If he was choker, why would he average 50 in South Africa? Why would he average top match finisher in Pakistan cricket? Whereas for Hafeez; he even chokes against Ireland in Ireland.

Based on two match? He is the top match finisher in the history of Pakistan cricket. Precisely why Coach Arthur personally handpicked Malik as match finisher for the role. It is going to take a lot more than that.

He averages 9.88 after 17 matches in England without a single 50 and the highest score of 28. These are tailender level stats. I do not have to wait for this series to end when there is already this big sample size.
His growth curve is awesome though. At this rate by 2019, he should match MSD.
I think, it's a chicken & egg scenario - we can say that, for a no. 9 team, Malik makes the team or we can say that it's because of players like Malik that PAK is No. 9.

This is not an attack on Misbah captaincy but he gave so many chances to Malik under his captaincy. In 24 ODIs Malik played under Misbah in 2011-2013 he didn't score a single 50 and average 17. In 8 T20I he played under Misbah he average 14. So Misbah captaincy also played a big role to save Malik career.
I know but Malik has political connections as well.

From the last few days I have been hearing from the people about Shoaib Malik's greatest comeback after 2015 WC. I am just curious to know what are his stats after his comeback against different teams.
Can anyone please find the stats and share here.
As far as I think he has scored all his runs against Zimbabwe and Ireland. Against the quality sides he has been a passenger in the side.

His position no 6 is very vital in the team. It is essentially number 6 to bat after 5 specialists and number 6 to bowl after 5 specialist bowlers.
He isn't performing in this role. He should either be a top 5 bat or out of the team because we need a hard hitter at 6.

Scored against Sri Lanka. It's difficult to drop a guy who scored at an average of 67 in 2015 regardless of the opposition too, he looked in good form.
Think he's been lucky to not play many quality sides in that period which is why the average was so high. He's got to be dropped now, I'll be surprised if he makes it past this series. Think it's fair to drop him now, Malik had two England series to prove himself (and the new zealand series but he only played one ODI) and hasn't done anything. We needed to see whether he could carry over that form to the stronger sides but looks like he can't.

From what I recall he started a Twitter campaign #WeWantMalikBack and since the team was being ripped apart in the World Cup, many bought into it and here you are.
That doesn't change the fact that he is still the top finisher in the history of Pakistan cricket after Inzimam. You cannot make case on one venue. You have to account all venues including South Africa where he averages 50 consistently.

Nothing player vs a decent quick bowler. Been a fan of his but no need to invest in 34 year olds who are so poor vs pace.
He is one of the best ODI players to ever play for Pak. Unfortunately he peaked ten years ago and now the game has moved on while we are still stuck in the 1990's mode of playing cricket. Pak will never move forward in ODI's with the likes of Shohaib. He is average, always will be average and our team totals will always be average/par scores with his 20's and 30's.
For somebody who has been playing since the times of waqar and Wasim you'd expect that he could have made more of a mark in the Odi set up. Yes it's true that rather unfairly he's been made to play all positions from opener down to I think no8 but still since 2006 he's hardly set the world on fire either with bat or ball. It's ridiculous to point to isolated performances against India or against spin attacks when he epitomises the insipid performances of the odi team against even the likes of moeen Ali and Adil rashid.
Honestly I just want him to disappear and take Hafeez with him

I believe Mickey Arthur will do the right thing, soon we should him being by Talat at number 5 who not only is a quality player of spin but also a far superior bat against pace. The batting spot vacated by Malik is the ideal position for the left hander to come in.

Perfect reason to carry him to next WC in UK.
They say, law of average - he is averaging like 15 there in about 24 innings ...... at the end, law of average should pull it up as his career average is 35. For that, he needs to score around 800 in 9 WC games to make it 35 average in UK (here opponent doesn't matter because in this WC every team plays everyone).... even half of that, say 400 in 9 innings with one not out means an average of 50 in WC - add to that his bowling and 23 years of experience is like radium (he first played for PAK was 1996, for PAK U15 - that's 23 years before 2019 WC.....)
A chance worth taking. Same applies for MoHa and Wahab also.

You do know that law of averages depends upon, well averages. Many players have high career averages but very low in certain countries. You guys can take him along with Hafeez and Wahab as your batting line up consists of 2-3 batsman and an allrounder plus you guys have no express bowler either.

Anyway considering the past couple of years, I'd say there are 90% chances of him making it to the World Cup. Mickey probably knows his shortcomings but seems to appreciate his level-headedness and 'contributions'.
However, there are a few tough ODI series coming up - a stream of failures there would result in harsh calls being made, I think.

Seriously doubt it.
Pakistan's upcoming ODI series:
Zimbabwe (will score plenty if it's still on)
Asia Cup (will score plenty)
Australia (will score since it's in the UAE)
New Zealand (will score, UAE)
South Africa (he has a good record there, should score in a couple of ODIs)
England (yes here he will struggle, if we go by his record)
the World Cup (his final tournament before retiring, again in a place where his record is not great)
now do you think Mickey will drop him because of a poor England series?

Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England are all tough opponents.
I don't think he'll have a lot of good outings against these teams but let's see.

The oppositions are tough, no doubt about that but the pitches they'll play on will suit Malik's game more than Australia and New Zealand's

Poor observation, you didn't notice my post, even if I take it seriously for the sake of you. 127 against us, 85 against Lankans, 79 against AFG and 72 against WIN - that leaves just about about 37 in other 5 games .... do you have any problem with that average?
Even if ICC allows and there is ZERO batsman, still 19 years worth of experience for an average of 14 and a 3 times serial chucker won't make BD team - things are bad there, but not such desperate, be sure about that. Wahab is still making PAK team for his express pace and 2 meter chase of batsman, therefore I think it's better for him to stick with home land.
