Should PCB ban centrally contracted players from using social media?

I’m not sure these guys are sensible enough to use them. They are an absolute disgrace and add nothing to the PCB global image with their pathetic antics. They have no idea of who they are in contact with and how dangerous those people are in manipulating their fame/stupidity for their own evil designs.

You get women leaking obscene content of our players such as nudes and private chat. You get ICC somehow tapping into telephone and text conversations these players have with suspicious people leading to bigger issues. Then these idiots post anything and everything with cringe caption or broken English making us the laughing stock of the world.

What is this nonsense? Do these guys need PR assistants to deal with their mobile phone interactions like parents do with Kids? Can the PCB seriously look into this before further damage is caused by these clowns!
 
hopefully we are 2-3 generations away from the sensible players whom will also bring good rep on social media front.
 
This is not 1975. Let them enjoy their life. The players from the past were equally worse.

Educate them instead. This obsession of banning everything in this country has resulted in nothing. They will find other means to satisfy their thirst.
 
They have a life.
Just teach them how to use it properly and there would be no problem

Seriously speaking - the potential for reputational damage is huge so PCB need to have 2-3 people check each tweet.

Most of the social media posts are done by player's agents.

This isn't a bad thing, but it just looks a bit odd when huge English words are used when a player can barely speak any English.
 
I think banning will be a bit too much.

They should be encouraged to be responsible with social media. That's about it.
 
No. They should be trained on how to deal with media and how to use social media correctly. Our players can't articulate themselves in any language and can make stupid statements in the media.
 
No i don't think so people use social media in day to day life. However, they need to be trained in etiquette but even that is something you should know as a human being naturally.

On a personal level, I am not a fan of these young cricketers from SC showing off but not being known outside of India is not exactly a negative thing. The 5 cricket crazy SC sides amount for half of the world's population. How many NBA rookies are known outside of USA?

They're adults, the PCB should stop helicopter parenting them. Let them live their life, their answerable for their own results.

If it would have been a Pakistani player he would have been grilled by Pakistani fans. Some would have said how he has attitude issues and thinks too big of himself.

Media reports indicate that PCB will put in a new policy for use of Social Media for its contracted players. According to the new policy, the players will not talk on social media about the activities of the team during any series.
 
Pakistani cricketers should have the right to pursue their tiktok and insta interests. You have to understand for this generation, mobile phone is an extra limb.

Tough one to be honest. Purely as a captain he should not have tweeted this. However, as a player who bats at the same numbers as Kohli, has seen him grow as a cricketer when Babar was not in the Pakistan cricket team and has been an inspiration for him as a young batsman trying to make his way at international level and who has just entered his peak which Kohli touched some years ago I think he feels a sporting connection.

Even as a captain we have to realize he is youngest in the cricketing world amongst the major cricketing nations (With only Pooran being a year or so younger who is LOI specialist). So Kohli has been one of the sporting inspirations for him during his early playing days instead of being a direct rival as many tried to make him out to be despite the difference of so many years.

I personally believe players should be able to have their opinions unless its something which is anti PCB or against interest of Pakistan cricket. In this tweet I see nothing more than a top ranked player of this era just supporting one of his inspirations of younger days during his tough time. If it would have been just for PR, Babar have had multiple opportunities in the past and he has never even talked about any other Indian player. To me it seems to be coming from an honest place of a sportsman but, obviously we cant read people though we can surely predict with somewhat reasonable accuracies the tendencies taking into from their past behaviors.

However, definitely something which can have polarized opinions without a doubt.
 
Now Babar will get trolled indefinitely by the Indian fans for every failure, he can also fall in a spiral of decline with no way out.

At the moment, he is enjoying a lot of praise for that tweet but yes you are right, this could well turn to hate/abuse if his own form suddenly takes a hit

Remember this - twitter accounts are managed by their PR guys.

Rizwan is not at par with Kohli, Babar is, so makes more sense.

When have nude pictures of our players ever been leaked, that’s some made up stuff right there mate. I agree with you about the captions but that makes them a laughing stock not the whole of Pakistan or Pakistanis world wide, and anyone who did judge Pakistan or Pakistanis by a caption of a cricketer would be nothing to loose sleep over as a person with an IQ of that level opinion isn’t worth worrying of.

Coming back to the original post, I think players social media needs to have rules; such as not using it whilst a test match or even a series is going on, maybe can use or post between matches. I would also definitely get the players some sort of social media training and account handlers as most celebrities/athletes have someone whom handles there social media for them still allowing the players to have a say but prevent any stupidity and get the right image across. I would say’s it’s unfair to completely ban someone from using social media as they are humans at the end of the day and are entitled to there freedoms also, many people use social media amongst close friends and family only and not to the wider public it would be unfair to tell such an individual he cannot communicate or enjoy with them specially when you can be away from home for long periods. I would definitely say whilst a test is going on or on match days of LOI’s you cannot use it as focus needs to be on performing and no exterior media should be playing a part in influencing your and the dressing rooms mindset. I would maybe also introduce not using during tournaments specially if you make it to the latter stages.

I'm not a fan of certain stuff our players post; whether its posted by themselves or their PR guys. But at the end of the day its their name and self-image and they are free to do with it as they please. Enforcing 'rules' on them is a draconian thing to do. And PCB has no right to do so, unless a player uses social media to say something really egregious and offensive.

Commenting on OP's topic, no, let them be. Many international players use social media to make side income for their business or whatever. Those who misuse them, it's their own problem. ICC and the rest of the board is not their mother. Also, this is not an exclusive problem with the Pak players only, there are several idiots from each individual country who posts nonsense on social media. Fans are no different.

What a silly comment. This is like saying, Sharukh Khan is one of the highest-paying actors in the WORLD. Why bother acting like a movie star when he isn't known much in western countries. Iyar's can act like wtv he wants for his 6M followers.
 
Social media can sometimes lead to controversies if players make inappropriate comments or get involved in online disputes.
Excessive use of social media can sometimes disrupt team unity and harmony. A ban might help in fostering a more cohesive team environment and banning its use could help players maintain better focus on their training and performance.

Pakistani players should pay more attention to their game and performance instead of indulging in social media and making fun of themselves. The identity of these players should be based on their game not social media.

Players are humans.

And what that guy said to hassan ali is being stupid. Hassan sisnt say anything wrong. Its just that people have issue with urdu language, especially the upper class that talks in english and cant say a sentence in urdu or avoid it.

Pakistan team represents the middle and lower class, not the upper.

Also 90 percent of the times these tweets and pist are by the players social media managment company and not them selves. So when you see those post in english, those are not by them.

I would rather have players themselves make post than their managers
 
Some are more sensible than others on social media.

Some are a disaster waiting to happen.
 
why should they ban? Social media enables athletes to engage directly with their fans, fostering a sense of connection and loyalty. This engagement can contribute to a positive fan base and community. So i couldn't find anything wrong in it!
 
I'm not sure the guy criticizing Hasan on his social media tweet was criticizing him on his English, or lack of it. He probably was just criticizing the salivation of Hasan Ali on Shadab modeling. Generally you don't see any cricketer posting a tweet like Hasan Ali's.
 
No. Unless they're posting offensive material, there's no problem. You can't just take away their freedom to a normal life because you dislike their personality.

Laughing stock to the world? Only us South Asians care about this stuff, it's totally irrelevant. No normal spectator is analysing the social media of every cricketer they see on their screen. PCB has a bad image due to its own failings, not the social media of its players.

That will be too harsh. What PCB can do is to set some guidelines that these players should follow while using social media.
 
Not a complete outright ban but definitely should be serious repercussions for silly tweets directed towards team mates etc.
