By countries here I mean India and Pakistan and not your adoptive homes like Britain/US/Canada.
I will start
Pakistan has some really nice food
Music
Women
Maintaining desi culture despite the rampant wahabization
TV shows

Sanskrit
Different types of Dravidian civilization and its culture/arts

I like how music and arts isn't frowned upon in Indian culture, it's like a part of your culture.

Glitzy production standards of Bollywood
Education ethos
The tiger
It's big so there would probably be some parts I'd like
People are humble compared to Pakistanis

I like respect for books, teachers and education in India.

women - Pakistan really have most beautiful women in the world.
Punjab - punjabi culture, it includes all food , music , comedy shows etc.

1)Pakistani dramas have some realistic stories. Used to watch them long before the zindagi channel aired it here.

2)Shoaib mansoor's movies- KKL, BOL

3) Pakistani singers, coke studio.

4) Wasim akram, Waqar Younus, Shoaib akhtar, Imran Khan

Mary Kom , SRK , Kajol and Ashwariya Rai

Didn't really want to mention Bollywood heroes since a lot of them look like Pakistanis anyway but to be fair, none of the ones you mentioned there. Kajol has classical Indian features and very beautiful too.

Indian Institute of Technology(s)

I've worked with a few grads from IITs and by God those guys are SMART.

Respect and dedication for religion in Pakistan. I notice that all my Pakistani friends(most) pray regularly, go to mosques, and overall are passionate for Islam. The youth is involved. However, it's totally opposite among Indians which I hate. In my temple, I am probably the only young volunteer in the temple or visit temple regularly. Most of the people in temple are old uncle aunties. All my young Indian friends rarely go to temples. Youth in India is becoming more atheist and nationalistic.

Women. Pakistani women are really beautiful. They genuinely are good with makeup

Pakistanis passion for cricket. I like how most Pakistanis follow their cricket irrespective of age. In india, once you become an uncle, cricket goes out of their life. Also, Pakistanis genuinely love to play cricket unlike Indians IMO would prefer watching cricket. On average, 2 guys out of 10 indian guy would PLAY cricket. In comparison, 4 out of 10 Pakistani guys would play cricket.

Indian work ethic, indians are definitely more hard working business centric people, pakistanis are too laid back at times.

  • Women Women Women . .Very pretty, not just the white skin though especially the Punjabi/Pashtun ones . (might sound creepy, but Punjabi girls are a fantasy of a lot of South Indians)
  • The cricketers : Wasim, Shoaib and Imran, in that order.

My father's apartment in Kuwait had a Pakistani family as neighbours, who would send along packs of pens and pencils whenever my father came home for leave. They had known me when I lived there for some 6 months as a 5 year old. I used to take those pens to school too, only to realize that the bottom of the pens had "Made In Pakistan" engraved there. !

Imagine taking that to school in 1999 in the aftermath of Kargil:))). Luckily I was in the far south. I was reported to a teachers by a few innocent souls, which was rightly rubbished by them. But I cannot imagine a kid doing that in today's India and not get thrashed .

It seems Pakistani women are very popular with our parosis... :ibutt

I had a mug of Murree beer one time and it was pretty good. Better than Kingfisher, and at a grade similar to Foster's.

Pity the Pakistanis are missing out on it even though they produce it.

I loved her back in the 90's when she actually looked like an Indian. This decade even she has jumped on the "Whitening" bandwagon, and has made a mess of her complexion. She and Shilpa shetty were two of the most prettiest Dusky women in Bollywood.

Sufi music, daring attitude of many Pakistanis allows them to punch above their weight,I don't know much about Pakistani food but whatever I see on youtube seems delicious esp the BBQ types.

Variety of food - whenever I have been to India, have been keen to sample local cuisine distinct to that region, especially vegetarian options. There is also a balance to things...for example, in Pakistan Nihari and Haleem are afforded legendary status...in Delhi I found that people treat them as just another dish. Also like the innovation I saw - attempt to start desi fine dining, and applying modern techniques to desi cooking.

Secondly pride in regional language and culture. Although, I guess now its something which is dwindling, and from what I read, under the microscope now that the BJP is trying to impose Hindi across the state. I have distant relatives in Gujarat who are fluent in Gujarati, and I saw met some Punjabi's who had no qualms in talking in Punjabi. Not so much the case with my relatives in Pakistan.

Their hospitality, although never been a direct recipient.
Edhi Foundation.
Their spirit.

Their men, especially pashtuns.

Hate their mangoes.

Most Indians do not like the features of their own women. They completely forget that their women are nothing but a female reflection of themselves.

Looking at Bollywood, most actors look nothing like the normal population that watches them. It's full of upper caste South Indian (heroines) and upper caste male Punjabi (heroes) and Pathans.

Basically the less Indian look, the more you are considered to be attractive.

Shilpa shetty had a below average face prior to plastic surgery. However she has a fantastic physique which she managed to ruin in the past 2yrs by going size zero.

What I like about India is that it's a big country with very nice beaches with coconut palms and other places worthy of visit.

Sorry but in the same breath I have to say that what I don't like about India is the overpopulation and pollution.

Seriously when I look at that big chunk of landmass called "india" the first think that comes to my mind is a road trip from north to south but then I am forced to think about the traffic and overpopulation and my dream bubble brusts.

I also find the devanagri script interesting and it's on my list of things I want to learn.

I also like the historical aspect of India. As in it is an ancient nation like the Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans.

"good with make up"?

I am not all too sure about that. Your reference point must be pretty small.

Leaving that aside I hate make up on a girl the most. Having make up on no matter how professionally done is the single most unattractive act a girl could do. Youtube make up tutorials are making the matter worst.

Indian wildlife and preservation
Indian specialist doctors.
Indian tabla and music(whilst it's also Pakistani in origin the art truly lives on in India)
Certain Indian architecture

troodon Good observation. We see movies as "aspirational" . So Indians dont want the women there to look like their wives/sisters . That explains the huge colour bias in both Northern and Southern cinema.

Even if we do cast Duskier actresses , they are extremely attractive women (Rekha, Kajol, Deepika, Priyanka, Bipasha, Chitrangada) , who don't really represent the regular Indian women and even they are whitened up over time.

Some Indian dishes,some songs.

I am envious of Indias flora and fauna, some of which is also in Pakistan. But Pakistan doesn't have wild lions or tigers(:nawaz) that are my favourite animals.

The fact that their army is subordinate to their government and the fact that their people support this status quo.

not just Indians , I have seen many people from diverse Background praising Pak women in real life.

I guess they haven't had close enough interaction then :afridi

The fact that their army is subordinate to their government and the fact that their people support this status quo.

Yeah, this will be a major factor after NS is taken down. That is one of the reasons their democracy is functioning well even though the leaders might not be in their best interests for the long run. If guys like Shashi Tharoor had been leading India, they would be right up there as a secular country and who knows a lot of Pakistani professionals would probably choose India over Pakistan but that's just a pipe dream now.

The two currently seem embroiled in a contest to see which is the crappier country. Unfortunately, Pakistan seems to be winning by a whisker.

Seems like it. The sane voices from both countries are silenced as traitors.

I appreciate India's emphasis on arts and culture (not Bollywood). Plus they seem to have a critical mass of people who believe and work for environmental conservation and other such progressive issues.

Agreed. I'd add environmental conservation to my list too. From my experience of some Pakistanis, these same issues would be viewed as feminineness and ridiculed.

Since folks are playing nice on this thread, thought I'd share my humble two cents worth.

What to like about India:
1) Education. Indians are truly some of the most hardworking people in the world and are exceptionally intelligent.
2) Mughal builds- nontheless they are situated in India, so it's theirs. I have to say the Mughal architecture is sublime and kudos to India for preserving it. Unlike Pakistan!
3) Their passion for sports; they may not be the best per se, but they sure are dedicated to turn the tide.
4) The Saree or sari. However you spell it. It looks glamorous and appealing when the right females wear it. Looks stunning!
5) Promotion. I like how Indians are always promoting India across the globe and even in their sleep. They are relentless and props to them.
6) Gym culture. Prevalent across India- sadly not in Pakistan. There seems to be more awareness in India of how to dress and also how to communicate effectively with the rest of the world (assuming Bollywood has played a major role in this).

I'll keep the dislikes aside for the sake of the thread. Have a good day!

I was reading up on Tiger conservation work done in India over the last year including designation of National Parks to preserve habitat and was impressed at the effort put forth for a country struggling with great poverty (not meant as an offense).

Forgot to mention in my previous post:

7) Deep respect and admiration for Islam.. Something I generally find amongst Indians.. Unlike expat Indians.
8) Indian women are also some of the most beautiful women one can come across, hey you get intelligence in the package too.

I think that pretty much covers everything. Ciao!

Couple of things. Mostly Bollywood which competes with other film industries around the world. Their democracy where the leaders even if corrupt also at the same time try to do what is best for the people. This can be seen not only in government but also in private sectors and also sports bodies. Their work ethic and willingness to succeed anywhere. I work for a Fortune 500 company in the Us and over 60% in the technology department whether it's in the managerial post or development to even operations is an Indian. When I asked once to a white guy, why does the company hire too many Indians. The response was a simple "they get the work done"

Tiger is our National animal . And all our idiotic maharajas/nawabs and the British hunted and poached all our tigers, lions, rhinos etc to the verge of extinction.

It's a losing war. I don't even feel, my children's generation would ever get to see Indian lions/tigers in their natural habitat anymore !

Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon, Anushka Sharma, Aishwariya Rai, Alina D'Cruz, Nargis Fakhri, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone

The fact that the people have held onto their values for the most part and won't welcome whiny liberal Pakistanis without vetting them thoroughly.

Well balanced list ! . Enough south indians there . :D

No love for Disha Patani ? She's IMO looks very Pakistani .

Pakistanis haven't held onto their values ?

I wasn't comparing with Pakistanis, just commenting on Indian society in general. I should also add to my comment regarding liberals, I am myself a liberal, when I say that I admire that India won't welcome them I don't mean genuine liberals who love life, I mean the whiny, militant 'liberals' who infest every thread with their misery.

Just googled her - Definitely makes the list!

From Pakistan I only like Sajal Ali - rest are meh!

Am I the only one who likes Kangana Ranaut... She has such a nice way of speaking.

Sajal Ali is isn't good looking at all. Your average British Pakistani girl is better looking than females in lollywood. There is a lack of awareness in Pakistan in terms of physique, makeup, surgery and dress-sense... In Bollywood every little thing is checked, monitored and perfected. At least in those facets.

Indian Institute of Technology(s)

I've worked with a few grads from IITs and by God those guys are SMART.

If your intake is top 1-2% of engineering students in hugely populated country then they will be over all above average and smart. I know 8-10 persons who graduated from IITs and I know about it pretty well.

Why will you admire IITs? Smartness of students has nothing to do with IITs. You can admire IITs for different reasons for sure.

Very true, IIts simple tag the brightest minds . The IIMs actually do a lot better at developing the talent .

CricketCartoons Overrated IITians being praised by Pakistanis once again.

Didn't want to act as the spoilsport for hurting some indians who like to drum beat these glorified slave ships meant for producing head bobbling apus for western masters. These are hollow institutes which have contributed nothing to the nation, except a class of people who live off a tag and consider themselves superior just because they solved an extra question during an exam and think that it is the be all and end all of their life. I would be ashamed to call myself from iit if I had the misfortune of studying there.

Don't care. Even though nusrat is my favourite, Indian music blows away pakistani music in general.

Actually music is the one thing where we have a clear leg up on India. Aek taraf Tajdar-e-haram, Afreen Afreen etc... Dosri taraf munni badnaam hoi, fevicol se chipka deh etc

I mean come on dude. Indian classical music was amazing with Rafi, Lata etc but now their music is just cringeworthy. Obviously you get a few hits in a year that make you sit up and take notice, but those are like needle in a haystack.

At the risk of derailing the thread, which is not about comparisons or who is better, had to laugh at afreen afreen being used as an example. The song is a tharki anthem..with the word jism repeated n times. Maybe a hit with andropausal uncles high on halwa, but sad indictment of the junooni youth if they consider it among their best songs.

Yeah and Munni Badnam hoi celebrates women's contribution to society.

It's like comparing Bollywood to Lollywood. I said in my first post on this thread that I admire glitzy Bollywood production. The core material might not be that great but they know how to dress it up and give it some polish.

Same with their TV presentation, just look at cricket coverage. Indian home series are covered in HD widescreen whereas Pakistan cricket is still broadcast in 4:3 low def resolution.

Friendly
Genuine cricket fans and are very appreciative of all the cricketing peromance(totally opposite to my countrymen)

Er, what Lata and Rafi practised is not what is known as Indian classical music. It's popular music, not classical. For true Indian classical music, google for Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jasraj, Kishori Amonkar, Allahrakha, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Bal Murali Krishna, M. Subbalakshmi, et. al.

Hindustani and Carnatic music. Greatest music tradition in the history of mankind.

Tharki anthem lol... have to agree song is a bit overrated especially the coke studio version.
