West Indies's win percentage used to be around the 40 % mark till 1995. Look at their win % now, its even below Pakistan. What a sad decline.
Pakistan's win percentage used to be much higher, if I recall correctly. But they are themselves to blame mostly.
Poor domestic structure, shambolic PCB, match fixing, poor selection, poor match strategies, player revolts, cheating etc - are all internal issues for which they themselves are responsible.
The only outside factor is the security issues in Pakistan which forced them to play outside Pakistan for a decade. This has been a big factor behind their form decline and for that, they are blameless.

Australia head and shoulders above everyone.
Srilanka have carved out a fairly good test record with Murali and co.
England with over a 1000 test matches.
Soon we will reach to 4th spot.
You’ll approximately need to win your next 22 Tests consecutively and Pakistan to win only 6 of its next 20 Tests (a lot of these are in Asian conditions).
I’d say maybe 3 years before India overtakes us?

okay then we will achieve this before Kohli retires.

I think, you should post win percentages excluding matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka have won alot of matches against BD and Zim. I am sure if you exclude matches against these two teams, India will be ahead of SRL in win percentage.
Don't these stats also include pre 1947 stats when India and Pakistan were one?
I could be wrong.. Just asking.
Then BDs stats will include PAK’s stats and all 5 south Asian teams can share Poms stats.... in fact, Aussies got out of British monarchy probably in 1931, before that .....
Overall, it’s a good table to track over the years. From that table, I think most impressive record is SAF - they got a real hammering from only two other countries playing for their first 50+ years (they didn’t play non white teams) and way ahead of them - still, they have recovered significant grounds, partially true for WIN as well.
Worst probably PAK - never was a poor team to be swept a side till this (last decade), even in 1950s, first decade the Win % was probably better than average standing now because of the land slide downfall in last 10-12 years.
Pakistan started off well in the 50s but had a horror runs in the 60s when they barely won anything even at home

You are right, but 30 out of Sri Lanka's 92 wins in test cricket have come against BD and Zim. If you take them out SRL's win percentage falls from 31.62 % to 24.7 % . Thats quite a large drop.It shouldn’t be used like that - England & Australia has won lots of games against SAF & NZ in early years as well and those were some of the most one sided games.
thought ours would be worse than that.Englandthought ours would be worse than that.
Wow! New Zealand have a pretty poor overall record. I thought it was better than this.
NZ started playing Test cricket in the 1930s and didn't become at all competitive until the 1970s, and then 80s began to improve.
SL & BD have improved much quicker by comparison.
Exactly for his reason, I ignore the older era record of Eng. It's not very meaningful.
Here is Eng W/L since 1970's compared to other major teams. Lost as much as won.
SA - 1.8
Aus - 1.7
Ind - 1.2
Pak - 1.1
Eng - 1
..
..
..
Removing BD and Zim to see how well Eng did since 1970's compared all other teams,
Aus - 1.7
SA - 1.5
Ind - 1
Pak - 0.9
Eng - 0.9
Eng have lost more than they have won in 50+ years when you remove minnows.

Fair to say this theory has been debunked now.

Actually Pakistani did better in UAE and even now UAE will be better for them.Fair to say this theory has been debunked now.

The home pitch excuse has been totally demolished.
Had it been just 1 series, you could have termed it as freak win. But if it happened twice and that too consecutively, it can't be freak.AUS would have been on top if not fro those freak series wins last 2 times by us
