South Africa beat Pakistan by six runs in first T20I to take 1-0 series lead

A good game. Captured everything that is wrong with Pakistan cricket. Give up when it's time to press the screws. Fight only when backs are against the wall - but when par or ahead, give up the ghost. Give up every big moment. No heart.

Otherwise, a good team smh

Pakistani batsmen aren't innovative against full blooded Yorkers, we are still in the 90's, the rest of the world have practiced all sorts of shots against previous traditional weapons and know what to do when the bowlers are looking to bowl full and straight at the death.

Even Wasim and Waqar admit that they would have had to adapt and not just rely blindly on the Yorker at the death had they been playing in today's time

Allowing Phehlukwayo to go for 6.75 RPO on this pitch is criminal to say the least.

The margin might be 6 runs, but South Africa beat Pakistan comfortably here.
 
Pakistani need more batsmen in the middle order. It's full of tailenders at the moment. Shiuld have won it comfortably against this rubbish bowling.

Pakistan will do well on bowling pitches where you can't score more than 150, like the UAE. That's their wheelhouse. You give this team a pure batting pancake, they will lose 9 games out of 10. That's why I'm expecting a first round exit in world cup T20 in Australia. Those pitches will expose both the batters and the bowlers.
 
All was needed was that one hit straight to go over the boundary rather than a catch...

Time we accept that our no.1 ranking isn’t bonafide with this batting line up. A good batting side would have chased this in 17-18 overs against such a mediocre bowling attack. So what hope is there that this side can chase 180+ against a good first team bowling unit? This is what will be expected in WT20 and why the tournament will end in humiliation for the side.

Was a good close match. Well done SA. Don't blame Malik I thought he played rather well today, and really dug in there despite struggles against pace.
 
Well played Malik Babar Talat. In the end we lost because of bad bowling selection
. How could you leave out your best bowler Shaheen out in the very first game unless he had some injury.
Asif Ali continues to fail.

Hasan Ali is better batsman than Fahim Ashraf.
 
To begin with why would you field first when you know chasing isnt just our thing. This mindless cricket has taken its toll now.

Fahim ashraf will always live on that 60.odd agaisnt bangladesh which was a warm up game too.. rana ji absolutely rubbish...no game...no pace...no brain..simple
 
I still think Rizwan should’ve been sent earlier. Maybe before Imad.

Tough tough loss but Pakistan played well. Should’ve backed themselves to beat a average bowling attack like SA.

The blame has to be placed on Talat tbh, he has the same problem as Azhar Ali. He can play 30/40 balls and still look like he’s facing his first delivery. Balance is all over the place and he lacks dynamic hitting ability.
 
I mean why leave out Shaheen Shah Afridi ?? Shinwari needs to sit out and possibly we need to think of bringing back Junaid Khan now for upcoming series

Give him the same boundary size on the on side and he’ll score a match winning 150.

That's their T20 unit minus Rabada. They should worry more about Miller. He was clueless with the bat. Pak's bowling was great in the last 5

Yes.

A very mediocre bowling attack on a batting paradise, yet we couldn't go over the line.

IND batters would have chased this down by the 17th over most likely.

Honestly cant fault rizwan...it was just a do or die situation but in such situations and with a pace attack i would rather have asif ali come in 1 down when fakhar was out. He wpuld hit or bust which is usually the case when he bats at 6 too
 
In the end Pakistan came very close. We will win the next two in sha Allah
 
Hussain Talat dropped the catch of Hendricks and after that Hendricks hit 2 fours..That indeed was costly for PAK
 
In hind sight Imad's wicket was key...he's in good form
 
This must be the first time that a player has been awarded MOM because of fielding.

Talat looked good till last two overs he played he started panicking because there were no boundaries, gave away his wicket due to unease but that is expected for his inexperience at international level .
 
Pakistan bossed 10 overs in the match. The last 5 while bowling and first 5 while batting. They were on the back foot for the rest 30. Still lost by just 8 runs.

. Brainless stuff from most bowlers. That Dala guy had 4 on the leg side fence bowling wide half trackers lol slower balls went horribly awry. Substandard bowling performance. One of the top 3 from pal had to bat right through
 
Not a full strength Pakistan but should have won it comfortably anyway considering how rubbish these SA bowlers in limited format are.

Mostly agree.

His innings wasn't that convincing and showed some doubts.

For now can say it's because of inexperience, nerves.
 
It was a good effort by Pak, if 1-2 batters in the middle had stayed a little longer, the result could have been different.

Despite on the losing side, I enjoyed the match. That's the good thing about T20, its entertaining

I think the last fielder to get MOM was also a South African....Jonty Rhodes in ODI though.

These are not SA's best bowlers or best team, SA said before Pakistan came over that they will use the T20 to test some players who did not get a run in the ODI to see if any of them might be able to make the ODI world cup squad.

Guys like Dala is way fown the pecking order. Hendricks would also not be first choice.
Muller just came back from injury so barely had any playtime recently.

Guys like De Kock and Markram would also be ahead of some of the batsmen currently in.

But this ODI and T20 series has been very good way to test new or fringe players with pressure instead of testing them in easy games.

Nope..there is no certainty anymore of that, we, might not have given that many runs if we played our spinners though..

If only we had restricted them a bit in the first 15 overs...

Not much to give in this t20 series anyway. Its not like its a preparation for the worldcup or anything. For me talat (though he scored 40 on a belter)...fahim and asif are a waste of space..

Pakistan was on a world-record streak of 11 consecutive successful cases in T20Is.

They hadn't lost a single game batting second since the World T20 2016.

India is a team of supermen so please don't bring them in every discussion about Pakistan matches. Well done to Pak making a good match even though we selected wrong team and have too many runs to SA in first 10 overs. Faf and Hendrik played really well.

Yep and I'm pretty sure sides like England and India would have scored 220-240 batting first in these conditions against this type of bowling attack.

South Africa should be overjoyed winning this game with such average players.
 
The margin of defeat does not reflect what a poor performance this actually was.

Precisely. I can't believe some of our fans think Pakistan played well against such an average side. England, India, Aus (even without Warner and Smith) and a first string WI team would have chased this with ease.

Pak were chasing easily till Talat showed his inexperience and started to panic, despite Fakhar gift to SA. Then the usual tale of Pak playing silly aerial shots.Malik did well though.

Anything above 180 even on a cement pitch and our batsman will come under pressure. I mean cmon junior dala should have been belted.
 
Pakistan lost in the first 10 overs of the first innings due to pathetic captaincy and bowling changes of Malik.

Sarfraz would never have allowed the opposition to go over 180+ so easily. The difference was telling in the middle. Malik was terrible, he always found the wrong bowler for the wrong time.

Shinwari was needed to start in the first 4 overs. After those 10 overs, Pakistan ran hard to catch up and failed by the end.

Malik could'nt capitalize after a drop, both he and Azam would never have able to chase this target. They don't have the game.

This team needs Sarfraz now. They have started to lose in the format they are no. 1.

They won 2-1 against this team last year.
They won one match by 6 runs as well.

Brainless batting..asif ali (who only knows how to hit regardless of how the field is set), imad ( our future kaptaan), fahim ashraf ( let me play warmups please) ...and unfortunately these guys will be on a free ride to the uk. Micky is probably counting his remaining pay checks now

Malik actually allowed the run rate to creep up, when he started scoring it was too little too late. This is the reason why when Imad came in, he probably had no faith in him and start belting it from ball 1 but he should have given himself a few more balls before going berserk. Having said I don't mind a player in good form backing himself and playing positive cricket if they have the skills, which Imam has clearly shown during the ODI series.

This side can only chase 300+ in ODIs and 180+ in T20Is if it's Fakhar as we saw in the tri series final in Zimbabwe against Australia. Otherwise I'm pretty sure Pakistan would have lost that game.
 
The lower order don't have it in them. I have no faith in the likes of Faheem, Imad and Shadab to hit them out of the park. A better batting side would have got the runs.
