South Africa (190/4) defeat Pakistan (186/6) by six wickets in the warm-up match at Abu Dhabi

Not good signs.

If Pakistan is looking as this being their squad, we are lacking batsmen:

Babar Azam
Mohammad Rizwan
Fakhar Zaman
Mohammad Hafeez
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Hasan Ali
Shadab Khan

Replace Hafeez with Haider Ali or Sarfaraz and we would have a better chance.
 
They were showing Haider in the team but it seems they decided not to play him.

More like replace Rizwan with Sarfaraz and move everyone 1 up.

Hafeez has been performing clutch throughout the build up to this tournament. Why replace him due to a few failures if we are not replacing Rizwan?

I think only one of Hafeez or Malik should play.

Good teams (like NZ/Ind) will exploit Pak's batting weaknesses.

This is going to be Pakistan Line-up. Haider Ali won't be playing against India.
 
The fact that Hassan and Shadab are coming before Haider ali is proof that Haider is not being considered to be in the side at this point for opening games
 
Credit to Asif for playing this brutal innings against the fastest bowler in the world (my opinion) with a lot of pressure too. Could put him in front contention on Sunday...
 
Good score. Although at one point it looked like Pakistan would finish close to 200.

He was decent against India in the Asia cup too.

Asif Ali should definitely be in. I think Haider Ali also but not sure for who
 
Hafeez clearly struggling so may be both Asif and Haider will get the nod.

More than Malik , it is Hafeez who will cost games for Pakistan with his slow batting

He is not in form and at the same time we all know how selfish and adamant he is to hold onto no.4

True, but I think its only one spot available between Haider Ali and Asif Ali. But as the pecking order goes, Asif will get the nod ahead of Haider, which isn't a bad selection.
 
32 of 18 for Asif Ali. 2 sixes and 2 fours striking at over 177.

Impressive when you consider three of those boundaries were against Nortje

I'm saying what could potentially happen in regards with Haider. Now minus his dismissal, Asif played a really good innings today. Would you bank on him doing the same in the actual matches? My guess would be no, but I'd happily be wrong if it means Asif could perform for Pakistan. But as of right now, I would still prefer Haider > Asif.
 
Hafeez is a clutch player, and InshaAllah you will see it against India if the going gets tough.
 
A lot of times, Pak rock up to ICC tournaments with middling teams.

This time they genuinely seem to have a pretty strong and an in form team in both batting and bowling departments. They should be one of the favourites along with India and England for the WT20 title.
 
Very good batting.

Spices up the contest on 24th even more. Teams looking more and more evenly matched

Of course everyone who has some sense of cricket will play Haider at 3 or 4 and bench him for Asif ali is some serious next level bxllshxt thinking which I can’t even imagine
 
Van der Dussen doesn't have that extra crazy gear of AB. Takes time to settle in, before hitting boundaries. He is a good ODI bat, though.

Malik was always going to play it was between asif ali,fakhar and haider for 2 spots.

True, but its all about pressure and mental strength. I hope mentally Pak are prepared and handle pressure like they did in the CT final.

Haider should be in for Asif ali.

He was a bit out of touch with Misbah playing him in all 1-6 batting position, he forgot a bit how to bat.

He was back in at 3 in the domestic t20 and in the first game itself scored 90+

Tournaments top scorer, that is why he got his ticket to this world t20

For now…both

They love the India fixture in general and are not as mentally weak as the others usually are when this fixture arises.

India have 2 very dangerous bowlers (Varun and Bumrah), you will need these two to deal with Varun at least
 
First innings thoughts:

-Fakhar absolutely needs to open, Rizwan needs to step it up quick
-Need to take better advantage of the powerplay, 40ish runs after 6 isn't gonna cut it, could have easily pushed 200 with a slightly better powerplay
-Nice to finally see Asif Ali go off, needs to be backed
-Malik getting some quick runs and minimal dots is great
 
Hassan Ali might win us a game from nowhere also with his batting

Fakhar plays better one down, and trust me Rizwan is a miles better opener then you've seen him so far in the warm ups. He too can play a brutal innings...
 
Have to say, Misbah was right about Asif and Ifti being the best available options for Pakistan in the finishing roles. Asif usually does well in PSL and domestic and seems to be one of the very few Pakistani players who can hit pacers.

That could be the starting line up on Sunday but I would swap Nawaz with Shadab and it'll be a close contest between Pak and Ind. Shadab seems to bring his A+ game against India and is a awesome fielder at point.

He was lucky today and nortje bowled some half trackers. Ifthikar is a better option than Asif ali.

I think Indian left handers Ishan and Pant love right arm leg spinners because they bowl right into their arc. We all know how Pandya will line him up also.

Pakistan need to think very hard before selecting him for this fixture
 
Commies are saying SA would be stronger if Faf and AB were in the XI. I agree.
 
Imad is crazy good against right handers. India should open with Ishan Kishan.

That's the player I am very cautious about : Pandya. He loves striking the ball and loves it even more against Pak. We must have a plan against him.

Don’t bowl spin to him, or make sure it is against the largest side boundary. Give yourself the best chance against him with spin
 
bad news for us is : Asif Ali scored runs today ; I am expecting he will end up 10 balls 9 runs against India
same for Rizwan : 22 balls 17 runs at the top

Good strategy, hopefully we will have Shadab / Nawaz, Hafeez and Malik as spinners, that's 12 overs out of 20 that could potentially be spin.

But I doubt Malik and Hafeez will each get the full 4 overs quota against India.

If I were to take a punt on one of the two to score runs that matter

I will take Asif over Rizwan. Riz is the king of inconsequential runs. Makes no difference whatsoever to our total if he performs or doesn’t perform.
 
Why is team persisting with Haris to bowl in the powerplay?

1-6 overs is the worst time for Haris to bowl. Has the worst stats during this period as well. He had a good yorker. Idk why he changed or rather who changed his focus from the death overs.

Pakistan good T20 team.Peak at the right time.Only hafeez form is worry.Bowlers bowling well. All batsman are in good form. They are favorites to win the cup.
 
Lara must be annoyed to watch batsmen struggle against spin lol He was a master against any type of spin.
