Spoiler Alert - India vs Pakistan games in Asia cup will be closer than many expect

Since no spoiler thread yet from brother @The Bald Eagle , I thought of initiating one :)

There’s been plenty of chatter about the upcoming Asia Cup clashes between India and Pakistan. A lot of Indian fans seem convinced that victory is all but assured, given India’s strong T20 record. On paper, the rankings certainly back that view: India sit at No. 1 while Pakistan are down at No. 7.

But T20 cricket is nothing if not unpredictable. Let’s look at the last five encounters:
  • 24 Oct 2021 – Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets (Dubai)
  • 28 Aug 2022 – India won in the last over
  • 4 Sept 2022 – Pakistan beat India
  • 23 Oct 2022 – Kohli pulled off a miracle win
  • 9 Jun 2024 – Bumrah snatched victory at the death
What’s interesting is that India haven’t managed a single comprehensive T20 win over Pakistan in this period – unlike their more dominant and one sided ODI encounters. Every game has gone down to the wire.

This makes me believe the upcoming Asia Cup encounters will be much tighter than many expect. Adding to the intrigue, it will be the first time in years that India face Pakistan without either Kohli or Rohit in the XI.

I still think India will come out on top, but Pakistan are unlikely to be a cakewalk. Buckle up, this could get spicy.

Both teams have changed since then. INdia had timid team until 2022. Rohit sharma changed his approach only after that. Now even the oldies are gone. But at the end of the day even if it India beats Pakistan by 10 wickets it means nothing. even if it loses it means nothing for India. There is no real upside for India beating any of these teams. That is the bigger picture here.
 
Pakistan dropped both Babar and Rizwan. With their new approach they can be rolled out for 100 and it can end in embarrassment also
 
Doubt it, India is leagues ahead of all the teams in this Asia Cup.

Pakistan won’t be able to compete this time unfortunately.
 
I think 2021-22 both teams were even and remember in the 2022 matches Bumrah wasn't even there and Jadeja also got injured so the entire balance was off and guys like Karthik, Hooda, Ashwin were playing lol.

Post that Shaheen and Naseem regressed plus Shadab did too and Pakistan's entire balance got screwed.

2024 it was close due to the pitch and toss. When India was batting, it was swinging and seaming like some test match.

Wish they had carried Sundar too. Dube is probably for bashing the spinners.

Sundar has the most wickets in powerplay for an Indian spinner also most economical and bowler with best strike rate in power play for an Indian spinner. 20 wickets at an ER of 6.53. Only Mahedi Hasan has better strike rate than him.

I think any Bangladeshi spinner should be safely discarded as half of the matches are in mirpur.But picking washi as a reserve does not make any sense as picking Gill over jaiswal.In 2 years , even suryavanshi will outshine Gill.

Don't be too defencive. This Pakistan team is without babar / Rizwan who were the problem for Pakistan team according to majority of Pakistani fans.

Now you guys get your favourite intent merchent in the team and according to @Rana Pakistan is already won the Asia Cup.

Babar and riz are the only guys who defeated India in World Cup but there form was out so they got dropped rightly... But the problem is that the current team is not doing good also... Some over-hyped players in the squad are not as good as people think they are and they have been getting exposed every game.

It's the only they can bat until #8 and still have depth in the bowling. Sanju vs Jitesh is the only question.

I don't think Washi will play. Dube will be needed as 3rd seamer as well considering the combination India is expected to play.

It doesn't make any sense as dube cant play bouncers.bettwr to have any solid batsmen or wash in place of him.more over dube bowling is atrocious.

It's fight between Sanju /Jitesh if gill is going to play which is likely .

Seems jitesh did the keeping practice in the nets.sanju did outfield practice only.so sanju may be in only only if dube fails

I think he’s sad and worried at the same time

He’s sad because better sense finally prevailed in Pakistan cricket

He’s worried because Pakistan have set themselves up with a better chance to compete with a batting line up capable of breaching a par total with the bat.
 
Pakistan team is bad that Indian spinner varun guy and Kuldeep Yadav will make make them look like amateur players.

India will beat them bad twice in the tournament and Pakistan and India has never played the final in Asia Cup if I remember correctly.

It's T20. One extreme event over can completely change the game.

But one thing is clear...India are a lot better than we were in 2021-22. And Pakistan have gotten worse. And that was the period when it was close between the two sides and the score was 2-2.

during 2020-22 period Pakistan T20 was good as Babar , Rizwan & Shaheen were on their peak although They did loss the matches against Zimbabwe Lanka here and there.

india is finally found the right approach of How to Play T20 cricket since 2023 .

Asia cup second match in 22 was lost due to Arshdeep simple drop catch.otherwise even with dead wood , it should have been 3-1.Pak was a lot better than us in those 2 years as most of dead wood was playing for us and bumrah, jadeja were missing.

Yeah that drop catch killed the game.

But Arshdeep more than made up for it by his performances in the 2022 and 2024 T20 WC games against Pakistan. He was extremely clutch in both those games.

This time we will win comfortably. Arshdeep improve his fielding massively so is his bowling. My only fear is Gill can runied the team combination . He is not fit in current indian T20 team

Jaiswal can do his stat padding happily. He has multiple higher gears than Gill.Bcci screwed the team for financial reasons

Even though he hasn't played for us in a while he is still in top 10 ranking. He is one of the few openers in T20 history that has a strike rate of over 150

RR have a great work ethic.They never let any player with stat padding mentality. All their players were quite good team players and execute the team philosophy to the core.i think it passed from warne, sanga .
 
Indias game to win.

Match is in UAE, spins dominates here. Pakistan will never play sufyan and abrar, and our cricketers prefer to look cool on social media so they tend to play all pacers even on spin wickets plus the myth that india cant play pace.

India on the other hand will pick their line up according to the conditions of the wicket.

The only way pakistan can win is if both abrar and sufiyan play or if there is a fluke where the pitch becomes pace friendly.

For the first time you have made a prediction pragmatically and without getting carried away in emotions so kudos to you. Of course everybody was expecting a one sided indian triumph against Pakistan including myself. But since you and @Devadwal have called India to come on top against Pakistan so now green team has a chance. Also the dreams of remaining unbeaten in the tournament look slim now, although India still favorites.

If you had said Pakistan would win an encounter against India then certainly I would have write them off with zero chance to win.

Just two quick wickets or a single maiden over will completely flip @Devadwal's match-day posts. He will change his tone and start downplaying the same Indian team he was hyping before the match. I really don't get how some people talk so confidently about one team beating the other before the match. :inti

Yes we have seen that in Eng chase of 371 against India recently
 
Pakistan's best bet is Shaheen having a day out. It has always been the case when pakistan beat India. some left arm seamer having a good day. But one common factor was India had that core top order facing those left armers. This is a relatively new unit. No record of weakness against left arm seamers. I suppose Pakistan will open with off spinner? which is where Jaiswal would be mighty effective. Gill won't be. Jaiswal takes apart spinners in power play

Also no right hander heavy lineup.
 
Don’t care if it’s a batting first pitch, don’t care if the stats tell me that batting first in that ground wins you 100% of the games, all I know is that if we bat first, we’re screwed.

I have zero faith in our bowling attack defending anything around 45-50 in the last 3-4 overs. So, we might as well bowl first, get them out and try to chase it down. Our bowlers have lost us too many games vs India.

Whoever win the toss will Bowl first. Dubai conditions are very different to Sharjah and dew may Play the parts . :kp

There are two or three things on which the outcome depends. First, who wins the toss? Because the Asia Cup is starting in September, and in the second half dew could make chasing easier. The Dubai pitch is sluggish, so it will definitely favor India’s spinners.

Negative points: We don’t have Virat Kohli, who has won Man of the Match against Pakistan eight times. Abhishek Sharma is a good player, but he struggles against right-arm inswinging deliveries. SKY’s performance against Pakistan is next to nothing. If we lose two or three early wickets, I still feel we can reach 150–160. And if the top order clicks, then with first batting we can easily get 180–200.

Positive points: The only Pakistani batsman who has performed well against us in T20s is Mohammad Rizwan, and this time he isn’t playing. Shaheen and the other pacers don’t have the same pace they had back in 2021–22. I’m quite confident these inexperienced Pakistani batsmen won’t survive against Bumrah and Kuldeep, no matter how much their fans pin hopes on Saim or Nawaz. From what I’ve observed, these Pakistani batsmen may try to play aggressively, but they don’t have the skill to perform under pressure against big teams—and neither the experience. And yes, if India gets to chase, then with eyes closed, India is winning.

Abrar is a decent spinner but he is no Afridi or Ajmal and even he troubled Gill and eventually got his wicket. What is the weakness of A Sharma ? He seems to be a very dangerous batsman who can change game in few overs. Sufyan got his wicket in emerging cup so can we say he is weak against spinners as well ?

In emerging Asia cup, abhishek scored 35 at 160 sr.He will go after every one.He shields head in ipl against kuldeep, varun , bishnoi etc quality spinners .He smoked rashid quite a bit .
