Talent Spotter : Khushdil Shah [VIDEOS]

Will Khusdil Shah Replace Asif Ali in ODI at number 6

i think Khushdil shah performed well in domestic and last A tours batting lower doen with impressive Hitting and also bowls 10 overs as he was taking 2-3 wickets regularly in A tours , can bowl as well

Come on inzi select him , whenever he hits ball it goes out of the groumd he already has proven he is finisher against England lions and New Zealand A and U-23 Asia cup

104* runs so for Khushdil Shah against Punjab in Pakistan Cup.

Forgive me if a don't buy a performance from a tournament where Umar Akmal is the highest run scorer.

He performed againt england lions and new zealand A too finished some matches there also

Today from 100 for 5 he chased down 340 with 140+ strike rate made 150

And this lad wasn't even picked for the PSL.

He averaged 8.75 against England Lions in List-A matches in 2018/19.
Not too sure if he played against New Zealand A.

What a knock from him and his list A stats are also one of the best around. How hard is it to see for an ex player like Inzamam or others in team management that what kind of players will be suited for modern day ODI cricket.
If Eng were playing their highest 4 day averaging batsmen in ODIs, we would never have seen their team where it is now.

And we were trying test players vs Aus in ODIs. :inti

One series or even a poor season doesnt define a player. As I have said time and time again, Hashim Amla was averaging around 26 in his first 10-15 tests and there are multiple such examples. You have to find talent and then back him for sometime to come good.

Tbh he was given chance against england lions and he failed miserably.

Yeah I forgot only the likes of Akmal and Shehzad have the birthright to be selected again and again and fail each time, while most others get only one shot of failing or succeeding :hafeez2

Our fans have no idea how to judge batters. They judge them on how long they stay at the crease.

Timing , placement, shot range , and being able to hit all round the ground are irrelevant to Pakistan fans.

Two wrongs dont make a right , yah he can hope for another A tour selection to prove his mettle but after failing against A team he can not be selected for the national team. Even a puff like adnan akmal scored heavily today.

Yes I know and that is why I said that once you see ability in someone you need to back him unless he has disciplinary issues.

One or two poor matches or series shouldnt define the potential of a player especially when he is still 24-25 and isnt on the wrong side of 30s. He can always improve and can get better, Sharjeel's resurgence in PSL's 1st addition was an example of that.

Some players we have definitely got the ability to be pretty good in white ball cricket we just need to keep them in setup, provide them exposure and work on their weaknesses.

In contrast n comparison to Asif and UMER AKMAL, I rate him as BEST FINISHER we hv at present.
He has limitions against short pitch stuff but he is beast against spin. The biggest plus he has is, great game awareness and cool head.
Needs exposure and fine tuning, and he ll b great asset.
Wat we need at present is a power Hitter wid capacity to bowl 4,5 overs and this man possesses it.

Lovely hitting.

Azam Khan picked over this lad for the PSL.........Pakistan Zindabad.

This guy is the real deal. Averaging 50 at almost 100 sr is exactly what Pakistan are looking for. But one thing I noted is almost all the sixes were to the leg side.

He needs better contacts to 'help' him.

Age-old problem still exists, where you need to have friends in the right places to get picked for tournaments like the PSL.

Many thanks

Seems to be hitting form at the right time just before the WC but yet he won't get picked.

After the WC there should be an influx of all these new players like Farhan,Khushdil and maybe Iftikhar who should get looked into getting them in the ODI team with the departure of Hafeez and Malik.

Khusdil is already a better prospect than Asif Ali every was with his 2 PSL games.

.

Looks like his strength is the on-side.

Seems like a batsman who has a very bottom-handed technique.

He has a pretty good off-side game as well but he is predominantly an on side player and likes to hit it over mid-wicket and long-on and not that he can't hit it in the off side. Today, he played some good shots behind point as well and over extra cover. He is a good prospect and should be invested in.

Doesn’t have the range of shots required against international standard bowlers - needs to develop his game but still a good innings

.

Seems to have improved quite a bit since I last saw him bat at the PSL. Looks more balanced while playing his shots.

Look a new system is great but when are going too pick players on merit?

Pakistan one day and t20 team crying out for someone at number 6 position who can clear the boundary . This guy would be perfect, my only hope is Muhammad Wasim fights his corner now that is a selector

Tchnique is too hack-ish to be successful at the Intl T20 level. Pakistan needs big hitters who don;t lose shape & can handle the short pitched stuff at pace.

We currently have Asif Ali playing in ODI and T20's.

Khushdil definitely deserves a chance more than him.

56* off 32 for Khusdil Shah albeit in a losing causing vs S Punjab today in National T20 Cup

Averages like 48 in list A cricket.

Pondering over his stats make me believe that his technique against moving ball is not great hence his pathetic FC record on those green mambas we used to produce till last year.

Not much of an issue under current International pitches , lets hope he doesn't do brain farts and can handle short pitch stuff.

He is not an opener, In one day cricket hardly ball moves.

Great chance to prove himself in international cricket - been hearing a lot about him so fair that he gets a chance.

Misbah's comments on his selection

Khushdil Shah has been added as he is in-form and has displayed his power-hitting abilities

From PCB:

Bannu-born, 24-year-old left-handed batsman Khushdil has scored 93 runs at a strike-rate of more than 160 in the ongoing National T20 in Faisalabad. Khushdil has scored 630 runs in 33 T20 matches with the aid of five half-centuries, his highest score is 65.

Khushdil is known for his six-hitting prowess, in 50-over cricket, he has hit 82 sixes in only 54 appearances.

Khushdil Shah said: “I am thrilled at my inclusion in the national T20I squad. I want to replicate my domestic cricket performances at the international level. My style of batting has always been aggressive; I will enter the international arena with the same mindset.

“In domestic cricket I have played alongside Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed having them around in Australia will be a great help.

For his match winning 26-ball 46, Khushdil Shah is the Man of the Match for KP v CP

I think he bowls a bit as well he can be a very handy number 6 7 if it is so

The kind of player Pak needs to perform and be part of the LOI setup.

Khusdil looked ackward when playing the short ball, but with hard work he can improve, let's see if does.

The one upto head height might have been a bit difficult but anything below that he has been able to put those in stands.

I think he is setup to play the hit over mid on or cow corner, if the ball is short, his weight transfer at this stage needs big improvement

Glad he's getting his chance at the international level.

He'll need to add a few shots to his game if he is to succeed.

Khushdil Shah at a media interaction today:

"The selectors have trusted me and inshaAllah I will try to live up to the expectations. Like they are aggressive, we will try to do the same and my natural game is to be aggressive"

"Power hitting is my strength and I've worked hard on it"

"I've played at Abbottabad, Diamond Cricket Ground which can be similar to what we will get in Australia. We are trying to practice according to the requirements there. We will work hard and try to do well for Pakistan"

"I used to watch Saeed Anwar a lot when I was following cricket. Then I also started playing cricket but my family didn't like it initially but when I pursued it then they supported me, specially my elder brother"

"I had a stint with PZ in PSL, I watched the players there like the foreigners and learnt a lot from them"

"We don't look at the opposition, we are ready to perform"

"There is no pressure, players who don't perform for Pakistan go back to domestic cricket and work hard and then they get selected. This is the Pakistan team so whoever can do well for Pakistan is selected"

"I have been playing domestic cricket for 5-6 years now, Babar Azam used to play with me in U19 also"

Starc, Stanlake and Cummins better be well prepared. :smith

Hope the lad does well. He looked ropey against pace when I saw him play, but let's hope that he has kicked on.

T20I debut for Pakistan in 3rd T20I vs Australia

Excellent finish to Pak innings 54* off 25 vs Oman

Anyone here feel a bit disappointed by his performances so far? I know being down the order at 6 isn't giving him the platform to perform, but is it too early to disregard him for upcoming Asia Cup or World Cup this year?

Maybe we shouldn't put too much emphasis on PSL performances with picking the national side? I had hopes for him to be that middle order hitter we need for both limited overs cricket.

Thoughts?
