What's new

Sunrisers Leeds and Birmingham Phoenix secured Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq respectively, in the latest Hundred auction [Update@Post#34]

Lol I have a dislike for Rich liberals irrespective of the city, nothing against Abrar he deserves it, but she is trolling.

She is a very confident woman, and will be trolling many Indians which as i said above should be amusing.
Yet it's always rich conservatives who always make the world a worst place by their backing of fascist bigoted war mongerers

It seems like that is the consensus amongst Indians on PP at least.

One thing I have wondered it why these Indian owners have paid big money for these teams and rebranded them to be Indian focussed with pictures of elephants etc. There isn't enough market in England to recoup these costs. They are obviously aiming at Indian market. Do you think it is a misjudgment on their part, or they will be able to grow the 100 without Indians?
We may need to study the whole market synergies but Indian businessmen are adept at monetizing the ad revenues in general. Leave the sponsorships, IPL ad revenues are crazy like a 15-sec advertisement used to cost 4-5K USD back in 2017 when I was part of media buying. For reference, the next best thing was 60% less. UK has a very good consumer market AFAIK and there needs to be some conscious efforts to monetize the ad revenue in a better way through Brand-building.

But I also feel they may have overestimated the revenue-synergies here in different leagues. But cost-synergies are bound to come down.

Ambani, Goenka and Maran families are conglomerates and they can easily handle the upfront capital costs. Even without the Indian market, I am pretty much bullish on the cricket leagues if they can repeat what they did in IPL.

Focus to build grass-root level talent which pulps the interest of audience. This is what ECB and SA boards were looking at and it falls in line the owners vision in valuations.

GUYS, PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC ABOUT PAKISTAN PLAYERS IN THE HUNDRED LEAGUE

NO NEED TO DO INDIAN POLITCS AND BJP STUFF HERE NOW

Sunrisers head coach Daniel Vettori opened up about the move to buy the Pakistan cricketer:

"He's unique in the amount of variations and a lot of, particularly domestic players, won't have seen him before."

"We came into the auction with every player available to us. As soon as this option was available, there were a number of very good spinners from international teams that were an option, but Abrar was a priority."

Expected move considering who is the owner of Sun Group and the party it represents. However, SRH franchise will take a hit due to such antics. Already their X handle is suspended

I thought Pakistanis according to your kind were not being picked on merit?

Ab aag kyun lag rahi hai??
Token pick to show diversity in UK. Forget about politics, on pure cricket Abrar don't get into the team. He is joke of a bowler. Had they picked Usman Tariq, atleast that would have made cricketing sense.

Another very interesting angle to this too…

If Sunrisers were going to go for a mystery spinner, they could have also hinted to Ghazanfar from Afghanistan that they will be going in for him. He can do the role Abrar does (maybe not as effective), but he is a very decent bowling option. Ghazanfar pulled out of the draft the night before just like Afridi, DeQock, Narine.

This is a very interesting case study. Abrar was their prime target in this draft. They went all in for him!
Yeah eve before auctioneer finish talking his name, she pulled up the pedal and them keep bidding.......

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla speaking:

"It is not in our domain (IPL), they have done it for some foreign league. They will have to take a call; we cannot do anything."

Good on BCCI..let the owners and fans take their own decision outside India.

This stint is going to make Abrar and Tariq better bowlers, it benefits us massively

They wont be facing quality like this in our domestic set up so better they play these leagues and learn, bring that learned knowledge to Pakistan and teach Shodas like Shabab Khan how to bowl
Not really
a lot of players are going to end up learning how to play them. Their mystery element could fade away.

Sunrisers' first choice was Adil Rashid but Southern Brave outbid them for him. So then they decided to go into the overseas market and Dan Vettori, who is the Australia assistant coach had spoken to some of the Australian players and they had said that Abrar was one bowler that they had difficulty facing when they played Pakistan recently.

Why would people want to boycott SRH?
SRH is already a Mid to bottom-tier team when it comes to fan following, commercials, and brand value.

First issue is that SRH has failed to capture local talent over the years. Only Nitish Reddy is there currently, and they even failed to pick Tilak Varma. The ownership also doesn’t connect well and appeal native in the Telugu states, unlike CSK or RCB with their regions.

The only player who had massive following across the Telugu states was David Warner. He genuinely played for SRH and even won them the cup. After Warner, they tried Williamson and made many changes. The biggest mistake was releasing Rashid Khan; after leaving SRH, he won the trophy with GT the very next year.

SRH completely revamped the team after Warner, but they lost their bowling strength and became a top-heavy batting side, similar to how RCB used to.

Even SRH is not unanimously supported by locals in both Telugu states. If you ask people there, 7 out of 10 will say they support the big-3 (RCB, CSK, and MI). Victory celebrations across AP and Telangana for RCB’s title win were bigger than anything SRH could dream of.

Please don’t boycott them. Not even 1% of IPL viewers watch this so-called The Hundred league.🤡🤡

Kaavya will troll many North Indian folks as expected.. should be fun few days, Keyboard warriors of North India vs South India fighting online to keep Abrar in UK team lol..
Why only North Indians? I am a South Indian from TN. I don’t mind picking Tarique, but I am definitely not okay with picking Abrar. Anyone who disrespects our army shouldn’t be picked. However, since this league is not the IPL, they are getting carried away.

As I said earlier, people don’t need to overreact with boycott statements. SRH itself is not a very big team, and hardly anyone watches The Hundred.

@Rana you were right. It was vittori

And yet there is a history lesson, racism attack going on by the indians.

They sometimes forget how the real world outside of india works
On top of it, I find Shukla’s statement quite contradictory to what these people claim.

Apparently there is no lettered law in IPL that Pakistani’s cannot be picked. It’s just an unspoken rule…

But Shukla (BCCI chief) said “this is not our domain as it’s not in India, so we can’t do anything about it”.

According to the law in India, you can’t do anything about it if it happens in India too. Or does it mean they will openly break the law if something like this happens in IPL?

I was in India back in 2011-2012, went to the pakistani high commission one day, think it was a 23 march dinner or something like that. The same guy, Rajiv Shukla was there.
Funny how he is giving statements here right against our players being allowed to play in IPL?

Meanwhile, this guy was having dinner, enjoying his time, and he even was requesting the high commissioner to process his visa for a visit to lahore.

And this 2012, 4 years after mumbai attacks.

These guys stand for nothing.

Rajiv Shukla has a reputation of being the everywhere man a.k.a a shapeshifter. I wouldn't be surprised if he secretly belongs to the lizard people, studying the people and various dynamics in India.

I feel bad for fatima sana though. She is the one of the best womens cricketer in t20 and still got ignored

As per reports:

Abrar Ahmed may not feature in The Hundred despite being signed by SunRisers Leeds for £190,000 because the tournament clashes with Pakistan’s upcoming tour of the West Indies. T

he PCB is unlikely to grant him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) as Pakistan are scheduled to play a two-Test series from July 15 to August 7, overlapping with The Hundred’s window of July 21 to August 16.

While his agent is hopeful and Abrar has a good relationship with the PCB chairman, reports suggest his chances of playing remain “50-50,” with international duty likely to take precedence.

It’s ok, we release him from WI tour, being with Kavya bhabi for The Hundred is far more important. 👍

Usman Tariq is a good pick for the Hundred. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets county gigs after this. :inti

Honestly I call that smart in today’s world, supporters of either parties are dimwits anyway, why not make the best out of the situation.

How pathetic is Gavaskar? Anyone read about his column? Claiming the signing contributes to Indian casualities.

I have always found him pathetic.

A faithful servant of the Indian establishment nowadays. I sometimes disagreed with Bishan Bedi but always admired how he spoke his mind. Gavaskar clearly not cut from same cloth. Why doesn't he criticise BCCI for continuing to fill PCB's coffers through blatantly rigged ICC and Asia Cup draws ?

Lost all respect for him as a person. What he achieved as a player was extraordinary, and nobody should underplay the player he was. But its sad to see what he has become as a person. Especially since he played so much cricket with Pakistan and was friends with Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.

Gavaskar's take is too stupid to justify but if we apply his own logic, wouldn't the Pakistan-India match also be contributing to the indirect deaths of Indian civilians and soldiers? a match he very happily commentated on. I don't recall him having any moral qualms about that - and that money is directly benefitting the brother-in-law of the Army chief. But for some reason he has an issue with one Pakistani player getting paid by an Indian business owner for playing cricket in an English franchise league. I guess morality only matters when you, yourself aren't benefitting.

If there was any doubt about how senile he is at this point in his life, there shouldn't be anymore.

Exactly , a point few posters like cJoshi miss completely in TP thread on this very topic .

If you are talking about Bedi's opinion on bowling actions, he turned out to be right later on, post 2014. Unless you are talking about others aspects apart from Bedi's rant on bowling actions

The only way I would had agreed with Gavaskar or would had said that Gavaskar was right, if India was also not involved in proxy wars.

Proxy wars are one of the worst things to have happened in 21st century. Its the same thin as using land mines, because once the war stops, no one eradicates those land mines or the ideology that has been spread, and thus more damage takes place in the long run.

Its no secret Pakistan is involved in a proxy war. During the Operation Sindoor, one thing that did bother me was how alot of Pakistanis have selectively ignored why did India attacked the madrassa in Bahawalpur, or why madrassas in the past have been attacked in the northern side of Pakistan. Because these madrassahs provide refuge to terrorists or mujahideens. People who know about the madrassah attack admit that mujahideens were killed and they desensitize terrorism by using the word mujahideen.

But India has carried out similar attacks through proxies. The Balochistan attacks that we see, the train attack, are all Indian funded, where they have provided weapons, ammuniation and even healthcare to Balochistan terrorists. Infact, India has even carried out attacks in Canada aswell.

So its not like India is innocent, its foreign policy interms of proxy war is as flawed as Pakistans and Afghanistans.

Pakistan's attack on the Terrorist Ammo Depo and the so called rehab center was same as India's attack on Bahalwapur madrassah.

The depo had weapons and ammo that was being provided to TTP, and i wouldn't be surprised those rehab people could had been terrorists aswell.

And thats the thing. Forget this dramaybazi that our people are being killed by that money.

If you want to sit on the high horse, first get the narrative straight. Is the soldiers you want to cry about or the civilian victims? Than decide whether you want to stand against proxy wars, or just want to cry about Pakistan's proxy war and not be willing to admit your own country's proxy war.

Gaveskar is a complete idiot.

Just because Indian teams in the craphole that is India don't pick Pakistani players, it doesn't mean that English teams have to follow suit.

Gavaskar can keep crying.

Yet it was Modi who was found guilty of religious terrorism and subsequently banned from entering the USA and UK.

Someone needs to remind the cult, they're in their Motherland, speaking English, following the law of the British land, in search of their masters.

😎

Well Gavaskar could have used his stature and legacy for something positive.

Instead he’s bootlicking the BJP and Sanghi crowds.

AS PER REPORTS:

Abrar’s signing by Sunrisers Leeds has stirred controversy after former India captain Sunil Gavaskar criticized the move, suggesting it indirectly supports Pakistan’s military. The spinner, currently ranked third in ICC T20I rankings and previously as high as second, was picked for £190,000 in last week’s draft. The franchise belongs to the Sunrisers group, which also owns Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Despite the uproar, both Abrar and the Pakistan Cricket Board have remained silent. Sources close to the player say he is unfazed, viewing the matter as one between the England and Wales Cricket Board and the franchise. Abrar had registered for The Hundred to broaden his presence in global leagues, and his selection reflects his standing among the world’s top T20 bowlers.

Coach Daniel Vettori personally informed Abrar of the signing, encouraging him to stay prepared and perform at his best. For Abrar, the focus remains firmly on building his career across international leagues rather than engaging with the political debate surrounding the deal.

Before the Hundred tournament Abrar is either withdrawal from the tournament or Traded with another franchise by using some excuses.......

Abhi to sirf Sunny G ek comment section itna Hungama ho gya. ..

:klopp :kp

Trades aren't allowed. Pretty clear they're locked in now unless Abrar gets a test squad call up.

Yet it was Modi who was found guilty of religious terrorism and subsequently banned from entering the USA and UK.

The two countries you mention have slaughtered millions of your brothers, in fact are even slaughtering them as we speak.

Don't hold them to any high standard just because they have thrown a couple of pounds your way.

My fellow Indians should understand that an international business can’t afford to discriminate based on nationality, not just on ethical grounds but also for practical business reasons many times. I know many Indian companies hiring Pakistan-based IT resources and paying them through their overseas subsidiaries. Sunrisers hiring Abrar is no different. I get that he once posted a meme, but in a professional business environment that really can’t be held against him.

Indians haha I can laugh at few here. There is a reason india can never surpass china and western nations.

Honestly, I feel flattered when Pakistanis say this while trying to talk down India. We were the same country less than 80 years ago, yet they expect India to already be at par with the developed world but they don't because of xyz. That expectation itself is flattering especially since they don’t seem to hold their own country to the same standard.

Never is a bad choice of word especially in this context. They certainly can, maybe it will take 100 years, maybe 200 years, but one day they very well can. They are too prudent.

South Indian are good ones

South Indians from kerala are much nicer, down to earth and humble and soft spoken. I know many of them from my work place. Not sure about others from the region. North indians and indian bongalis seem too obnoxious hyper nationalistic and wanna be big man online.

Not sure about the financial repercussions for SRH regarding Abrar, but SRH has given rival franchise fan clubs an easy tool to rile up SRH team and its supporters. Already on social media they are calling them names. It would be interesting to see how long and how far things will go. It would be really interesting to see what happens when SRH plays on home grounds of MI , RCB and CSK.

I am outside pakistan and I know exactly what are you saying . We have accepted the fact that we are not going to improve so in that context We both are right but being realistic we also never said ( common people)that we are going to ti be next China 😆😆.

Trust me barring few chest thumpers no one in India have any illusion of next China. When you have some time to kill visit Indian tweeter and see the bleating first hand. That's why India-Pakistan fits in to same equation.

I hope they do but realistically doesn’t look like they will and I am not saying they are bad people but there are many things that will hold us back.
By the way Indiana are the nicest people I have met outside Pakistan but of course people that I have friendship with do not represent common indians.

Not in media yet, any coordinated backlash will take place time, likely see withdraw of ads by certain companies in short term
Why did Modi go to eat biryani in Pakistan? And what happened shortly after?

Nothing will happen here too, like the million times Modi and his BJP went back and forth on any semblance of principles.

Ads boycott it seems :dhoni

They are Indeed well mannered and have less hatred

Sunil Gavaskar speaking to a media outlet:

“Yes, I have been on commentary panels of ICC and ACC. The revenue went to all the participating countries from the ICC and ACC, but not from an Indian entity, as far as I know. I don’t understand how you can say that I am a contributor since I am not making any payment to any commentator, Indian or any other nationality."

“I don’t follow the CPL, ILT20, or SA20, so I am not aware who is playing for whom," he said. “If there are Indian owners paying Pakistani players, then hopefully they will stop doing that," Gavaskar said. “I don’t know about other sports and what they are doing," he added. “All I am praying for is that Indians stop paying Pakistanis. If you have noticed, the reverse has never happened for decades, if ever."
