“We are counting his practice overs and we know how to utilize him when needed. We select him according to team requirements and where we feel that he needs rest, we will look at it. People should stop worrying,”

This basically says we will do as we please n know better
Hes given no justification or reasoning why hes playing every game including meaningless t20s
Why rest Shaheen just for the sake of it? After PSL, everyone was on break.
Posters are over reacting here that he will break down, he needs rest.
The only thing a bowlder might suffer would be fatigue, and that too the bowler would let the team management know if he has been overworked and needs rest.
They are playing zimbabwe most teams would be resting their key players.
Shaheen isn't as good of a bowler that he should be rested. The guy still needs to be learning and improving himself.
Only player that should rest is the captain himself probably
So only good or great bowlers should be rested? How absurd
Rest is allocated on workload Shaheen plays all 3 formats and has done for 3 years now Hes in his early 20s and got his whole career to learn n improve
You dont make someone stronger or better by floggin them
If he breaks down with a serious injury which could potentially ruin his career whos going to be held responsible?

Should Shaheen Shah Afridi be rested for the 2nd T20I against England? or are we waiting for him to breakdown before the T20 World Cup!?
No, we can’t change a winning combination even if it increases a players chances of getting an injury ahead of a major tournament. Shaheen should keep bowling until his legs stop working, that’s when we’ll know that he needs a rest.

Pak management prioritizes winning the match, series over vision for future and long term goals as with every loss they possibly think their position is under trouble. Winning is important but, not at the cost of putting extra workload on players or fast tracking them too early.
Always believed there is a conflict of interest when it comes down to player’s fitness and career vs management’s stable positions. We have had quite a few examples in Pakistan where players were kept on playing until they broke down due to this conflict of interest and players also being afraid of not asking for a rest as supposedly it will look bad on their CV in Pak cricket. Definitely need more open policies where an player asking for a rest to recover his mind as well as body is considered normal rather than a taboo that will impact his selection or put him back in the pecking order.
If you do rest your main players here and there, it not only keeps them fresh and raring to go but it also allows you try someone in their place which helps to keep that bench strength reasonably strong as well which naturally tones down the impact of resting main players with time.
The management is so insecure I mean look at england changing the whole team from game to game to test n keep bench strength strong and here is pakistan afraid to try out a player or two
Who is pakistan going to play if theres a couple of first choices unavailable? The bench strength is totally inexperienced thanks to the management
Shaheen needs to first start winning matches before even being considered for any rest policy

Shaheen Shah Afridi is easily the most exciting new ball bowler in world cricket right now, and like most Pakistani pacers, he has a great skill with the new ball. In a lot of ways, he is reminiscent of the times when Mohammad Amir broke through in world cricket. But unlike Amir, Afridi has a few things going for him. For starters, he is a lot taller than Amir and also seems to be filling out lately with muscles as his body matures as an adult. He is also much quicker on average pace than Amir and perhaps the biggest factor of all, he hasn't been caught in any controversy unlike what happened to Amir. Shaheen has the talent to become Pakistan's best bowler since the great Wasim Akram if he learns his craft in Test cricket as well because skill with the physique is a rare combination to get in fast bowlers.
But all these cannot come to fruition if Shaheen is overworked by the team and he's bowled to the ground. In the last 2 years, these are the stats for the number of overs bowled in international cricket across all formats (not including domestic leagues):
Shaheen - 696
Southee - 619
Anderson - 568
Bumrah - 545
Holder - 538
Starc - 503
Broad - 485
Cummins - 482
Wagner - 470
Boult - 470
Overworking Shaheen and bowling him into the ground can reduce his average speed and he is at risk of becoming someone like Amir who started out as a genuine quick bowler but became a medium fast bowler towards the end. Furthermore he runs the risk of contracting injuries which might affect his career progression. Bumrah's average pace seems to have been reduced ever since he got a stress fracture of his back and now India rest him for a lot of bilateral LOI series and even home tests, while using him primarily for overseas test series and ICC tournaments.
Shaheen has a huge upside to him but he must be preserved as a quick bowler and protected at all costs from burnout due to overbowling.
Workhorse at the moment instead of a prized possession?
As per a media reports:
Shaheen Shah Afridi is likely to miss the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
According to sources, this is due to workload management ahead of the World Cup this year.
28 overs in 10 days and some people are saying that's too much.
There would be a time when our pacers would be expected to bowl 40 to 50 overs every 4 day match.
Stop wrapping these guys in cotton wool.
If a pacer can't bowl 28 overs across 10 days then they shouldn't be playing cricket.
Hes the captain in t20 thier is a world cup coming up it is the correct decision.Wow - this must be a world record of stupidity?
So no issue Shaheen playing useless T20s or PSL but let's stop him from playing in the Test and ensuring a 3-0 whitewash?

Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi may be rested for the third and final Test against Australia in Sydney to manage his workload following the angry backlash the PCB faced after Khurrum Shahzad suffered a serious rib cage injury.
Pakistan lost the opening Test at Perth by 360 runs with debutant Shahzad taking five wickets but he also got injured in the process and was ruled out of the Melbourne (December 26) and Sydney (January 3) Tests.
Pakistan's strike bowler Afridi took just two wickets in Perth and the thinking is that, if the visitors also lose the Boxing Day Test, he will be rested for the final game in Sydney to keep him fresh for the crucial T20I series in New Zealand.
A source said that the team management wants to manage the workload of the pace bowlers, especially Afridi, as the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA is less than six months away and the series against the Blackcaps will be crucial to their preparations.
"The backlash the board and management is facing over the handling of Khurrum's workload has set off panic buttons, plus the form of Shaheen has added to the concerns of the team management and selectors," the source said.
The source added that team officials and selectors had discussed Afridi's case with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf.
"It is in the pipeline that if Shaheen doesn't do well in Melbourne Test and the team ends up on the losing side, he will be rested for the final Test so that he is fresh for the T20I series in New Zealand," the source said.
Idiotic is a simple way to describe total morons running PCB.Wow - this must be a world record of stupidity?

And what historical significance is the NZ t20 series. Will anyone remember the rubbish even after a day or 2.Hes the captain in t20 thier is a world cup coming up it is the correct decision.
So what's the point of this test series, no one really cares about it right now and no one will care when Pakistan lose the next two games regardless of whether Shaheen plays or not. I would rest him in both games and keep him fresh for a series that we can actually win. Plus test cricket is boring and will not be missed when it finally gets consigned to the history books. And what historical significance is the NZ t20 series. Test cricket is the only cricket that leaves a legacy. ODI and T20s are forgotten within a few days except WCs, but people still talk about PK victory in Australia in 1977, or Kami's mistakes in 2010 in the Sydney test.So what's the point of this test series, no one really cares about it right now and no one will care when Pakistan lose the next two games regardless of whether Shaheen plays or not. How did it go when Rauf and Amir wanted to do this?I think Shaheen is a greedy individual like his father in law.
There is no reason why he can't just tell PCB that he needs time off to regain his fitness.
Why make yourself available for every series?
I mean complete rest. How did it go when Rauf and Amir wanted to do this?
This shows that Pakistan will now happily remain a mediocre cricket nation. When you have this mentality than don't accept much from your team.Wow - this must be a world record of stupidity?

Make anyone a captain of T20's, results would not matter much. Btw, I'm sure Shaheen would be remove after the World Cup. He is nothing special.Hes the captain in t20 thier is a world cup coming up it is the correct decision.
I think our younger crop of players just don't like playing Tests. They either feign injuries or make excuses of workload. Wait when the PSL and other Mickey Mouse leagues begin...all would be fit and excited to perform.Shaheen Shah has bowled 18 overs out of 57 overs till now on day 1 of the 2nd test match against Australia.. Overworked again I guess?
Unfortunately, this younger generation doesn't know or care about our history.Test cricket is the only cricket that leaves a legacy. ODI and T20s are forgotten within a few days except WCs, but people still talk about PK victory in Australia in 1977, or Kami's mistakes in 2010 in the Sydney test.

Very likely he would retire from Tests soon. Maybe next year. Now he is captain of t20 team( maybe future ODI team) so most likely he will not play all test series in future.
