I came across an interesting fact in an article. Quoting the article

"Southee has now bowled in five Super Overs for New Zealand, losing his last four and conceding 13, 19, 17 and 20 runs in those losses."

You would think NZ think tank would have realized he is not your best bet. But they keep going back to him. I know any bowler can be lined up against in super over on a flat wicket. You can convert yorker into full toss. You can play scoop shot. But still why do they keep going back to him?

Super overs havent been too good for NZ on most occasions with WC super over bowled by Boult being the epitome of how bad it generally has been for them and Southee has been at the receiving end more often than not.

Southee has never been a good T20I bowler in general.

NZ should have given kuggeleijn the super over, he would have been more difficult to hit as he hits the deck hard just back of a length.

There is a general technique of bowling in super overs.

Dont just choice the batsmen which are known power hitters, choose those batsmen who performed well in the match. For example, if Afridi din't bat well, dont send Afridi, send in Babar Azam if he made a good score.

For the bowler its other way around. Give the ball to your best bowler irrelevant to how he performed in that match

Think twice before using spinners even if they had a good outing lol. In one of the IPL Mendis finished with 4 overs 3 for 19. Ganguly thought he would be a good bet. With 16 to defend , Yusuf Pathan finished in 4 balls.

He's average these days. Don't understand why NZ play him in every format and every condition. Unless the ball is swinging he definitely won't do much damage on these small grounds in New Zealand.

He should never bowl a super over again.

He was the captain, so he chose himself to bowl. The legend continues.

:))) omgggg, i just saw the score card.

another tie. southee bowls and they lost

I'm stunned they went back to Southee. What did they expect to happen? :murali

It was a funny situation. Southee was the captain as Williamson was not playing today. He went to dug out and talked to Williamson before choosing the bowler. Only then he decided to bowl.

But then Boult gave up 17 in the World Cup Final super over. Just a horrid time to bowl, with the batters aiming for maximum every ball.

Once that final went to super over, England were obvious favourites. Their hitting power was tremendous. Roy and Bairstow didn't even came to bat.

The margin of error is very very less in a super over against a confident Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler both really high quality LOs hitters.

Really feel for Southee, not a bad bowler at all, just that the length he bowls isn't suitable for t20s, let alone bowling super overs. I remember during his initial years he used to nail Yorkers at death, not sure what happens but it seems her doesn't even try them anymore.

Congratulations to Tim Southee on 100 T20I appearances. Seems like he's been around forever
