Sri Lanka vs India | 3rd ODI | Colombo (RPS) | 24/08/2008

Was away for an hour and it seems Sassi's (read SL's) Bambore has been vandalized completely.
Arun Lal is having a multiple-orgasm as well.
I wait for Waqar to come on, then I put up the volume, because arun and tony are simply unbearable :))

One moment it looks like people like Ganguly still have a chance, the next it looks it's all over for them. ODI series win for India here, and selectors will find it much easier to drop the grandfathers (from even the Test team).

Thanks for links guys but it's not opening any of them as it's for members only or something! But the way it's going it's better off just following it on Cricinfo! :p

Sri Lanka are in deep, deep trouble at 68/6 needing a further 171 runs in 30 overs. Jaywaradene is still there, so there is some hope for Sri Lanka.

Jayawardene is not the kind of batsman that can do this kind of a job singlehandedly. He is a great Test player but an average ODI one.

This match is India's. Perhaps so too the series. Srilanka is finding it very hard to play India's fasties. The top order has been really pathetic.

India should go onto win this match. Run rate now is creeping up to 6 an over in the next 26 overs. It will take some batting to get them to that total.

Sri Lanka will simply have to go after India's fifth bowler to stand any chance. India's pacers will eat the these two and rest of the batsmen alive. Asking rate is not going to help them either which is above 6 now in the next 24 overs.

If i were the Sri Lankans i would be extremely worried. Jayasuriya is not going to be around for much longer, its only a matter of time when he gets the final boot. Their batters with the exception of SangaKarra and Jaywardene are extremely untalented and their batting looks really poor. They need to find some good players in domestic cricket. I dont know how long can they stick around inconsistent players like Dilshan, Silva e.t.c.

It just isn't getting any better for Sri Lanka. Kulasekara out to Yuvraj and Sri Lanka looking lost at 94/7 needing a further 143 runs in 22.4 overs with an asking rate of 6.30.

Rickz mate..the game is already in the bag.Perhaps the SL batsmen too realize this and thats why they may be looking to get to a respectable total.

Well Dhoni has made more of a positive impact on India than Kumble. He led from the front today and was instrumental in leading the assault on Mendis. Dare i say but if India ends up winning the ODI's, there is going to be a serious debate on whether Dhoni should get the test job too or not. Because at the moment it is Kumble who needs nurturing from Dhoni rather than the other way around.

^^Well i'm sure that the upcoming Aus series will the make-or-break series for our golden oldies.

Dhoni is letting things slide. Time to get in Parveen, Khan and Munaf, who have 10 overs between them left. 3 wkts only, we dont need to bowl out all 14 overs

I wanted India to win by 100+ runs

huh? rohit sharma comes in to bowl!! And 4444

dhoniiiii

Good ol Waqar, he says India will win this but they will have to think hard about strategy. He's right I hope about both!

Yeah they will win today but this is a recipe for disaster, generally.

hoorayyy
zaheer bowls tushara and then looks at him as if to say 'what the aith were you doing out here anyway?' :))

India has this one in the bag. This is basically the last pair. Murali will not survive more than 2 balls.

Jaya out.... what a classic innings. One of the best under pressure! :14: :14:

Yes, but it was too much to expect one man to do it all (nobody supported him). Well played though!

i thought tushara did a great supporting role
maybe Jaya needed to come up the order instead of sending in Kapu at 3

A sad day for cricket indeed. One more sad day like this and it will be a sad week for Ganguly, Dravid, and Laxman as well.

Well played Jayawardene! A great knock under pressure and he got Sri Lanka near in the end.

That is it, Patel bowls Murali and India win by 33 runs. They take the series 2-1 win 2 more games still to go.

Billy Doctrove is a wuss

What do you expect? He is from the same country as Bucknor. I think, BCCI should have him kicked out of the series - just like they had Bucknor removed in the middle of the series.

No Tendulkar, No Sehwag, No Ishant, but a win nonetheless, i'll take it. Zaheer has been bowling BRILLIANTLY. If India win this series he should be MOS.

Pretty amazing with the "kids" .... as one of our friend called the current batting line.

I love it love it LOVE IT

Dhoni, you're the best man, THE BEST. Terrific batting and terrific catch to get rid of Jaya.

And we own Mendis now, or will soon enough. The magician has been sorted. Without him Lanka are back to doing what they do best, lose to India! :D :)

He took 3/56 :)))

Solid win for IND...looking good to win the series now[/QUOTE
Srilanka will have to play out of their skin to win this one but quite bamboozled as i expected a complete white wash 5-0 after the last encounter in the asia cup.I mean we are all aware of how difficult it is for any team to beat Lanka at home.
India on the other hand has to step up the momentum and the middle order has to fire along with our fielding woes sigh

Well done to India - I reckon they shud win the series from now as SL's batting is looking too brittle atm. They need to bring in Warnapura for Silva for the final two games and open him with Sanath as they are taking a major risk by putting 3 out of the 4 big-match players up the order.

How can they take the series with 2 games remaining?

Dhoni is really starting to come on, lion hearted lad of India probably the best one since the days of Kapil...

Well played India. Indian bowling was too hot to handle by Lankan batsmen who are really struggling. Dhoni was his traditional reliable self, but it was the fast bowlers who won them the match.

Munaf looks more and more like Mcgrath its scarey, if only he can add a bit more pace and stay injury free then WATCH OUT....

He gave away almost 6 an over. Badri got out playing a bad shot, not from a good delivery. Dhoni played him with ease and got out in the 49th. He was slogging and any bowler could have taken his wkt then.

That laugh is one of deperation, RA. Tch, carry on. :D

I agree with most of these points. But in all fairness, you should acknowledge that he almost clean bowled Dhoni with a carrom a couple of overs before he finally got out. Dhoni was beaten all ends up and nobody knows just how that ball missed the stump.

Yeah you are correct..but you surely couldn't have missed the fact that before that point, they played the carom ball very well, both Raina and Dhoni..his figures read 9 overs for 55 with one wicket which which was an unforced error from the batsman?

Yes, yesterday they seemed to pick him much better than in earlier matches. But is it a trend or a one-off match, it is too early to say.

did you see Yuvraj's first delivery to Jaya? it spun more than what Mendis had done all day (the comms said it) and no one knows how it missed the edge . Freak ball with no result. And if Dhoni had got out Raina wouldn't have gone for suicidal singles, we would still have reached the same score I reckon.

If anything, y'll should be talking about Zaheer owning Lanka. :)

well, Dhoni has asked the batsmen to go after Mendi. Clearly he feels that being defensive against him is the worst strategy.

If "y'll" refers to me, I have already talked about that above.

But come on now, don't compare Yuvi to Mendis now. :D Yuvi's may have been a freak delivery, Mendis's was his trademark carrom ball that beat Dhoni all ends up, yes all ends up.

Yes, that was obvious. And it was a smart move too (although it was his last option). However, I am not sure if the same tactic will work every time (I am not sure if it won't either).

Will be interesting to see!

Also tbf India always seem to lack that killer instinct in cleaning up the tail..this is where someone like Ishant or even Sree or R.P are being missed. Can't have tail endes building up such partnerships with one top batsman in future.

no arguments there. I only compared him to Yuvi because I was pointing out that one good (or carrom) ball is not enough to trouble a good batting side. Mendi will have to do more than that in next match.

lets hope he doesnt :D

lol. this thread is from the last odi. some of the mods are too lazy to move it to the commentary forum.

Guys its not like the only carom ball he bowled in the match or something..i saw atleast 4 carom balls in slow-motion repalys.I could have quite a few myself.
