What's new

Should Umar Akmal be tried as an opener in LOIs?

I feel bad for him. He is obviously trying and is frustrated as well because it isnt coming off.

Unfortunately there is nothing like unlimited chances. Not in sports, and not at the highest level at the very least.

He should try to play domestic and look for an alternative career as well.

Why you guys are against UA, and Akmal brothers.
They are the best period.
Should be given more chances until they fail.

he has completely regressed, not even a batsmen anymore, don't think opening will change that, at this stage id rather try maqsood there over umar

IDK why people keep insisting that he should use his talent well. He's a waste if he don't have any sense how to play after this many years.

Even after 10 years of playing cricket professionally he is still struggling versus left arm spin:))) . What a joke.

Leave him guys - dukhi hua bechara. CI tells, he was shot by Sohail today - Kanspiracy????

Way forward is to play as many games Pak can, that way we can see how consistent these players are

You've always been softspoken about him compared to others. Don't even deny.

Good, this is right choice of word - fan boy is a bit too childish at this age.

I do like him, not because of man crash for his size or skin color or for those floating eyes, rather because of his potential & ability, which sadly he never fulfilled. If you could understand batting and watched his first few innings, you would have given me a bit more space here - because it takes a bit skill (actually lot more than a bit) to hit a rampant Bond for back to back to back boundaries on either side of point on either feet on a greenish track. Then, lofting Murali out of park at the first meeting ........ Besides, guy can keep, at least could keep as good as current PAK captain before he started drinking too much (water off course), if not better and after MoYo, he was comfortably best rotator of the cricket shots from PAK in last 10-12 years - add to that his hitting ability on either side & either feet - you should also have a soft corner.

Sadly, he has wasted his God gifted talent, so I am feeling pity, rather than being a hater. I have a soft corner, because I do believe his demise was not only his own fault, rather he was sacrifice of a culture that opposed every flamboyant young PAK batsman from Umar to Maqsood, Jamshed, Sharjeel, Amin .... for the sake of stone wallers. Among young players, Ahmed understood quickly what he needed to do for prolonging his stay in that team - hence we are watching his latest batting now; sadly Umar was too dumb even for pretending that change of moods operand.......

Bro, can you give an honest assessment of the contribution of Misbah in the deterioration of Pakistan's LOI side especially the batting culture? Would be highly appreciated.

Can't think of another player that threw away their ability and initial level of talent like Umar Akmal has, barring fixers etc, I honestly struggle to name examples that went from prodigy level breakthrough talents to absolute detriments.

Never thought I'd say this...but Kamran turned out to be the batter bat in the family. When I first saw Umar I though he was a better version of Kami...but Kami over the years has proved to be the better player of the short ball and has delivered more than his younger sibling. Kami is the best in the family...which is not a great achievement in any regard.

Garbage!
Was never a great in his career, one innings and he was hyped as next Bradman of Cricket.
Mental midget, absolute trash

I try not to hate players in sport as all of them try their best and the result isn't in their hands...but this guy is the exception. Not a shred of intellect when it comes to batting and had any other batsman been given so many chances, he would've come good a long time ago. Hopefully he doesn't don a pakistani jersey for a long time. Unfair to the hundreds of hard working players our there in domestic cricket as most of them would be much more deserving. Pakistani national cricketers are ambasadors of the country. We can't have people like him represent our nation in any way.

Hopefully Babar Azam will be the best bat in the family.

Probably needs a break from cricket for a few months. If I were him I'd focus on getting fit as his number one priority. Maybe play a little cricket here and there to make ends meet if he needs to (for example PSL).

He's probably trying to juggle too many things atm, getting fit, reworking his form, facing criticism in the media.
