Really weird not seeing Smith open for SA.

SA 22/0 after 7 overs.

CI has Faf at 3 and Amla slated at 4.

Very interested in how the new South Africa go

Both batsmen look settled here , Lanka need to strike here soon , or they would be staring at a big first innings total.

Alviro is a waste of an opener... SA must find a replacement soon.

They should have uniform guidelines for such reviews. Ball was barely touching leg stump yet given out. If Umpire had said not out then ball could be touching 49% of leg stump and would remain not out.

Please bat for 5 sessions and put 500+ runs. A perfect platform to do so and pitch is also looking good right now. I wish, timing of match would have been different. It's difficult to watch it here in USA. ODI series was a good win. Let's do it for tests as well.

Why is Faf batting above Amla? I suppose its because they want the captain and ABD to face most of the spin that'll come by the truck-full later in the innings.

Amla wants to bat lower due to captaincy.

Lakmal averaging 50 in 20 tests, well on his way to greatness, oops that's his bowling average.

Seth Africa in a good position imo. Batting won't be as easy from here on in by the look of it.

Doubt it, Amla and AB are two of the best players of spin going around, makes sense to have Faf at the top.

Citation needed.

Amla said that in interview earlier which I posted in this forum.

" As for batting line-up, it’s something we will discuss; there was a consideration of me moving down the order to four. Kind of giving me a bit more time ... you know, if I’m captaining and batting." ------- Amla

Yesterday we saw a stray dog, and a Kamodo Dragon. What can we see today on the field ?

South Africa have surrendered their initiative I'm afraid.
They'll do well to get to 350 with 400-420 being a competitive total. I can see Mahela and Sanga propelling Lanka to 620+.
That will lead to a deficit of around 200 with SA having to save the match on a deteriorating pitch. The boys have it all to do.

(Of course Dale could wave his magic with reverse swing and Tahir proving handy with his leggies, but I've seen nothing in this pitch conducive for anything but runs and scoreboard pressure)

SA have given away the advtange. At one stage with Elgar and Faf batting , they were looking at a score of around 500-550.

These two should take it to 400+ then SA will get a good score.

I think 450 will be a good score here , lanka will have to bat really well to make a match here. Will not be easy against disciplined african attack .

Philander should be classified as a genuine all rounder , he averages nearly 30 with the bat .
