What's new

The Batman (2022)

Yesss just what we needed another batman movie

DC just keeps trying and trying... nope... very hard to replicate marvel’s success

Looking forward to it.

I don't mind a new Batman movie but they need to make it unique.

I would love to see Joaquin's Joker in it.

Let's have a proper Joker vs Batman movie.

I think the Batman needed a reboot after Affleck spoiling it. I think this will be done well with Matt Reeves as Director who has Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes. Although I think Robert Pattinson is there to bring the young BTS type girls to watch.

Looks like the batman that would make a guest appearance in Watchmen

Wrong. I guess you’ve only watched he’s Twilight movies. He is a accomplished actor. Fits this role perfectly.

Have watched only 1 twlight and that to as my wife, as her mates were on holiday. He does get chances in movies. I think it seems you are more of a Twlight fan calling him an accomplished actor at this juncture in his career.

IMO he doesnt fit the role.

Ben Affleck wasn't the reason it was bad, just the Nolan trilogy was always going to be hard to follow.

Accomplished actor based on other roles apart from Twilight.

Batman needs to be played by someone who is charismatic. Villain shouldn't outshine Batman in the movie.

Nice. I wonder who they will make Bane. I think Tom Hardy has potential, not sure though..

Superstar mahesh babu should play Batman or captain America role one day

There will always be "another Batman movie" you all can groan all you like. If you don't want to see it then you really don't have to.

But Affleck was bad either way.

Disgaree - Affleck was the best. The only actor to get both Bruce Wayne and the Batman right. I thought he played the older, wiser, sadder and more ruthless vigilante to a T.

Might have been the case in BvS but he was awful in Justice League.

Don't know, maybe it's just me but whenever I see Affleck all I see is the the same Affleck with his usual wooden face and the occasional "I am better than everybody else" smirk.

Even in his better movies like The Town you know you're just watching Affleck being Affleck.

Or maybe Nolan and Bale just spoiled me.

My favorite Affleck performance is still Good Will Hunting.

Well Batman was always meant to be that guy; a billionaire being the saviour of the masses.

He ruined it in Justice League, he was decent in Batman vs Superman.

Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne was the best but when he played Batman he was screaming a lot and startled me. Can't believe a vampire is casted to play Batman. RIP DC

I liked the first Nolan movie, the second was at least intriguing with Ledger and Eckhart though I found it lacking in emotion, while the third was just a big mess with gaping plot holes and Tom Hardy incomprehensible.

I liked him in both, but the second act of JL after Whedon took over didn’t work, with Bats making puns like a Buffy character.

You are judging Pattinson based on Twilight...have you actually seen any of he’s other movies? He is a perfect choice for this role.

Batman Begins is the best of the three. TDK is overrated..full of laughable plot holes. TDKR is watchable.

I tried to watch that film and gave up after about 10 mins. This is the reason why I say it wasn't Ben Affleck himself who was the problem, the film itself didn't work. Chris Nolan's trilogy was a perfect storm, the right director for the right theme at the right time. Anyone trying to follow Nolan is on a loser far as I'm concerned, The Dark Knight is one of my all time favourite cinema experiences, and the other two aren't far behind.

My favourite batman was Adam West, Keaton and then Bale as for there eras they were the best.

Robert Pattinson is one of the best actors in the world today.

Watch Good Time, High Life, The lighthouse for reference.

Actually if you follow their recent movies, they have veered away from the shared universe model.

This film is completely separate to Ben Affleck's portrayal. Phoenix's Joker was a standalone movie.

Aquaman, Shazam and Birds Of Prey had very minor references to the previous films. DC is showing way more variety in tone than the MCU ever did. All of the above films were either critical or financial successes, or both.

Snyder's vision was doomed to fail as he wanted to copy Marvel's formula without having a proper story in mind

Yeah, he didn’t world-build, he crammed too many new characters into JL.

And yet the DC television shows go from strength to strength.

I don't really get the oh not another Bats movie, there hasn't been a solo release for over 10 years and are people that foolish they'd downplay the credibility of Matt Reeves and Pattinson; having a Bats movie is one thing I agree if there were concerns on the individuals involved but there's a lot to be excited about instead of the usual junk and formula you are use to and from a DC POV things are looking promising as they seem to be developing their own identify on the back of the strength in their source material.

Yes there have many TV shows out there but I've not really got into them apart from Gotham and Arrow, stopped watching both but I know they are very popular.

Affleck was probably solid for most who had read TDKR by Frank Miller as the depictions are similar but overall are let down by the narrative presented in the movie and shifts from what reinforced what the Bat character stands for.

Doom Patrol is excellent and Watchmen is also technically a DC show. So is Lucifer.

Watchmen I look forward to but haven't finished reading the graphic novel, would you say the tv series is better then the movie. Yeah, Doom Patrol has some great reviews

I prefer the TV stuff from Marvel over some of their artificial theatrical releases though, Dare Devil was outstanding and so was Jessica Jones

He does fit the role. Especially with what Revees is going for, a noir detective story which focuses on Batman, he needs a great actor behind the mask and Pattinson is it.

To me he is one of the finest actors working today. Some truly phenomenal performances over the years;
The Lighthouse (goes toe to toe with a career best William Dafoe)
High Life.
Good Time.
These three are his best and really show what he is capable of. He is also going to be the lead in Tenet, Nolan's next. The guy has built quite the career doing indie movies.

Just because he was in twilight doesn't mean he is no good.

The TV series is much better than the movie in terms of quality. It is a direct sequel to the graphic novel while the movie is an adaptation of the novel.

First trailer on the movie:

As said a credible team behind this project and the first impressions are promising

Liking this. It’s got a Se7en vibe to it

As for the new Justice League trailer - boring.

I am looking forward to this. Agreed it's got that David Fincher Se7en vibe to it, which I love.

This Batman is too dark for my liking. But it looks nerve wrecking. The hype is for real.

What folk over look is that the bread and butter of Batman's greatest strength has always been his abillities as a detective, the original comic series covered this in great detail, apart from the animated series no live action film has covered this aspect, the character in nature is meant to be dark and gritty, a neo noir will provide the most authentic live action portrayal

Not seen the JL trailer, I don't know how it will be vastly different compared to what we have already seen but apparently it will be 4 hours long. HBO I think will air 1 hour parts at a time

DC is a master of making great trailers and the movies being terrible, will wait for the movie.

I would be inclined to agree however the recent form has been solid with Shazam, Birds of Prey and Joker; they seemed to have figured out a formula which works best for them. Anyway, coming back to The Batman, it is always best to wait for the movie but if you ignore the 'Twilight guy' comments from the casuals, in Pattinson you find a very credible actor (See Lighthouse, High Life, Lost City of Z etc) and a promising director in Matt Reeves (Planet of the apes movies and Cloverfield); the premise is also intriguing with the focus on a neo noir style output which will emphasise Batman's detective abilities and early struggles with the cape against a formidable foe in the Riddler (glad another villain gets to share the spotlight with the Bat other then Joker). Genuinely look forward to it, I don't think expectations are that high in general but am hoping it will be a great overall effort.

Didn't see birds of prey but you are right it has been getting better also tbf Marvel has been so brutal in winning this movie war that I feel to actually support the underdog now eventhough comic wise DC was always better.

In all honesty I have lost interest in main characters, I feel they need to make movies on not so famous characters and give it genuine representation like Shazam which was amazing(imo) , tired of seeing the famous super heroes again and again.

Production of The Batman is due to start up again in the UK after a coronavirus hiatus, Warner Bros said on Thursday.

The movie, starring Robert Pattinson, had paused because of quarantine for almost six months. It started up again earlier in September only to be closed down after three days because of a positive Covid-19 test result, reported to be Pattinson’s.

The Batman was originally supposed to come out in June 2021 but was pushed back to October 2021 because of the delays.

He did some detection in BvS.

With heightened COVID-19 restrictions announced for Liverpool, people may have been surprised to see part of the city transformed into Gotham for filming on the new Batman movie.

Hollywood star Robert Pattinson, who plays the Dark Knight, and an unrecognisable Colin Farrell (wearing heavy prosthetics to become comic book villain the Penguin) have been photographed in character on set.

“Two years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal,” growls Robert Pattinson’s Batman to no one in particular. The streets of Gotham City are slick with rain and sleaze; defending them is weary work. Nirvana’s dirge-like Something in the Way plays to better illustrate the point. Back at the Batcave, he swaps his cape for a hoodie and dusts off his diary, pushing his greasy, Kurt Cobain-style curtains out of his eyes as he writes down his woes.

And that’s just the opening. Not to worry – there’s no shortage of brooding in Matt Reeves’s bloated three-hour take on the DC Comics superhero. Batman movies are usually goofy or dour; this film is in the latter camp, styled as a neo-noir revolving around rats, moles and the mob. In the run-up to the mayoral elections, the incumbent is brutally murdered by an empowered incel type who broadcasts his crimes on social media. When this killer leaves a perplexing note for the Batman, police lieutenant James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) enlists the help of the city’s unofficial guardian angel to help solve the riddle. As a standalone police procedural, it works quite well, but as a franchise reboot it’s not enough of a reset.

Zoë Kravitz is a highlight as cocktail waitress turned cat burglar Selina Kyle. Feline with a feral edge, she stomps around in thigh-high PVC boots, bonding with the Batman over their shared daddy issues and penchant for fetishwear. As her character puts it, Gotham’s “white privileged ********” keep turning up dead. Bruce Wayne, the man behind the Batman’s mask, could be described this way too. R-Patz plays him with an appealing vulnerability, a well-meaning philanthropist buckling under the weight of white guilt.

Can’t wait to see this.

Difficult to make it to the cinema nowadays with having my little kids, but stuff comes out on home media pretty quickly now.

Won't give any spoilers just yet, but I saw it last night and... it did not disappoint :)

Just got back from the cinema.

This is hands down the worst film I've seen this century....

-100000 / 10

So what were you expecting beforehand? When it's been done perfectly the first time, where else is there to go?

I really don't know what I was thinking...
The wife wanted to see a film, we both fancied a bit of light hearted, brainless action so chose to see this one.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you this... the bloke sitting next to me was snoring, I couldn't barely take it myself... almost everyone walking out of the cinema was saying what a let down this movie was....

The plot, the acting, the actors... I haven't seen seen such rubbish in a very long time.

Thanks for saving a waste of an evening.

When I read this is as good as The Dark Knight, I knew it would be false hype. If it wasnt for the Dark Knight, I wouldnt ever consider watching another Batman movie.

How many time is Hollywood going to rinse the Batman and it’s cronies including Joker etc?

Move on.

Time to bring Superman back to the big screen!

The most accurate incarnation of the character we've gotten to date. It would always bother me how all the previous iterations delved very little into the detective aspect of The world's greatest detective, something this film is chock full of. It was extremely gratifying seeing the disturbing nature of Bruce Waynes' obsession addressed the way that it was.

Gotham was displayed in all its grotesque and bleak glory, one could really see the influences from David Fincher which really works with a city like Gotham.

Amazing cinematography, and a beautiful score to go along with this noir. For me, this is my favorite iteration and I really look forward to seeing where it goes. There were moments that felt straight out of a Batman comic, Matt Reeves really did understand the essence of the character.

The detective aspect?
Oh come on man. The whole thing was a joke...
If you want to see a detective film then go see one.
Not someone walking g around in a hallowe'en costume...

This film was just wrong
