Statin drugs

Does anyone here take the statin drugs to control their high blood cholesterol levels? Has it changed you in any way?

I was prescribed by the doctor to take statin 20 Mg tablets a few months ago. The doctors then changed it to 5 Mg as the 20 Mg for making me feel tired. I am now towards the end of my statin stock and only have one dose left. Basically I need to get the doctors to give me a repeat prescription but by the time I get the medicine it would be a couple of days. I still have the old 20 Mg tablets stock and i was wondering is it safe to take the 20 Mg till I get the 5 Mg, or should I not take it.

If there are any doctors / nurses here who can give advise that would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell which statin are you taking? Atorvastatin? Rosuvastatin?Simvastatin? Or any other one.

Also is it a single statin or are you taking a combination?


Don't take 20mg tablets.Ideally you should not miss any doses.But You can wait couple of days rather than taking 20mg doses.

Statins can cause a lot of adverse effects including muscle and liver damage. Muscle damage can manifest as tiredness or muscle pain.

I would advise you take the 5 mg tablets as prescribed by your doctor.

Thanks chaps. Agree this forum is really not for medical advice, its just that it is weekend and I dont have any access to the GP. It is not an emergency situation that I should call A&E. i only have two options, either take the 20 Mg, or not take the 20 Mg.

If you cant take Atorva 5mg for couple of days, most likely it wint be an emergency situation.

But please dont make a habit of this.
