What's new

The constitutional right to keep & bear arms, and mass shootings in the US

Why wasn’t the suspect named? Why is his identity being protected?

The US needs to deal with it’s gun issues,ASAP.

Nothing is going to change anytime soon. Republicans control White House, Senate and House of Representatives. They are not going to pass even a minor law that makes it harder for mentally ill person to get guns. In fact Trump signed executive order to repeal an Obama era law that made it harder for mentally ill person to get guns. Very soon conservatives will get majority in Supreme Court, so almost all "liberal" laws will get shot down in SC.

If things were to change under Republican Congress, it would have changed after Sandy Hook shootings.

Moss Side shooting: Two children among 10 injured

Two children were among 10 victims injured in a shooting in the Moss Side area of Manchester, police have said.

Armed police were called to Claremont Road at about 02:30 BST.

Police said the victims had "pellet-type wounds that are not believed to be serious". One man is in a serious condition in hospital with leg wounds.

The shooting took place at a street party being held after the first day of this weekend's Caribbean Carnival in Alexandra Park.

Chief Supt Wasim Chaudhry, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Thankfully the injuries suffered do not appear to be as serious as first believed and hopefully people will begin to leave hospital over the course of the day following treatment.

"That being said, there may be people who didn't seek treatment last night and I would urge these people to get immediate medical attention if that is the case."

He said the shooting was "a reckless act that could have had devastating consequences".

The man in hospital is said to be in a "serious but stable condition in hospital".

It is not yet clear whether his injuries were caused by the pellets alone, police said.

Moss Side anti-violence campaigner Dr Erinma Bell told the BBC she understood the shooting had been carried out by one man, but this has not been confirmed by police.

The Caribbean Carnival, which has been held every summer since 1972, draws thousands of people.

Residents said a street party was usually held in Claremont Road after the first day of events.

Youth worker Kemoy Walker, who had been on the main stage at the carnival on Saturday, said he was shocked at the news.

He said he had been at another street party in Claremont Road until about 23:30 BST.

"The party I was at was beautiful," he said.

"When I left there was lovely dancing. That's Moss Side, that's the culture. I'm in shock this morning."

He said he hoped the carnival would go ahead as planned on Sunday.

"We need to get the message across to young people to make sure they are not getting involved in negativity," he said.

'Mass shooting' at Madden video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, authorities say

(CNN)The Jacksonville, Florida, Sheriff's Office said there was a mass shooting with multiple fatalities at a downtown shopping-dining complex on Sunday and urged people to stay far away from the area.

"Mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing. Stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY #TheLandingMassShooting," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said on Twitter.

The shooting occurred during a qualifying event for the Madden 19 Tournament at the GLHF Game Bar, according to the Twitter of CompLexity Gaming, one of the gaming teams. One Madden participant, Young Drini, was grazed in the hand and is away from the scene and safe, Complexity said.

On an online stream of the Madden event posted to the website Twitch, several loud gunshots can be heard and the game abruptly stops.

Federal law enforcement officials are monitoring the situation in Jacksonville. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is responding to the scene in Jacksonville Landing, a law enforcement source told CNN.

The Jacksonville Landing is an open-air marketplace with stores, bars and restaurants in downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns River.

Condolences to the families of kids who died.

People can't even play video-games in peace these days

NRA have got blood of many Americans on their hands. Disgusting.

'Multiple victims' in Chicago hospital shooting

Several people have been shot in a hospital in Chicago, police in the city have said.

Officers are responding after reports of shots being fired inside and outside Mercy Hospital on the city's South Side.

There are "reports of multiple victims", police say - but they have not given a number or said how severe the injuries are.

According to ABC Chicago, one suspect has been shot.

The hospital is being partially evacuated, reports say.

Footage from the scene shows one person being taken by emergency services into a waiting ambulance.

Don't think you can get lower than that. Cue the usual excuses, gun control calls, NRA will respond with a church service for their rifles, Trump will post an all important and revolutionary tweet, and cycle repeats.

Hope the victims pull through.

Chicago hospital shooting: Medical staff and policeman among four dead

Four people have died in a shooting at a Chicago hospital, including two female members of staff and a police officer, and the gunman himself.

The two women killed were a doctor and a pharmaceutical assistant, Mayor Rahm Emanuel confirmed.

A police spokesman said the gunman had died in an exchange of shots, but it is not clear if he took his own life.

A second officer avoided injury after a bullet fired in his direction became lodged in his gun, police said.

Officials say the gunman appeared to target a woman he was in a relationship with, but they do not suggest a motive.

"Chicago lost a doctor, pharmaceutical assistant and a police officer, all going about their day, all doing what they love," said Mr Emanuel. "This tears at the soul of our city. It is the face and the consequence of evil."

The incident occurred at Chicago's Mercy Hospital at about 15:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on Monday.

"Multiple shots" were fired after the gunman opened fire in the hospital's car park, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department said.

Patients at the clinic later described hearing gunfire as the suspect made his way into the building, local media reported.

The officer who was shot at but escaped injury during the incident shared images of a bullet embedded in the side of his gun, Chicago news broadcaster ABC7 reported.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi later confirmed "with profound sadness" that an officer named as Samuel Jimenez had died in hospital of his injuries.

Mercy Hospital was quickly evacuated during the incident as armed police swarmed the scene.

The hospital later confirmed that police were able to secure the area, ensuring the safety of dozens of patients.

Other images from the scene showed people rushing outside the facility, including some staff in uniform.

The incident comes just days after some US medical professionals became involved in an online campaign protesting against gun violence.

The hashtag #ThisIsOurLane was used by doctors in response to a tweet from America's powerful pro-gun group, the National Rifle Association (NRA), that suggested anti-gun doctors should "stay in their lane" after high-profile shootings.

Some doctors rebuked the assertion - sharing emotional stories and blood-splattered photographs of their treatment of gun violence victims.

Almost 13,000 people have been killed by guns so far this year in the US, according to data compiled tracking website Gun Violence Archive.

They say another 25,000 have been injured and more than 250 police officers have been shot on duty.

Terrible ,it's really bad there.

South Chicago really takes the Cake in terms of city crime, it's scary how cheap the rent is down there as well one wouldn't understand the situation till someone travels down there.

The gunman first shot the woman he apparently knew and then headed inside the building, closely followed by several police officers. More shots were fired, apparently at random.

Mercy Hospital was quickly evacuated during the incident as armed police descended on the scene.

The hospital later confirmed that police were able to secure the area, ensuring the safety of dozens of patients.

5 people were also killed the other day when some nut started shooting in a bank in Florida. USA ka allah he hafiz hai.

US police have arrested a man suspected of killing five people, including his parents, in two separate but related shootings in the state of Louisiana.

Dakota Theriot, 21, was caught without incident on Sunday when he showed up at his grandmother's house in Virginia.

Saturday's shootings were in Livingston and Ascension, south of Louisiana state capital Baton Rouge.

Authorities said the other victims are a woman thought to be his girlfriend, and her brother and father.

Police believe Mr Theriot stole her father's grey and silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck, before driving to shoot his parents, Keith and Elizabeth Theriot.

He had a gun with him at the time of his arrest, which authorities say he dropped without confrontation.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and home invasion.

What happened on Saturday?
Authorities say Dakota Theriot was in a relationship with 20-year-old Summer Ernest, and that Mr Theriot had been staying with her family for several weeks.

At around 09:00 local time (15:00 GMT), police were called to a trailer park in Livingston parish, where they found Summer, her father Billy Ernest, 43, and her brother Tanner Ernest, 17, shot and killed in their mobile home.

Shortly after, other police officers were called for "domestic incident" in the city of Gonzales, 25 miles (40km) south of Baton Rouge, Ascension Sheriff Bobby Webre said.

When they arrived, they found Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both 51 years old, who had been shot but were still alive.

They told the officers that their son, who had recently been told to leave their house and not return, was the gunman. The couple were taken to a hospital but later died.

Second amendment made sense 200 years ago. It has no justification in USA currently. I don't know why they are not removing this stupid amendment. Canada doesn't have any such amendment and gun violence is way low here.

It is not the 2nd amendment or the gun owners that is the problem. Its the irresponsible gun owners and organizations like NRA who are against any gun regulations are responsible. I own hunting rifles and hand gun and I have concealed carry permit and I keep my guns locked in the cabinet and follow all safety instructions.

For most people here, especially in the south guns are way of life and they will not give it up.

America is a lost cause. There should mass protests in every city demanding legislators enact serious gun control measures. The Parkland kids did a commendable job but it seems the public have returned to apathy on this issue.

How does the Republican Party brand itself the party of national security when it refuses to protect the lives of their own children by continually obstructing gun safety measures ?

If Sandy Hook couldn’t change things 7 years ago then nothing will. Politicians or people in power will post a tweet and life will move on. All will be forgotten in a week until another crazy shooting takes place and the cycle will repeat itself.

Politicians themselves were shot at a baseball game 2-3 years back and it didn't do anything.

Palestinians, Afghans and Iraqis who saw guns aimed at them, jets flying above, bombs dropped, people butchered in front of them, villages and towns wiped out etc etc, did not suffer from mental illnesses but were called terrorists for resisting. But white people who commit such crimes with no real hardships have mental issues? Doesnt add up.

Another day and another mass shooting.

Nothing new to see here.

This problem can't go away until they get rid of that stupid 2nd amendment.

Why should they get rid of second amendment because some crazy weirdo or a criminal decides to commit mass killing. If someone want to kill a bunch of people they can use readily available items to do that. Why should millions of law abiding Americans need to give up their rights because of few criminals. I have a gun and most of my friends have guns and none of them have used it to commit a crime.

Why do you need a gun for? Are you a soldier? Are you a gangster? Are you a police?

We don't have 2nd amendment in Canada and you rarely hear about any mass shooting here.

First of all a sudden a free man the constitution gives me the right to keep guns. I use rifles for hunting and handgun for protection. SOmetimes we just shoot guns in a range for fun. Canada also have better health care than US. I am all for enhanced background checks and controlling the back door gun sales like private sale and in gun shows.

I am against semi auto and high capicity round rifles. Anyway, where there is a will there’s a way. What kind of gun did McVeigh use or the 911 hijackers used? They killed way more people.

Irrespective, middle ground is better , just oppose semi automatic and high capacity, that should be enough, I do support carrying arms as well, I think in India where casteism is so prevalent it should be allowed as well, my personal Opinion.

I think it would take back-to-back mass shootings where close to a thousand die including some prominent celebrities/politicians before the public opinion swings violently and forces the political class to take action.

Right now there's a small section of the population that is passionately working towards a legislative solution, a section that's vehemently opposing any action as violation of the 2nd Amendment, but the majority of the populace just shakes their head, feels sad for a moment, and then moves on the next headline in the news cycle. And them? The politicians mostly use these shootings to point score.

No thank you. What you are proposing may work as a short-term solution, but then you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Thankfully we don't have a gun culture in India now, but we can only take a look at America and hypothesize the impact on our society 50/100/150 years from now, long after the purported benefits of the solution you propose are realized.

I'm sure the American Founding Fathers would have probably been reluctant about adding in the Second Amendment if they had foresight on the situation today.

In New Zealand there is only a ban on semi-auto and automatic weapons. Hunting rifles and hand guns (for range shooting) are allowed but are much more difficult to get than in USA. We have had only one mass shooting in the last 22 years, in which a semi-auto was used and were banned within a week. The rest of the mass deaths by guns are family violence which also happens once in 10 years.

USA doesn't need to ban hunting rifles or hand guns. They should ban semi-autos and automatic guns. Also make it more difficult to get a liscense and a gun. Also guns should never be allowed in public places. In NZ guns must be stored in a safe at all time. They must be locked while being transported to a range or for hunting. Using a gun for self defence is also illegal.

The rate of gun related murders is about 4.5-4.6 per 100,000 people in the USA. In New Zealand the number is 0.19 per 100,000 people. The USA are having more than 1 mass shooting every single day for a reason and that is because it is too easy to get a gun. Military style weapons are still available and it is ok in some states to carry a gun to some public spaces to use a gun for 'self defence'.

In Texas, after the recent shootings, you are allowed to take guns into places of worship for self defence.
People say using guns for self defence is a must, but that obviously hasn't worked out in the USA. The opposite law in NZ has worked, hence the low gun deaths.

Of course the people who do these crimes are mentally ill, you can't ban mentally ill people but you can ban these weapons. NZ, Australia, Japan etc have mentally ill people, violent video games and movies, but we also barely have gun deaths, and that's because we don't allow these people to get guns and no one can get military style weapons.

No one needs guns for self defence if the medium for the violence isn't present.

The 911 hijackers had no guns, only blades.

Wasn’t McVeigh a bomber not a shooter?

I'm sure the American Founding Fathers would have probably been reluctant about adding in the Second Amendment if they had foresight on the situation today.

Then ban guns completely, India hasn’t done that, it is easily available for many people , hell my family had guns almost till 4 years ago, we are just not renewing anymore, coz its a headache.

Right now it’s almost like certain section can get it.

We also have to consider American mentality here. Why do people here think think it's ok to kill others when someone is p'ed of at something. When I was growing up, my parents always told me if I someone tries to start a fight with me at school, I need to find a teacher and let them know about it. But here in the US parent's teach their kids to Kick other kids a**.
People here think getting help for mental health is a sign of weakness.
Many here, especially the cops here don't believe in deescalating a situation. They would rather stand their ground and fight than to walk away.

This incident happened last in a city not far from where I live. This guy's son-in-law comes to visit him from Norway and he wanted to surprise his Father-In-Law, so he knocked his door and hid in a bush and jumped in front of the Father-in-law when he opened the door. The Father-in-law thought he was in danger and shot and killed his own Son-In-Law.

So take the weapon away from the people. Semi autos and Automatic weapons have no place with the general public. Hunting Rifles and hand guns are fine if used only for hunting and range shooting. They must be kept in a safe at all times and only taken out at range or hunting grounds, just like all other western countries where shootings are not a problem.

People like that are everywhere, but it is harder to get a weapon and impossible to get a military weapon.

Relatives of a black woman who was killed by police through her bedroom window are calling for federal officials to investigate the shooting.

A lawyer for the family on Monday said the white officer should be "vigorously prosecuted" as the local police department was "clearly incompetent".

Atatiana Jefferson was killed after police responded to a non-emergency call from a neighbour on Saturday.

Body cam footage shows the officer shooting within seconds of seeing her.

Allegations of police brutality in black communities have been a longstanding issue in the US.

In its initial statement, the Fort Worth Police Department said the officer had "perceived a threat" when he drew his weapon.

On Monday Fort Worth police chief Ed Kraus told reporters that the officer had resigned.

Had he not done so, Mr Kraus, said "I would have fired him for violations of several policies including our use of force policy, our de-escalation policy and unprofessional conduct".

The officer, identified by Mr Kraus as Aaron Dean, faces criminal charges from the police department's major case unit, officials said.

Earlier Ms Jefferson's sister, Ashley Carr, said she had been "killed by a reckless act" and called for a federal investigation.

Lee Merritt, a civil rights lawyer who is representing the family, said: "The investigation should be handled by someone other than the Fort Worth Police Department."

He added that the department "is on track to be one of the deadliest police departments in the United States".

Candlelit protest
Fort Worth residents held a protest outside Ms Jefferson's home Sunday evening. First planned as a vigil, the gathering became a demonstration as residents demanded justice for the 28-year-old victim.

Participants held candles and chanting: "No justice, no peace." Like Jefferson's family, many called for the officer to be fired and criminally prosecuted.

"State sanctioned violence has always been a culture for black people," said protester Michelle Andersen, at Sunday's gathering. "It's not about a training issue."

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price was present at the vigil, but left after she was approached by protesters shouting "lock him up", in reference to the officer, CBS News reported.

What happened on Saturday?
The shooting happened at about 02:30 local time (07:30 GMT).

The body cam footage of the incident shows police searching the perimeter of Ms Jefferson's property, before noticing a figure at the window. After demanding that the person put their hands up, an officer then fired through the glass.

Ms Jefferson had been playing video games with her eight-year-old nephew before she went to investigate the noise outside the window and was shot, said a lawyer representing her family.

The officers involved did not park their marked cars in front of her house and did not identify themselves as police, officials said.

The man who called police, James Smith, 62, told local media he was trying to be a good neighbour.

"If I had never dialled the police department, she'd still be alive." Mr Smith told local media. "It makes you not want to call the police department."

The officer is expected to be interviewed by the police department's major case unit on Monday.

Another tragedy in Dallas
Ms Jefferson's death comes two weeks after Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, 31, was found guilty of murdering 26-year-old Botham Jean.

Last year Guyger shot and killed Jean as he sat eating ice cream on his apartment sofa, less than 35 miles (55km) from Saturday's incident. Guyger testified she mistakenly thought she was in her own flat and believed Jean to be an intruder.

"This is a victory for black people in America," said Mr Merritt - the lawyer who is also representing Jefferson's family. "Police officers are going to be held accountable for their actions."

Texas A&M off-campus homecoming party shooting leaves 2 dead, 14 injured, police say

At least two people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured at an off-campus Texas A&M University-Commerce homecoming party Saturday, officials said.

Investigators first responded to The Party Venue in Greenville, located roughly 15 miles southwest of the school's Commerce campus, around 11:30 p.m. following complaints about cars parked on the shoulder of Highway 380 outside.

Deputies on scene heard gunshots coming from the back of the building, Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks told reporters Sunday. Meeks said he believes more than 750 people were in attendance at the "small structure" venue, and "when shots were fired, it was complete chaos as people fled for safety and deputies attempted to locate the shooter."

Inside the building, two people were found dead, the sheriff said. The deputies were trying to find the shooter, but the scene was too chaotic, and the gunman was able to flee the scene.

Meeks said authorities have no idea who the suspect is, and that partygoers have given many different descriptions of the person, whom the sheriff identified as a man who was not attending the party. He said the gunman entered the back door of the event, and used a handgun — most likely to target one person, before shooting others at the scene.

The sheriff said an estimated 90 percent of people at the homecoming party were either in their late teens or early 20s, but it's unclear how many of them were students at Texas A&M.

Authorities have questioned about 20 people, but said those in attendance either haven't provided a good description of the man or are possibly withholding information from police.

Fake bullets were found on the floor of The Party Venue, but Meeks said they were most likely part of a Halloween costume.

The shooting came the same weekend Texas A&M University-Commerce celebrated homecoming weekend. The event was related to homecoming, but wasn't a school-sanctioned event, Meeks said.

In Texas, we like our guns and we like to use them as well!

Such pathetic and sad state of affairs...

Orinda, California — Four people were killed and at least four people were injured in a shooting at a Halloween party at a rental home in a wealthy San Francisco Bay Area community, officials said. The shooting Thursday night in Orinda, near Oakland, happened at a party attended by 100 people, police chief David Cook told reporters during a press conference Friday.

Cook said no arrests have been made in the case, but he said there was no reason to believe there was an ongoing threat to the community. The chief said there was no reason to believe whoever was behind the shooting stayed in the area because the house was rented by people who aren't from Orinda.

Michael Wang, who owns the home, said he rented it out to a woman through Airbnb for what the woman said would be a family reunion for a dozen people, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. Wang said his wife reached out to the woman after neighbors called complaining about excessive noise. The woman said there were only 12 people at the party, but Wang said he could see more people via video from his Ring doorbell camera.

At least five people have been injured after a gunman opened fire on the grounds of a high school in California, officials say.

The shooting took place at the Saugus High School in Santa Clarita north of Los Angeles on Thursday, minutes before the school day was due to begin.

Police described the suspect as an Asian male wearing black clothing. Police describe the scene as "active".

The school, and other neighbouring schools have been placed on lockdown.

According to the LA Times website, the suspect is a 15-year-old boy.

Live video from helicopter showed officers swarming the school, and injured victims being placed in ambulances.

The LA County Sheriff has requested people living in the area to lock their doors and keep a lookout for the suspect as the manhunt continues.

California school shooting: Two teenage students killed in Santa Clarita

Two students, aged 16 and 14, have been killed and three others injured by a gunman who opened fire at a secondary school in California, officials say.

The victims died in a brief, 16-second gun attack shortly before classes began on Thursday at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles.

The attack came on the 16th birthday of the suspect, named by US media as fellow student, Nathaniel Berhow.

The suspect then shot himself in the head and is in a critical condition.

Students and teachers spoke of how they barricaded themselves in classrooms amid chaotic scenes, carrying out an active shooter drill that many schools have implemented in recent years following deadly attacks around the country.

What do we know about the shooting?

It was first reported at 07:38 local time (15:38 GMT) on Thursday, LA county sheriff Alex Villanueva said, adding that police were at the scene within two minutes.

The suspect was standing in the school courtyard when he took a .45-calibre semi-automatic pistol from his backpack and opened fire for about 16 seconds before turning the gun on himself, Sheriff's Captain Kent Wegener said.

"He just fires from where he is. He doesn't chase anybody. He doesn't move," Capt Wegener said.

Students barricaded themselves in classrooms under an active shooter drill for more than an hour as police tried to determine if the gunman was still at large.

Officers found six people suffering from gunshot wounds and transferred them to local hospitals. The suspect was later identified as one of those injured.

A teenage boy who killed two classmates and wounded three others at a southern California high school on his birthday before shooting himself in the head died on Friday of his wounds in hospital, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office said.

"Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, 16, a Junior at Saugus High School, was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, when he succumbed to his injuries. His mother was present at the time of his passing," the sheriff's office said in a written statement.

The boy was carrying out a deliberate plan when he shot five students at his California high school, then turned the gun on himself, a local sheriff said on Friday, but authorities said they had no clues about what sparked the bloodshed.

Two of the other five students who were shot in the Thursday morning attack at the school in Santa Clarita died of their wounds.

"We did not find any manifesto, any diary that spelled it out," Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a briefing.

The gunman was publicly identified by law enforcement for the first time on Friday as Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow. Berhow initially survived his self-inflicted gunshot wound but died at a local hospital on 3:32pm. on Friday, according to the sheriff's department.

Detectives worked through the night to follow up on tips related to the shooting in Santa Clarita, about 65 kilometres north of Los Angeles. The incident, which was caught on video, unfolded in 16 seconds, police said.

Origin of gun
Arriving at school on his 16th birthday, Berhow pulled a .45 semi-automatic pistol from his backpack in an outdoor courtyard, stood in one place and shot his victims in rapid succession before turning the gun and firing the last bullet into his head.

Villanueva said authorities did not know the origin of the gun used, or how the gunman got his hands on it.

All Hart District schools in Santa Clarita were closed on Friday, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's office said on Twitter, out of respect for the victims and their families.

Two girls aged 14 and 15 were being treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California, and were listed in good and fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said early on Friday.

At the Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita, authorities said a 14-year-old boy was treated and released. Two other students who had been taken there died. A hospital spokesman could not immediately be reached on Friday.

Villanueva identified one of the students killed as Gracie Anne Muehlberger, 15. He said the families of the other student killed and those wounded did not authorise him to release their names.

The scene at Saugus High School was reminiscent of other mass shootings at United States schools, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a former student with an assault rifle killed 17 people on February 14, 2018.

It was the 85th incident of gunfire at a school this year, according to Everytown, a gun control advocacy group.

I think that if checks are stringent and thorough then theres no problem with the 'right' people owning guns, not automatic or semi automatic weapons, 5/6 chamber guns.

The right people are over 25s with no mental issues or criminal convictions.
The guns must be secured at all times and the chambers empty of bullets when not in use and locked securely away, and always out of the reach of children.

These mass arms production companies and their evil lobbyists (NRA etc.) are a curse for the American people and the whole world.

These evil sons of their mothers consume blood of innocent children each year. Yet, they still manage to convince sheeple of need of guns.

USA is the world's greatest super power, probably ever. With the backing of a formidable military and police. Why would a civilian ever need a gun to defend themselves? What's point of so much police if they can't protect the people?

This mass weapons production complex needs wars all around the world to sell their weapons. Heck, I won't be surprised if they pop champagne bottles each time Pakistan/India tension rises. These people are dealers of death. Selling weapons to both sides of each and every conflict since time immemorial.

May Allah punish them for their crimes against the American people and the whole world!

True filth of our planet, this lot and their shameless supporters.

Ten men were shot, four of them fatally, during what police say was "very likely" a targeted shooting at a backyard football watch party in Fresno, California, on Sunday night.

Police say some 35 to 40 family and friends were watching a football game in the southeast of the city when one or more people sneaked onto the property through a side access and began shooting. They did not appear to have actually entered the house, Fresno Police Deputy Chief Michael Reid told reporters.

"Luckily, most of the women and children were inside," he said.

Some of the survivors initially listed in critical condition were now in stable condition, according to police.

Three people — all Asian men between the ages of 25 and 30 — died on the scene, Reid said during an overnight press conference. A fourth man died later at hospital. All those shot were between 25 and 35.

"It’s very likely that it was targeted — we just don’t know why," he said. "Somebody picked that house and came up and shot several times on the backside of it. It looks like there was a target."

Earlier, Lt. Bill Dooley said no suspect or suspects had been identified in the shooting, which was reported shortly before 8 p.m.

Police were canvassing the neighborhood, searching for surveillance video from nearby homes that might help them discover the motives for the shooting and who was behind it, Reid added.

The shooting in southeast Fresno followed another one earlier Sunday when a man in his 20s was shot to death at a home, according to The Fresno Bee. Police have not said whether the two incidents might be connected.

The violence also comes on the heels of a shooting at Saugus High School, north of Los Angeles, in which a 16-year-old boy opened fire on his fellow students, killing two and wounding three, before shooting himself in the head. The gunman died the next day.

CORRECTION (Nov. 18, 2019 7:10 a.m.): An earlier version of this story misspelled the name of Fresno's deputy police chief. He is Michael Reid not Reed.

(CNN)A shooter injured 11 people early Sunday on Canal Street, on the edge of New Orleans' French Quarter, and a person has been detained though not charged, police said.

Ten of the victims were transported to local medical centers, and one walked into a local hospital. Two of the victims are in critical condition, the New Orleans Police Department said.
"An individual was detained near the scene," police said, but her or his possible involvement in the shooting is under investigation.

No arrests had been made as of about 6:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. ET), according to police.

Police received a call reporting a disturbance at 3:21 a.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they could hear gunshots and found victims immediately, NOPD spokesman Aaron Looney said.

The shooting address provided by police is a brief walk from the popular Bourbon Street, where tourists are known to congregate.
Paramedics and state and federal police have also responded to the scene.

Multiple injured in shooting at Hawaii's Pearl Harbor base

At least three people were injured, two of them critically, when a gunman opened fire at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii before taking his own life, local news reports said on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the US base would only say that security forces had responded to reports of a shooting at around 2:30pm local time and that the base was on lockdown for several hours.

One witness told local media he was sitting at his computer when he heard shots fired and saw three victims on the ground.

The witness, who did not want to be identified, said he then saw the gunman who was wearing what appeared to be a navy or sailor's uniform shoot himself in the head.

Hawaii News Now said several civilians were among the gunshot victims.

The shooting reportedly took place near the south entrance to the sprawling base.

A police officer and at least five other people have died in a series of gun battles in Jersey City, in the US state of New Jersey.

Two other police officers were wounded during the incident, which ended in a shootout after two gunmen barricaded themselves in a kosher supermarket.

A motive for the incident is not yet known. But the mayor said investigators believe the location was "targeted".

Several local schools and businesses were also put on temporary lockdown.

Authorities identified the police officer who died as Joseph Seals, 39, who was part of a state-wide programme to confiscate illegal weaponry.

Speaking to reporters, Jersey City Police Chief Mike Kelly said Mr Seals was a "leading police officer in removing guns from the street".

How did the attack unfold?
Mr Kelly said violence first erupted at a cemetery just after 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Tuesday. Local media reported that confrontation between police and the suspects was linked to a murder investigation, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Police at the scene immediately came under "high-powered rifle fire", Mr Kelly told reporters, and it is believed that Mr Seals was killed while approaching the two suspects, who have not been publicly identified.

The pair fled the scene in a van and took shelter in a kosher supermarket where they held off armed police and federal officials for four hours, shooting off hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Investigators believe the two gunmen killed three people in the shop before they were shot dead. At least one survivor from the shop is being treated for injuries.

Mr Kelly said investigators also believe the suspects' van contained an "incendiary device" which was removed and taken away for examination by police disposal specialists.

What about the motivation of the gunmen?
Officials initially said they believed the shop was chosen at random and that they did not believe it was an act of terrorism.

But on Tuesday night, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said on Twitter that authorities "now believe the active shooters targeted the location they attacked".

"Due to an excess of caution the community may see additional police resources in the days/weeks ahead," Mr Fulop said, noting there has been no indication of further threats.

Officials have not elaborated on why they believe the location was targeted. They have also not commented further on whether the attack was driven by anti-Semitism.

But New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said while there was no known threat to the city, he had also placed police on high alert, especially in Jewish communities. Jersey City is part of the New York metropolitan area.

"This tragically confirms that a growing pattern of violent anti-Semitism has now turned into a crisis for our nation," he said in a tweet. "And now this threat has reached the doorstep of New York City."

Police in New Jersey say a Jewish supermarket was the target of a gun attack which left six people dead on Tuesday, including the two suspects.

No motive has yet been given, but the mayor of Jersey City tweeted on Wednesday morning that "hate and anti-Semitism" had no place in the city.

The gun battle began when the suspects killed a detective across town, then drove a rental van to the market.

Security video shows them firing on the market before going inside.

Investigators believe that the three people found dead inside the kosher market were killed by the attackers, who were also found dead inside the building following a four-hour standoff with police.

On Wednesday morning the mayor of Jersey City, Steven Fulop, told reporters that street cameras showed the suspects "slowly" drive towards the market, then "calmly open the door with two long rifles and begin firing from the street" into the shop.

Public Safety Director James Shea added that video shows they parked their van "and immediately began firing on the location". Asked how police are certain the shop was targeted, he said that they "bypassed" many other people walking on the street to attack the store.

The attackers have not yet been publicly identified, but New York media has identified them as David Anderson and Francine Graham.

Sources tell NBC that Anderson was a follower of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, whose believers say they are the true descendents of ancient Israelites.

A neighbour told NBC that Graham was a former home carer in Manhattan and met Anderson after she got hurt at work. The source added that she became a "dark person" after they met.

The New York Times and New York Post reported on Wednesday that one of the suspects had made anti-Semitic and anti-police social media posts online before the attack.

How did the attack unfold?
Jersey City Police Chief Mike Kelly said on Tuesday that violence first erupted at a cemetery about one mile (1.6km) from the grocery store just after 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Tuesday. Local media reported that confrontation between police and the suspects was linked to a murder investigation, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.

It is believed that Detective Joseph Seals, 39, who was part of a state-wide programme to confiscate illegal guns, was killed when he approached the two suspects who were driving a van that was suspected to have played a role in a recent homicide.

The pair fled the scene in the van and drove to the kosher supermarket where they held off armed police and federal officials for four hours, shooting off hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The attackers opened fire on the shop before entering, alerting two officers on foot patrol who began firing on the suspects until they were injured by the attackers' gunfire.

The threat of rising anti-Semitism
On Wednesday, the mayor said that "had they not been there and not responded, more people would have died".

Mr Kelly said investigators also believe the suspects' van contained an "incendiary device" which was removed and taken away for examination by police disposal specialists.

"It was like a warzone," one witness told CBS News. Authorities say it could take weeks, or even months, to fully investigate the extensive crime scene.

"This is one of the biggest gunfights I've seen in a while," Willy McDonald, 67, told the New York Times. "And I've been in Vietnam."

The attack put approximately 30,000 students on lockdown, unable to leave their classrooms for hours after the school day had ended. Class start times were delayed on Wednesday due to the attack.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said while there was no known threat to the city, he had also placed police on high alert, especially in Jewish communities. Jersey City is part of the New York metropolitan area.

"This tragically confirms that a growing pattern of violent anti-Semitism has now turned into a crisis for our nation," he said in a tweet. "And now this threat has reached the doorstep of New York City."

Thirteen people have been injured in a shooting at a house party in Chicago, police said.

Four people were left critically injured in the incident on the city’s South Side in the early hours of Sunday.

The victims range in age between 16 and 48 and suffered “different and various gunshot wounds to their bodies”, Chief of Patrol Fred Waller said.

Two people are being questioned, Mr Waller said. Police have recovered a revolver.

Mr Waller described three different shooting scenes at the residential location in the city’s Englewood neighbourhood.

The shooting started inside, and then more shots were fired as people began spilling out of the house.

Shots were also fired at a third property nearby.

He described the shooting as an “isolated incident”.

A gunman opened fire in a church in Texas, fatally shooting two parishioners before being killed by an armed member of the congregation.

The gunman stood up from a pew at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, a suburb of Fort Worth, pulled out a shotgun and begun firing.

Police said they were still trying to determine the attacker's motives.

White Settlement Police Chief JP Bevering praised "the heroic actions" of those who confronted the attacker.

The shooting took place at about 11:50 (17:50 GMT), during the morning service. The service was being live-streamed on social media.

Video footage showed the gunman stand up from a pew and speak to a man nearby, who gestured at another parishioner. The gunman then fired at the man he gestured toward.

The gunman fired again, at the man he had spoken to, before a member of the congregation acting as a security guard returned fire with a handgun, immediately felling the attacker. Several other parishioners also produced handguns and trained them on the attacker. It was not clear from the video footage whether any of the other armed parishioners fired shots.

The two churchgoers who were shot died later in hospital, police said.

Members of the congregation in the nearly full church were seen on the livestream ducking down behind pews as screaming filled the room.

Jack Cummings, a minister at the church, told the New York Times that the gunman had been "acting suspiciously" and drew the attention of the church's security team.

The security team is made up of volunteers from the church's membership who are licensed to carry firearms. "They saved a lot of lives today because this thing would have been a massacre otherwise," Mr Cummings said.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting "an evil act of violence".

"Places of worship are meant to be sacred, and I am grateful for the church members who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life," he said in a statement.

Witness Isabel Arreola told local broadcaster CBS DFW: "It was the most scariest thing. You feel like your life is flashing before you. I was so worried about my little one."

In September, a new law came into effect in Texas that allowed licensed handgun owners to carry weapons in places of worship.

The state has seen a number of deadly shootings this year. In August, 22 people died and 24 were wounded at a Walmart store in El Paso. The same month a gunman killed seven and wounded 20 at Odessa-Midland.

In 2017, 26 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, during a Sunday service.

Pro-gun campaigners are gathering in the US city of Richmond for a rally that the Virginia authorities fear could turn violent.

State governor Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency ahead of the protest, banning firearms from the area around the Capitol building.

The Lobby Day rally is an annual event, but several gun-control bills passed in January by the Democrat-led Virginia legislature - in a state where gun rights have historically been permissive - have angered gun owners and activists.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun rights group which organised the rally, said it expected as many as 50,000 people. Many of the buses laid on from neighbouring states were sold out before the weekend.

Various groups including armed militia, right-wing extremists and local Antifa, or anti-fascist movement, were expected to attend.

Christian Yingling, who led the Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia during the violent clashes in Charlottesville in 2017, told the BBC he was hoping for a big turnout.

"I'd like to see a lot of people, I really would. I know from chatter online that a lot of militia types are coming in from some distance... Texas, Illinois, elsewhere," he said.

He said he hoped the rally would pass peacefully but feared it would not. "I think there's enormous potential for something to go wrong."

Militia meeting
At a rural community hall about 20 miles south of Richmond, dozens of people from different militia groups gathered on Sunday night to talk about tactics for the following day and about the broader threat to gun rights they see in Virginia.

When Greg Trojan, one of the founders of the VCDL, asked how many people had travelled in from outside the state, more than half raised their hands. Many at the meeting said they hoped for a peaceful day. Some said they anticipated violence.

Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg was a frequent target for his spending on gun control efforts. So was the state governor Mr Northam - "Don't let the evil ******* win," said Mr Trojan, rounding off a speech to the room.

Cory Kepner, who travelled down from Pennsylvania, said he would go the rally, armed with his handgun, but hoped it would be peaceful.

"I'm more of a thinker than a run into trouble type of guy," he said.

President Donald Trump risked ratcheting up tensions when he tweeted on Saturday: "Your 2nd Amendment is under very serious attack in the Great Commonwealth of Virginia. That's what happens when you vote for Democrats, they will take your guns away."

The ban on guns around the Richmond Capitol building was challenged by gun rights groups, but upheld by state Supreme Court over the weekend, and the organisers, the VCDL, called for "10,000 patriots" to hand their guns to someone else and enter the Capitol unarmed.

What are the proposed gun laws?
Virginia's legislature, which the Democrats won control of in November, has approved three gun control bills. These would:

Governor Northam, who has made gun control a top priority of his administration, said he hoped to pass all three measures.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued temporary flight restrictions over the city, making it illegal to fly planes or drones.

The FBI announced last week it had arrested seven members of a neo-Nazi extremist group known as The Base, at least three of whom planned to travel to the rally on Monday.

The arrests underscored the extent to which the Lobby Day rally had been seized upon by far-right extremists. Some of those groups, including The Base, explicitly state their aim as inciting a race war in the US.

Fencing surrounds the front of the Virginia State House in Richmond
Megan Squires, an expert in online extremism from the University of North Carolina, said the open talk of inciting violence in extremist online chat groups had suddenly quietened down in the wake of the FBI arrests.

"In December, when this event was announced, those types of groups were very excited about this event - calling it the boogaloo and saying it was going to kick off the race war," she said.

"But about 48 hours ago the tenor in those Telegram groups shifted considerably, and I think that's because of the seven arrests."

The event has been compared to the deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017, where a 32-year-old counter protester was killed by a rally goer and violent clashes broke out around the city.

Media captionFootage captured the moment a car rammed into a crowd of counter-protesters in Charlottesville in 2017
But the local Antifa chapter and other left-wing groups indicated they intended to march with the pro-gun protesters, rather than against them - seemingly reducing the likelihood of violent clashes.

The rally will take place on Martin Luther King Day - a public holiday in honour of the civil rights leader.

In Richmond, police set up chain-link barriers around the Capitol in anticipation of the crowds and roads were closed off. Anyone attempting to enter the area around the Capitol will have to pass through a metal detector.

Mr Yingling said he thought the sheer number of firearms present would act as a deterrent to anyone minded to act violently.

"When you have that many guns floating around, people tend to act respectful", he said.

I believe right to bear arms is a really important part of constitution but the problem is mental issues people who are suffering are given access to these guns which is part of the problem they should go through some sort of psychiatrist check up before bieng able to purchase guns.

I know this thread has become a way to bash guns in US but thier is another side of the argument people who wanna shoot up people they will get access to illegal guns they are not going away especially knowing that there are more guns in US than people and also Chicago has more than a million guns floating around the city which are illegal because Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the country so these guns are not going away so why do people want to become sheep's in case some dude opened fire on tham that's why everyone should have access to guns (excluding kids and mentally disabled) so the massacre could be stoped just like it's happening in Texas where the shooter gets to hurt 2-3 people after that it gets shot down but in blue States the death toll could easy rise up 50 because no one is armed. Be responsible citizens and take gun training so you can protect yourselves and others.

Background checks for gun sales in the US reached an all-time monthly high of 3.7 million in March, as coronavirus fears led to long queues outside firearm stores across the country.

The sales figures far surpass those recorded in March 2019, of 2.6 million, and are the highest since the FBI’s criminal background check system was launched in 1998.

Weapons stores have been included as non-essential businesses and ordered to shut in some states, though this has resulted in legal challenges over whether this contravenes the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

The number of background checks does not mean that an equal number of guns were sold, as the overall figure does not include whether the person passed the background check successfully.

But the record number does indicate that demand has increased dramatically, with some firearm stores across the US inundated with buyers and long lines, such as this queue in Long Island, New York.

A federal judge has ordered Massachusetts authorities to allow gun shops to reopen after the governor deemed them non-essential businesses that needed to close to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

US District Judge Douglas Woodlock in Boston ruled that the restrictions ordered by governor Charlie Baker in response to the pandemic imposed an “improper burden” on the constitutional rights of citizens seeking to possess firearms.

It’s important but also misinterpreted and misrepresented by the gun lobby.

The right to bear arms was important in the 1700s when Americans were fighting the British colonialism. They were told they couldn’t arm themselves and were treated as a colony taxed higher whatnot. They decided to fight back.

But we have been free now for over 200 years. It’s 2020. Let the armed forces and the law do their job to protect you.

The patriot act has killed all the freedoms. There may not be any British armies in the US to worry about but the government which controls the people is right wing and its possible in 20 years could become like a dicatatorship. When the petrodollar collapes and the US(world too) economy crashes to rock bottom, you will need guns to protect yourself.

Swiss have guns too but Americans are just trigger happy. It's their mentality, nothing to do with the law. As they say guns dont kill people, people kill people.

Bhai, we talk about patriot act as if it’s turned US into a fascist dictatorship. Much worse things happen throughout the world even in absence of any such acts. Governments including our own Pakistan’s are always engaged in some level of such activities where undesirable elements are quietly disappeared or picked up.

But does that mean everybody should arm themselves? What chance do you have really to ward off government operatives if they really want you? Will you use a shotgun to hold off trained squads of police or federal officers carrying all sorts of automatic weapons?
This is the sort of logic dumb Americans use all the time to justify “ma raaaight to bear aaahms”!!

I think the whole thing is just silly! You want to be able to defend yourselves against the government? That government that invaded countries and toppled governments for fun? Really?

I, fundamentally, disagree with everything you have said.

Most countries in the world have gun control laws. There are no guns there. Look at the UK. They have special squads of cops who carry guns but not even regular cops carry them. You can’t find them easily or legally there.
Looks at their gun death rates compared to the US. We have more guns than people here in the US. It’s ridiculous to suggest people kill people and end it at that. They do, but you are making it easy for them to kill because you are telling them it’s ok and in fact great to own a gun.

You think all these school and mosque and synagogue and church shootings will still happen if guns were extremely difficult to get? If a teen wanted a gun to go mow down his class mates but instead asked to sit through rigorous psych evaluation I don’t think first of all he would even sit through something like and if he did I would hope he would get rejected.

I mentioned specifically after such a huge event ie the collapse of the dollar/destruction of the world economy or even a world war. The constitution wasnt only based on the British invaders but for the future too. We have no idea for sure America wont be invaded either. Nobody knows the future but we know a gun is a great weapon for self defence against anyone.

Its not hard to find guns illegally here in the UK, just like drugs many are smuggled in. Besides no guns means knives . Sure having a gun can lead a moment of madness where you use it and kill someone but if someone really wants to kill others, they dont need a gun to do it.

Many countries have guns available to the public but rarely you here of radmon shootings at schools, cinemas or other public places as you do in the US. You have to accept its not just guns but the mentality of the people. I have no issue with gun control, so we dont disagree.

This should be allowed in India as well, could end caste violence.

I don't trust tham nor should others trust tham cause they take orders and if a tyrant is to take power we are at his Mercy
