What's new

Sri Lanka (171/4) defeat Afghanistan (169/8) by 6 wickets to eliminate them from the Asia Cup 2025

Despite all the divisions in South Asia - India and Pakistan...Pakistan and Afghanistan...India and Bangladesh, I find it funny how everyone loves Sri Lanka. Not that I disagree.
Srilanka with limited resources achieved a lot. REvolutionanized cricket with slingers, mystery spinners (before Afghanistan), always did well in Asia cup. An example team for how teams should evolve after becoming full member. Oppposite of what BD is doing

Sl have given many heart break to pak in asia cup .Some of them which i remember
1)Pak losing to sl in 2014 final when pak was very high in confidence after beating india
2) pakistan losing final again when we had them 60/5 in 2022 asia cup
3)2023 game when we were close to seeing first ever asia cup final between pak and india

That's true. Sri Lanka's rise was remarkably rapid. They looked like a very ordinary side in 1992, and in '96 they won the World Cup. And I will always hold their performance in that final and Aravinda de Silva's knock in the highest regard.

Afghanistan's T20 batting needs a revamp.

They need to replace Karim Janat and Gulbadin.

Need some proper hitters.

Afghanistan could've lost very badly today if not for Nabi's 5 sixes in the final over.

Their batting in T20 is not great currently. They are reliant on 4-5 batters pretty much.

Cricket grew popular in Sri Lanka lot earlier than BD. SL has decent population not too big, economy been study, built good cricket infrastructure over the years. Dont compare with BD as it started cricket a lot late, with a huge population, economy wasnt doing too well, cricket never had the urge amongst general public. 1999 cwc onwards cricket gained momentum, 2007 onwards gained pace and it became the most popular sport in the land, really.after knocking out India out of the 2007 cricket world cup.

You seems more upset on afghanistan losing than actual afghan fans .Your ipl cheerleader are out so first digest that
Seem like you can't accept the challenge and hiding behind Afghanistan. #Nahihaihimmat

I'll give it back in same language . That's the my style , Got it. Now Go and checked The Post which I quote.

:klopp :kp

So same as last week.

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka in Saturday

India v Pakistan in Sunday

So far this tournament has gone to plan for the broadcasters and sponsors

....barring a few obvious roadblocks ofcourse :kp

Before 1997, cricket wasn't that popular in BD. Football/soccer was #1.

After 1997, cricket took off in Bangladesh.

Anyway, newer generations are preferring football again. Gen Z of Bangladesh seem more interested in football than cricket. I hope they will be in touch with both. :inti

Yup.

It is going well like a WWE script.

No Montreal Screwjob yet. :yk

I think SL have pace threat too though. Don't think Chameera and Thushara will be easy to play on that Dubai wicket
I would argue that someone like Fizz will be even harder to play. Because taking the pace off the ball has proven more effective for the pacers on that wicket

No shame in admitting india is currently superior side and pak is no match

SL cricket board was not exactly rich. Their only system was school system. AT the end of the day you need talent, players who can explore other things. In all the 100 years of cricket did anyone think of bowling parallel at high speed like Malinga? Ajantha Mendis introduced carrom ball. They are smarter also highly competitive.

In T20 they need a complete revamp. Their dot ball percentage is ridiculous high. Even Gurbaz has about 45% dot balls in T20 internationals tha tincludes his game against minnows.
Yes they have some horrible strike rates, their top order. Ibrahim Zadran does not seem cut out for T20 cricket at all. And he is one of their key batsmen.

Compared to the rest Gurbaz looks like Chris Gayle. But lately even he has been off-color

BD management is more interested in doing politics and other shenanigans. But finally that Pappn guy is out, hoping for some good things.

congratulations

Thanks.

When Aslanka was dismissed , I stopped watching the game. Went out and Saw BD fans Celebrating in stands from tv at a store. I knew at the moment its done 😂

LOL!

SL needed 42 from 4 overs. Noor and Farooqi bowled 2 rubbish overs and SL ended up winning.

That's the nature of T20 I guess. Things can change in a matter of 2 overs.

All the best games in the tournament has been in Group B so far.

HK v SRL
BD v Afg
SRL VS Afg

Even BD vs SRL had a lot of intensity. SRL was breathing fire in the opening spell.

No handshake drama or anything.

Don't care anymore about results. Glad we went through. Going to have good weekends couple of popcorn matches coming up.

Thank you SRL!

We should care about more results. :inti

2 wins in Super Four would be fantastic. But, they are likely to lose all games or win just 1. Let's see.

Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan to reach the Super 4s!

Sri Lanka stormed into the Super 4s of the DP World Asia Cup 2025 with a six-wicket victory over Afghanistan at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi, ending the Afghans’ campaign and simultaneously ensuring Bangladesh’s progression.

After choosing to bat first, Afghanistan were in early trouble at 79 for 6, undone by Nuwan Thushara’s searing new-ball spell of 4 for 18. Just when a modest total seemed inevitable, Mohammad Nabi unleashed an unforgettable late assault. In the 20th over alone, the veteran all-rounder launched five towering sixes, racing to a 22-ball 60 and propelling Afghanistan to a competitive 169 for 8. His fireworks stunned the crowd and briefly tilted momentum.

Sri Lanka, however, remained composed. Kusal Mendis crafted a masterful 74 off 52 deliveries, striking 10 fours and expertly pacing the chase. He found valuable support from Kusal Perera (28) and Kamindu Mendis, whose brisk 26 not out sealed the win with eight balls to spare.

Kusal Mendis was rightly named Player of the Match for his anchor role, Sri Lanka joined Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage while Afghanistan bowed out with pride but heartbreak.

There is an alternate Afghan PakPassion out there in some parallel universe where people are criticising Karim Janat on how useless he is and there is probably also a Rana Khan and Mominsaigolzai defending him

Turning point of the match.

15.3

Rashid Khan to Kamindu Mendis, no run
loops up but falls agonizingly beyond Rashid. And Rashid then fluffs his lines attempting a run-out and is now in pain, having possibly tweaked his back! Fizzed in on a length on middle and leg. Kamindu plays too early and the ball floats off the leading edge. Rashid tries to get back in his follow-through but the ball just evades him. Kusal, in the meantime, goes walkabouts and would have been caught napping had Rashid hit the stumps with his throw. That turn and throw motion, though, seems to have hurt Rashid

I think turning point was Noor's over. :inti

Even after Rashid's over, they needed 42 from 4 overs.

Noor's over killed the game.

Jayasuriya has really had impact on Srilanka . By far best batting side this tournament. Can’t see Pakistan winning vs Srilanka

Hain?

They struggled to chase 150 odd against Hong Kong

Pakistan fans are too pessimistic towards their own team.

Chill out man.

The way they beat Bangladesh and Afghanistan sends a strong message . The HK match they already had it in hand it was just last few overs they started giving away wickets . Never looked like losing that game . Meanwhile Pakistan batting has struggled vs UAE Oman and Afghanistan too

Who can beat SL in Super Fours?
Now watch as my predictions come to fruition.

Not gonna bet on India as thats too easy and doesnt count as a fair win over you.

Pakistan will destroy Lanka just watch. Haris and Fakhar will steal the show with Saim finally performing and Hasan Nawaz kicking off.

Pakistan 🇵🇰 vs Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 vs Haris and Momin vs @Nikhil_cric and @BouncerGuy

You want some come get some #EndTheJinx

First tell me who is gonna score 150 against them ? Khushdil? Saim? haris? WHO??
Is this another cry to bring Babar back because you think he can score?

Pakistan lost all of their last 5 T20's against Sri Lanka and Babar played in all of the.

Babae averaged 15 and struck at 89 in those matches.

OUR captain is striking at 57 in the event so far... What excuse do we have for that??? Bro. I am not trying to bring Babar or riz back..they were dropped for obvious reasons but you gotta accept the reality that the replacement in the form of Salman was not gonna work...

Give it to him straight Hellion. I've started to enjoy reading some of your comments. Babar fans need a reality check

. Meanwhile Pakistan batting has struggled vs UAE Oman and Afghanistan too

I cannot deny Pakistan batting has not looked convincing in UAE so far, and especially batting first in Dubai. We haven’t been fluent.

I still do not believe these players/batters are bad.

They are good players. They will show it. The conditions in Abu Dhabi look better for batting

Asia cup is going to be disaster for them, the rest of it too...

And their school system produced players for them. BD till this day doesnt even have a proper LIST A playing system, city based teams against each other. Thing is Sri Lanka had institutions in place early on they did their work grassroots. BD never had any such culture. Cricket seemed forced upon us.
