I am a HUGE shisha fan and got started when sitting with friends and having a chat. I have been smoking shisha now for around 7 years now and have grown very fond of it. I will normally smoke to socialise or for a sit down to watch sports/TV.

I am NOT a fan of going to shisha cafes here in the UK due to the mixing of the crowd but would happily go out to one in the middle east (as they predominantly have males).

Therefore I have come to learn how to make shisha in my own home and have really perfected the way it should be made. I have learnt from people in Morocco, Dubai and UK as to how they make it. I have come to learn my own ways and would happily share advice.

Any shisha lovers out there? If so, what do you smoke and what are your favourite flavours?

Anyone want to share any successful mix of flavours i could try out?

DISCLAIMER: I am fully aware of the harms of smoking shisha and i am also aware in more Islamic circle it is frowned upon. This is NOT a thread about discussing the harms of it

I used to go Edgware Road regularly to the Arab cafes to smoke the stuff with friends but I have more or less given up now.

What's so special about the way you make your shisha?

I no longer use nasty coals (quick lights), only natural coconara (coconut shell) for coals.

I also use a Lotus Kaloud which stops the flavour from burning and distributes the heat evenly.

There are a 100 different things to watch out for, in order to make the shisha smoke pleasant.

Do you smoke yourself?

I have had the Edgeware experience, the shisha is pretty average and tends to cost a lot of money.

I do. Every now and then I go out for a shisha. Have one at home but still learning how to make a good one. Tips would be appreciated.

Also, going a bit off topic but do you prefer male company over female company? Just curious.

I love the female company known as my wife =)

It is out of respect to other females that i do not sit in social areas with them.

Back on topic.

I like apple flavoured shisha, usually share it when I go to bars with my 3 friends.

Try adding a little bit of mint flavour to your Apple or double apple flavour. I am assuming it is Al Fakher, if so, then ask the guy to add a little bit of mint as its quite over powering.

It makes the flavour a lot better =)

Actually I meant double apple flavour..that is why my saudi born friend orders, and I take an occasional puff from her. My GF is a pot smoker too.

Strawberry watermelon- best flavor hands down. Have tried few others but this one takes the cake.

One piece of advice, which i wish someone had given me, make sure your foil is not touching the flavour. Double your foil as it will act as a resistor to the heat. When the flavour touches or gets too close to the coal, it will burn and give you the ill coughing feeling you get.

Spent way too many winter evenings smoking sheesha with 5-6 buddies when in Karachi. I probably have done irreparable damage to my lungs as a result but I guess its better than the alternative of weed or drinking which I am likely to indulge in when hanging out with my boys. Theres been a ban on it in Pak for a while but no one cares :uakmal

I dont know about Middle east or UK but the sheesha in Karachi and Lahore is top notch and has all sorts of crazy flavors.

Ive had sheesha in Dubai and Doha in very traditional Arab places (like not for tourists but what locals frequent.) The tobacco content in it was too strong or so I felt. I was knocked out couple of hours later and almost missed a flight

This sounds nice!

Do you mix this yourself? And what make of flavour?

Good question. What make of flavours do you recommend? I started with Al Fakhr but didn't really like it. Golden Laylani is pretty good.

Kiwi Strawberry is the best imo as far as basic flavors go

Kiwi Strawberry mint is also good acc to mood.

Golden Layalina is nice and is a good choice for new smokes. Its has less effects on you and the taste is good.

Al fakhar is more for the traditional smoker tbh.

I love starbuzz and really enjoyed smoaking Fumari which is a refreshing brand. all very hard to get in the UK.

You guys know nothing

Arab shisha is very inferior to what the Americans have made and no i am not talking about that rubbish called Starbuzz. Try brands like Tangiers, you will be surprised, not at just how good it is but how a single bowl can last 4/5 hours straight. Arabs may have invented it but like almost everything else, the Americans perfected it.

I've been smoking for about 10 years now on a daily basis. Its more like a ritual for me now.

I have never tried and never will.

I too didn't try till now, but visited various shisha bars with my pals, and only went on to drink overpriced ice teas , while watching boxing fights :)) But gotta say, the strawberry smoke just smells ... ;-)

Weed is less harmful than the normal tobacco huka or the chemical flavors used in sheesha.

Occasional drinking is anyday better than occasional smoking.

This is another combination of flavour i have never considered before.

I will give this a go. Need the flavours first! Im assuming you are mixing Al fakar flavours?

I am assuming you are based in the USA?

As I have found it almost impossible to get flavour like Haze, Fumari, Tangier here in the UK.

The american flavours tend to be more for social smokers as opposed to the middle eastern flavours which pack a real tobacco punch.

'Shisha smokers thread' =)

Although I would never encourage anyone to take up the habbit. You are a wise man.

Where are you based?

Is sheesha the same as hooka?

People use the term shisha and hooka to describe the same thing. 'Shisha' literal meaning is 'Glass' i.e. the base of the Hookoah is made in glass. To answer the quesitons, YES they are the same. Although what you put in them to smoke can vary from person to person.

Would love to hear from people how they make their shisha session more enjoyable?

Ive tried adding mint leaves the water and have found it really give it a lovely kick to the taste of the smoke.

Nope, im in London, you cant really get much in UK because of the tobacco laws, even herbal flavors are now banned, i have only found smuggled al fakher flavors and even then they might be fake.

However i have my connections in the states and am able to get any tobacco from there which easily comes through customs here in uk without being detected.

..and i dont think you have smoked Tangiers, it packs a tobacco punch more then anything.

I also heard of a new brand in the states called Alchemist Tobacco, just released, good reviews, tobacco aged in bourbon barrels, cant wait to get my package of this monster.

Haven't smoked anything for years and never will.

Nice. I think smoking is a very dumb thing to do especially after it being stuffed down your throat to not smoke. Most people just do it if they are pressured or who around the wrong people who smoke, making them think that smoking is "cool".

Yeah, almost every teenagers indulges into cigarettes and shisha during the teen years to make up for his insecurities and look cool, because they think it will help them land girls etc., unfortunately some are never able to get out of that phase and continue to smoke for the rest of their lives.

Seriously though, it's pretty baffling to know how dumb some kids can be.

Sheesha is easier to access. Doesn't have same stigma in society. Also from a religious point of view Sheesha is at best makrooh and Weed is haram. (even though that's not the primary reason on my part I'll admit).

I usually do it out of boredom during holidays normally. It's a low cost activity which kills time I guess. But have stopped now largely.

Interestingly I was never addicted to it.

Yup do give it a try. The purists (haha dunno if there's such a term for serious sheesha smokers) will look at it disapprovingly but it's very smooth and the smell is awesome

I used to smoke sheesha a lot back in uni. We used to do it in our student halls by covering the fire alarm with foil. I used to back then try out a lot of different things with the sheesha. Now I am just over that phase. Its very harmful and much worse than cigarettes.

I do agree to a certain extent that shisha smokers are young teens l

How is sisha compared to cigarette in Pakistan ? Do women smoke Sisha ? I was in England last summer, my cousin brought me to this sisha place, I saw few hijabi girls smoking Sisha, i ordered for Rum with coke and was surprised when the waiter told me that they don't carry alcohol. Is sisha considered "ok" ?

Sheesha for a Karachiite is their everyday nightlife. Depends how social you are. It is also a socially acceptable way for girls to smoke something, otherwise most women are judged when they even put a cigarette to their mouth.

Recently the SC passed a bill regarding the banning of all sheesha places unless they exclude Sheesha from their menu. Most people are left pretty disappointed with this because it was the one thing you could enjoy socially and was to good to have chat with friends around it.

If you are a Karachiite Sattar Baksh is the best place to have sheesha and girls that come over there are just wow :D

Jack Sparrow Mint and Blue Mist are my favorite flavors.

Having Sheesha with the local energy drink 'Sting' has its own Buzz.

Cant say i agree with men and women mixing over shisha in cafes. Im very much against this. It is why i smoke at home.

Jack Sparrow Mint, can you describe the flavour? Apart from the mint part =) Also who is the flavour from?

Ive seen people try energy drinks in their shisha pipes but have never been tempted, i think it would over haul the shisha flavour itself too much.

In Islam Alcohol is haram and is specified as poison not tobacco being very specific to the book as it has not listed it down and most of my Muslim friends smoke. In Sikhism its opposite you can't smoke but not much on drinking.

Many people don't have the brain to understand why Alcohol was listed as "haram". It was listed since it poses danger to health of the person consuming it and possible others around him lol. I've heard so many retards say "cigarette is not haram bro". Cigarette didn't exist, so it wasn't listed as haram. Then again, people always surprise me.

What I meant was not in the Sheesha pipe. But sipping along Sting while having Sheesha :D

Jack Sparrow mint, I cannot describe the flavor. But it is very 'light' as the term goes.

I enjoy the flavor alot, gives you the buzz without hurting your throat too much.

I'm not a smoker so I enjoy smoking Sheesha occassionally. More like once a month.

I didn't say men and women mixing over sheesha cafe's. Its not like a 'bar' where you meet random people over alcohol.

What I meant was its like a family environment, and if you are a student at college and you would like to invite your friends over for a gathering whether its males or females..Sheesha and some good food is served in these cafes. Or you either watch football matches with your mates on the weekends.

And its a chill environment. Where people just talk and socialize then go back home.

Also its more dangerous than Smoking if done too frequently. I do it once a month but I cannot imagine the condition some people's lungs will have those who do it everyday.

One sitting of a sheesha (1-1.5 hours) is equivalent to 200 cigarette's smoked. Also the volume inhaled for sheesha is larger, where cigarette smoke is shorter.

Not quite. It is the intoxicating aspect of alcohol which makes it haram, not the health hazard.

I have AK47 Shisha, Picture above ^ obviously off the google image

Some shisha flavour reviews for you guys:-

I am a massive Starbuzz fan and is generally more geared for the social smoker.

Some Starbuzz flavours you might want to try and i order with my favourites first.

1) Citrus Mist
2) Bluemist
3) Pirates Cave

If you would like to try some Al Fakhar here are some i would suggest:-

1) Grape and Mint
2) Blueberry
3) Apple and Mint

You can generally mix different flavours to create your own flavour and to you preference.

An honourable mention:-

1) Fumari - Apple and Mint (very refreshing flavour form this brand)
2) Golden Layalina - Blue mist (Fantastic flavour and a very enjoyable smoke)

Sorry for bumping...just my experience...

This is a hard question to answer. The best starting hookah hands down would be Starbuzz's Unicus. Although small it smokes just as well if not better then most KM's on the market. I personally own one and between it and my KM Fifa Ice I would say that they are tied.

Things get interesting when you branch out. For the money a KM will take a long way, of that there is no doubt, but they are so quickly produced to meet demand you might run into issues with welds and other small nuisances that may drive away a newer smoker. Mya's in my opinion, as others have noted, are not worth picking up as even the cheapest of KMs will outshine them in every way.

Sahara makes some great hoses https://coolerexp.com/best-hookah-hose-review/ as well, but I do not personally any of their hookahs but I have heard great things about them.

Glass is the new kid on the block. Lavoo, Fumo, Crown, Neptune, etc all make brilliant hookahs. The MP5 and MP5x are power houses but they may break the bank for a newer smoker or people on low budgets. If you are willing to spend 200+ on a hookah I would look no further than many of the all glass offerings. Easily some of the smoothest smoking hookahs on the market and I kick myself for not buying the MP5 for 80 bucks when I bought my KM (truth be told back then I liked the KM aesthetic more and still do, but the glass is so nice).

Starbuzz's stems are amazing. I have a starbuzz store near me and I just can not get over how beautiful they are. That said they run 300+ as well.

At the end of the day stay away from most of the Chinese brands and you will be just fine no matter what brand you pickup. The better question to ask is what bowl type, coal selection, and brand of shish you are smoking. Even the best pipe can be tarnished by one or two bad sessions.
There are many excellent videos on YouTube on this topic, leave one of them here. I hope this helps someone.Good luck,Smokers!

Shisha Lounges are very big here in Montreal was going their often during my college days, as you get older you realize its waste of time lol, i do not mind smoking shisha do not like the people at the lounge, annoying and loud, but their mainly young, i have gone 6 months ago during the day when it was empty with a friend did enjoy it because we can actually hear our self speak and had a nice convo lol

I used to smoke Sheesha once or twice every week this past summer, either at a sheesha bar or in one of my friends' cars(a friend of mine owns a sheesha). I learned how to mash the flavour and the rest of the process.

I like Pan Kiwi and grape mint most among the flavours I've tried.

i do it all the time, but only dark leaf stuff like Tangiers, however i dont recommend it for beginners its for advanced smokers only.

Couple times in the summer usually. Watermelon with mint is my go to

Try Pan + Kiwi + Peach

Wheres all the sheesha smokers at? :)

So much has changed now with new amazing brands, just ordered a new batch of US brands like azure, ugly, trifecta, tangiers to the UK, can wait to smoke Sgt. Huckleberry

I like smoking sheesha as 'something to keep us engaged' when just hanging out with friends. I used to go to these sheesha places with their cheap stuff and always have a sore throat the next day. But then my friend got a good quality sheesha and it does show the difference.

My current favorite flavor is 'Paan'.

Thankfully I have stopped smoking sheesha.

Used to smoke once a week at illegal sheesha bars. Could have been arrested had I been caught.

Paan is so bad, I have Afzal Paan at home but its just sat in my draw. I am going to give it to my mate. Yet again, it's one of those flavours that you either love or hate.

Currently smoking apple and bluemist. Apple has become a favourite for me. Sounds good, I never tried American flavours..just Al Fakhar and Starbuzz.

Same here, i have 2 sleeves of pan sat on my sheesha shelf.

When you try american flavors, you never turn back, i cant even smoke AF now, tastes terrible compared to what ive been smoking.

yesterday i Had deja dew from trifecta, WoW what a flavour, almost identical to mountain dew.

Right now im setting up a bowl of Azures mango cheesecake, cant wait to smoke it.

Nice thread. Have been smoking hookah for more than 10 years. My current setup:
2 different stems for different flavors (KM and Starbuzz Atlantiz)
Samsaris Bowl
Kaloud lotus
D-hose (best silicone hose out there)

For flavors - cant go wrong with Trifecta, Tangiers and AF. For some reason, I can never get flavors out of Fumari. In my experience so far, the way you pack your tobacco makes a huge difference. Unfortunately, every brand has a different technique of packing.

Also, if you dont like tobacco, there are a couple of good tobacco free flavors out there

I only have the mint flavoured Shisha, with an ice head and ice pipe.

Don't accept anything else
