Forget the stats, its raining there and the conditions are overcast, ideal for fast bowling

Lol it's not like that. Not as simple. It's 5 day match aka Test, not ODI. You don't give away 3 days to the opposite and shoot yourself in the foot for batting at the last day on a turner minefield.

Mathews said the SAME thing that he would have batted FIRST.

Rain and overcast doesn't mean ball is going to swing always, it's Galle and a humid atmosphere. And none of our bowlers are new ball swing bowlers anyway.

Does not know where his off stump is hence why he comes out to anything pitched full even if its wide.

Fishing is a problem, but how many great batsman were also great fishermen. Generally batsmen fish early on because they are nervous and restless, thus like to get bat on ball and get the feel.

When you fall on your front foot, your eyes are not level and your head is ahead of the ball due to which you will edge or slice the ball.

You can't hit what you can't see.

okay can we stop the toss criticism here. Its just been 10 overs so we will have plenty of time to discuss it after the match.

Ohhh could have easily inside edged it.

I said two days ago that Shehzad will improve immediately if he loosens his grip. We saw the consequences of holding the bat like a shovel again today.

Younus looked a bit uneasy on that last delivery, premeditating a cut, almost chopped on.

Pakistani_Legend I remember this. :D

It's a good toss to win, Misbah did the right thing batting first. It's a Test match & specialist 1, 2 & 3 are picked to see out the morning session. If this match isn't hampered too much by rain, my money is PAK to win it (& I am recording it after 19/2). Batting second, I won't have put money on PAK chasing 170 last, that's 25 runs honor for Grant.

It's easy to criticize a decision, but both team stack the team for batting first & I am sure Methews would have batted first. At Galle, you should bat later only if you are trailing the series with the last match being played & there is a big chance of the match curtailed by 120-150 overs.

Sensible post finally. Yes, Mathews said the same that he would have batted first.

Some people just see clouds and rain and they say hey lets bat second :-/

Well, that's because their batsmen don't suck as much as ours.

:)))

I'm starting to have doubts if he will ever improve enough.

Scores runs, then scores a duck or single digit score in the next match.

Hard hands; Man they suck!

That's why he is not opening material, is too hyper and in a hurry to get bat on ball. A opener has to be composed and well balanced, should absolutely know where his off stump is which he definitely doesn't. He would be better down the order.

:four azhar you are driving them today. He really has a changed approach. No more the slow tuk tuk.

Shouldn't have played it, if he did play it, it should've been played late, neither happened.

Whether it's a cricket bat or a golf iron - hold it like you will a bird. Not loose enough that it flies and not hard enough that it suffocates. :ponting

Drinks are on. Man knives are out for shezad :P but i agree. This 100 one match and low scores next match are annoying. Hopefully he comes back strong on the second innings.

Leaving it was the best option, but if you are going to play it, do it properly.

It was very shameful they dropped a debutant who just scored 70+ against SA in his first match.

Yes, Shan Masood.

Yep, bad influence of Misbah has hurt Azhar Ali the most in the entire crop of young Pak batsmen.

Azhar was a similar batsman even when Misbah wasnt playing, his shot range is limited, struggles with Strike rotation but has good temperament

Azhar Ali is so good technically and has an English technique. No wonder because he played there in his youth.

A little short talent wise, unfortunately. He could be/have been at Ian Bell's level and a similar batsman as well.

Azhar Ali is back in form hopefully.

He has been one of our reliable batsmen and was just having a bad patch.

His approach is changed too after the last Test's heroics. Good run rate.

I made a thread some time ago that Manzoor would be very successful at 4 in all formats. He is a but similar to Hafeez.

If I am not wrong, Mathews trapped Younus in front in that ill fated Galle Test 09'.

Younis is as bad at the start of his innings as Ijaz Ahmed was.

Younis should be more comfortable against Herath. There is bounce but not much turn at the moment.

As long as he doesn't sweep around like a janitor too much, he would be fine. Sweeping here would result in top edges.
