Sri Lanka close on 315/6 on day 1 of the 2nd Test against Pakistan at Galle

Good wicket by Naseem but little too late. I hope they don't retain him and send him away to prove himself in domestics.

Dickwella is going all out, opportunities will come. Babar would be hoping that just like Mathews one this drop doesn’t cost much

Safe to say babar azam not been in the office today. Bad tactics letting sl race to 300 and dropping 2 catches. Deary me.

Oh man what Hasan Ali has to do get dropped?

This guy drops catches in every match and he bowls absolute garbage.
He really is an awful player.

He has to be kicked out

He can take Naseem "fear in the eyes" Shah with him.

Surprise posters already predicting Pakistan defeat, on a flattish pitch SriLanka are already 6 down. Last proper batting pair. Even if Srilanka end up getting 400. Pakistan are quite capable getting the same or more. So a long way to go yet. Even Stevens so far, especially with quite a few drops.

That's it for today. Should have held onto the catches especially towards the end. Naseem could've had another in the same over and then the tail would've found it harder.

Gotta make it count when chances are at a premium.

Poor effort from Pakistan today.

Lacklustre captaincy, several dropped catches and some very ordinary bowling.

Sri Lanka in the driving seat.

Should've had 3 today. Didn't bowl badly at all today.

Its the same story with him every game, should've, would've, could've. Send him to domestics and let him earn his place in the side.

Even without coulda shoulda (referring to dropped catches btw), he was still good today. Picked a wicket and was the most miserly.

I don't disagree that he should go to domestics but bashing him for today's performance doesn't make sense.

Disappointing from Pakistan today.

Match not gone, but it doesn’t look great.

I don't wish to bash him but there is just too much unrealistic expectations placed on his shoulders. He was brought into the side has a 90+ mph bowler, someone with X-Factor but now is merely a medium pace trundler who hardly gets any wickets.

Sri Lanka batters failed to convert their starts into big scores as the hosts ended day one of the second Test in Galle at 315/6.

Sri Lanka off to a steady start

Opener Oshada Fernando continued his good form with the bat and along with captain Dimuth Karunaratne ensured that Sri Lanka were off to a comfortable start. The first hour was a quiet one with the hosts reaching 36/0 in 12 overs. After gaining confidence both batters broke free and hit a couple of stunning shots to push Sri Lanka's scoring rate. Fernando was the faster of the two as he inched towards his seventh Test fifty. He got to the milestone with a six over mid-on but was immediately dismissed on the next ball, breaking the 92-run opening stand.

Three overs later, Kusal Mendis (3) departed due to an unfortunate run-out as he was out of the crease at the non-striker's end when the bowler diverted the ball onto the stumps. Lunch was then taken with Sri Lanka on 96/2.

Mathews-Chandimal partnership

Karunaratne could not last long after lunch either. In less than six overs after the lunch break, he was out off Yasir Shah while attempting a reverse sweep and ending up mishitting the ball to backward point, where Naseem Shah held onto a sharp catch diving forward. Dinesh Chandimal walked in and continuing his recent purple patch, joined Mathews to help revive Sri Lanka's innings.

The experienced duo settled in, negotiating strike and moving at a steady pace. There were no demons in the pitch and little turn on offer. The pair brought up their half-century stand with ease and continued to persevere. Mathews got a reprieve on 36 when he was dropped by Babar Azam at extra cover off Nauman Ali. Sri Lanka went to tea at 181/3.

Pakistan strike back in the final session

With the experienced pair of Mathews and Chandimal going strong, wickets were the need of the hour for Pakistan. They got exactly that, with Nauman Ali delivering a crucial breakthrough after tea. A beautifully flighted delivery, drifted in and then turned sharply to get a thin edge off Mathew's bat, which was caught by Rizwan. The 75-run stand was finally broken.

Chandimal though continued to bat beautifully, bringing up his half-century, getting some decent support from Dhananjaya de Silva. He was particularly severe against Yasir, playing some cracking shots. His aggressive intent though would get the better of him, as an attempted wild slog against Nawaz brought his downfall. Fawad Alam snapped the chance at backward point, as Chandimal walked back for 80.

The new ball would then do the trick for Pakistan, as a peach from Naseem Shah would rattle the middle stump, and send de Silva back for 33. Niroshan Dickwell would get a reprieve on 23, with Babar dropping another catch, this time in the slips.

Dickwella, along with Wellalage, would see through the remainder of the day, as Sri Lanka headed to stumps at 315/6.

Pakistan need to make sure they bowl them out as quickly as possible and then Pakistan need to get some kind of lead.

Babar gets intimidated of Shan because of his great leadership skill and influence in the team. Otherwise, tactically (LHB against Jaya) and considering his form, he should have been in the team.
Other point may be regional selection problem.
In last match, there was no player from Sindh/Karachi, to counter the Karachi media, he is selected.
Saud is also from Karachi, he should be given opportunity and he will make sure he nails the spot in team (because of his technique, and Overall record), and solves this problem, and tailender fawad will be booted out of the team forever.

Probably the stupidest thing I have heard here in a while, stopped reading after Babar gets intimidated of Shan I'm a huge Babar critic but this is beyond stupidity that Babar is intimidated by someone who has an average of 29 after playing 25 tests & an average of 22 at S/R of 75 in ODI's although he has played just 5 ODI's but there's a reason he has played only 5 ODI's

Wicket is a good one to bat on, I feel Pakistan will also get a good score batting second. If They can get a lead of atleast 50 runs, I feel Sri Lankans will collapse as a pack of cards and Pak will win it.

Mohammad Nawaz:

"I feel that they scored a bit more than what they should have - we could not avail of a few opportunities that came our way, we dropped some catches but still the situation will be good if we can get them out in the first hour of play tomorrow"

"This pitch is not like the one in the first match, the ball was not turning that much today and the pitch is very slow; The pitch's behaviour will change on the 3rd or 4th day, so we will need to restrict them to as low a total as possible"

About 2 catches dropped by Babar

"This can happen to any player and as you said its rare that this [Babar dropping catches and should we have availed of those opportunities we could have bowled them out or restricted them to a low score"

"It would have been better if we had restricted them to a low score as the pitch was a slow one"

"Behaviour of pitch will change from the 3rd day or do and I feel that spinners will be much more effective then"

Pak need to dismiss SL for under 400 and then get 500 of their own… difficult but not impossible.
