Should Inzamam-ul-Haq resign as Chief Selector?

Should Inzamam-ul-Haq resign as Chief Selector?

Inzamam became chief selector in 2016, in his initial phase Pakistan was hovering around 8 and 9 rank.

Check the averages and total scores of top and middle order under Inzamam's tenure compared to before, you'll see the difference, batting went thru historic lows.

Picking of players of tours like NZ and England who averaged 9 and 12, likes of Shoaib Malik and Hafeez.

Interfering in roles of the team management.

Inzamam's most devastating blows came after Ehsan Mani became chairman and the decisions post Asia Cup 2018. Pakistan trounced Australia 2-0 with Fakhar Zaman scoring 90 in both innings of a test, it was followed by NZ series in UAE.
Suddenly Fakhar is told to report to NCA due to fitness concerns and is dropped from the series selects his nephew Imam ul Haq inhis place. Fakhar returned and played local domestic matches for his club.
Wahab is inducted in the team again for whatever reason. Wahab pace redeuced and was wayward during the match after which team management fdropped him but could'nt drop Imam as selector did not allow an opener reserve. Pakistan lost home series in UAE for first time 2-1, blame was diverted towards team management.

Barring Australia series where Abid Ali was brought in as a one down option went to open, Inzamam compromised his country to play his nephew and never picked a reserve opener for 2 years.

Sacking or his resignation only won't do, investigation and scrutiny should be done so that individuals who do such crass nepotism are not allowed in the future.

Even if it were true, you cannot prove nepotism when it comes to his nephew as the guy has a 50+ batting average and had a better WC19 than Fakhar.

As for seniors any other selector would have done the same as all are cut from the same cloth.

We have actually become a little better scoring 300 regularly but still losing because other teams are more professional than ours and their management are able to use modern methods to improve tactically as well as strategically.

That is why we need some fresh ideas. I say PCB hire people with more intellectual capacity and enough cricketing knowledge to create a framework of selection based on objective criteria. The reason are not seeing talent come through is because these players no longer trust the system and leave the game to pursue other careers. Unless we create an environment which is built upon trust and merit, we are going to remain an inferior team with patches of above average performance like we showed in this WC by beating 2 of the 4 teams making it to the semis.

You and TalhaSyed shooting arrows inthe air really on this forum to defend this guy, making stupid statements.

Just give one answer, in ODI format, is there a match Mr. Imam ul Haq finished for Pakistan in last 2 years even against minnow sides or bottom ranked teams?

How many top order partnerships Mr imam ul Haq made with his opening partner?

Why his opening partner and one down [who were sent with him] why their averages have gone down?

man of the series in SA.... and 150 and good 50z in england series.. if you want a kholi out of him then he isnt kholi ... lol

Even if it were true, you cannot prove nepotism when it comes to his nephew as the guy has a 50+ batting average and had a better WC19 than Fakhar.

Certain details about Imam ul Haq's average, this is his average against Top 6 ranked teams

vs india 6.33
vs NZ 23.66
vs WI 2.00
vs Aus 29.00
vs Eng 92.66

by looking towards average, Imam is doing well against England and South Africa, so focus on these 2 teams where he is doing fairly well. When Pakistan is batting second Imam's average comes down to 30-35.00. Pakistan has most a lot of matches in Imam's presence.

Now I prove how this guy is not a contributor to the team. He is doing well personally but his partner Fakhar Zaman average has gone down to 30 in 2019. His team is comin short of 30-40 runs due to his dot bowl game.

The figures that are not mentioned is the no. of drops Imam has done that madeour team bleed like in Asia Cup or how many catches opposition dropped of Imam. In almost every match in South Africa as well as most matcvhes where he scored 50 or above he was dropped once or more than once.

Now where nepotism can be proved. For a World Cup if one checks no.s above, player with such erratic figures against teams like India or Australia, a professional selector would've provided a reserve opener in the squad. Absence of batting reserve from the squad and such criminal negligence shows the nefarious intent of the chief selector in protecting the opener whether he flops or does well.

Unless you allow the length of beards cloud your judgements, he needs to be dismissed with immediate effect. He's been a toxic individual ever since he was the captain of the Pakistan team.

Please compare his performance against the top 6 batsmen in the team and then decide whether it can be proven he got in the team because of his uncle.

There are other players whose performances have been dismal and will get the chop before him. His position is the team is secure for now whether you like it or not. He has made the best of the opportunity provided to him. Even the coach likes him from what I have heard.

Fakhar has to take responsibility of the poor shot selection to get himself out on multiple occasions.

Hahaha comparison in cricketing sense is not about no. of runs and averages. This is for those who don't know the game and their approach is just stats and nothing else.

And if you are doing well and your partners are scoring less or playing dot balls to cover up for you, then there is something wrong and only proves the person in not contributing for the team.

Coach report will be out soon, it'll dissect what were the roles of different players. What it seems imam did not have any role and others esp. Fakhar were imposed upon to keep a better strike rate as well protect selector's nephew from bowlers like FErguson or Mujeeb who are above mr. Imam's pedigree.

I'm not against Imam as person if I see him taking the team burden on his shoulders will not criticize himu unfirtunatekly his technique can't bear better deliveries. I was studying wherever he has scored more than 40 he been given chances, either dropped in slip or closing fielder. Most of the timeshe has been dismissed softly giving caught and bowled to mediocre bowlers. These figures should also be covered which shows the real worth of player.

Fakhar was forced out of the team against NZ test series in UAE and ODI series v Aus in UAE both places Mr. Imam was kept with the team. check the results and Mr. Imam's average, so long.

He's been average. Selected obvious players. But liking disliking was clear. After denying Fawad Alam his rightly spot even when Misbah and Younus retired he was clear that he'll not select a player who he dislikes

Sarfaraz Ahmed regarding Inzamam's role in team selection:

"Inzi bhai is the Chief Selector and he was with the team for the 1st 4-5 matches. We picked the team with mutual consultation between Inzi bhai, Mickey and myself in the first 5 games. We all try to play the best team, sometimes we don't get the right results"

Is Chief Selector part of Team Management as well?

A big LOL Bilal7 who says Inzi has nothing to do with the team selection. How will you defend him now ? The team selection for the 1st few matches is a big reason we are out . :))) :))) :)))

It's an open secret and blindingly obvious Inzy wasn't just involved, but actually picking the XI. One of the reasons why he's doing this is to ensure his nephew isn't dropped.

As Mamoon once said, this guy will defend Inzy, even if he picked a three-legged donkey :))

Inzi needs to go. I don't think he is suited to a CS role . And somehow he is picking the 11 which is not his role.

The PSL does not amplify all talent in our domestic system. This idea that the PSL is throwing up domestic talent is utterly ridiculous.

Inzamam should resign but won't and his replacement won't be any better.

Had Pakistan made it to the semis, the same Inzamam and Sarfaraz would be getting hailed as heroes just about now.

I think that Pakistan cricket would be much better served if both Inzamam and Sarfaraz are persisted with. I say that even though I myself was agitated about some pathetic cricket played by Pakistan team in this world cup.

However, we need to give credit where it is due. The turnaround and fight shown by this Pakistan team after the initial drubbing is something worth respecting.

I fear that going in for mass resignations and removals can get counter productive. Passion should give way to reason. Take this loss in the stride and learn from mistakes. Focus on rebuilding with the next world cup in mind.

Lol Sarfraz is unfit and past it, he doesn't even merit a spot on the team performence wise. Inzi us a toxic individual.

The great turn around is due to the players and not because of Sarfraz or Inzi. Even if Pak made semis I would want them both booted out

You can't just look at a few WC games and decide they can stay, you have to look at performance over the last 2 years. And they have been woeful. Sl

Stick with the core of young players, kick Sarfraz and Inzi out , and select some new players to fill out the rest of the team.

Safaraz is not just a player, but also the captain. So who do you recommend to take over as the captain?

Imad Wasim has captaincy experience and is a pretty good all rounder who merits a spot in the team - he hits hard and bowls economically. So he would be my pick, and give Babar vice captain and let him take over after a few years.

Shameless captain and Cheif selector both should have resigned by now in an ideal world.

Both needs to be sacked.

The Fact that Inzi has had such huge input into final x1 also is pathetic in itself. He should be sacked, time to move on.

Wow this is unbelievable. Inzi should be sacked for this alone.

Sarfaraz and Inzamam should be shown the door with immediate effect. Mickey and the rest of the management/coaching staff can stay.

The next captain should make the team on 100% merit and not be allowed to pass fake fitness tests, and the next chief selector should have zero input on the playing XI. His only job should be pick the 15 man squad and that is it.

There is no way that Inzamam can stay any further - he should take the honorable route himself.

He will not resign. The doom and gloom of the first five games have been erased by the last four wins. Pakistan fans and media are happy with their team's performance. So nothing is going to change except for possibly Mickey Arthur getting sacked. In subcontinent changes only happen when everyone is angry or disappointed which not the case right now with Pakistan cricket.

If Amir Sohail is the next cheif Selector then we are doomed. His Favorite 38 years old Hafeez will be made Captain of the ODI side.

We replace one idiot with another. Its time to have a foreign selector. Our former players are dishonest and lacks integrity.

Absolutely not

Inzy's main job is to select the best available players in the country which he did. He has been a huge upgrade over the days of Haroon Rashid, Wasim Bari, etc.

It is PCB's responsibility to ensure that all roles work within their limits.

I have a really big soft spot for him, but the selection of hafeez and malik is dark spot on his era

Instead your posts got deleted following your imature "Mr hard man" comments

I don't think he's that bad. All the squad he's picked haven't been that bad, apart from 1-2 selections, and he's better than a lot of alternatives.

PCB not extending Inzamam's contract as chief selector: sources

Pakistan Cricket Board has decided not to extend the contract of chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq following the national team's failure to the reach the World Cup semifinals, according to sources.

Inzamam, sources said, had shown interest in the extension of his contract for another year but the PCB has decided to go for a new selection committee.

The contract of Inzamam, a veteran of 120 Tests, ended with the World Cup after occupying the post since 2016.

The name of former Test opener Mohsin Hasan Khan is being tipped to become the new chief selector as he has also worked in this position in the past with good results and has also served as interim head coach of the national team.

"Pakistan's failure to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup has led to the decision to release Inzamam," a source told PTI.

But his nephew, Pakistan's opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq has defended his uncle at a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday.

Imam had said that the chief selector alone could not be held responsible for the team's poor show in the first five matches of the World Cup as there were other members on the selection committee also and Inzamam picked the players after consulting the captain and coach.

Whether he stays on or leaves, Inzamam's tenure has been a very positive one for Pakistan. Our performance in ICC tournaments has been superb and we also reached the summit in test cricket along with being arguably the best T20 team in the world. Most importantly, he identified several young players and backed them to come good, which they did, ensuring that the future of Pakistan cricket is in good hands. This in no way means that he's perfect or did not make mistakes; everyone makes mistakes and Inzamam is no exception. His gamble with Yasir Shah did not pay off and he could have been harsher by dropping a few non-performers earlier than he did but that is easy to say with the advantage of hindsight. Despite his shortcomings, he did a better job than any other Chief Selector and hopefully will be given more opportunities to work with the team, preferably in a coaching capacity.

Thank you, Inzamam, the greatest selector we ever had.

As much as I hate Inzi for some of his stupid selections but when it comes to Mohsin Khan I would rather have faith a brick wall than this 4th grade Bollywood superstar.
