Winning WTCs is of course important but at the end of day, it is one isolated match being played in England (why?).
A 5 tests series is totally different ballgame. It gives ample opportunity to either team to correct and come back. This is exactly what happened in last two series in Australia. India lost matches but came back and won the series ultimately both the times. So I would not draw the conclusion that since WTC was won by Australia, they would win the series this time too. If team selection is right and brave (big if given Dravid as coach), I would venture to say India will win the series again.
Aussies will have the mental edge given they won both WTCs and WC, but this might just fuel India to beat them even more. See failures work both ways. It could break mentally weak but it can also inspire to prove people wrong so much more too.
I can’t wait for the series to start. Two top teams going at each other should be a blockbuster series and spectacle for cricket. Hope it inspires next gen of cricketers on both sides to take up cricket too.
