Malinga has proved that a senior player, a capable one of course, is like a sleeping lion which can wake up any time and just run away with the game. Any time a senior player can bring all his wisdom and experience into the game and..... well, do what Malinga does on his day - what he yesterday did. I was so delighted by Sri Lanka´s win that I felt like running shirtless in Germany! Well done Sri Lanka! Thank you for throwing the tournament wide and open!
I feel for England here. The tournament has such a cut throat format (and full credit to the ICC for that) that a team who are red hot favourites to lift the World Cup, and till yesterday were guaranteed a place in the semi-finals, suddenly have a headache and really will have to play well from hereon to qualify for the semi-finals. The problem for them obviously is that their three remaining matches are all against those teams who are considered the other best teams of the tournament besides themselves of course. Mind you, this could work for them, I mean, being tested like this going into the knock-out stage. It´ll massively boost their confidence if they qualify for it by beating the three strong teams of the world.
A word of praise here must go to Stokes. So far in the tournament, England have only twice played on pitches where runs weren´t coming all that easy, and he top-scored in both the games for them. A really brave and lion-hearted cricketer who´s ready to curb his natural, aggressive style of play for the sake of the team, as opposed to selfishly going for the needless big shots just because "I can´t change my game." The blame for yesterday´s loss must massively lie on the shoulders of Moeen Ali. A horrible shot given the situation, given the fact that the match was in the balance already at that point. Disappointed with him.
