I often tell my friends that it's better not to expect any positive performance from him. If he does score some runs, it's a surprise gift for us Indian fans.
 
Looking difficult for Lanka. That first innings lead is gold for India, right now.
 
Throws away once again Rohit. But I guess he has done enough to be in the squad next time.
 
Another 75 runs from the last 5 wickets should seal the deal but you never know with the Indians. We have become more mercurial than the Pakistan of the yore.

We may be bad at times, but Sri Lankan batting has done nothing of note to suggest that they can chase 300-350 on the 5th day on a difficult pitch. Even the best of batting line-ups would struggle to make 400.

Maybe you guys misunderstood me or I didn't use the right phrase.

Anything over 300 is good but 400 we can't lose.

Remember, in this pitch our spinners are not getting purchase.

And when we have to depend on our pacers to take wickets, ANYTHING can happen.

So in our context, 400 would be awesome (while 300 is good). If we were SA or Aus or NZ, 300 is golden too.
 
300 to defend on this track looks very promising. But Kohli gotta use his spinners wisely in the 2nd inning. I understand this pitch doesn't offer much for the spinners still both Ashwin/Mishra were introduced way too late in the 1st inning. Ashwin in particular looked very flat and ineffective against the tailenders. IMHO, Kohli gotta give short bursts for all the three seamers while using either of Ashwin/Mishra bowling from the other end.

Lastly, Please do not keep Rahul at any slip catching positions.

In commentary Russell was saying that there's every chance of a rain around 4:30 like yesterday and first day. Similarly on 5th day too. If it happens dont expect the game to resume. In that case we wont be having much overs ti get them bowl out like P Sara Test. So I think 325 should be enough and we should declare around tea. In case Srilanka put up any big partnership we can always shut the shop and control the game given we all be the bowling team in the last innings
 
43 overs remains for the day (realistically it could be just about 30 + or - 2 overs with early closes we've witnessed so far). With weather forecast not favoring, India gotta bowl as many overs as possible against SL batsmen to get a result out of this game. This is very much possible if Kohli makes judicious use of spinners in the 2nd inning.
 
It will probably rain soon.

The longer India bat, the better chance Sri Lanka have of coming away with a draw.
 
Sensible is right here, if India has to depend on pacers to win matches they need a healthy cushion. I wouldn't bet on Ishant taking a five wicket haul again. If the wicket assists spin in the second innings, India can defend 250. If it doesn't I would need 350 to feel safe.

If there isnt much help for the spinners then we need a good cushion as the pacers can only bowl so many overs in a day. But still reckon 350 is enough.

Fair enough. Maybe we can settle for 375.

Knock those 30 runs fast.

Losing the series (we won't but let's say the pitch eases out and Kusal and Chandi start slogging around) may feel very bitter after dominating it for like 90% of the time.

Little bit caution isn't bad.

Pakistan chase of 370 so have to restrain some caution. If we had won the first game, things would have been different.

Pakistan recently chased 370 odd here in Lanka so I would be a lil careful especially if there is not much help for spinners. Binny and Ishant did well in the last innings but they might get clubbed by Kusal and Chandi. Better to be safe than regret later.

I don't think India have anything to worry about here , India's bowling has been superb this series and kudos to srilanka for producing wonderful tracks this year. Against pakistan were wonderful tracks as well. I don't think SL has firepower to win or even draw this on this wicket against indian bowling.

Very likely.

But set a unachievable target (but not too unachievable that we end up wasting too much time) and let SL shoot themselves on the foot.

Our pace bowlers are a mixed bag. Better to be safe than sorry when depending on them.

Watching these matches makes me wonder how wonderful a test series would go between pakistan and india , damn you politics.
 
India need to declare now. No need scoring anymore as SLs bstting is awful and last day pitches are hardly batting friendly. Seems like SL bowlers are more than happy to be in the field.

Pakistani batting, especially in the SC is better than SL atm & Indian bowling is slightly better than SL. So, cant really compare the two IMO.

Yeah may be I misinterpreted it. I thought you were saying India needs 'at least' 400 to feel safe. Should be good if they get 400 on the safer side but 330-350 would also be safe.

At last Ashwin made some useful runs - he has been disappointing with the bat so far in the series.
 
Lol this Damika Prasad is going to get killed by Ishant, bowling bouncers at Ishant all because Ishant broke his hand :))
 
What's with Ishant and these send offs. Settle down dude, it's just a game.
