Should Pakistan refuse to cooperate with the US in Afghanistan if it does not interfere in Kashmir?

A far fetched idea but why hasn't the PTI IK govt explored this option? Use whatever tools you have at your disposal

would be chopping off the nose to spite the face. as said above, pak has interests in afg that are served by cooperation with the us.

No, cooperating is in Pakistan and Afghanistan interests.

What Pakistan can do is get some kind waiver/assurance from the United States to support separatists/rebels in Kashmir similar to how we supported rebels in Crimea against Russia. If Pakistan support a resistance and not be put on the FATF black list then that would be a victory.

Good idea. Apply for a waiver/assurance for pushing jihadis on the FATF website. Apparently they also give away free white shrouds. Now coming back to reality. Why are you always looking for a big daddy to approve something. Just do it with no fear. What ever happens happens.

In the world there's always a superpower that controls the world order, you must not antagonize them to get your job done. It's the same reason why India stopped buying Iranian Oil to not upset Big Daddy America :)) Pakistan needs to do the smart thing, lobby hard and get waivers from global powers to support separatists.

But again India went with the 370 thing after Trump declared himself Messiah. While you are right that there is world order, doesn't mean they will grant you wishes for pushing jihadis and such. It works like this, if India did not have any other source for oil, they would have gone with Iranian oil anyway. At the end, national interests matter. If Kashmir independence is in Pakistan's national interests, you don't need permission. Just go ahead. It's as if you are ready to conquer India after downing a plane but aren't because u are waiting for America:'s approval. . In that case, somalis should start attacking USA after downing a couple of black hawks.

Please do, and **** off the US. And watch them decide to stay in the region for longer.

Even otherwise, I refuse to believe the so-called peace deal will lead to an end of American presence in this region. The day is not too far when the US (maybe even Trump when he is reelected!) decide that Taliban have broken some part of the agreement, and decide to ramp up their presence again in Afghanistan.

Brilliant. Ask the world to grant Pakistan waivers to support jihadis. And then Pakistanis act surprised when Saudi, UAE and most of the Ummah supports India.

Hello? No one likes a nation that so identifies itself with jihadis and so called 'non state actors'. you have already eroded your country's brandname enough and the goodwill that the Ummah and the world has for you.

How I wish a strong leader emerges in Pakistan who can steer 200 million people away from this obsession with jihad, and ushers them into the path of progress.

The purpose of the post is lost on people. It's about using whatever possible sway you have on the powers that matter, the US needs Pakistans help in Afghanistan right now, why doesn't Pakistan utilize that to its advantage and get the Americans to keep modi in check in India?

They should not refuse but they should make clear to US that our priorities have changed and we have a more urgent and important issue to deal with on the other side of the border - of course if you can help us with that in any way, we might be able to allocate more time to help with other important matters of interest too :)

Another point , what happens if the matter of Kashmir gets put to UNSC which Pakistan and China are pushing towards ? That would put Uncle Sam in a very awkward position , and should they veto or vote against Pakistan’s stance , where does that leave matters with ref to US-Pak strategy on Afghanistan?

Pakistan won't bother even if they could.

Kashmir is not that important beyond the PR rhetoric. Now if there was oil underneath the land, or if the Kashmiris were really entrepreneurial at something, then its a different story.

It's the difference between permanent peace and permanently hostility. So Pakistan will bother.

No. It would be extremely stupid if Pakistan link Afghanistan with Kashmir. In fact I think Modi will be extremely happy if Pakistan do that.
