Shaheen is our best bowler and he has pretty much played cricket non stop for months, without a proper rest.

Should he have been rested in a series that we should be winning comfortably?

To me it makes no sense to risk our best asset in a series vs Zimbabwe.

Hundred percent he should ..i read the comments of babz today which i dnt agree with.

We have rauf wahab n hasnain more than enough

I think Misbah doesn't have the confidence that his team can beat Zimbabwe without main players.

An injury waiting to happen.

Hassan Ali
Naseem Shah
Rumman Raees
Shadab Khan

Who's next.

How can we know? Only Shaheen and the people very close to him know his body.

It will look bad if he breaks down though, but so far he's seemed ok.

He should have rested for the one day as well.
Shaheen should take a stand and make him self non available.

Resting him would've been better but 4 overs is not gonna kill him. It's not a big deal.

Shaheen is someone who responds better to regular cricket.
If he rests, his body becomes less flexible and more susceptible to injury.
This is why he was so rusty on the England tour after not having played that much before that.

That was after months of rest. Surely he wouldn't get rusty being rested for a couple of T20s.

Well he is not playing in the first T20I, so at least some rest for Shaheen.

Rightly so. Not sure what there is to gain by playing your premier ODI and Test bowler in T20i

I would like Naseem to be playing this format and ODI more before being rushed back into the Test side

He is not needed in this series. This was an ideal opportunity for
Akif.Unfirtunately he got injured.I can't think of any other young fast
bowlers who could have been tried.

Good decision finally the management have used thier heads.he should rest the whole t20 series

Yes this was a good series to rest him in. He is going to play against New Zealand and in the PSL play offs. This series is meaningless for Shaheen as he is an established player for Pakistan now.

His form in recent t20s has probably counted against him
Hasnain and rauf are better t20 bowlers

New zealand will be his biggest test even bigger than england as the ball swings and is bowling the best he is ever

Yes it was right to rest him and he had been playing all formats for sometime and had not had much of a break at all for the last 4-6 months including travelling.

Now he'll be next seen playing in the next few days for LQ in the PSL qualifiers.

Did you not watch his performances for Hampshire
Compare it to Rauf in the big bash

He was ordinary for Hampshire till the last game, where he bowled brilliantly and continued to bowl brilliantly in the National T20, where he was either the highest or 2nd higher wicket taker. He was also the best bowler on display in his last T20I against England.

Shaheen is our best bowler in every format, Rauf and Hasnain don't even come close.

How can you call him out best t20 player when all our other players including Shadab have huge international experience in foreign leagues
Shaheen got a few 5ers in the recently concluded domestic league and suddenly he's the next umar gul

Not the next umar gull but the next wasim akram dont hate appreciate it :)

And off the field he goes with what looked like a muscular injury.

It was good to see him back bowling in the latter stages of the game and he looked fine, which is great news.

Came back on and was bowling at a good pace.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Management will sacrifice any player to save their own seat. Hassan Ali, Shahdab, Naseem Shah, Ruman Raees and now Shaheen.

Now signed up for this season's The Hundred too.

It will be interesting to see how the PCB handle his workload this year.

I am a firm believer that Pakistan should not let fast bowlers play all three formats .

If I was a coach I would play Shaheen in all Test Matches and 60 % of OD only , NO 20 20.

Rest him for t20i series. He is almost guaranteed a spot jn World Cup squad.

Selectors should try an alternative fast bowler to see if they can perform and give selectors a headache.

Shaheen Afridi has been poor in test cricket as compared to his abilities.

Saw his bowling a bit closely today in the SA first innings. Pakistan being bowled out for 260 odd and when SA resumed their innings you would have expected some sort of disciplined bowling from Shaheen in the first over. But no, he bowled two ugly deliveries and went for 9 . His facial expressions suggested that it was absolutely fine to bowl loose. Back in the day the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Aquib would have been swearing at themselves.

My two penny worth of conclusion is that right now Shaheen doesn't have the attitude or mindset to be a star.

He's banging them in at 90mph so i wouldn't be sure that fitness is neccesarily the problem.

It might be that he just isn't that good right now.

Shaheen has the ability to produce some absolute unplayable deliveries on his day, but his weakness of having poor control over his line is still there years after his debut. I am starting to question whether he is ever going to be able to put this right.

He might just turn into another Irfan, a dangerous bowler who can strike at any time, but also just as likely to bowl absolute rubbish and allow teams easy runs with the new ball.

Genuinely think Waqar has messed with his head . . in my opinion, he is trying to do too many things with his wrist to get that outswing going which is in turn messing his wrist position for the inswing and more importantly has messed up his line and length as well . .

Waqar is yet to show any tangible improvement with any bowler. Shaheen is looking toothless while Abbas and Naseem have been so bad that they've been discarded.

I'm amazed he's still in a job. Surely it can't be long now until he's fired and that should be it in terms of him ever taking on a coaching role in Pakistan ever again.

Pakistan and accountability, what are you smoking my dear?

He should have been rested from the South Africa T20I and maybe rested in some games for PSL.

Yea, I think we are doing a disservice to him, there is no need for him to play in the upcoming Zimbabwae series and so he must be rested.

He should have rested from the SA t20's for sure. Some parts of the PSL would be ideal too, but I don't think he will offer to do that when it could affect his PSL bucks.

I remember even in a WC year everyone chose to play PSL and then inexplicably had to rest for the Australia ODI series where we consequently got tonked 5-0.

Pakistan and accountability, what are you smoking my dear?

Smoking that sweet hopium i guess.

Hope that someone somewhere will realise that if two out of your three main bowlers have been sacked and your fringe bowlers at the time are nowhere to be seen, that it might be a good idea to look at the bowling coach you appointed at the start of all this.

Look at the South Africa T20I squad, its nothing and relatively new so resting even Hasan Ali who's just come back into the side. I like the Pakistan T20I squad nonetheless as were trying new players.

Rest is always good for a player, he's our best bowler no doubt but needs to be rested for the Zimbabwae series in April and should have been rested for this T20I series as well.

I'm absolutely loving the t20 squad Wasim picked and honestly a lot of these guys can do a proper job, Aamer Yamin can be a good new ball bowler with providing assistance to either Faheem or Hassan Ali and so
in that sense Shaheen is not required as much. Lots and lots to choose from.

Obviously. If I were Shaheen, I wouldn't even play in the PSL and take the offseason to rest up and get stronger for a busy upcoming schedule which includes the World Cup.

I think the squad was easy 20 players it gets more tougher when u have to only pick 15/16 so i won't give to much credit for wasim but generally hes going to be a good selector.

he should play the psl thats were hes going to make his money he should be rested for south africa t20s and the Zimbabwe series

I honestly think he's done a stellar job so far and it took guts with the team he selected for this tour. He choose a lot of good domestic performers.

He shouldn't play any of the T20Is against South Africa and neither should Hassan Ali.

Shaheen is a serious injury waiting to happen.

Is this D Waqars thinking? Apparently according to the team management, Shaheens body and elbow condition demands he plays regular cricket to stay in rhythm. If you rest him, he gets out of rhythm and loses a few km/hr in pace

Misbah and Waqar have zero IQ when it comes to player management. Letting Babar get injured before NZ tour in some stupid practice session and now they will make Shaheen play pointless games. Yeah let’s play him vs Zimbabwe and then Fiji and Cayman Island XIs as well.

Misbah has a horrible history of handling his bowlers.

But you have to question the IQ of the entire set up.

Despite the issues SA have had, look at how they handled Steyn or how the ECB rotate their seamers. Also, while Anderson’s drive and determination is to be admired, he achieved the longevity in the modern ECB set up, imagine he was under the PCB’s wing. Pakistan keep resorting to former high profile players brainlessly when they simply are not qualified for the job.

Pakistan may not have established bowling partners for Afridi but there is simply no excuse really.

Shouldn't even be playing all 3 formats. The guy is only 20 and we're already running him into the ground.

Everytime I see Afridi running in for these meaningless games, I feel he will collapse! Needs a break.

Let’s be honest

Misbah and Waqar are forcing him to play to save their job

Would have preferred Hasnain or Hasan to give the lad a break.

Honestly give Hasnain a go, what will Shaheen achieve from this??? The main series is won and Shaheen has PSL next week, give the boy a breather for God's sake.

I dont think waqar and misbah know what managing players workloads means

If they break him by playing him non stop like this, the first competent three-format bowler we’ve had in years, Misbah and Waqar will have blood on their hands.

Both him and Hasan Ali need to be managed very carefully over the next two years. Two world cups coming up, along with a WTC that Pakistan should be one of the favourites to win.

They shouldn't be playing any but the most important test matches and ODIs. T20s are much less strenuous.

That would be too late.

PCB needs to take action now.

I am not sure about the qualifications of these medical staff who are supposedly "monitoring" Shaheen's workload!

Managing workload doesn’t go with PCB.

PCB will not rest even for the tour of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe home series he should have been rested but he played even the dead rubbers.

Misbah and Waqar will play him every single game.

Resting means not give him one game off, well Misbah and Waqar think that way. One of the most idiotic bunch that they have to look after the players.

A serious injury is waiting to happen, it is also one of the reason no Pakistani pace bowler has taken 200 wickets in the last 25 years. Yes Waqar himself was the last pacer to do so.

He is not even bowling Well - I Think Shaheeh like collecting pay check. When has shaheen afridi won team Pakistan a game. Misbah and waqar idiot

It would be appropriate to rest him but seems like the management is too insecure about this own jobs in the short term to care for the longterm damage a serious injury to Shaheen could do to Pakistan cricket.

And we aren’t stopping here. Next up is psl and then the SA tour so Shaheen will have played nonstop practically every game from August through April across all formats.

Problem is that he is put under pressure because of the other bowlers. Probably makes him try harder and open him to injury.

Waqar and Misbah see Pakistan T20 team as a franchise in which they call the shots.

They know The PSL Franchises will run their players into the ground, so this attitude is just to show that they will do what they can to keep their national side franchise afloat.

So Shaheen plays every game in each format in this SA series once again. After this, he's off to play every game for the Qalandars next week

Shaheen's workload compared to that of his contemporaries. Madness.

Does nobody question the management on this fact?
