Do you think Karachi Kings got it wrong with their choice of openers for the super over against Lahore Qalandars?

I think Shahid Afrid would have been a better choice against Sunil Narine?

Absolutely!

As I said in the other thread, he is tremendous against spin and has belted Narine previously is well, so he was the perfect candidate to nullify him and win it for KK.

After watching that connection, I'm so glad he didn't open as I was rooting for Lahore. In hindsight he could have won it looking at what he did, but before hand you couldn't send him to open as there was a high risk that he was going to give his wicket early.

If they knew it would be Narine then Afridi was a must, he would have 2-3 sixes with ease. Non-Asian players have been traditionally poor against spin.

what shocked me most was simmons denying the single that cost them the match.
afridi looked really angry after hitting that six as it was of no use

Should have been sent to open against the spinner.Even if he got out it wouldn’t have hurt KK’s chances much.

Afridi was hiding as of late and since he was the acting captain made a big blunder of sending in Lendl. However I don't know who he could have sent instead. Shows the lack of power hitters in the KK side.

This surely is a blunder, Afridi in a super over is a must given his potential impact over 6 balls.

LOL. Like always he would have chocked. Dont get fooled by that last 6 when the game was over!

He is either 0 from 1 or 6 from 2.

He's hit or miss but point was that it would have been against the spinner from ball one.

Landl was probably sent because of Narine. The denied single cost them the match

I’m not sure. It looked like Narine was only trying to not bowl a no-ball. I don’t think he would have floated one outside Afridi’s off stump otherwise. We saw how he bowled to Simmons.

Nope. Narine bowled superbly throughput the game. I think the 4th dot ball is Simmons mistake.

He should have given last 2 balls to lala after he realized playing Narine that he not able to hit.

A run out there would have ended the match.

Afridi against spin is a no-brainer, you send him in as an opener so if he gets a few out the middle, game over, else he'll be out immediately without wasting a ball and someone else can come in and keep things alive. Not sure what the logic was.

Afridi got a freebie from narine as he just wanted to avoid bowling a no ball. Narine was brilliant and even afridi wouldnt change that. Afridi had no pressure as game was already lost

Afridi is good against spin, however, KK did not know who is gonna bowl. I think denial of single cost the game not that afridi should have opened.

All the bowlers were practicing. I am not sure they knew who they were going to use as a bowler. Besides Simmons is no slouch against spin. And also you cannot conclude Afridi would have made similar connection. For all we know Narine didn't care about that delivery as they had already won. If Afridi had come in he would definitely bowled the knuckle ball or seam up delivery.

1 bowler and 3 batsmen have to be nominated before hand, Arthur didnt know who the bowler would be.

I don't think there's is (still) another player who can hit a six as easily as Afridi can. He should have absolutely opened. He really just needs 3-4 balls and you win the game

Afridi has been very bad off late as a batsman, hindsight is a beautiful thing, but I can we why he wasn't chosen. Ingram has been in great form off late

Yes they should have sent him. He's very good at hitting boundaries versus spin.

Yep, was just going to post this. He's very good against spin more often then not, if they put a seamer on I'd have gone with someone else

Even a 6 and out would be advantage Karachi, brain fade from Arthur. Afridi has thrashed Narine in the past IIRC

do they know who's the bowler before choosing players? if yes then Afridi is better choice against spinners not against pacers. And Simmons not good against spinners

The decision looks even worse when they decided to send Ingram who has been rubbish for the most part of the season.

Bizzare really not sure what was going through their heads, can't see Mickey and co making the same mistake again

In fact I think both openers were the wrong choice - should have gone with Afridi and Denly.

Bad form or not, you can still expect Afridi to belt a few sixes against the spinners.

Also, ingram has been very poor through and struggles against spin is well, so a bad choice altogether.
