Should Pakistan replace Imam-ul-Haq with Mohammad Nawaz for the remainder of the Asia Cup?

If we think out of the box.

We need a spinner however having Faheem, Shadab etc. strengthen our lower middle order and big hitting abilities.

Mohammad Nawaz has opened in List A as well and is good against pace.

I would get him in instead of Imam and strike a good team balance with his left arm spin being useful as well in these conditions.

Nawaz
Fakhar
Babar
Malik
Haris
Sarfraz
Asif
Shadab
Faheem
Amir
Hasan

I have replaced Imam & Usman with Nawaz & Haris respectively.

Haris would also give us good 3-4 SLA Overs.

Out of the box much?

Not a bad XI, but change the order - Hari at 5 isn't going to do much, while Sarfraz at 6 will be something special.

this actually isnt the worst idea

I think Nawaz has opened in First Class as well

will never happen though

Not a bad idea, if I am not wrong Nawaz has scored runs in list A cricket while batting in the top 3.

Despite the fact that I can state with 100% certainty Imam will struggle against tough teams, I think it would be unfair to drop him now.

Yes, Nawaz I believe scored 187 as well as an opening batsman.

Mickey Arthur should look into this for the next match.

I'm not sure why people discuss dropping Imam when you know it isn't going to happen, at least not for the next match and probably rightly so.

We would certainly be going nowhere with Imam who so far has done nothing against stronger teams such as NZ, India etc. while bashing minnows only.

Going forward into the tournament, This has potential to work in our favor well.

I am not disagreeing: have been saying this since his debut. But its a process. Thank God for the asia cup and upcoming tours by ANZ: he will be gone by the end of it. And malik most likely after the south africa series.

I believe in Horses for Courses, if the balance of the team improves by opening with Nawaz and also getting an extra spinner in, fair game.

I'm no fan of Nawaz but after the Sri Lanka debacle last year we should've learned going in with less than a minimum of two spinners in UAE is a recipe for disaster.

However if he's to play it cannot be as an opener as his batting contributions have been nonexistent for Pakistan.

This is a good XI.

But I don't see them dropping Imam ul Haq.

Even if we consider current operating circumstances, It is better for the team to drop Imam and open with Nawaz as it gives full time spin option as well.

We need to first do basics right, and suggestions are about thinking out of the box:salute

Very short-term decision and if I may so, reeks of what panic looks like. Ask yourself, what is your priority? Asia Cup or a long sustainable opening partnership that you can also take into the WC?

Having Nawaz open is a short-term option which will almost always be restricted to the Asia Cup. Outside Asia, Nawaz will be as useless as an opener as an ejection button in a helicopter.

You are building a team combination that you can take to the World Cup. The Asia Cup is a medium of getting your team combination right and in no universe does Fakhar and Nawaz make an opening combination that could be taken to the World Cup.

In fact if you put Fakhar and Nawaz together and for some reason, these two hit it off and give Pakistan strong starts ultimately leading to a win in the Asia Cup, it will actually be more damaging to Pakistan's chances at the World Cup. Your best bet is either to stick with Imam and Fakhar or if you're unsure about Imam, try Shan Masood or some other genuine opener.

Very well put. It's an idiotic suggestion. Imam is not going anywhere and even if he is to be replaced, Shan Masood is next in line. Though if it were up to me, I would ask Babar to open for Haris to fit at one down position.

Nawaz should replace Faheem or Aamir.

Why would we drop Iman when he has been scoring consistently albeit against low rank teams. How often has he played against strong teams in Lois to merit judgement that he could not develop his game to play them well. How many of our recent past and present players have scored heavily against good teams with the exception of Fakhar from current squad?
Pak team batting is already fragile with allrounders in place of proper batsmen, with limited batsmen like Malik and Sarfraz batting at 4 and 5. Nawaz is a nothing batsman similar to Anwar Ali.
We just need to fit in Haris Sohail perhaps in place of Faheem and expect Haris and Malik to make up his quota of bowling. Give Amir last chance to perform and then replace him with Shaheen or Junaid if he does not.

No, you don't drop Imam after one failure. However, Asif Ali does not look like a #6 batsman for me. Drop him and maybe rest Amir for the next game.

For short term basis , I would say Open with faheem.

Imam should be dropped , and shan masood given a go.

Mohammad Nawaz should play today

The Afghan batting lineup is stacked with all right handers, and Nawaz can spin the ball. I know people would want Shaheen to be given a go. But it is not a fast bowlers pitch or conditions by any means. I would say Pakistan should drop Hasan Ali or Amir to play Nawaz.

Nawaz is an excellent fielder and can chip in with the bat as well. He has done well in the UAE before and deserves a go today.

Imam won't be dropped for some time yet averages 66 another 15-20 matches are pretty secure.
Nawaz can only play for another fast bowler or Faheem possibly.

could be one of those watershed moments in Pak campaign in Asia Cup

great post. Nawaz has been gold for Pakistan in today's match.

Nawaz has always been given a short stick by the fans while garbage like Fahim and the overrated Shadab have been put on a pedestal, so it is nice to see him give a shut up call to the fans even if it is short-lived.

Nawaz is a good player and should be kept around the team as a Spin Bowling allrounder. Could improve his batting.
