If I'll apply your logic, I'll have to kick out Tendulkar in every match that India lost during 90s where he got out at 60+
Manish failed to pick even single.
Cricbuzz hosts a match analysis show with Harsha, Zaheer and Ajay Jadeja. Aaj Tak hosts a cricket show with Madan Lal, Harbhajan Singh, etc.
Every single of those individuals I mentioned said that Pant should have completed the chase and getting out like that was a gross mistake on his part.
And it's very obvious to understand why. It was a slow wicket where a new batsman will always take time to adjust himself to the pace of the surface. And I wouldn't have said anything about this if Pant got out to a good ball. But he got out playing an absolutely unnecessary shot at a time when 8 was required off 11 balls. That kind of temperament is a big issue. It's the exact reason why someone like Glen Maxwell has underperformed so much even though he has all the shots in the world.
Dhawan also got out before the match finished. But there was a big difference in the manner in which he got out and the manner in which Pant got out. And that difference in dismissal is a reflection of the temperament of those 2 individuals. So I will reiterate. It's not the dismissal as much as the manner of Pant's dismissal that I am disappointed with.
