Should the third South Africa vs India Test match be called off? [Update Post #67]

I hope the match is played through to a proper conclusion; and it sounds to me like India have earned this right with a brave team performance.

Some other teams would have already whinged their way to an abandonment - I’m thinking England here for starters I am afraid!!

Despite what their newly poached Head Coach has said to the media, I do not trust Gibson’s words: South Africa would love for the match to be closed down without a result. Hopefully this does not happen.

Murali Vijay got hit like 5 times in his score of 26 but he never complained.

It was the fault of umpires and match officials. They should've abandoned the match at the very beginning..

True. And the Indians should have complained too. But Indians were desperate to win so they took all the punishment. Its unfair to expect SA to show the same desperation and not complain if they feel its dangerous.

Southafrican players demanded it. Even after winning the second test they whined avout the pitch and wanted a more spicy one. They intentionally prepared a bouncy pitch because they know that Indian batters r weak against the short pitch deliveries.

They r the home team, they got the pitch what they wanted, now its natural for India to expect southafrica to show a bit of courage and complete the match. They can't have everything in their favor. Had Indian batters struggled to score on this pitch, their technique would've been criticised, not the quality of the pitch.

Indians are not as desperate for a single win that they will risk their lives or serious injuries - especially as sportsmen. They are professionals. They realised the danger is not big and continued to play. Simple. Ball hitting the gloves or the belly is not unheard of. Many players were smiling after being hit - they wouldn't do that with three bowlers over 6 feet were bowling at 145 at them if they feared for their lives. Not tough to understand.

Every team wants home advantage. Thats normal. This pitch is surely not what SA asked for. It has not backfired or anything because nobody demanded it to be like this. Its just a poor pitch which nobody expected to behave like this.

First of all Kohli is truly desperate to win and we all know this. Thats how his personality is that he would die to win.

Secondly even if its not desperation to win, we cant just rely solely on Indian batsmen's judgement that the danger is not big. SA batsmen have brains and eyes to feel and see how big the danger is and their opinion matters too. The final say is and will remain with the match officials. Thats what we should respect.

I know where r u coming from and I respect ur opinion. But u'll called a naive if u think southafrica doesn't have vested interest in it. If they were so concerned about the pitch why didn't they complain about it when Indian's were batting in the first innings or they were batting at 75/2 in the second innings.

Because they were in a comfortable position. But As soon as they got behind the match they started to whine about the pitch. Let me tell u one thing though, this isn't the first I m watching the ball to jump off a good length in southafrica. They r notorious for dishing out these types of doctored wickets to the Asian teams.

I agree that they have vested interests because they fear a loss. But that shouldnt cloud our judgement about the pitch. The 1st and 2nd innings logic isnt good i think because the pitch was acceptable that time. The uneven bounce developed slightly when SA's innings was folding more in the 3rd innings when India were batting. It should have been called off when India was batting but for some weird reason Indians and umpires didnt complain that time.

However i need to make it clear that the ball on which players were asked to leave the field was nothing extra ordinary. It was unfair to India that they had to leave because of that.
