Seems a hardworking guy, with a consistent record for Bangladesh across both formats. Also doesn't come off as aloof as say Shakib, and is relatively genial in interviews and such.

Hasn't really been trusted with a leadership role for whatever reason, but nevertheless is arguably the best batsman they have produced so far.

What do you think?

Doesn't really create the impact that he should considering the amount of talent he has got. nonetheless is still Bangladesh's best batsman, they look a different outfit when he bats when

but my question is a guy with his talent should be getting over a run a ball centuries rather than labouring there at the SR of 80

Dot ball specialist

One of the most talented cricketer IN THE WORLD

But lacks any intent to go the 4th or 5th gear which is why in my books he will always be an average LOI cricketer.

He isn't liked much in BD

If he played for another country he would be kicked out if he didn't accelerate and would probably score 100s at quicker rate.

His mindset changed after 2010. He was instructed to bat with more responsibility because at that time Shakib and Tamim was 90% of the Bangladesh batting lineup, and Shakib has poor technique and equally poor temperament.

AFAIK Tamim Iqbal is nowhere liked as in BD. I know once he had his facebook page deactivated multiple times because of abuse.

That's strange, why isn't he liked in Bangladesh? Is it an ethnicity factor?

That’s weird. I’d swap him for Imam in our ODI team any day

I like him as person and cricketer as well. Looks most disciplined man in their xi.

I remember Tamim used be as disrespectful as Shakib back in around 2010-2012, and I think he was dropped (?) before 2012 Asia Cup. He was also abused a lot for being inconsistent from 2011 to early 2015.

Like many posters have said, he has the talent and ability to be an absolute destroyer but for some reason he just doesn't go that extra distance. He has the tools and hitting prowess I would say to become a right legend but he just doesn't whether thats confidence or mentally but still a very good player. As for liked, I many Bangladesh players are ahead in that retrospect.

Such as? Surely not Mushfiqur or Shakib.

I think mashrafe is more popular than him in bangladesh. But if we talk about whole cricket world than tamim is surely the most likeable bd player

Not only yours but on everyone's book he is an avg cricketer. Remove stats against minnows and he becomes a poor man's Imran Fahrat. Even Shakib is a mediocre cricketer according to me and wont play more than 10 tests if he was from Ind/Pak. Mashrafe? I mean...lol.

The only good cricketer you have is Mushy. Though he is notorious in terms of tweeting and cobra dancing, but cant fault his batting.

Mashrafe is the Bangladeshi cricketer I like the most. He has been an exceptional leader.

Shakib is an overachiever. His batting technique is garbage but still manages to get runs somehow. His slogging is beyond ugly, looks like a tailender when he does it. Bowling doesn't have much variagion either. And yeah, Mushfiqur is easily the most talented BD batsman. He also has extra gears unlike other BD batsmen.

Shakib is an ATG all rounder. However, he is arrogant and more childish along with Mushy which is one of the major problem with BD team.

Shakib is my favorite Bangladeshi cricketer. Heck around 2008-2013 he was one of my favorites ever and still have a soft spot for him.

Honestly speaking he along with Kohli and Sanga might be the only subcontinental players I wished had been Pakistani

Shakib is not even close to being an ATG. Not that great statistically or impact wise against big teams. He is a BD great and that is all.

No, it's not ethnicity factor, it's about behavior.
Mashrafee is the most liked person. He is called pagla, guru, leader by the bengali fans... You can't find any banggladeshi dislike him.

Ok sure, statistically is that why he was number one all rounder for the entire last decade?

No.1 ranking is a realtive measure amongst current players. We live in an era where all rounders are rare. Even Jadeja and Ashwin became no.1 all rounder. But you need to have some stats to consider as ATG (ALL TIME GREAT).

Imran, Botham, Kallis etall are genuine ATG all rounders.

I like him. But I seriously dislike his habit of wasting too many dot balls. Not because of blocking but lack of finding the gaps. Hit but blocked to the fielder in inner circle. This has been since his start of the career. The difference is back than in 2009-12 he used to make up his dots by hitting boundaries more..still was mostly 75-80 strike rare player, rare occasion 100 odd. But was very incosistant.

For the same reason he was horrible in the t20s back than. So I think he had and still has this lack of gap finding innovations for which despite all his hitting prowess his strike rate was not as good as it should have been.

Still he was our best top order hitter at the top in the ODIs. Very reliable in Tests from the start.

Now he plays more 'sensibly' as his dots are now actually means hes blocking. Hes matured enough too.

I don't agree with Executioner in this regard. He may not be a celebrity like Shakib but Tamim is one of the topmost favorite player among us.Mashrafee easily tops the list.

Mashrafi is the guy I always like from BD . I rate Tamim talent highly but he never fulfilled it .In the start of his career I had liking to him but it vanished quickly after his on field antics.

THough Akram Khan is most favourite Bangladeshi cricketer along with Mohammed Rafeeq and Bulbul.

Most of the Bangladeshi players r worshipped by the bangla supporters even though all of them r mediocre at best.

Most of our fans talks as if our players r some World beaters when the fact is most of our players r bunch of egoistic guys. Nothing more than that. Weak and unfit Mashrafe, minnow basher Shakib, one trick pony Fizz and Sabbir, u name it, all of them r mediocre and aren't good enough to feature even in medium level Ranji team.

That's the fact. But in Bangladesh they r superstars. Even though after 30 years we r still the useless minnow as we were 30 years before.

Mashrafe is a useless player. He isn't fit enough to play even for any school level team leave alone leading a national side.

The only reason he still represents Bangladesh is he plays for team like Bangladesh where hard work and dedication has no value. As long as u r good at locking the boot of the board officials u r good to stay in the team for as long as u want.

Mash has strong connection with board officials, he is also BAL sympathiser and writes columns in local newspapers. These r the reasons why he's still in the team. Not for his performance.

Neither rated nor liked him until 2015 when he gave us a royal phainti in the odi series after the worldcup.

And then he played for Zalmi and now like him.

Mashrafe is an absolutely meh cricketer. Saqib is also the same with so-called aggression. I would wish to like Mushfiqur but his celebrations and banter against India was tasteless. I mean India and Pakistan have had three wars but our cricketers, a few aside never have had anything against each other which looked this childish. In fact the punjabi boys from both sides of the border get along really well.

I'd say it's just Tamim for the crown

I don't really like any Bangladeshi cricketer apart from mustafiz who seems very down to earth guy. Tamim is likeable guy. Yeah I like him a bit since he played for zalmi.

Do you even follow BD cricket?

It was Mashrafe(along with Tamim) who broke Bangladesh's Caribbean duck.

Mashrafe Mortaza, who nearly didn't tour because of his ill wife, provided the perfect follow-up, taking four wickets and making a statement with his thunderous leadership to give the visitors some joy four weeks into what has been a horror tour.

Shakib is very likeable. Ashraful was that as well though he is not in the team anymore I believe.

Bump.

Classy by him yesterday - walking out to bat even with a broken wrist.

Mashrafe and Tamim are the most liked guys here. Very passionate players.

Never really liked Shakib and Tamim because of their behavior on the field.

Tamim is actually very calm on-field these days. Back in the day he would sledge opponents and have run-ins with bowlers all the time but he has matured a lot. During the fracas at the end of the Bangladesh - Sri Lanka match in the Nidahas trophy you can see Tamim trying to calm things down when all hell was about to break loose.

Shakib may be the biggest celebrity and the richest player in the team but he is fast losing support and popularity among Bangladeshi fans. His commitment to Bangladesh seems to be waning and all he seems to be interested in these days are T20 leagues and endorsements. He skips pretty much every pre-series training camp to holiday with his family in America and his interviews and comments to the media are creating disruptions and divisions within the team.

Mashrafe by a distance and then some. Probably wouldn't even be in their team based solely on his bowling, but as a captain and a personality, he's definitely the most likeable and affable cricketer from Bangladesh.

Mashrafe, Tamim and fizz are the only ones I like

Shakib is quality but he is also a git

Less said about the rest the better

The most well behaved cricketer in BD, probably in Asia & world is hands down Mahmudullah. Guy is extremely cool, polite and highly educated. In 15 years from school cricket, I haven't heard/read any negative news against him and he plays across globe, with lots of friends.

Mashrafe and Mustafiz are the most likeable guys from Bangladesh IMO. They come across as humble, down to earth and composed.
Tamim has a history of downplaying his opponents like having said Vitori is ordinary and then bangladesh conceding him 3 5 five fers in the series. In 2015, he said Rabada is not anything special and he went on to get a 6 fer.

Only in BD not is Asia. No one comes close to MSD in behaving well.

Met Shakib a couple weeks ago after he performed Hajj and came to NJ. Have to say, I didn’t expect him to be like that. He was extremely quiet and polite. He came over to a cricket tournament I was playing in and he was gladly taking pictures and signing autographs.

I was in total shock because I expected him to be very different but he was a very nice guy. Even stayed a bit longer to watch our match and give a couple tips to players.

Mahmudullah for me. Think Tamim soured his rep after that pathetic cobra/nagin dance. For me anyway :P

No stable partner could be the main reason. We tend to lose wickets early even now. He use to be very aggressive but that would cause wicket tumbling on both ends. Someone had to give up his desire over the team's need. He use to get starts and then get out cheaply. Now with less risk taking he has become more consistent.

Did him a world of good. We will definitely miss him rest of the tournament and the next Zim series.

You must have missed his antics then. He threatened to retire, flashed his crotch to the camera and innumerable controversies. Dude is as unpleasant as it gets.
Do Bangladeshis all look alike?

It wasn't him. It was the World #1 alrounder, the other super star.

Tamim showed the rest of the youngsters how to have the will, courage and be bold, think out of the box. Batted one handed, with a broken wrist. In his head he was set and knew he can, he can defend or leave if was wide and wasn’t scared or worried. Unless it was a fine yorker 90mph+ nothing else could’ve got him out, as am sure he would’ve not tried to fetch outside off with his bottom hand not used in action and knowing he cannot take it on, a bouncer would’ve been ducked easily as he wouldn’t nor could’ve hooked or pulled. He made up his mind straight away prior coming on as the last wicket, hence what gave him the will power to go out and show bravery with one hand!

Yeah, deliberately pushing a new guy by shoulder to send him to pavilion is a sign of most humble, cool and down to earth guy. Yeah.

If you are talking about the incident where he brushed aside a bowler from Bangladesh (perhaps Mustafizur). I think you didn't noticed that your well behaved bowler was frequently coming in between of runners deliberately to produce a run out, and Rohit had warned him once to not keep doing it. Perhaps he needed a lesson, and what MSD did was correct.

That'd be Mortaza, been a decent captain and somehow managing to take wickets despite looking innocuous. Add to it his joking around with Sarf and Rohit at the presser recently :)))

Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh opener, said that his role in the one-day international team is to bat for as long as possible and construct the innings.

Tamim is one of Bangladesh's most experienced batsmen, and their leading run-scorer in ODIs since 2017. Overall, he has scored 6540 runs in 190 ODIs, at an average of 36.33, and is often heavily relied on to play an anchoring role.

"Can't I play more shots if I want? Don't I want to be adventurous too? But the thing is, we play for the team. There is nothing bigger than the team,'' Tamim told Cricbuzz. "Say, I played with 150 strike-rate but the team lost. What's the point then? But I played with 60 strike-rate but the team won, I am happy. The team wants me to play up to 30-35 or 40 overs. When wickets fall at the other end, they want me to stay on the crease even more."

Tamim credited former national team head coach Jamie Siddons with improving his batting. The 30-year-old said that he was initially struggling to get going in Bangladesh's opening game of the Ireland tri-nation series, against West Indies, on Tuesday, 7 May. But he recalled Siddons' words, which gave him the strength to push on. As a result, after scoring just six runs off his first 30 balls, he hit back-to-back fours against Kemar Roach in the 10th over, before going on to notch up his 45th ODI half-century and share a 144-run opening stand with Soumya Sarkar.

"The good thing about my innings was that after struggling, one can come out and play a rash shot and say probably it was not my day. But going through the struggle and surviving was difficult. In the end, you will have an impact on the outcome of the game.

If you see my records of the past few years, the way I am playing has helped the team. This is more effective.
Tamim Iqbal

"I learnt this lesson from Jamie Siddons as he always used to say, 'when you are struggling, you only have two options: either you can return to the dressing room and sit with us, or you can fight it out in the middle.'"

Bangladesh will play West Indies again on Monday, 13 May. They are leading the table with six points in their kitty. After the tri-series, they will play two warm-up games before beginning their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign on 2 June against South Africa at the Oval.

Tamim scored his 334 runs off 426 deliveries with fourty two fours and three sixes

Tamim Iqbal has become the second Bangladeshi batsman to score a triple hundred in the first class match and scored the highest individual score, 334 not out , at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Sunday.

Tamim scored his 334 runs off 426 deliveries with forty two fours and three sixes.

The first triple century was Rakibul Hasan who scored 313 in 2007. Tamim crossed the 313 run mark as well and finished as 334 not out eventually when his team East Zone declared the innings on 555 for 2 against Central Zone during their Bangladesh Cricket League match (BCL) on Sunday.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal, in his attempt to keep fans and people in general entertained during this crisis, held a Facebook live interaction with former South Africa captain Faf du Plesis as the duo shared some of their stories and titbits from their careers. At one point during the video chat late on Wednesday night, Tamim reminisced about the Test that he claimed to be the best among the 60 Tests he played for the country till date.

It was a Test against Pakistan in Khulna in 2015 which the Tigers went on to draw, thanks to Tamim and Imrul Kayes's incredible 312-run opening stand – the highest opening stand in Tests by Bangladeshi openers.

Tamim, who scored his career-best 206 in that match, picked that as one of his favourites after Faf had just finished talking fondly about his debut Test experience.

"I think it is one of my favourite Test matches. We were playing Pakistan and in Khulna. I think you have not been to Khulna. So, we were trailing by almost 280 or close to 300 runs and still had a day and a half to go.

"Mushy [Mushfiqur Rahim] got injured in that game and Imrul Kayes had to keep for almost 160 overs. And then in 10 minutes he had to come back and open innings with me. We had a record partnership which is still a record for the highest second innings opening stand. We had a partnership of 312 and Imrul went on to score 150 and we actually managed to draw that Test match. It was the best Test match that I ever played in," Tamim recalled.

Wish Fakhar would learn something from Tamim in LQ!

Fifty for him in the ongoing Test vs Sri Lanka

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has been a regular feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) over the years but was not picked for the tournament this time. The left-hander cited his reasons for opting out of the tournament this time around during an interview with The Daily Star today.

The PSL was stopped midway on March 4 due to the fresh outbreak of coronavirus but talks are ongoing to hold the sixth edition of the tournament in UAE next month. Tamim had featured in the PSL final last season with Lahore Qalandars but his side were beaten in the final Karachi Kings by five wickets.

Tamim had his own assignments with the Bangladesh national team during their away tour of Sri Lanka to play a two-Test series in February. However, he still had opportunity to play some matches, but cited that the Dhaka Premier League, which is set to resume in T20 format on May 31, was his primary focus.

"As the Dhaka Premier League will take place and I am already committed to a club so I informed the PSL authorities that we have a tournament in Bangladesh. I also informed them about the amount of payment I am getting from Bangladesh. And even if I went to PSL and my team reaches final I would able to play only four games," Tamim said.

Tamim captained Prime Bank in the DPL before the league was suspended mid-March last year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

"So it won't be beneficial for me as I am committed to Prime Bank Club in Bangladesh, who have already paid half my payment before the pandemic started. So I thought it would be better for me to remain committed to Prime Bank club because they took care of me when there was no cricket in the country. This is the reason I didn't go to PSL," Tamim concluded.

enior Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal has pulled out of the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, urging the national selectors to pick somebody else in his place as he has been a part of the shortest format for quite some time.

''As I did not play in the last 15 to 20 T20 matches, and whoever replaced me, I don't think it would be fair on them if I take their place," the southpaw said in a video message.

Iqbal has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in the history of Bangladesh cricket but was out of action from the T20 format following a knee injury he suffered against Sri Lanka in April-May earlier this year.

As a result of the injury, he did not feature in the T20I series against Zimbabwe as well as the home series against Australia. He has also been ruled out of Bangladesh's upcoming five-match series against New Zealand.

Iqbal went on to add that he has spoken to the top brass in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and have informed them about his withdrawal from the showpiece event.

''I just called board president Papon bhai (Nazmul Hasan) and chief selector Nanno bhai (Minhajul Abedin) few minutes back and said that I don't think I should be playing in the World Cup and I am not available for it.

Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to NZ on December 8 for the two-match series, set to start in the first week of January

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal needs another one month to recover from the fracture on his right thumb and thus, the left-handed opener is all but ruled out from the upcoming tour of New Zealand for a two-match Test series.

Tamim had recovered from what was initially thought to be a single fracture, picked up during his participation in the Everest Premier League in October this year.

However, due to slow recovery, he underwent further medical assessment, on November 14, of the injury which revealed he had carried not one but two fracture on the same finger.

Tamim travelled to London earlier this week and met with the doctors in Leeds.

The doctor suggested that there is no need of a surgery and Tamim should rest for another one month and undergo treatment advised.

The doctor will assess the recovery by the end of December.

Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to New Zealand on December 8 for the two-match series, set to start in the first week of January.

Tamim is missing out from the Pakistan Test series at home too, which is set to begin this Friday.

Tamim while speaking to the media informed that he is upset for being out of the field for this long but happy that he doesn’t require a surgery.

“I was a bit worried for the possible surgery as it would have put me out for another eight to 12 weeks. The doctors said it is not required. The doctors said one of my fractures has almost recovered and the other one will take some time. There will be pain too and it will take at least four weeks to recover,” said Tamim.

“The doctor will assess my thumb by end of December. If permitted I can start with light batting sessions,” the Bangladesh ODI captain added.

Tamim had returned to the field facing tennis balls in the nets in the first week of November.

But the pain in facing cricket ball became a concern and had put the left-handed batsman for further medical assessment.

Tamim first attended the doctor in London over video call and travelled to Europe for further treatment.

Mahmudullah, Tamim and Mustrafizur are probably the most liked Bangladeshi cricketers by neutral fans. Mohammed Rafique was also a great human.
Tamim not playing this T20 WC just to give chance to youngsters was a quality stuff..
Shakib, Rahim, Rubel and Nurul are utter disgrace to the game.

I think Tamim is quite likeable.

I remember he once tried to bat with a broken hand or something.

He seems more down to earth than some of the other Bangladeshi players.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has left it on Tamim Iqbal to decide if the cricketer wants to play T20Is for Bangladesh.

Tamim removed himself from Bangladesh T20I fold citing various reasons ahead of the T20 World Cup last year.

Since then the BCB boss and a group of directors have been trying to convince Tamim to reconsider his decision and play the shortest format of cricket for the country.

Tamim is the current ODI captain and is also playing Tests.

Though the left-handed batter has decided not to play T20Is, he is yet to call retirement in the format.

Nazmul while speaking to the media Saturday informed that he had spoken to Tamim on the matter but doesn’t want to force him to change his decision.

“I had told him [Tamim] to come back to T20Is the last time I spoke to him. There is no reason for him to leave the format, he is our best opener and he must keep playing it. I spoke to him on phone and he had requested me that I should not force him and that it is not easy for him to say no to me. He seriously doesn’t want to play this format [T20I],” Nazmul informed.

“After this I thought it will not be wise to tell him anything further. It is not right to force someone to play a format if he is not willing to play,” the BCB chief added.

Bangladesh opener Tamim through a Facebook video message last September announced that he was not going to participate in the T20 World Cup in Oman and United Arab Emirates.

Tamim had then requested the selection panel not to consider him for the tournament as he has been away from the format for months and thought his inclusion may unjustly deprive players who are doing well currently.

Tamim made his T20I debut against Kenya in Nairobi in January 2007 and played the last match in this format against Zimbabwe in Mirpur in March 2020.

Tamim scored the only century in Bangladesh’s history in T20Is when he made 103 not out against Oman in Dharamsala in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Tamim, the highest run getter for Bangladesh in Tests and ODIs, is the second highest run getter in T20Is with 1701 runs from 74 matches till date.

Since his last T20I and before Bangladesh’s home series against New Zealand last year, he missed 12 matches.
