I could. I feel for the poor and oppressed but I really don’t care what happens to the country or if it ceases to exist.

Her daughter Imaan Mazari was never a pti supporter and would frequently criticize pti and IK even when they were in power.

Shireen Mazari has quit pti before as well. She had desired to become foreign minister and had admitted a few times in public she was lobbying for the post. She had undermined SMQ a few times by criticizing his performance on various foreign tours.

She has severe health issues. She was on a reserved seat. Overall I don't blame her for doing what is in her best interest

Mazari cites health concerns, daughter’s ordeal as reasons for quitting politics

Shireen Mazari, who was one of the most prominent leaders of the PTI and was arrested multiple times in recent days, has cited health issues and and the ordeal that her daughter, Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, had to go through while she continued to be “abducted and released” multiple times as reasons for her quitting active politics.

Addressing a press conference, she announced that she would not be part of the PTI or any other party from now onwards.

She further said her husband had passed away five months ago. “When Dr Tabish was alive, I could have many things, as he was there for the children as well.

“My children, mother and health are now my priority.”

You should be ashamed of yourself for laughing like this.

Decent people cannot survive in Pakistan politics because of this attitude.

She is over 70 and probably been tortured and put under stress by the PDM - that is something all decent Pakistanis should condemn instead of making fun of.

Maybe you guys need to be ashamed for supporting a party that was in bed with the millitary.

Now when the millitary is not supporting you guys or rigging elections in your favor, I should be ashamed?

I kept whinigng about the PTI rigging and we had posters here who laughed about it and said do what ever you wanna do.

So yes i will laugh at the way PTI members are jumping the boat

Party is stacked with lotas.

When push comes to shove many of them will flee just like they fled their previous parties.

But unlike any other party in Pakistan there is a squad of capable of able activitits that have remained loyal to Imran despite him sidelining them whenever power is up for grabs.

If he uses them and gives these hardcore party activists tickets, they won't surrender so easily

well many of us had called it that this party is taking lotas and when these guys will leave when the oppurtunity arrises.

I just hope that Murad Saeed doesnt quit, if he does than PTI will end tonight.

PTI has no future anyway with that nutcase sticking by them forever

PTI is a political party not a hardened army.

The only so-called politicians who have withstood so much trauma are those that have their livelihoods depending upon it, knowing that the alternative is either long term jail or being hung by the noose. In short, criminals and murderers who are like cornered rats.

Im sorry but this won't cut it.

PTI leadership encouraged Jail bharo movement but when it was time to face the jail themselves they pooped their pants.

These turncoats have let down the youth of Pakistan.

Apparently Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar are remaining loyal to IK and withstanding pressure to abandon him for now

Most have been in jail, tortured, abused and their families attacked, yet most are still supporting them.

These people are very brave, something which may not be understood by you but lets not get a kick out of seeing people abused and tortured.

When Zardari was arrested in 2019-2020, the arresting officer and policemen were apologizing to him to profusely but that they had no orders but to follow orders.

All PTI leaders and workers in comparison have been roughed up and man handled

Irrelevant. Look up a word ' Duress'.

When this takes place, its foolish to determine they are doing it willingly, bottled it, changed mind, become turncoats etc.

Right moves, keep it low, save their lives and return when elections are confirmed.

I'm sorry but this won't cut it.

The youth were let down from decades of mafia rulers.

With regards to the PTI members who are leaving the party. As an s if supporter of democracy, anti corruption and rule of law. I don't blame them one bit. If the youth of Pakistan think differently then they don't deserve to be saved.

They advocated that others break the law but when they were put under pressure themselves they capitulated.

Now what is the result? PTI activists with no political patronage languish in jail but those with patronage can sit on TV and slate Imran.

If I was a parent of a poor kid trapped in jail I would be disgusted at Mazari and co.

Easy for you sit in dull Glasgow and call these people not brave. There is bravery and there is also being smart, both dont have to be contradictions.

They will be back unless PTI leader IK wants others.

Listen I can comment from wherever I am sitting just like you can sit wishing Putin merry christmas from Alum Rock.

IK has sent the message across in the party that he holds nothing against those people who leave him at this stage as he understands the pressure that they and their families are under and he will not badmouth anyone nor will he allow anyone in his party to badmouth them. But if PTI is successful in weathering this storm and surviving this crisis and in a position to go into elections, all those who deserted the party at this time, should they choose to rejoin will not be given senior roles in the party ever again, they will have to start from the ground up again or be content with being party workers.

^this is the only way after the disgusting remarks from Chohan today.

PTI can't rely on these lotas. While @kkwc will applaud him for his bravery I dont think these kind of people will be taken seriously by the public ever again.

No doubt you will reply but I'm drawing a line under this.

May I ask if you have turned on your TV today and seen the statements by the turncoat Chohan?

I have firmly grasped what is going on. My sympathises are with those without political patronage who have been dumped on by defectors from the PTI.

Won't you comment on their plight rather than show support to those who incited them and then crawled away at the first sign of pressure?

Truth as bitter as it may sound.

It's amazing how some people use petty arguments to justify their own agenda.

The more that people expose themselves here the better understanding I get of the warped way some people think.

You can comment from anywhere but sitting there and thinking these people arent brave , shows you are either clueless of ground realities or talking on the irn bru.

The Pakistani public is far more intelligent and understands DURESS. Even in law any words, comments, views or evidence obtained under duress is in inadmissible. Its very simple really.

This tyranny will never end. Look at Pakistan today, it looks worse than Congo. The entire world has progresses and Pakistan has retrograded into the dark ages.
