Should PCB organise some sort of PSL All-Stars series?

For the 'As we near the end of PSL, Pakistan squad for Australia T20' thread, I was about to post a regular squad, but then I thought that the squad for that one-off T20 match should be filled with PSL performers who aren't regulars of the team (so not including the likes of Babar, Rizwan and other T20 regulars). But this then led me to the All-Star idea.

Basically, every year, (after the PSL season ends), PCB organises a PSL All-Stars series against an international team that is touring Pakistan within a few weeks or a month time after the PSL season ends (so for this year it would be Australia). In my opinion, this All-Stars series should be a maximum of two T20 matches, mainly because I am of the opinion that all T20i series should be a maximum of two matches (as they are more like friendly matches), plus the second match would allow for changes to the starting 11 (so that everyone in the squad plays at least one match).

So, overall, there is nothing to lose if PCB were to try this. Something new is being tried, and something unique rather than the ordinary bilateral T20s. It's somewhat similar to the World XI vs Nation series that used to be common before I started watching cricket. I really enjoyed Pakistan vs World XI series in 2017, even though it wasn't a proper World XI. And I think this would be popular too, as long as it doesn't get repeated by all the other t20 pyjama leagues.

All-Star series would also give a taste of international cricket for players that have been performing in PSL but have not quite made it to the international level (and is overall a great reward for PSL performers). Umaid Asif is one example, he is a PSL legend, and so this would be a great fit for players like him. Would be pretty epic to see the All-Star kit they wear (as long as it's not spammed with sponsors)!

Another thing to mention is, a good tournament concept like the T20 Champions league (which should be happening) won't exist simply because BCCI doesn't want it to happen, and so if BCCI doesn't want it, it'll never happen. But there is nothing stopping PCB from organising a series like this.

And obviously, the all-stars team is basically a team of the tournament for the (latest) PSL season. (Everyone must play at least one match).

My PSL 7 All-Star Squad (As of Match 27)

easiest way would be to play an all stars game in england during the english summer. All stars vs hundred stars..now that would be a good match..proceeds go to charity..they could make it a weekend double header to promote the game etc..have competitions for kids and the crowd..

Yes. I like this idea. England has enough of a Pakistani diaspora which would mean big crowds too.

Good idea

Yorkshire and Qalandars already have an arrangement.

Could have Qalanadars, Yorkshire and PSL all starts in a short tri-series.

I reckon we could pack out Headingley.

It's a PSL All-Stars, so the main point is to play it in Pakistan, and I prefer to play it against an international team that will tour shortly after PSL. So shouldn't be in England. Plus, I am against the Hundred, I will never like it, because it's not good to have more than three formats in cricket (but anyways don't want to talk too much about this).

PSL All-Stars vs International Team match in Pakistan will have big crowds too. PSL is not an England T20 league and isn't played in England. PSL All-Stars series should be in Pakistan, obviously

Why would an International team want to indulge this?

Yeah, that's the biggest problem I see with this.

But instead of having a bilateral t20 between Pakistan and Australia, have a PSL All-Stars vs Australia match instead. If World XI vs International team matches were able to happen, then surely this can too, is what I am thinking

How would Pak benefit from this?

You have to pay extra to the foreign players to stay after the PSL is done and those local players that did well in the PSL will miss out on a chance to showcase their talents against an intl. side.

This just makes no sense whatsoever!

You don't have to pay extra for foreign players. Perhaps, a term can be made in the contract that the salary the players receive will be for the duration of the PSL plus the All-Stars Match (if they get selected for the All-Stars match). There will be only like 4 - 5 overseas players in the squad of 18, so plenty of local talent. Plus this isn't the only chance for local players to showcase their talent, the PSL itself is there for this (as well as other domestic competitions).

There is nothing to lose, and if PCB end up not having any benefits, then so be it, at least something new is being tested

Imagine a international player announcing retirement from international cricket only to play it again with a PSL All Stars team.

Exactly. Instead of this, I would like to promote the idea of playing Pakistan A vs Pakistan B in the off-season as our talent pool is expanding. I think India used to do it regularly previously.

Pakistan A:

Fakhar
Rizwan (c)
Haider Ali
Azam Khan (wk)
Umar Akmal
Khushdil
Imad
Faheem
Usman Qadir
Naseem Shah
Shaheen Afridi

Pakistan B:

M Haris (wk)
Shan Masood
Babar
Malik
Iftikhar
Asif
Shadab (c)
Nawaz
Rauf
Mir Hamza
Zaman Khan

I would love these 2 teams playing against each other in a LOI series. And I am sure that if these matches are held in the stadiums where the PSL has not reached yet like the stadiums in Peshawar and Gawadar, then a lot of people will go to see these matches in the stadiums.

cant see it happening, dont want to see this happening either, calender is too full as it is every year - rather see a teams tour more along with the under 19's playing test matches against each other

This series is going to be a maximum of two or three T20s, can be replacement for bilateral t20 matches. It's not a whole new month-long tournament. If that can't be fitted into the calendar, then nothing can be fitted in

What's the fun in this? It's just another regular National T20/ Pakistan ODI Cup domestic match, but with the best players selected. Plus they already do this in their training practice (for test matches and T20 WC prep).

Why wouldn't they demand extra?

You want them to work overtime, but want them to stick around for these extra matches at the same price?

Would you do overtime for free?

Makes no sense whatsoever!

OK, so what you are proposing is that PCB should keep the bubble for another week or month or whatever time an international team arrives in Pakistan for a bilateral series, they should keep all the security arrangements, they should extend the hotel booking dates and they should keep the blockages from hotel to stadium routes for that time period. It does not sound like fun for PCB and is not practical. Add to that the additional money the overseas players will require for that fun series, lol.
