RR started his term as PCB Top brass on wrong foot. The situation didnÂ’t help much but his trigger happy nature needs to be harnessed. I always had a complain of Mani that the old guy was too polite & reactive, his successor is over killing proactiveness.
It was obvious that WK wonÂ’t have stayed longer than his initial contract, RamboÂ’s appointment has only expedited his inhabitable exit - no love lost here. He did start lots good things but at the same time took too many jerkies on his plate to chew, hence ended up with over promises- that $200mn commitment excited PP that time but I never could calculate where the money could come from!!!! It indeed not coming.
Coming to RR, I donÂ’t thing he has done much damage (read error) so far - changes in personal was always on the cards with the change of regime and to be honest the ousted personals bar WK were not striking gold either, Misbah, WY were living on edge for months now, left with dignity from their experience but this guy Mo Wasim is still holding on to be sacked (which is fine - this will make him experienced going forward). Read that ShadabÂ’s happy hours are also curtailed, which is not a bad call either - PAKÂ’s future captain must hold on to a playing spot on cricket merit.
What body blow that RR can do is going forward with his recruitments for the critical administrative positions. On cricket field I believe enough lessons had been learnt which should smoothen the process of hiring a foreign coaching staff over deshi greats and thanks to WK to stamp that - two years sacrifice isn’t that costly if it keeps the “critics” silent when it comes to hiring foreign back-room staffs for may be next 10-12 years at least - PAK & PCB might be ready by then with competent local coaches; right now even SRL has Hathura, Mahela, Ramanayek, Attapatu……
My fear is, Rameez will be soon, if not already, under immense pressure and his first safety net reaction will be to shield himself with his pals from his playing days - Moin, Aaquib, Sohail, Inzi, Wasim, Waquar, Mushi, SaqÂ…..even Latif or Ijaz at administrative roles. Apart from management qualifications, I have a bigger issue with that 90s batch as I religiously followed PAK cricket those days - PAK shouldnÂ’t go back to the days with lots of ODIs & tri series in UAE - the vehicle might shift to T20s, and which unfortunately itÂ’s a better platform for the actÂ…. On personal note, IÂ’ll take Misbah as an administrator than anyone of the 90s batch. And, I am damn sure heÂ’ll do MUCH better as an administrator than he was the selector or coach.
Anyway, for the OP - donÂ’t think Rambo has done much unpredictable, so your concern is probably a bit hyper, but indeed he can fuel it going forward. As I heard from a friend of mine here - that tool Moin is going to replace WK Â…. ThatÂ’s like replacing a S Class Mercedes with a Lada. Good luck to PAK cricket - Azam will look fantastic as WK, more so as vice captain or future captain.
