They might not win but Mathews is looking solid to bat through.Plus India has a knack of losing ,won games.

I would have given them a chance if they were 3 down and Chandimal was to bat.

Right now Mathews is the only guy and will likely run out of partners even if he plays a blinder.

Lets see how long they can stretch it

Another 10 15 overs of second session and india will feel the heat, although pretty difficult but as long as Mathews is there we might witnesse a blinder of a contest.

Agree, Apart from Mathews and Chandi none of SL batsman have any potential

All of them are pure hacks.

A very dangerous looking partnership is in the process. SL will think of chasing the remaining total, if the two batsmen stays at the crease for another hour. Not good signs for India.

Oh God Indian fans are the most impatient in the world. Its a test match for christsake.

Its not IPL. Everything doesnt need to end in 20 overs

Would you be saying this if India were the batting team right now?

Hoping a plate of Biryani from your side bro :)))

Nope. Never will I, even in the wildest dreams of mine.

Indian bowling and captaincy are usually far from common-practicalities when it comes to shutting the game which is truly in their kitty. In the last 25 years, i have seen my fair share of games where we have let loose the grip on opponent after having them on ropes many a times (especially where we have to bowl out the tail)

Perera already looks like a much better batsman than the Vithanages & Mubaraks. Why on earth were they even picked in the first place?

Beautifully picked and left googly from Perera.

Such stuff can be demoralizing for the bowler if he knows that batsman is so confident in picking his variations.

They have to just bowl tight and dry up the runs while bowling to perera. He'll surely throw it away.

Don't you now think 380 lead is comforting?

380 being comforting & need at least 400 to feel safe are two different things.

Yes, there is nothing in the pitch for the spinners. But, the new ball is due in 10-12 overs & that's when the wickets will fall.

Hopefully SL will not lose any wickets till tea then game on.

If Perera stays till the end then SL will win no doubt but a big if.

After that all sledging i wish Srilanka wins today ..... These arrogant indians dont deserve victory

I clarified that statement yesterday itself,

Yeah only IMAM Shehzad deserves it.

I didn't remember him doing any sledging in the recent series.

I know him doing it vividly against Canada lol back in 2011.

Pak did hardly any sledging last series against SL.

The way these two are batting right now, SL (not just a draw but) chasing down the target seems more and more a possibility (especially, once the new ball becomes available scoring rate will pick up further).

Mathews is he most underrated batsman of current era this guy score runs like a machine but still dont get much attention while other youngsters (smith , root , williamson , kohli) gets.

Anyways it's still India's game and one wicket here will gurantee a win for India , if they both will occupy the crease for another 100 runs then things might change.

New ball is due soon.

New ball would still move around, You cant expect 70 over old Kookabura to do things

You are completely another level!

Its annoying to see batsman still playing after getting out and batsman given out when he isn't.

BCCI will eventually accept this. I hope its as early as possible.

The Indian players don't want it that's why the BCCI is not brining it In.

Until they say yes BCCI will not budge which makes it a mockery since everyone else has accepted it.

Indian players want it now but the BCCI is stubborn.

Except for one off LBW, Mathews has actually played very well today one of the best test batsmen from SC for sure.

Match is now moving to even keel. Odds marginally in favor of India vs. when the 5th wicket fell.

Its probably BCCI, Kohli has opened the conversation already on it.

Umesh is way too inconsistent with his spells (with odd good over or two clubbed with too many good for noting overs), Ishant appears a bit tired (IMHO, Kohli made a mistake of not bowling him in short bursts, instead gave him spells which were too long) that leaves us with Binny(he is good but not test match winning level good). So unless there is a magical spell from one of these 3 (looks very unlikely ATM), I can't see us winning this game.

The highest that SL has ever chased is 352 & that was back in the day when Mahela Sanga were at their peak.

So?

Same were said before Pakistan chased 370.

India won't lose this unless something crazy happens but 380 is a serious cushion for us.

We would be panicking if we had just 330.

One of the weirdest pitches ever.5th day is like 1st and 1st was like 3rd.

Tbf Kusal has played like a proper Test bat so far and not his bang slam mode.

Still he will be vulnerable against new ball.

Totally agree but with new ball his range of shots will increase is what I meant (more like when he plays LO games as a opener).

If they take out 40-50 runs with the old ball...then yeah we are in some serious trouble.

But new ball should be enough to get 1-2 wickets and make them defend defend.

Its about wickets and we are again paying the price for DRS.

ATM

1) Younus khan
2 & 3) Kohli & Mathews (debatable)
4 & 5) Azhar/Pujara (debatable)
6 & 7) Rahane/Shafiq (debatable)
8) Misbah

Even if they take 50 with OLd ball, one wicker will peg them back substantially

Just one wicket and SL will be on backfoot. They only have tail to bat after this.

Need to break this partnership asap (with new ball at most), or else SL will remain in hunt.

now is a good time to sledge, get in the batsman way during runs, and throw returns to the keeper that pass close to the batsmen

Yes. That's what I am counting on. I hope they don't run away with the game now.

But still its too tight. If they manage to survive a few overs,. streaky boundaries and stuff, the target can be chased.

The key is to DRY UP RUNS now.

If we can have them chasing 120 runs in 35 overs, it would be safer for us.\

But if they have like 100 runs to chase in 35 overs, our pacers could choke. You never know with Umesh.

India just need that one wicket and new ball almost always gets you one
