Yep, on point as always. ItÂ’s certainly the most authentic live action adaptation of the character in the comics, taking great inspiration from year one and the long halloween. Gotham looked absolutely stunning, visually alone itÂ’s the best looking bats movie so good job by the cinematography guys, the action was absolutely gripping and you could tell there was a great degree of realism to it given how they shot those scenes with practical effects. Pattinson is definitely the best actor to have played the character, he nailed the role really well, this Bats was in his early years and he reflected that on the emotion side of things and especially some of the reckless decisions, there was a lot more vulnerability because of that but some of his darker outlooks hadnÂ’t peaked which bough us full circle with the opening prologue and during the finishing stretch (without going into detail). Villains were certainly great, especially the Riddler and his psychological warfare, it evoked some elements from David Fincher movies

My biggest criticism is the runtime, 3 hours wasnÂ’t necessary and there was a fair chunk of filler, mostly to set up the spinoffs. And it affected pace and clarity at times with the narrative. Overall though, this is the first attempt at actually getting the detective side of things right and close to the source material as much as possible and it was a great in that sense but defo something to build on, itÂ’s very hard to compare it stylistically as neo noir to other Batman movies though.

Agree , I’m also glad they didn’t go bonkers on Graphics which DC usually does instead putting more detail into sets and camerawork for a change and magic is there to see.

The character of Riddler was fantastic!

You are right about spin-offs Penguin got one, honestly I didn’t realize it was Collin Ferrel shocked.

But i’m excited to see how they carry on!

Definitely, it’s just not needed, and I understand this is not part of some multi-verse. They’ve done 300 mill in the first weekend already and also going by the Joker success it just shows they don’t need the multi-verse gimmick to be successful, especially when you can play with grittier themes and exploit that in various sub genres. Riddler’s was amazing, it’s the first time a villain addressed the obvious surrounding why should certain individuals deserve so much sympathy and he played with that quiet well. Have you read the Long Halloween? I hope we see the Calendar Man in a future movie, he would be a perfect continuation for their neo noir setting.

Collin is my favourite Irish actor, I knew he was cast but you’d not be able to tell if you didn’t read about it, check him out in the seven psychopaths another amazing movie! Besides the penguin spin off, there will be an Arkham Asylum spin off to, all for HBO Max so they should be could and unrestricted creatively.

I also hear a radio series is being developed as a sequel to the GOAT Batman animated series with Mark Hamil reprising his role as the Joker among others

It was really good… only thing was it was 3 hours long which was a bit too much. I noted Batman was more timid in this and also the bat mobile was kinda lame.

<b>The Batman Has Already Earned More Than a Half-Billion Dollars In the Global Box Office</b>

<I>DC has a huge success on its hands.</I>

Comic book movies just continue to dominate the box office, as Matt Reeves' The Batman becomes the latest movie to report huge revenue numbers.

The Batman has already reached $505.8 million at the global box office, making it the fourth highest-grossing film in the pandemic era.

The lion's share of revenue is from North American theaters, where the movie has made $258.3 million, with the rest coming from overseas.

And, the movie has yet to open in some markets, including China.

The film has topped each of the last two domestic weekend box office charts, only seeing a 41% decline from opening weekend to week two. Domestically, it is the second-highest grossing film of the pandemic era, only behind the massive performance of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The financial success matches up with the movie's quality.

We awarded The Batman a 10/10 in our review, saying, "The Batman is a gripping, gorgeous, and, at times, genuinely scary psychological crime thriller that gives Bruce Wayne the grounded detective story he deserves."

And, on our latest ranking of the Batman movies, The Batman came in at #2, just behind The Dark Knight.

We may only be a third of the way into 2022, but the current box office champ of the year is The Batman with $368 million domestically and $759 million worldwide.
That being true, one of the biggest announcements out of several from CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week may have also been the least surprising, which is that Warner Bros. has officially started development on a sequel to The Batman. Nothing is known about the premise or the cast just yet, except that Robert Pattinson will return as the title superhero and that it will be directed again by Matt Reeves.
We can probably expect that a number of actors and characters from the first film will also return (Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright as Alfred and Jim Gordon seem likely), but Pattinson was the only one officially announced at CinemaCon.
As for the villain (or villains) to be featured in the sequel, there has been a lot of speculation online in the last two months, including Mister Freeze (from Reeves himself), Egghead (from Nicolas Cage), Calendar Man and the Court of Owls (from Robert Pattinson), Clayface, and many more, including the Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, Professor Pyg, and that old chestnut, The Joker (cameo played by Barry Keoghan in The Batman).
Another possible addition for the sequel could be Bruce Wayne’s circus acrobat orphan and ward, Robin, whose introduction may have been hinted at by an Alfred line in The Batman.
There is currently no release date for The Batman 2, but it’s unlikely to be before 2024.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to two spinoff shows on HBO Max, The Penguin (starring Colin Farrell), and a series about Arkham Asylum.

I have mixed feelings about the movie. As a film, on its own, it's very good. A grounded, gritty and well written detective movie with beautiful cinematography and decent acting.

But as a Batman movie, I have my reservations about it. Batman, as DC fans know is known to be the greatest detective in its universe. But what happens in the movie is, he keeps "solving" the riddles and till its very end is unable to understand what's Riddler going to do or what his plan is. He is never able to get ahead of Riddler for once. Even in the end when Falcone gets shot, it was pre planned by Riddler and Batman let it happen and let Riddler "win". It presented Batman as a superhero who is unable to rise above his rivals. He kept chasing Riddler and kept moving in his web without any second thoughts. The whole movie is basically little secrets and plans moving forward with the ending intended as Riddler wanted it to. For a normal detective, it would have been fine. But when you make a Batman movie with this premise, it fails here. Batman is the greatest detective in DC and so should not have failed and should have been able to foil Riddler's plan before everything had been said and done. He very much learned the lesson after everything had gone down. He sheds his Vengeance for Hope at the very end which makes for an exciting sequel, but on it's own the movie made Batman look extremely weak. I get it he was merely in his second year, but still, he's Batman. In The Dark Knight, Batsie decodes how intelligent Joker was once he killed Rachel and turned Harvey insane, and goes for Joker by going against him in a different style. He builds the sonar, finds out the hostage/doctor situation, takes down SWAT team and thwarts Joker's plan to blow up two ships. It was really perfect as Batman finally goes one up against Joker in the finale and saves Gordon and his family as well making Joker "lose". In the Batman, all that happened was Batman getting schooled by someone of his age and him even getting a win over him. That's the point that doesn't sit right with me.

On the other hand, I felt John Turturro was absolutely brilliant as Carmine Falcone and was the best part of the movie. For the first time, Falcone was brought to the big screen like a proper big baddie. Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz were good as well. I think Alfred could have been made slightly wiser. Although Andy Serkis did a very good job, I feel Ralph Fiennes would have been perfect. Similarly, Jeffrey Wright was good as Jim Gordon, but not as sympathetic, competent or likeable as Gary Oldman's Gordon. Paul Dano was good as Riddler, but then again it was Reeves' vision of Riddler. In comics, there have been better versions of Riddler.

Regarding Bruce, I didn't buy into the angsty Bruce vibe. I think Christian's Bale did a perfect job as faking the Bruce persona while showing slight glimpses of wit and bite here and there.

But in all, it was a very good addition to the Batman franchise. Much better than Zack Snyder's series.

Bats actually did some detecting unlike in Nolan trilogy

Penguin a regular looking person instead of a monster or caricature
Se7en influence made for a really edgy Riddler
Muscle car Batmobile
Preferred Jeffrey Wright to Gary Oldman
Brilliant car chase

No so good:

Too long with quite a bit of padding
Internet subplot felt tacked on
Moody goth Bruce didn’t work as well as Bale and Affleck versions
Bat armour impenetrable - he could shrug off rifle bullets point-blank which should have flattened him and broken his ribs

Overall my third favourite Bat-flick. behind BvS and Batman Begins.

If they want to stick with this neo-noir Batman - which is a modern take on his dark roots, and for me works better stylistically than the Nolan trilogy - they could do Victor Szasz or Professor Pyg next.

Yes. The long version though; it makes more sense. Batfleck is my favourite screen Batman. He actually got to go some detecting. Finally we got to see (a version of) the climactic fight in The Dark Knight Returns that I read in the eighties. Henry Cavill and especially Gal Gadot ace, and I loved the big Doomsday battle.

It was a shame that the iconic JL characters were let down by less than stellar scripts, but DC are making some good movies again - Joker, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman; as well as clever animated shows such as Harley Quinn and Superhero Girls.

If they want to stick with this neo-noir Batman - which is a modern take on his dark roots, and for me works better stylistically than the Nolan trilogy - they could do Victor Szasz or Professor Pyg next.
