At least in the ODI format, we should stop calling them Minnows.

They look threatening in more than half the matches they play and are giving a fight more of than not. Consistently string together wins. Have a superb bowling attack which can bamboozle any batting line up. Have a decdnt batting unit which can put up a score that the bowling can use.

They play to their strengths and have a good gameplan which suits their players.

Conditions in UAE are perfect for them.

I worry that they could beat Pakistan.

Yes. They are very competitive in Asia but they do need a few batsman that can rotate the strike and play big innings. But the bowling looks promising. Contending with India for best Spin attack in the world.

Still minnows..will be proven tomorrow ..they have had their moment against Lankans and that will be the highlight of this tournament for them.Pakistan to trounce Afghan boys.. despite me being annoyed of the shameless loss against India, I have no doubt Pakistan will get a thumping victory tomorrow..In shaa Allah

They for some reason remind of the Pakistan team of 2012-14. Heavily relying on spinners and spin-favoring batters to give their bowlers something to defend. If Pakistan bat first and score something like 250, can't expect them to chase that. But if Afghanistan bat first and score 250, it will be extremely difficult for our batters to win. Their batting remains their achilles heel and even their batters are not very good players of pace.

How many matches have they won against England,South Africa,Australia and New Zealand to be included in the big boys category?

They haven't been given a chance to play a single match against any of those teams.

Next 2 matches will probably decide this. A win over either India or Pakistan would redefine their image, whereas 2 losses there would mean they are still not ready to break into big boys club.

When one minnow team defeats another minnow, both the teams are still called minnows. Afghanistan is a one man team at the moment.

Brilliant stuff...very proud of their achievements

Took Bangladesh years to reach the level they are already at so their rapid rise deserves to be lauded. That said, they are still minnows. They will have to beat more than a few top level teams and establish themselves in tests cricket to no be considered as minnows

Time for some to reconsider their stance about calling them minnows ??

Scored 257/6 against a superb Pakistani bowling attack.

They are not minnows.

Right now, they are in the same level of Zimbabwe in late 90's.

Good thing is, their bowlers are world class and super young. They will play at least for another decade. If they can find 1 or 2 class batsmen, they will be a top team.

They seem to be playing better than us, if they are minnows then we are maha-minnows.

yeah, sure, if it will help you sleep at the night after this match.

If their batting can be improved a bit, they will be a good side. They cant match the skill level of Pakistan or India but the amazing thing is their discipline. They know their limitations with batting so they don't aim too big, get a respectable score and believe in their good bowling attack to do the job.

Rather than calling Afghanistan minnows we should start calling our self minnows.

257 today is Afghanistan's highest score in an ODI against one of the leading Test-playing nations.

I wouldnt call pakistan a leading test nation right now, but good point on the highest score stat.

I think new minnows are Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Pathetic performances by us
