I think he is young and his body needs rest he already played 2 tests we need to rest him? Your opinion guys?

Only rested by having an extra quick in the attack.

They need four quicks, but Hasan Ali is too short for the Johannesburg pitch and there’s no Ehsan Adil or Wahab Riaz, so they have to play SSA.

Yes, he should be rested. He is only 18 years old, he will probably open the bowling in the ODI's and will also be selected in T20s against south africa. Also has PSL and big home tour vs Australia before world cup so Pakistan managment, coaches etc. should treat him well so he is 100% for World Cup.

He's not ready for international Test cricket. He needs to get strong and fitter so he could maintain the pace in all of his spells. Also at this stage, he needs to be bowling 25 overs a day regularly on dusty pitches to make him better. However, such is the state of the domestics that if you send him there he'll get 7 wickets in 10 overs and the innings would be all over in 35 overs. It doesn't help him at all.

I completely disagree.

How much domestic cricket did Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis play at that age? Almost none!

If I was Wasim Khan I’d advise SSA that he will be reserved for national duty and overseas contracts, and that I don’t want him to play any domestic cricket at all, ever.

He should be managed properly he's talented and his workload should be maintained properly with professional coaching, dietician, trainers, physio, psychologists etc..

Pakistan should handle him properly and they might have another fast bowling great..

Different era. Can't compare Wasim and Waqar to Shaheen. There was almost no analysis on bowlers and the run rates were so slow that it allowed bowlers to bed in. No such luxury available to today's bowlers. Wasim and Waqar would also have struggled mightily in their initial games had they debuted today. Also both Wasim and Waqar had raw pace at 18-19 which Shaheen doesn't have so he has less margin for error.

And I'm saying the same thing that him going back to the domestics is a waste of time as it will not help Shaheen improve his bowling at all. He needs to play Ranji Trophy.

I think this is the right way to go.. PCB must help him to join any club in England where he'll learn a lot.. At the same time PCB needs to focus on our domestic structure plus facilities as well so we can produce good talent..

Don't break your new talent so soon @PCB. Rest him. Series is already lost.

If he's 100% fit then he should play. Can rest in the LOI leg of the tour. There are no dead rubbers in Tests.

A win in last test can give him a world of confidence. Unless he has fitness issue at the moment , he should play. He can be rotated for ODI's.

Why not?? It's not as if him playing will make any difference:vk2 The poor man's body must be aching after the two hammering we've taken:rabada2

Don’t play him. It’s not even so much the bowling that’ll take its toll but he throws his body around in the field like he’s 5’8.

No need to risk him for moral victories

i don't think any Indian bowlers is taller than Hassan. they all did fine in SA. your obsession with height is ridiculous. Height does add value but its not everything. Hassan has enough skill and should do fine. i don't expect him to make a huge change but he won't do worse than those in the team. Pak fast bowling cupboard is not all that great. They do fine in on surface which offers them something. If SA is smart they will dish out a fairly flat deck in the next match.. that will fully blunt Pak attack and their own attack will do well due to better quality and speed.

There are no dead rubbers in test cricket. India took inspiration from their sole wins in SA and England to finally win a test series in Australia. Dropping your best bowler even when you’re 2-0 makes no sense.

it is totally different now.. Wasim, Waqar didnt have the same media exposure that SSA will have.. opposition team will do more analysis and will come up with plans. he has to play more and get stronger and not waste sitting on bench. he has to either go back to FC or if Pak does not trust their own FC setup send him to counties. Counties used to be finishing schools for Pak players anyway

Winning a test in SA will give lots of confidence to Pakistani team. SA batting is weakest and then some more may be missing in the next test. Pakistan needs to play the best possible team and try to win.

Actually Hasan Ali is REALLY short - he's 5'7. Like me.

Even Ryan Harris or Malcolm Marshall would tower above him. And that's a major problem for a quick bowler using the Kookaburra ball, because from overs 20-80 it's hard for a short pace bowler to find a length he can't be attacked from.

I saw a brilliant quote about this once.

It went something like:

If you are the height of a Glenn McGrath, you can pitch the ball anywhere on an area the size of an A4 piece of paper and be hard to attack, because the batsman is stuck between going forward or back.

If you are 6 foot tall, like Imran Khan, you have an area the size of a 7 inch record to aim at.

But if you are 5 foot 7 like Hasan Ali, your target area is as small as a matchbox, and if you miss it you're going to leak runs.

These Test matches are Gold Dust for any developing young fast bowler. The experience they get is incredible and cannot be learned in any training session or nets. Unless Shaheen is tired, injured or does not want to play (I cannot believe that) I would play him 100% for his future development. Rest senior bowlers you want to protect who are carrying injuries. But this young man is a talent of the future and the more matches he can get under his belt the better.

It might help of course if the batsmen batted better to ease the issues on the bowling department. Then of course, selecting bowling all rounders where possible and perhaps tweaking the make up of the team

Sir, You have any tips for Shaheen to increase his pace further??

No harm...bring in Hasan or Faheem or both.
But this is Pak Cricket...they wont be thinking at your level.

NO. This is the best place for him to bowl. He might not get a chance to bowl at such lively wickets soon , we will see him operate in deserts or zimbabawe or srilanka. Let the bowler live his life.

Agreed. The kid will burn out soon as he is playing all 3 formats. Rest him and bring in Hasan Ali.
