What's new

Team Green [181 & 354/4] beat Team White [249 & 284/5] by 6 wickets in 4-day match at Derby

Really don't understand how anyone can advocate playing Faheem. His batting was always mediocre and now that his bowling is no better, with our long tail, it would be a disaster to play him at 7. The only thing he can do is to provide some rest to the main bowlers. But then that job can be easily done by any combination of part timers like Azhar, Shan, Asad, Fawad and Iftikhar. And if we absolutely have to play an allrounder (actually a bit and pieces player as we don't have a proper allrounder) then I would rather take Shadab, Kashif or even Wahab over him.

If that brief clip is a good representation of the whole day then the batsmen look a little rusty. Shan as always looks suspect and Haider despite a few impressive shots looks too raw. Naseem though looks amazing, even from a short run up. Also can't understand how people are calling for Abbas to be dropped. Even at this pace he is a serious threat in favorable conditions and can keep it tight if the conditions don't suit him. Given England's relatively inexperienced top order tight spells at the top will be extremely important.

I think the only place up for grabs right now is 6/7 where most probably a batsman will play (knowing Misbah it will probably be Iftikhar) unless one of the bits and pieces players really impresses with the bat.
Aamir Yamin would have made more sense, at least he can bat unlike Faheem

I have no issues with Faheem’s bowling only if he starts to get some runs at no.8.

He actually had a decent run for a few months with his bowling in international cricket and then i dont know what really happened, he lost confidence.

Still a reasonable 4th seamer but i feel someone like Umar Amin could have a similar job with his medium pace in England.

Indeed. Umar Amin should have been given a chance in tests after Misbah and Younis retired. Wasted talent and opportunity. So cruel that he was discarded after 4 tests in England at the age of 20. Didn’t wanna repeat that with Haider.

Update from Derby, day-two of four-day match:

PCB White: 249 all out in 94 overs.

Mohammad Rizwan 54 not out

Naseem Shah 5-55

Pretty ordinary batting effort that.

But when you look at the quality, 249 is probably about par.

Wickets.

Naseem Shah completed a five wicket haul on the second morning of Pakistan’s intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground, Derby.

The 17-year-old took the last two wickets as Team White were bowled out for 249 with Mohammad Rizwan unbeaten on 54 from 130 balls and in reply, Team Green were 63 for 2 at lunch.

Conditions were dull enough for the floodlights to be on from the start and Naseem struck in the second over by bursting through Kashif Batti’s defence.

Mohammad Rizwan cut Mohammad Abbas for four and an edge through the slips off Naseem took him to the first 50 of the match before the innings was wrapped up.

Usman Shinwari edged Naseem to second slip and the bowlers continued to pose problems when Team Green replied.

Shaheen Afridi went past the bat numerous times in a probing opening spell from the City End but Sohail Khan made the breakthrough when Abid Ali glanced a catch down the legside.

Usman Shinwari replaced Afridi and struck immediately when Fakhar Zaman gloved to third slip but despite some uncertain moments, Azhar Ali was 27 not out at the interval.

umar amin was rubbish and will always be rubbish..he was given enough chances in ODI's and was a miserable failure..please stop regurgitating this nonsense..

Faheem Edge should be nowhere near this team. We made big mistakes carrying him along and hiding him that Australia series so that he can play at WC. Butler, Stokes ,Pope are the guys Faheem maybe bowling to and I can't imagine the thrashing he will recieve. I don't mind Wahab since he can bat too. I think Shady should play instead of Yasir. We need long batting to counter England.

Update - Four-Day Intra-Squad Practice Match: Lunch, Day Two

PCB Green: 63-2

19 overs

Azhar Ali 27 not out
Asad Shafiq 4 not out

Usman Shinwari 1-13
Sohail Khan 1-20

If our bowlers perform and batsmen manage without any horrible collapse, we have a good chance of beating them. Anything above 270 should be enough.

Why did Shaheen, Musa, Bhatti, Shinwari even bat? Should've just moved to the next innings

For test cricket, I’d say Haider needs to play 1-2 seasons to really get a solid grip on the format. For t20s, I believe he’s ready and should play all three t20s vs England.

agreed

Pakistan’s pace bowlers again impressed on a rain-interrupted second day of the intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground, Derby.

After 17-year-old Naseem Shah took 5 for 55 to bowl Team White out for 249, Shaheen Afridi removed Pakistan captain Azhar Ali whose Team Green were 111 for 3 at tea.

Cool, cloudy conditions under floodlights favoured the bowlers but the tourists will have been encouraged by the way Naseem and Afridi have performed.

Naseem took Team White’s remaining two wickets in the morning, leaving Mohammad Rizwan unbeaten on 54, and the batsmen continued to struggle with Afridi in particular asking questions.

He could have taken at least a couple of wickets in a probing opening spell which may have helped Sohail Khan remove Abid Ali for 10, caught behind down the leg side.

Fahkar Zaman was gloved by Usman Shinwari and two rain delays after lunch only added to the batsmen’s problems.

Azhar fought hard for his 31 from 66 balls but Afridi drew him into playing at one that moved away enough to take the edge and Iftikhar Ahmed survived a dropped slip catch on 7 off Shan Masood.

Update - Four-Day Intra-Squad Practice Match: Tea, Day Two

Team Green 111-3

39 overs

Asad Shafiq 29 not out
Iftikhar Ahmad 13 not out

Note: The afternoon session was extended by 10 minutes due to a 20-minute rain delay

Have little expectation from Azhar in the series against England, it is a do or die situation on paper given his form but I feel that management will give him a very long rope

He needs to perform if he doesnt babar will captain or shan is vice captain also big series for shafiq if both dont perform the need to be dropped we have the players just need to give them a chance

Sohail Khan's wicket was a pretty ordinary shot too. I don't think Yasir 'took' either of his two wickets.

I meant more the fast bowlers the spinners normally on day 1 or 2 are gifted wickets more than taken wickets

How long has this been said. Pakistan wasted ten years on these two where they still have no value for their wickets but playing as senior batsmen and as a captain.

Sohail Khan with 3 wickets.
Misbah might actually pick him now in the playing XI if someone gets injured.

What a ball by Shaheen to get Azhar Ali out. Bowling looks strong but batting is still below par.

I think he can be useful as long as he is fit. He can be a useful number 8 and play the role of bowling all round.

Looking at the video clip he looks very stiff. He had fitness problems in 2016 and he is not getting any younger.
Plus the ball on which Abid got out was pretty ordinary.
He is a decent lower order batsman but the problem with Pakistan bowling right now is that the back up options are not great.
Naseem,Shaheen and Abbas are pretty good but not even a single bowler in the whole squad is half as good as they are(Talking about tests only).

End of play day-two of four-day match at Derby: PCB Green

162 for 5

Asad Shafiq 50 not out
Faheem Ashraf 5 not out
Azhar Ali 31
Iftikhar Ahmad 31

Sohail khan 3- 42
Shaheen Afridi 1-28
Usman Shinwari 1-18

It's hard to see Faheem being in the playing XI...mediocre batsmen and he can't get any wickets either. I am predicting they will go with Abbas/Naseem/Shaheen/Yasir and one of Fawad/Iftikhar in the lineup (likely Iftikhar due to his right arm off spin bowling).

Batting (as always) is a major concern going into this series against a strong bowling attack. Azhar, Shan, Abid are all still looking for runs, even Babar doesn't seem to be in the best of forms

This could turn into a decent game!!
Hopefully faheem can score some runs, and shadab can pick up a couple.
Seems underbowled but he will have the last innings

Is this based on 1 ininings that babar isnt in best of forms

If iftikar can get us those lefties,it's goona be good addition and team combination considering he keeps on scoring those 30 40 runs.

Not sure what Misbah is trying to achieve here - Shadab bowled 3 overs, Musa 10. Unless SK is carrying any niggle, I thought he should be bowling non stop from one end here. 3 overs out of 56 for your potential starting spinner, even on an absolute green top is too few for a practice game.

Perhaps he has changed his mind. he may go with Yasir Shah :yasir

Update - Four-Day Intra-Squad Practice Match: Innings Break, Day Three

Team Green 181 all out

65.1overs

Asad Shafiq 51
Azhar Ali 31
Iftikhar Ahmad 31

Sohail khan 5-50
Shaheen Afridi 3-33

Agreed shadab should be bowling alot more overs instead of shan something not write their

It kind of makes sense. If they are unsure to go with faheeem and shadab vs Yasir and a high batter, they are probably seeing if shaan can give 10 overs of seam up a day.

This then would mean they play Yasir and the 6th batter

How'd u guys get to know.
Man Naseem is getting me excited!
According to the little commentary available, he seems to be troubling the batsmen. Made Shan and Imam miss a few and hit Shan aswell. Good to see him using the new ball effectively

Where are you getting this info

Shan is a decentpart-time medium pacer, took wickets of Elgar and Markram in SA. Obviously not much pacy, bowls in 120s kph.

I remember Umer Amin bowling his medium pace in Eng and getting 2-3 wickets as well.

Having a medium pacer who might not be threatening or too pacy but, accurate can be a good option in SENA to ball 10 or so overs in an innings if you cant get a decent pace bowling all rounder. Collin De Grandhomme obviously has tons of FC bowling experience but is just a gentle medium pacer who can be threatening in NZ and Eng while can be someone who keeps it tight in other conditions.

After this match I think Naseem and Shaheen should just rest before the tests along with usual practice and net sessions obviously. Dont want them to burnout or have niggles before the match.

Second innings wickets.

ECB had common sense to rest Jimmy Anderson, lets see if PCB DO

Pakistan batsman Abid Ali was at the centre of an injury scare on the third morning of Pakistan's intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground in Derby.

The 32-year-old opener was fielding at short leg when he was struck on the helmet after a full-blooded clip from Haider Ali and immediately fell to his knees before rolling onto his back and needed on-field treatment from the Pakistan medical staff and St John’s Ambulance men.

An ambulance was brought out to the middle but the player was eventually able to sit unaided on a stretcher.

A spokesman for the tourists said Abid had not been seriously hurt and it was hoped he would be able to continue to take part in the match although he may have to go to hospital for precautionary checks.

Before the incident stopped play, Team Green were bowled out for 181, losing their last five wickets for 19 this morning with Sohail Khan finishing with five for 50.

That gave Team White a lead of 68 and at lunch they were 22 for the loss of Imam-ul-Haq who was caught at third slip off Naseem Shah.

Glad that he is okay, could have been much worse.

But the thing is shan masood is guaranteed to start were shadab ain't garrtanted so they should have given shadab more overs to see how hes bowling even if he gets battered atleast u can state he wasnt good enough in tests

Agreed but I stil say shadab should be given more overs cuz we may need 2 spinners on 1 of the pitches

Yes agreed if naseem wasnt taking wickets then I'd say play him in the second practise match but hes taking wicket so no need for him to play but shaheen can play hes fit if they wanted to play him

50 for haider, s/r of 70, seems to be playing more fluently than others, but even if he scores a 100 dont see him being selected unfort :/

Highest individual score in the match so far is 54, by Rizwan.

That's rather worrying.

Haider should be given a chance in the last test. It is written that senior players AA n AS will fail in the series.
Played a good inning against the likes abbas (top bowler for english conditions) , naseem, wahab. Seems to be in good nick.
