Been doing it for the last 20 years.

And now again today, when you're chasing 350, in the middle overs, against the easiest bowling he's going to face: spin bowlers.

He comes out and start playing at 50 strike rate.

The crucial number 5 isn't able to play according to today's requirements.

Strike Rate of 66 when chasing down 350 is not only pathetic, but criminal, it is enough to cost him a place in the side..

He's playing the exact opppsite of the knock he played in the 2nd ODI..

Shoaib Malik's innings cost us the game, his innings took out all the momentum in the run chase poor innings !

Rock and hard place innings

He dare not lose his wicket but needs to score also

It's clear lack of ability, and NOBODY has spotted or acted on it for the last 20 FREAKIN years.

How ugly he looks whenever he tries to score! And just got 2 lives as well. :)))

Now almost giving a catch off Hazlewood's bowling. Followed by a dropped chance.

Needs to make sure he bats with the rate now.

Pathetic and very very selfish innings being played by Malik.I would be pleased if Mickey kicks him out of the team.

stupid and pathetic thread by all means...now seriously, should i elaborate further...

the innings is not over yet

we didn't want to loose a wicket

we can still chase

What a poor knock. We were coasting and he struggled badly against Cummins and went into his shell forcing Hafeez to play a big stroke.

We will never progress in the modern cricket as long as such players are picked.

The mentality needs to change, Inzi needs to take a stand or just get fired.

Malik, Rizwan, Imad, Azhar, Sarfraz, Nawaz -- THE CORE of your batting lineup JUST IS NOT made up for modern LOIs.

the difference btw malik and babars innings today;

Malik; 47 runs 77 strike rate
babar; 31 runs 79 strike rate

The question which should be asked is , who in Pakistan can actually accelerate without giving his wicket away????? Whooooo?

Nobody in the squad. Or well known reserves.

Need to draft in Khalid, Shahzaib for a start. Then pick more big hitters from domestic who are known for this ability.

There are some hacks which can be tried at number 6-7 . what do you think of Ali khan?

The numbers don't tell the story. Malik is not the answer if you are playing top competition and chasing high scores consistently

If he and others like him Rizwan, Imad, Azhar, Sarf, Shafiq are still there in the Champions Trophy or WC, I'd guarantee we aren't getting close to winning the tournament.

Winning the tournament was never in the picture no matter what the team.

He is good at chasing 250 kind of total,i will take him over azhar, hafeez and asad but the best is to drop theses 4

Poor innings from Malik today but c'mon lets cut him some slack. He's been easily our most prolific batsman in the last 2 years post World Cup.

Not sure that you should lump Imad in there. I like Akmal's approach, but I think he will be coming in for a lot of criticism in Mickey's report because of fitness and work ethic.

Never understood why he's been made the scapegoat everytime the team fails. Firstly they were set an impossible target, this batting line up cannot score at 7 an over! Then he's been part of the partnership that rebuild the innings and is the third highest scorer. There are many who should be picked on before Malik.

Whatever target one has: winning the tournament or winning x numbers of matches: its just not going to happen with some of these guys.

I cannot imagine what a top odi's team's number 4 would do to us if we gave him two chances. and here you have malik.

Disappointed he didn't go after the spinners today.

He is excellent against them and had he taken them on, then he would have put pressure on the Aussies and kept the run rate to a manageable rate is well.

Thread fail.

If someone worried that Malik wasting too many balls... well there are still few overs available, send in #12 and then #13 in.

Still miles better than Azhar. Need to get rid of that liaility first and then we will think about Malik and Hafeez.

He is actually doing Pakistan a massive favour because losing this series was gonna happen anyways. But he actually made sure today we don't stay in the series. Now it's upto the management to sack Azhar Ali.
Misbah with his recommendation for Azhar had taken Pak even further back than they were during his tenure.

Malik can murder spinners but he didn't today as he wants best for Pak and that is removal of an incompetent captain. His captaincy today was dreadful

Its not either or. every player has a role and malik is failing his and is hafeez.

It was a poor innings, but he's been good in the other two matches in Aus. Can't get rid of him, when the others are worse atm.

He is a limited hitter. He can go after slow bowlers, spinners somewhat. You need to be destructive.

Stats do not tell the whole picture. Today he scored 40+ but it was awful. Other matches he scored, but they were very very easy targets.

He's the kind of bat who can play a supporting role in 200-250 chases. But, awful when it comes to how most of the scores are today.

You cannot expect him to help set 300+ first innings totals, too.

People who are saying 'he's been doing good' have to realize this. It's not 90s anymore, and you can't get away with such limited players who can help you out with 200-260 scores only.

You are wrong on both fronts:

yeah agree with Black Zero, he's helped us chase 300 plus scores and put on 300 plus scores recently. The guy deserves credit, we can't take that away from him. He has done well and batted generally at a high strike rate. At times he's looked a bit suspect against pace but usually still scored and I thought he might struggle against it in Aus but he looked good against it (today he just looked poor against everything).

It seems silly to remove him now, when along with Babar seems to be the only middle order batsmen who look in form/scoring. We're carrying a lot of batsmen who are downright awful atm, Rizwan, Asad, Umar Akmal. Hafeez isn't too great either, he's only in because he can bowl, I'd be interested to see if Malik could fulfil Hafeez's role because if he can, little reason to have Hafeez in the side even though Hafeez was of worth before for many years.

Did you discover now after a decade that he's a hack? He's a selfish player who bats to save his average and get selected for the next series with his useless 30 something scores in a losing cause. He cannot and has never won a single match for Pakistan in years.

There is no doubt that Malik and Hafeez will perform but understand the situations in which they will perform:
- chasing easy total
- playing lesser teams
- benefiting from dropped catches.

They need to go.

Malik should stay for a year at least he can be the senior in the team but Hafeez must go. Lineup should look like this for ct

1. Sharjeel Khan
2. Shahzeb Hasan
3. Babar Azam
4. Malik
5. Sarfaraz
6. Maqsood
7. Hammad Azam
8. Imad Wasim

Malik has been your most reliable batsman for the last couple of years. Malik isn't the problem however no playing XI can afford to have 3 or 4 players like Malik, Hafeez, Azhar and Shafiq in the same batting line up. This isn't the 1980s anymore.

At least 2 of the above need to be axed.

But I was told he averages 50+ with the strike rate of 100+ in last two years :23:

Just look at this series. He averages 64! And I don't have to explain how valuable he has been to our batting in this series. Not to mention that around half of his runs since his return are against SL and Zimbabwe.....

True.

And today, he's saved -- won't be able to put up yet another poor show, and saved from the axing.

I don't think it's broken, but will be badly bruised.

He was not even seeing the ball today, let alone scoring + hitting Aus bowlers.

Yes he was struggling today. I think he may have got a broken wrist, Wasn't able to move it.
