What's new

Should MS Dhoni make way for Dinesh Karthik for World Cup 2019?

If I'll apply your logic, I'll have to kick out Tendulkar in every match that India lost during 90s where he got out at 60+

Manish failed to pick even single.

Cricbuzz hosts a match analysis show with Harsha, Zaheer and Ajay Jadeja. Aaj Tak hosts a cricket show with Madan Lal, Harbhajan Singh, etc.

Every single of those individuals I mentioned said that Pant should have completed the chase and getting out like that was a gross mistake on his part.

And it's very obvious to understand why. It was a slow wicket where a new batsman will always take time to adjust himself to the pace of the surface. And I wouldn't have said anything about this if Pant got out to a good ball. But he got out playing an absolutely unnecessary shot at a time when 8 was required off 11 balls. That kind of temperament is a big issue. It's the exact reason why someone like Glen Maxwell has underperformed so much even though he has all the shots in the world.

Dhawan also got out before the match finished. But there was a big difference in the manner in which he got out and the manner in which Pant got out. And that difference in dismissal is a reflection of the temperament of those 2 individuals. So I will reiterate. It's not the dismissal as much as the manner of Pant's dismissal that I am disappointed with.

You need not to check it
You know MSD hadn't played any knock as good as Pant played yesterday

But instead of praising him for that knock you are still finding faults in his knock & blaming him for match getting close :salute
Pant got out when India needed 8 runs from 11 with 7 wickets left so he has done his job by the time he got out
But then it was ur another fav Manish who huffed & puffed in such an easy finish so you are trying to put entire blame on Pant

"1 teer se 2 nishaane"
You are defending Manish & at the same time making Pant look bad since he is a threat to Your Thalapathy's place in the team :ronaldo

Okay buddy. You have obviously understood everything about cricket already at the tender age of 17. You can wave your Pant flag as high you want. I will not stand in your way. But I won't change my opinion either. :sarf

Dhoni fan brigade almost having a meltdown on the online world. We've gone from he's no batsman just a blind slogger to he's not a good finisher. Needed one knock from Pant.

His PR agency will now have to work overtime to undermine Pant who could well be unstoppable from here on.

He was unstoppable wasn't he. It's stroke after stroke of unstoppable leg side hoicks

There's no use of crying now, it's too late. Dhoni is going nowhere.

This is going to be our top 6(unless some injuries occur )

Rohit
Shikhar
Legend *
Rayudu
Pant
Dhoni +

It's set. If they are fit, this is the line up

Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli
Rayudu
Dhoni
Jadav
Hardik Pandya/Jadeja
Bkumar
Kuldeep
Khaleel/Umesh
Bumrah

I wish the hack Rayudu gets exposed again in AUS and Rahul somehow takes full advantage in T20s and Tests to stake a claim for no.3 in ODIs. Kohli will go at 4. That to me is the best combination

I just don't understand cricket but am also well aware of your intentions.I also know that You have realized can't get away from me by using your most lethal weapon i.e stats and facts which you distort so that it can fit your narrative. :bm

Few weeks back here, you were lecturing everyone that we have developed a culture of bashing our cricketers who are just doing something they love,we need to stop being harsh on our players blah blah
Now what happened to your philosophy,Sir?
Ridiculing a 21 year old youngster who has made it into the team on merit by calling him a hack, bumping posts on him every time he fails and now when he plays a match winning knock then you are trying to find fault even in that knock :cr7

Of course I am. Because this is about the WC XI. There is no scope of developing a player during a WC. You either come into a WC fully prepared to be in the XI or you stay as a backup.

Not once have I said that Pant shouldn't be in the scheme of things. I'm sure if you look back and read my other posts you'll see me calling Pant "India's future".

So of course I want him to keep getting games and develop. Which is why you will see that I haven't said a word about Dhoni being dropped from T20Is because even I want Pant to get as many games as is realistically possible. And I want the team to be able to take him to the WC as a backup keeper. But player development is something you can afford 1-2 years prior to a WC. Not when you are 6 months away. At this stage you need readymade players i.e. well rounded players. And as talented Pant is, he is not well-rounded. He is still a one-dimensional player.

I would be very happy if we can take Pant instead of DK to the WC. But for that Pant has to prove himself too. He has to show a lot more game awareness and most importantly, the ability to finish chases. Because that exactly how DK has risen in the last 2 years - by finishing off successful games for India (in T20s). That is what the role (no 5/6 bat) demands. And he needs to tick that box for people to have faith in his ability to perform that role consistently.

Yuvraj Singh believes MS Dhoni’s presence in the middle is crucial for India at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Singh, speaking at an event in Mumbai, said Dhoni was a great captain for India, and that his experience and “great cricket brain” would prove crucial in high-pressure situations in England and Wales later this year.

Dhoni’s position in the Indian middle-order has been a topic of polarising debate, largely owing to his slow strike-rate. Despite that, big figures in Indian cricket, including Sunil Gavaskar, have thrown their weight behind the former India captain.

Dhoni has also been in decent form so far in 2019 – he was Player of the Series after scoring three consecutive half-centuries in the ODIs in Australia, and guided the chase on a couple of occasions in the limited-overs matches in New Zealand.

"I think Mahi (Dhoni) has a great cricket brain,” said Singh, who was Player of the Tournament as India won the 2011 World Cup. “As a wicket-keeper, you are in the best position to monitor the game and he has done that fantastically over the years. He has been a great captain. (He’s) with the young players and guiding Virat (Kohli) all the time.

“I feel his presence is very important in decision-making. He had a fantastic tournament in Australia, and it is good to see him hit the ball how he used to do. I wish him all the best.”

Singh was also full of praise for Shubman Gill. The 19-year-old batsman made his India international debut in the ODIs against New Zealand, but despite poor returns of 9 and 7, Singh said his rise so far had been amazing – he carried on his Player of the Tournament-winning form at the ICC Under 19 World Cup to the first-class circuit, scoring at least a half-century in his nine matches.

“I was excited to see him (Shubman) play for India,” he said. “It is amazing, how he has improved so much. He came back from the (India) A tour, scored lot of runs in domestic cricket, straightaway got an opportunity.”

Dhoni probably done enough to make it to the World cup at 4-5. He had a good last two series before the WC but it is to be seen how he performs in WC as that is all what it eventually comes down to.

MS Dhoni’s presence will help Virat Kohli during World Cup 2019: Kumar Sangakkara

After the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad and coach Ravi Shastri have made it clear that MS Dhoni will be a key part to Virat Kohli-led Indian side at the ICC World Cup 2019, former Sri Lankan captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara has thrown his weight behind Dhoni.

While Sangakkara said that Rishabh Pant’s emergence is an “outstanding discovery”, he felt that Dhoni is secured about his position in the team.

“Rishabh Pant has been an outstanding discovery for India. So competition for places whether you are young or old actually drives you to do better. It just depends on how you take it. Whether you look at it as an opportunity or a threat,” Sangakkara told India Today.

“I think MS is quite secure about who he is and how he has gone about it and I think he understands people very well. So he will understand how to navigate those issues not just about selection but also personalities in the dressing room,” added Sangakkara.

Although Kohli and the team management were always supportive of Dhoni, despite the loss of form in recent times as a batsman, the former India skipper, with his Man of the Series performance in the ODI series in Australia, gave enough indications that there’s a lot left in the tank.

Sangakkara highlighted the fact that Dhoni’s experience at the ICC event will be pivotal for the team’s fortunes and will benefit Kohli as well.

“When it comes to a World Cup, experience counts a lot. Not just experience but that is close to its best. I think MS Dhoni will definitely find a place in that World Cup 15 for India,” said Sangakkara.

“Also I think with his experience, Virat will want to have a very cool head on the field, if push comes to shove when they are in a tight situation in a World Cup,” concluded Sangakkara.

I might be Dhoni's critic these days, still won't support a mental midget KKD over Dhoni.

Dhoni on one leg is still better than an absolutely healthy KKD.

Every other person is trying to do a «Manjrekar on Sachin» with Dhoni. And we know what the result could be.

Dinesh Karthik made his ODI debut before Dhoni. Dhoni grabbed his opportunities and became a legend. Karthik has failed to grab his numerous opportunities. He is at the most good for a few cameos. I have lost count of the occasions when Karthik could have played career defining knocks that would have cemented his place in the side. He failed to deliver almost with the regularity of a clockwork.

DK is good for T20s but his terrible fielding will cost us games in ODIs. We already have some amazing fielders in the playing XI.. Likes of Rayudu, Pant, Jadhav, Chahal, Khaleel, Shami, Kuldeep! Can't carry DK in this legendary ATG-field XI!

He's proven tonight he's still leagues above DK.

His game awareness and ability to deliver under pressure is unbelievable

Dinesh Karthik is only second to Umar Akmal when it comes to getting opportunities consistently and not capitalizing on them.

Thats ultimate insult for Umar, to be mentioned in same sentence as Karthik.

Heck No! As much as its times up for Dhoni, we still need him to hold Captain Kholi's hand and lead the team.

Hit the nail on the head. This is the real reason MSD is still in the team. He is only 37, he can play another world cup :ma
