What's new

South Africa v Australia | 1st Test | Brisbane | Nov 9-13, 2012 |

this match just shows why the negative aspects of test cricket. there is just 1 day left and 2 more innings are left!

Great batting by the Aussies today. It's a pity that the earlier rain will see the match end in a draw.

With an entire days play lost to rain, can't really blame the pitch. With normal 5 days of play, this would have been most likely a result oriented pitch.

Great, excellent fightback from Australia:135:!

Now tell me, what has Michael Clarke eaten ever since being given the captaincy:13:? Another double hundred:14::bow:!

Now Aus should play first 15 overs and try to get at 100 to 110 runs more on board to get lead of 140 and then Australia bowlers should try to get SA out in less than 70 overs under 200(lyon is their best hope, if there is something for spinners) and chance for ozzie to chase it down in 5 to 8 overs.

This is best scenario for Australia to win the match

that why I rate Junaid Khan very highly, he may not as talented as amir or strac but he is clever young man, who knows how to bowl on dead pitches.

The pitch isn't dead, there's plenty of bounce, it's just tennis ball bounce. All of the quicks in the match have suffered, even the Aussie ones.

Bounce or no bounce, even after a whole day of rain, pitch has remained pretty flat. Even during Ashes 2010, it was like a road :|

3 days of cricket is over (excluding rain) & only 14 wickets have fallen so far!

Aus will probably look to declare after teeing off for about 15 or so overs (if they don't all get out that is) and unleash the ....

lol its so funny when some people of specific ethnicity, were getting a bite at aussies the other day when saffers were cruising and now they are calling it a road and so does Cricinfo(no wonder)

Come on aussies, teach these saffers and oz hatters a tough lesson
(looking forward to a ponting century)

thanks

What's with you ending your posts with thanks?

thanks

why don't you name them?
This pitch is good for 2 days and gets flattened on day 4-5. has been happening for a long time that I have watched games here.
Ponting is already out for 0.

i dont get it what road aussies were knee deep in trouble as they had three wickets i say clarke just batted well and the saffers pacemen lost control of the chokehold they had on

you have a heard the saying genuis is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration i rate junaid higher then amir bcz he is 99 percent perspiration if you work hard you can do it and he showed in srilanka on a pitch that was road where as these geniuses failed to contain a choke hold

Yep credit must be given to Clarke, Cowan and Hussey. The bowlers on both sides may have suffered, but everyone who scored well in this match earned their runs fair and square. The surface may have helped, but you still have to score the runs.

I think it's a little too simple to say it's only the pitch at fault in this game.

Australia bowled poorly on the first day(better on the third), south africa bowled and fielded very poorly yesterday, added to that i felt SA lacked intent in the last third of their innings with the bat.

This is all before you even take into account that it's a 4 day match thanks to rain, this pitch was fairly flat but with 5 full days play and good bowling from both sides a result was most certainly possible.

I rate SA's attack very very highly but I genuinely believe Pakistan has the best attack in world cricket

Ajmal alone is the best attack in world cricket?

Rehman is part of the attack and is a world class spinner.

Hafeez is a brilliant option against the left handers and is a great option to stop the runs against the right handers.

Junaid Khan is a world class bowler and he's proved him self on the deadest tracks.

Wahab Riaz is a pacy bowler who's bowled out sides before(India, NZ & England)

Umar Gul is the leader of the attack. Highly inconsistent. Brilliant one day and poor the next day.

I doubt Rehman would be as effective in Australia. Likes of :murali have struggled there. Even harbhajan who loves running through Oz teams has a poor record there.

I wouldnt go by his county performance. Even a relatively inexperienced(in England) spinner like Ojha destroyed oppositions for fun in county. They just cannot play spin.

Rehman is a quality spinner and a true team man. But in Oz, spinners just dont rule. :warne

Apart from Ajmal, rest aren't Test class bowlers.

Rehman only performed against Eng in the UAE. He wasn't mentioned before Eng series.

Gul after playing International cricket for 10 years is still crap.

Hafeez is a stop-runs bowler in the ODI's. Not Test class.

Junaid is the bowler who barely got 6 overs in the Eng series. Yes, he performed well in SL but it's too early to call him world class. If he was world class he would be playing ODI's and T20's.

Wahab is not in the team for past 7 months.

Pak attack is currently one of the worst one in world cricket.

Playing in limited overs cricket is not a benchmark of being world class. And he should be in limited overs playing XI.

Neither we have the best bowling line up nor we are one of the worst. We are in middle. At 4th Position I will say. SA, Eng, Aus and then Pak.

SA's innings really looking mediocre now lol. Clarke well on his way to another 300.

The aussies look in no hurry to score quick runs . Looks like they have agreed to the fact that there can be no result on this dead pitch so keep playing on .

Yes, only 19 runs in the last two overs. Are you actually following the game? We have scored at 4.09 runs per over for the entire innings.

If I were Clarke, I'd simply go after the 400* record. Nothing much's gonna happen upon a declaration anyhow.

wish there was Warne around..he could take wickets just by the force of his personality in such situations..

Lyon is a shame to the aussie tradition of plump blonde spinners..
I hope you did not feel ashamed when you guys played....Sir Raviner Jadeja ...... after Bedi, Prassana, Venkat, Chandra, Habhjan, Jayaprakash... I mean Kumble! :P

you hope right my friend, shame is only for others..not for us.

Now they'll bat out the remaining overs and it'll be a draw. What a bore.

Why didn't pup go after the 400 again?

Patto! What a bowler we have here, 30 wickets in 6 Test at 20. Saffer can keep their Philtrundler.

Haha, look at Patto's celebration there! He was getting on Smith's nerves for some time there.

And whatta yorker to Kallis first up! :14:

Just imagine Australia's future bowling attack, which will consist of Pat Cummins, James Pattinson, Mitch Starc, Watson, and Hilfenhaus/Siddle/Lyon. Deadly, I tell ya. :akhtar

Outside chance for the Aussies here. Saffas have only 9 bats to play with in this innings.

Ahh man! Only if there wasn't a no ball! We could have had game here! (may be we still can)

And I would have appreciated little bit of more zip from pitch as well, Patto would have been better to watch!

Saffers are effectively 56/3 (JP won't bat), and are in trouble. They need AB, Kallis, Amla, and Rudolph to take them to 200 here.

Dont waste reviews on the Hilf Clarke! There is one guy who has a chance at doing this and it aint the Hilf.

What a decision by Asad Rauf! - was a sound but nothing on hotspot - Aussies having a go at him now lol

Peter Siddle is pissed at Rauf and Amla. Nothing on hotspot there. Amla didn't think it was out.

Hey, that was out. Don't care what hotspot says - it's proven to be faulty before.
