What's new

The 3rd Test between Australia and India ends in a draw with India on 334/5

Good stuff from India. Really hung tough in there through the early bouncer barrage & then got their eye in.

In India's favour to save it now, Oz with a bit mountain to chip away at. There's just no hint they can get 5 wickets but it is the first one that comes hardest...

1 wicket and it will be over soon. Give Ahswin some chin music.

Not sure why Green has been selected. He looks very ordinary with bat and ball. If Australians had a powerful reliable fourth pacer on this wicket, it would have reduced the pressure and load on Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins

That would make the tail too long , Aussies with their brittle batting cannot afford that

Aussie groundsmen removing debris off pitch and removing the guard. Mamoon be like ‘they cheating’

With half of the team injured?? Not sure if you are serious. Indians have punched too far above the team they have, but winning will be a bit too much. The main problem will be taking 20 wickets even if batsmen score runs. I don't see them winning.
Aussie batting is weak. India can take 20 wickets. Jadeja will be a big miss though.

He scored 83

I still think Ashwin will pop one if it's on his body. If one comes then taking 4 more can be done unless only a few overs are left.

Whatever be the result of the match, this is seriously some impressive stuff from India. An injured India-C team holding the fort against a full strength Australian team at home, mighty incredible!

Lol what's the point of his selection if the guy can't score runs or take wickets. Mitchell Marsh looks like a better option vs this guy. A more attacking move would be to select a wicket taking fourth pacer who can reduce the load on the other bowlers. I expected a so called Australian team known for their aggressive fearless style of Cricket to not worry about things like the top order failing, lower order being brittle and instead focus on getting twenty wickets to win a test match

India best chance for a win where pitch is bowler friendly like last two match where our bowlers can take 20 wicket .flat pitch where Australia have an edge.

This Aussie team lacks a bowler like Michael Clarke, who won Australia the Sydney Test in 2008 with his hatrick.

No doubt about it. India's back up players are as rock solid as their first eleven. That's the sign of a number one team where the bench strength steps in and delivers

Sadly, I echo your thoughts. Overall, the last few years have shown AUS is a decent place to rack up totals but bowling and taking 20 wickets on their flat ish tracks is difficult. Even for AUS themselves.

Injuries are part and parcel of the sport but so many coming roost simultaneously suggest some combination of poor luck and possibly effort taking a toll. In fairness, Shami and Ishant are not that young and one can expect them to miss or get injured during series - I know Shami’s case is of getting injured mid-game but he’s at a point in his career where he could equally have been injured beforehand. Jadeja and Pant got injured during the battle so it’s a bit different. Others like Yadav were probsbly not going to be series defining on an individual basis.

The best, and possibly most satisfying part, has been how the AUS batting has been exposed in its depending on 1.5-2 batsmen.

Australian bowling is too boring to be honest. They have no idea how to utilize the reverse swing

Cummins has the chance to win this for Australia , Aussies needs a blockbuster spell from here

In the drinks break just now, the groundsmen came and cleared the debris off the pitch and the crease thus removing the batsmen’s guard. After the play resumed the batsmen had to take their guard again.

Groundsmen cheating!!??!?!!

Due to not playing and isolation in covid, you are going to be more injury-prone. I am not saying that's the reason here, but it can happen.

At this point I think sage to say Aussies don’t look like like taking a wicket
Great effort so far

India have done extremely well on this final day to get a draw, excellent performance. And shows you the value of being a top team. When you need to go on a blockathon, you make it count at the end. Not a mickey mouse timid innings that 100% of the time results in a loss.

Briliant batting by India. I'm very impressed!

They should draw this.

Four

Ashwin clicking when it mattered the most , he has not hyped up all rounder , but has shown tremendous grit when it mattered. This is how you respond to critics , with live performances

Australians throwing everything here at Indians here , but they look frustrated :))

They are. During the 1st or 2nd Test, I posted how their Sandpaper saga and the consequential scrutiny on “values” (elite integrity, elite honesty crap) is costing them.

“Normal” AUS right now would be sledging, getting up close to the batsmen, accidentally bumping into, arguing with the umpires etc. However now, they are reduced to helping Ashwin put on his chest guard.

The real sentiments are bubbling just under the surface and AUS, who normally bring them to the fore whenever the run into competition, are being suffocated by the “values” they must hold up on one hand and being in that infrequent position of facing competition at home in the shape of a team who is playing the ball/conditions instead of names/reputations.

Sooner or later this facade of niceness will burst and we will get to see the AUS of yore.

Ah, plenty of cricket left.

12 over left. One question for Pakistan fans when was Pakistan all out in 1st test vs NZ. how many over left that time ?

Tbh not now. 5 wickets in 11 overs would require a collapse of epic proportion.

India is clearly favorite to pull off the draw now

Hanuma Vihari 7 of 118, Rishabh Pant 97 of 118. Both equally brilliant innings. -- Both equally precious.

Indeed, it can equally be due to not playing or due to older injuries come to the fore. In either case, Shami and Ishant are at a stage where a pragmatic board would always plan with potential injuries in mind and IND have done well.

5.3 overs I think. But I think the collapse started when 18-20 overs were left so india ahead

Australia getting desperate and in total disbelief with their body language looking at Indian batsmen fightback

Post Sandpaper gate? Lol.

The funny thing is that Starc, who used to lead their reverse swing efforts, is not even getting bowled much with Cummins and even Hazlewood being preferred with a reversing ball.

Yah, India has more chance, but given one batsman can not run and one coming next is injured and the rest of them are really not good enough to block.... I won't be that sure.

But yah, if these two can bat some more overs then it will become very hard to take 5 wickets. Even a poor tail can survive.

The so called one of the best Australian bowling attack regarded by AUS commentators have looked well below par in their performance on a day 5 pitch with 2 injured batsmen playing

Absolutely below par performance by Australian attack on day 5

I think Starc is the one who can do something for Aussies , he needs bowl out of his skin here , also if he can break this partnership , new batsman can be under big pressure

Pakistan bhaiyo Todi pray tum bhi kar do draw ke liye . seriously I was in favour of Pakistan draw vs NZ

Starc needs to come and bowl some reverse here...

paine sledging ashwin and ashwin answering him back

Lol we are neutral, if India can beat a strong Australian team with their B or C team, it will be even better than 2018

Ashwin playing over 100 balls, I wonder when was the last time ashwin played over 100 balls batting in a test match

I’ve never understood why Starc wasn’t banned back then.

As it should be. They used a mixture of skill, pitches, physical hostility and colourful “quips” historically to make AUS a difficult touring nation.

The physical part and language have been bolted shut following Sandpaper gate. The pitches in AUS have led to their pacers and I think even Steve Smith (cannot recall) saying on record that they are too flat. Skill wise I prefer to not engage in discussions about their supposed “ATG” attack.

AUS over the last few years especially, notwithstanding that season by Mitchell Johnson, has become a place for attritional cricket. Wickets fall just as often if not far more often due to batting lapses than elaborate movement or bounce.

IND have applied themselves well.
