Those bowlers all played in a bowling friendly environment.
It's far more batsman friendly now yet bowlers still average under 25. So if anything bowlers are greater now. I just don't want to offend any past greats by degrading their abilities compared to the modern quicks. Yes maybe some of them could have still achieved attained greatness in the current era but that would be conjecture.

So you really have to factor in the rules and regulation, pitches and the type of environment bowlers have played in before making a reasonable comparison.

No he didnt, Akram avges 26 in aus over 3 series with 36 wickets in 9 tests

His stats wouldve been even better after the first 2 series but were spoilt after the 99 tour when he didnt do well

Whereas akhter avges 44 after 2 full tours down under

It can be argued that Wasim played weaker Australian sides in 1989, 1995 and finally came up against the best Australian side in 1999. Shoaib has 3 Five wicket hauls against the best Australian side of all time.

Australia wasn't a weaker side in 1989,it's just that their bowling attack was poor and 1995 side was the beginning of the great Australian team.

The Australian sides of 89 and 95 pales in comparison to the 99 sides onwards. Not to take anything away from Wasim, he was very good in Australia but his poor showing in the 99-00 series was also because that Australian team was another level.

After diabetes he wasn't a same bowler even though he had his moments against India and Westindies,he flopped in England as well.
