So this is probably the worst performance by the South African team in history of WC and one can imagine that their will be a lot of changes coming for South Africa after the WC. What will be those changes???

South Africa will look like a different team in 2023!

South Africa have been poor in this WC in all departments. They have many old players who won't be at the next WC and a couple who aren't good enough. This has been of the weaker teams they have had at a WC.

But in 2023 I expect a different team. Expecting new players and almost certainly a new captain. South Africa have a strong domestic system. So I expect them to have a much more competitive team in 2023.

I doubt they will win the tournament and I don't know how they get rid of the choking issues. But no doubt they will be a better team in 2023 than this 2019 bunch. I'm sure South Africa will remain a strong team.

Good luck to them. I really hope they can turn it around.

Strong school system too.

Need a better coach than Otis Gibson who seems to have a one dimension pace dominated mindset, and a psychologist. Where's Maqbool Babri ?

Do they even have any good young players?

Markram, who has been hyped a lot, is terrible against spin.

The quotas only get harder with every passing year.

He can improve against spin. He is a opener and will bat there after the World Cup.

Malan is a good talent. Rabada, De Kock, Van Der Duessen, Ngidi , and Shamsi. They have good players. There are probably others in domestic that I don’t know about.

Too mechanical for this day and age. Need more flair to even survive.

clearly their first class system aint as good as we think. i didnt see a single youngster in this squad who looked world class.

rvdd is a player from another era, markram looked all at sea against spin, would be surprised if miller hung around with the kolpak option available, tahir is a 40 year old import,

rabada is the only young world class youngster in the odi line up but he looks super tired. quentin is world class but not consistent enough in the top tournaments.

Gibson should be moved on as coach.

South Africa fans on Twitter are furious.

They won't be able to replace the brilliant Tahir, 2023 WC will be in India meaning good spinners are compulsory.

for crickets sake lets hope so..cant let another giant turn into a minnow however they can start by removing the quota system..players should be picked on merit

over the years they had nothing players like Kemp Rindel Botha Benkenstein Behardien Markram occupying spots n eed to change that

Quota cricket has destroyed SA cricket. Rabada had to play every game possible without any rest since his debut because of quota. He looked out of sorts in this WC for this reason only.

They should eliminate the Quota system. Everyone should represent South Africa on the basis of MERIT. Everything else is insignificant.

Depends significantly on Markram's growth as a player. Right now, he's not there eventhough he clearly has the talent.

Morkel
AB
Oliver
Faf(retire in ODIs after this WC?)
Duminy
Steyn
Amla
Imran Tahir

8 players lost within one year, that is bound to have some effect. They might lose more players due to Kolpal after this WC

Sri Lanka could never recover after retirement of Sanga, Dilshan and Mahela, so it is going to take some special effort for proteas to recover from this

They should find good playes who play spinners very well also some good spinners bcz next World Cup is in India .

They should persist with the following players after this World Cup:

Quinton De Kock(C)(Wk)
Aiden Markram(VC)
Reeza Hendricks
Rassie Van Der Dussen
Andile Phelukwayo
Kagiso Rabada
Lungi Ngidi

The worst world cup for SA was getting knocked out in the league stage in their own tournament. This is nowhere near as stupid as that (Pollock could not read a sheet containing all the target scores for DL). How much more embarassing can it get?

However, this current side has what all South African sides have, a lack of ability to win big in tournaments. They are officially ranked 3rd in ODIs going into this tournament...going into the CT they were first if I am not mistaken. In both cases they have failed to show they are anything other than bilateral series dominators, which in itself is not bad but people here are acting as if more was expected.

In my humble opinion, Proteas will keep facing disappointment unless they learn that skill and temperament are the foremost factors for a successful team in world events and their warrior like fighting spirit combined with fire and pride can only take them so far

No one seems to bringing up Janemman Malan for some reason, I think they should've gone with him instead of Amla this WC.

Zubayr Hamza is a young batsman that I feel will come good for them. I can see him becoming the next Kallis/Amla kind of batting mainstay for the Proteas. Their pace attack is well set with Rabada and Ngidi and Shamsi should prove an adequate replacement for Tahir.

SA are finished. Lost to SL at home. That was unthinkable for SA.

Even with QDK Amla and AB couldn't win a WC. It's over for them. WI will be the new force along with us.

Ngidi is a trundler now. Shamsi is a buffet bowler. India will hammer him in any WC. Rabada is almost a nobody in ODI's.

Rabada
Ngidi
Norte

That looks like a good pace attack.

Looking at the recent SA domestic tournament- these names stood out:

Theunis de Bruyn averaged 51 at 101 strike rate
Janneman Malan aversged 43 at 91 strike rate
Kyle Verreynne averaged 64 at 89 strike rate

These guys should be given chances, Zubayr Hamza has mediocre stats in list A cricket so far.

The goal of the Quota system was to encourage blacks to take up sports. That was achieved a long time ago, there is no need for the quota system now and it needs to be removed.

Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka. So they are finished as well?

Malan should replace Faf and that looks like a decent team. Faf is 35 and will not play at the next WC. Malan is a good talent so give him the experience now.

South Africa will be a force in 2023

markram - 28

janneman Malan - 27. average 48 in list A

zubayr hamza - very talented like shubam gill -average of 50 in first class and 45 plus in list A

thenuis De bryun - 27. decent pick average of 38 in list A -

QDK - only 30 years old in 2023. Average is 40 plus

Miller- 34 - should still be good enough imo. if not mulder who will be around 25.

andile phehlukwayo - 27. solid player

Kruger - all rounder of the dwayne pretorious mould. 27

rabada

ngidi

nortje

bowling is simply fantastic based on potential. nortje has an average of 22 in list A and 25 in first class.

As for backups they have dupavillan and bosch plus simpala. bosch has serious potential.

Hope this is the case for the sake of cricket.

Have been so used to seeing SA bully other teams, it feels odd to see them in this state.

Wish the same for WI and SL.

I am not seeing much hope unfortunately especially with lot of players going kolpak route.

Their under 19 team just lost 7-0 to pakistan at home. When was the last time any SENA team lost to any Asian team at home in any (u19,A team, Main team) format white washed at home??

in list A? India's under 19 team has destroyed the saffers several times at their own home. So has pakistan now.

The next WC is in the subcontinent. SA struggle against spin. They must train these new crops batting against spin.

I think Kolpak deals will become significantly harder to come by, seeing as most SA Kolpak players play county cricket in the UK where brexit will have a big effect. Therefore I see the quality of SA's domestic cricket improving with these players being ultimately forced to stay where they are. This is all theoretical of-course however I hope it works in SA's favour.

They need a spinner. Shamsi wont cut it. Maharaj or maybe Bjorn Fortuin.

I hear there is talks of altering the quota system. Inclusion of more players based on merit instead of picking a certain number of non white players. Sounds good to me.

I guarantee you, removing the quota system would mean all of South Africa’s top 8 batsman will be white.

yep I am not concerned whatsoever about their bowling. their bowling will always be fantastic. They have real gems in fast bowling although yes it's drying up these days. but the raw talent is there.

batting is a serious concern but with the likes of hamza, janneman Malan, de bruyn they have a good core to build a strong team.

Makes sense. This world cup performance is a blessing in disguise for them

Standard Bank Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has won four nominations and captain Faf du Plessis three for the 2018/19 Cricket South Africa (CSA) Men’s International Awards.

Proteas captain Dane van Niekerk and world-ranked fast bowler Marizanne Kapp have both won nominations in four categories in the women’s section.

The gala event to honour South Africa’s top performing professional cricketers over the past year will take place on Saturday evening, 3 August 2019, at the Sun Square Arena in Pretoria.

The CSA Awards Judging panel recently finalized the nominations list for the glittering occasion.

Du Plessis, the No. 4 ranked batsman in ODI cricket and the No. 10 in Test cricket, and Rabada, the No. 3 ranked bowler in both ODI and Test cricket, have been nominated in the following three categories: SA Cricketer of the Year, Standard Bank Test Cricketer of the Year and Standard Bank ODI Cricketer of the Year. In addition, either one of them could secure their peers’ vote as SA Players’ Player of the Year and could be a contender for SA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year.

Rabada could also be in contention for the CSA Delivery of the Year where the other contenders are Vernon Philander, Andile Phehlukwayo and Keshav Maharaj.

Du Plessis has previously never won CSA’s highest accolade of SA Cricketer of the Year. Of the other nominees for this award, Rabada has won it twice before in 2016 and 2018 while Quinton de Kock won it in 2017. The fourth nominee, Imran Tahir, will, like Du Plessis, also be endeavouring to win the award for the first time.

De Kock has also been nominated in the Test Cricketer of the Year category along with Du Plessis, Keshav Maharaj, Rabada and Dale Steyn.

Phehlukwayo and Rassie van der Dussen – the latter could also be a contender for international newcomer of the year – have been nominated in both white ball categories: ODI Cricketer of the Year and T20 International Cricketer of the Year. The other nominees in the latter category are David Miller and Reeza Hendricks.

In the women’s section Van Niekerk, who was named CSA Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2018, and Kapp have both been nominated in this category as well as for T20 International Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

Lizelle Lee has been recognized in three categories: CSA Women’s Cricketer of the Year, Women’s ODI Player of the Year and Women’s Players’ Player of the Year.

Fast bowler Shabnim Ismail has been nominated for Women’s T20 International Player of the Year.

“It is my great pleasure and privilege to congratulate all the nominees as we celebrate the achievements of both our Proteas men’s and women’s squads,” commented CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

“And, while we are doing that, let us not forget to thank all those great and selfless people who work diligently behind the scenes to create opportunities for our leading cricketers to excel.

“Our country continues to produce world-class players. Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir all rank among the top men’s players in the world across the various formats and I think we have all been excited to see new faces such as Rassie van der Dussen, Lutho Sipamla and Zubayr Hamza that have emerged in the past year.”

The CSA Awards Judging Panel consists of: Jeremy Fredericks (Convener), Crystal Arnold, Makhaya Ntini, Clinton du Preez, Lungani Zama and Natalie Germanos with statistical input by Andrew Samson.

“As always, these awards are tough to judge due to the stiff nature of the competition,” commented Fredericks. “Our world-class senior players are well established and there is an encouraging number of international newcomers making their mark as well

“The judging panel was impressed by the overall performances during the season of the nominees in the various categories,” Fredericks added.

The CSA Awards evening is the culmination of CSA Day which also sees the KFC CSA Amateur Awards breakfast taking place to be followed by the CSA Golf Day.
