What's new

The disastrous reign of Ramiz Raja

1 demerit point for pindi pitch and we lost a few points.

Raja already admitted they made that pitch on purpose

Thank you rameez bhai, we are about to lose the second test to Australia. Doctor more pitches

lol. Had the pitch been even remotely sporting Pakistan would be in a bigger hole. Flat pitch / sporting wicket makes no different when the side is stacked with mental midgets.

We’re cruising smoothly towards becoming a true minnow.

There’s no quality and competitiveness left in our cricket.
In particular Tests.

We’ve become a woeful Test side.

It’s about time we bring Misbah back in some role to revive our cricket again.
It’s really time.

He needs to be involved. Maybe as Test coach. Or even better, the PCB chairman.

He’s the best cricketing brain in the country right now.

We have to take advantage.

Things I hate about Rameez:

1. Pointless stance against fixers but loves Wasim Akram to bits

2. Over reliance on the pale, bland brand of pakistan cricket with Babar/Rizwan as the leaders of all three teams

3. Zero knowledge of the game and the capabilities of his side, exposed big time with the pitches prepared for Australia!

4. Failure to appoint a proper coaching staff, leadership group of his national side. Saqlain and Yousuf are cheap options and bring nothing new to the table. They are working of the blue print Misbah ul Haq, at least Misbah has his own identity as a coach. What does Saqlain have?

?? Make a pitch where atleast our own bowlers can take wickets.

By making flat wixkets we not only allowed australia to score runs but are now also giving wixkets

Rameez has reportedly also told commentaors not to doscuss the pitch anymore

Rameez has reportedly also told commentaors not to doscuss the pitch anymore

You can't blame the pitch. Both sides have now batted on it. Australia scored 556/9 and Pakistan is struggling at 110/8.

The gap in quality with bat and ball for both sides speaks for itself.

Major was right. The pitches have been rubbish since ramiz came both in domestics or internationally. I blame this as the root cause.

Warned people from the beginning that Ramiz is a narcissistic, micromanaging populist who plays to the galleries with sweet talk of aggressive cricket and grandiose schemes, and will prove an utter disaster.

- We still do not have permanent coaches. Saqlain is only there on a 12 month contract. Tait has few coaching qualifications like Hayden but hired by Ramiz because of the simpleton logic that they're Aussies so must possess some cricketing superpower.

- Ordering dead pitches for Australia series. Despite all the empty talk of fearless cricket, Ramiz clearly still has PTSD from all those beatings suffered at hands of Australia in the 1990s so has produced dull surfaces totally negating home advantage. What was wrong with the pitches last year vs South Africa ?

Toby Lumsden (an Aussie obviously) is flown in days before 3rd Test in another embarrassing PR mission. What can he do in a few days ? The previous PCB regime brought Andy Atkinson in 12 months before the South Africa series.

- Orders commentators to not even SPEAK about the pitches ! Height of insecurity and pettiness.

- Claimed credit for Pakistan's T20 World Cup run which was nothing to do with him. We have 10 years of experience of UAE pitches. This narcissist even claims he told Babar Azam what fields to set vs India. He also interfered with the squad selection.

- Obsessed with harebrained and unrealistic schemes, e.g. Quadrangular tournament featuring India, womens'/U19
PSL, ordering drop-in pitches when we should be improving our regular turf pitches, wants to build a new stadium in Islamabad when our other stadiums are rundown.

- Constantly making statements on YouTube.

The only positive decision I can think of are those Junior player contracts.

The pitches have been like this in domestic cricket making Imam Ul Haq look like the next Hayden.

Yes more of popularity things.

Sajid Nauman that's the standard of spin for the trophy which is named Qadir Shameful Ramiz should wake up from slumber and instead of harping for Psl should focus on domestic cricket is he PCB chairman or PsL chairman

Can't blame Ramiz. Our batsmen have been playing defensively for the last 10 years. It appears this has become a cultural problem now. Azhar Ali has played like this forever. This is one series too many for Fawad, Australia ended his ODI career in 2014 and have now ended his test career as well.

Ramiz is definitely accountable for the pitches prepared - he openly admitted on YouTube that they prepared dull surfaces to negate Australian bowlers.

He talks a good game but actions speak louder.

So far Rameez hasnt put much of a foot wrong but how he has handled this pitch issue is very embarrassing. And to actually tell the commentators that they shouldn't mention anything about it while on air just doesn't bode. well. This defensive mindset really needs to change. Not having enough faith behind your team really by preparing flat pitches and then still have the audacity to defend this decision. Yes Rambo has done well with a lot of other things and full credit to him for bringing about that change but it is in contradiction to his fearless cricket brand. I'm afraid this decision with the pitches is going to end up breaking a lot of cricketers.

RAmiz living in his bubble instead of day dreaming and building castles he should have learnt something from Nick Hockley who was here

My understanding is that Ramiz has been imploring out groundsmen to prepare spinning tracks like you find in India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka but our curators are just incompetent.

on spinning tracks Lyon would hav ran through us

If there is anything that has moved in the right direction over the last year or so in the country, it has been cricket. The positives far outweigh the negatives during the time of RR.

This petty blame game is now getting quite annoying.

"We didn't pack the stadium for a test match. Blame Ramiz Raja. Boohoo"

He is running the show, if he isn't getting what he wants why can he not get rid of the groundsman?

People blaming Ramiz Raja need to seriously stop it and get a life, he is just an easy target. No where else in the world is the cricket board chairman or even the coach targeted early on in their tenure. In Cricket, the captain is everything and the PCB under Ramiz have empowerd the captain ie Babar to select the players he wants.

Sadly Babar as we saw in the PSL is just an incompetent and uninspiring leader and the Pakistani players are not good enough to thrive in pressure situations for long time periods. These are the same set of players ie Azhar Ali, Imam ul Haq, Fawad Alam and Co who have failed in the past ten years as well.

We are the only team in the world which keeps sticking to TTfs who have a history of non impactful performances against the big teams.

Ramiz did not put appropriate support structure around this team. Babar has his shortcomings but Ramiz is out of touch with reality and wants to impose his out dated ideas on the team. That's on him.

Not really, Ramiz has appointed an experienced qualified head coach in Saqlain and a bowling coach in Shaun Tait and he appointed the batting coach in Yousaf. The players have everything they needed but they still fell short and that is on them.

Saqlain at best was an assistant coach. He doesn’t come across as a great spin bowling coach either

PCB has been a total failure at acquiring the services of a proper head coach!

Well if he wants to hog all the credit a-la WC victory against India then he needs to be criticised as well.
He openly admitted to doctoring and producing patta wickets resulting in a demerit point.

Tbh the role of a coach at this level is over rated. The players have failed and some of them ie Imad, Azhar Ali, Fawad, Nauman, Sajid need moving on wheras Hasan Ali needs dropping after this series.

Rameez is a hypocrite of highest order. He was still a commentator and operating his youtube channel he would have been criticising Babar and Co. for their negative bowling lines and defensive mindset and railing PCB for creating this dead wickets and criticised the same team heavily for not playing with aggression.

Pakistan is not a champion team like Australia and India where it has 5-6 established world class cricketers to carry the team without a proper coach.

These guys have so many flaws that can be pointed out by level 4 coaches working in County and Australia

A proper coach is not going to address these flaws at the international level. The players we have are a reflection of our domestic cricket

What was so bad about Wasim Khan, apart from appointing Misbah for three roles (at the start) and failing to host uninterrupted PSL seasons?

WK was going to move on at some point because he had been away from his wife and kids for a while.

There was nothing wrong with him (or Misbah). We are just an impatient nation wanting overnight results

Saqlain and Tait are only there on a 12 month contract, so neither are permanent appointments.

Both were confirmed just days before the start of the series so had limited time with the team - with Tait only arriving before the 2nd Test. Is this how you prepare for a massive historic series ?

Tait has little coaching experience, brought in after Philander was sick of PCB's unprofessionalism. Ramiz seems to be doing everything on a wing and a prayer.

The good thing is his days are numbered as PCB Chairman as IK is set to be booted out.

TBH thats a very Ramiz line of reasoning. Do you kno wwhat a coach does or like Ramiz you also think that a coach is telling Azhar that Beta forward defeinse aise khelo?

Saqlian had no takers and this experienced qualified coach was appointed without due process. Tait's coachig credentials include a stint wit Afghanistan and M. Yousaf has no experience of coaching in a team environment.

Ramiz has set up this team to fail.

The same rag tag group of coaches were appointed for the World Cup and Pakistan almost won it. Saqlain, Hayden who had no real coaching experience and joined the team in Dubai.. and Philander who was a consultant.

You answered your question yourself with that first bit. How much more bad did you want things to be?

That was Misbah team with a Misbah plan, i would argue that some of Babar's shortcoming as a captain would have been masked if he was surrounded by decent support staff.

Will Ramiz Raja release a video to defend the team now?

He released a video immediately after the heroic draw in the second test. How about now when the team has lost the series?

Or does he just want to bask in the glory when it suits him but go missing and throwing the team under the bus in bad times?

Ramiz knows that majority of Pakistanis don't care about Test Cricket so there will not be a huge reaction especially from the media or former players.
He is well aware that if we win the ODI series and the T20 game then all will be forgotten and the team will be praised to new heights.

So Ramiz will only talk after the ODI series win.

Ramiz Raja needs to stop putting his stupid nose into every small matter.

He is such a narcissist. Just loves to talk. Loves to meddle.

Nauseating.

He will be out of his post soon. Awful appointment. The situation with the pitches is humiliating and his statement did not help either. He needs to move on now after this serial humiliation.

His pitch doctoring led us to lose the series to aus

Not only the series but his handling of the situation was very poor and unprofessional. He's shown he has no tact or sensitivity. He literally embarrassed the whole nation at such an important time. Can you imagine CEO of ECB or CA acting like this?

The result of being a political appointee. The pcb constitution is a big joke

Ramiz raja should be shown the door he kicked misbah and waqar out and that’s more then enough. Now get someone who can actually do their job.

Did anyone not find it hilarious that PRaja completely vanished and went underground after the test series loss. But as soon as Pakistan won the ODI series he couldn't wait to get down to the the presentation ceremony.

Total clown.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja faced significant criticism over the nature of pitches during the side's Test series against Australia in March. In a historic first tour to Pakistan in 24 years, the pitches played spoilsport throughout the Test series as the first two Tests – in Rawalpindi and Karachi – ended in a draw, while Australia registered a fine victory in the final Test in Lahore to clinch a series victory.

The first Test dished out a dull draw where Pakistan declared on 476/4 after playing 162 overs in the first innings, while Australia scored 459. The hosts didn't lose a single wicket in the second innings while scoring 252, with both openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq scoring centuries. A host of former Pakistan cricketers including ex-captains Inzamam-ul-Haq and Salman Butt, as well as Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Hafeez among others were critical of the surface throughout the game.

Earlier this week, Butt made a major revelation on Ramiz Raja, saying that during the side's tour of Bangladesh, the PCB chairman video called him to show pitches.

“He used to ask Babar to let him see the pitch on a video call. He interferes in team's affairs a lot,” Butt revealed, as quoted by Pakistan television outlet Geo from the former captain's official YouTube channel.

“It is the height of interference. Whether it's the pitch, the team or even the selection of commentators. Fear god. Where is the professionalism? Where else in the world do you see such things happening?” Butt further said on his channel.

Earlier, Australia wrapped up their tour of Pakistan with a three-wicket victory in the one-off T20I at the Gaddafi Stadium. While Australia won the test series, hosts prevailed in the one-dayers, making a comeback from 0-1 down to beat the side 2-1.

Salman Butt on Ramiz:

"[The] PCB chairman claims that every domestic player earns up to Rs5 million annually but that is actually not the complete truth. Only those domestic players will be able to earn up to Rs5 million annually who will feature in every match of every format in a domestic season. However, the truth is that hardly ten players are named in every format of the domestic season."

"What about the financial future of those players whom PCB does not consider to play all three formats?"

"Ramiz Raja believes in kingship where no one is permitted to ask him counter questions, not even press or specialists of that field. He does not want to answer anyone."

"The chairman is interfering in the issues of the national team. Is the world’s number one batter unaware of how to do a pitch inspection that a chairman of the board is asking him to have a video call so he can take a look at the pitch for decision making? How would have Babar Azam felt when Ramiz Raja would have asked him for a video call for the sake of pitch inspection?"

"Ramiz Raja is making slaves rather than leaders through such policies"

Interesting part:

Note 3:

The PSL Allowance amounting to Rs. 14,181,570 being claimed by Mr. Sethi and certain other allowances/benefits amounting to Rs. 7,274,429 are disputed by PCB. The payment of the PSL Allowance was stopped and Mr. Sethi has filed a claim in the courts for payment of the same. PCB has filed a recovery claim against Mr. Sethi for repayment of the other allowances/benefits amounting to Rs.7,274,429

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed the six-month expenses of the chairman Ramiz Raja, here on Saturday.

The cricket board shared the document comprising the unaudited expenses availed by the chairman Ramiz from October 2021 to 22 March 2022.

As per the document, the PCB chairman spent around four million rupees over the course of six months, with more than two million spent on domestic travel.

The PCB Chairman also spent over half a million on vehicle allowance, over a hundred thousand on utility and mobile allowance, and 0.25 million on personal security guards and servants.

It is apropos to mention here that this is the first instance after September 2021, that the PCB has shared the expenditure details of Ramiz. Whereas, the expenses of the former PCB chairmen used to be updated on a regular basis.

Ramiz speaking in an media interaction:

“Since we have achieved excellent results. I am not in favour of any changes in selection. Babar Azam is the more powerful captain and is a very important part of the selection.”

Pakistan junior league failed.

Shaheens injury rehab didnt start on time and could be out for longer

Not a fan of Ramiz but why does an unreliable person like Butt is quoted. Butt hates Ramiz cause he has been vehemently against fixers.

I meant as the franchsing model they tried to dom no one bought the teams

At least they are trying something NEW and innovative. At least they are willing to take risks.

Any good business person will tell you that experimentation, innovation and risk taking is very important for long term success.

Sure, this may not be fruitful monetarily in the short run, but there's a chance it would be beneficial both monetarily and cricketing wise

I meant as the franchsing model they tried to dom no one bought the teams

It isn't that no one wanted to buy it, it's just PCB had set a certain price and didn't get what they were looking for. From an investor perspective, it's new & risky so its hard to pay up top dollars for something that hasn't been done before.

It makes sense for PCB to not sell short either if they believe this will work. It remains to be seen but I really hope it works. For a lot of fans, it's exciting to see & find new talented cricketers that can potentially be the next big thing and this gives the young players a big platform to perform & get noticed. Even an U-19 WC isn't really well promoted or broadcasted and I think cricket in general has a very under developed market for showing off these young stars. You look at North America sports like NHL where the U-20 World Juniors is super competitive, fun & people love to watch it. Or a lot of the college sports as well like march madness in NBA.

Maybe it will fail but instead of criticizing, we should be applauding PCB for trying something new & bold instead of running the same old crap they have been running.

According to reports, atleast 30 corporate entities and 3 existing psl franchises promised to buy out the teams in April.

However because of the deterioration in the political, economic situation in the country, the massive fluctuation in the USD PKR exchange rate and the fact the PCB was unable to secure the title sponsorship, live streaming rights at the base prices that they wanted everyone backtracked and left the PCB dry at the last minute.

Some entities demanded the PCB sell the teams to them at steal prices ie 10% of the base prices. The PCB went like screw you, we are not giving you our product for free, we will pay for it ourselves early on and build the product up.

PCB made the right decision, can't allow psl franchises and corporate entities to cheap arm it. Bad for business in the long run.

The PCB should have launched the PSL immediately in 2008-2009, we waited for 6-7 years out of the fear of failure.

Even back then in 2015-2016 all stakeholders were scared, Sethi had to literally beg the franchise owners to pay an extra $500,000-$1,000,000 on top of what they were initially looking to pay for a team out of patriotic reasons.

The PCB title sponsorship, broadcasting deal back then was a pittance early on but with every season the PSL product proved it self and you then saw the PCB sell its third team for $6 million a year and get a better broadcast, title sponsorship deal in subsequent seasons.

If the PSL started in 2008-2009 we would not have been playing catch up with the IPL.

The BCCI has plans to introduce a Women's and U19 IPL T20 tournament next year and I guarantee they will do it for a profit. The PCB is rightfully taking these steps viewing these ventures as an investment which will grow in value in 3-5 years and give a decent ROI.

Do you really think PCB could have launched PSL under Ijaz Butt? Not just that, the 2009 SL bus tragedy, consistently deteriorating security situation(cause I remember going out in crowded places during 2008-2010 was kinda scary). Even after Butt's tenure ended, Zaka Ashraf was hell bent on destroying relations with every cricket board. The only positive during that time period was the wt20 win in 2009 that literally came out of nowhere. That was probably the darkest period in Pak Cricket history for as long as I have watched.

Applauding for what? For the sake of coming up with a stupid idea and when it failed, instead of backing out still trying to continue due to ego?

I said it the first day that this was gonna fail, no one is waste money on such a dumb league as it brings no benefit to investors.

North America has a sporting culture. Pakistan doesnt have a sports culture. Remember the u19, world cup, only the few people follow it.

The economic conditions going bad were predicted in june...

I will put the issue in simple terms.

1. Not every dick and harry can start a crickrt league. Thank najem sethi for psl.

2. There is no benefit for a person having a franchise team that winsm the benefit comes from the marketing, they need players to stay with them to market and brand the tram. U19 franchise model cant exist because after an year those players will have be forced their way out. Each year there would be new batch of players joining and that doesnt help if you want to earn money from marketing

That culture was built into North America. They didn't wake up and were born with it one day.

Goal should be to grow that sports culture within Pakistan too.

culture isnt built through have a u19 franchise model.

First improve PSL, do better team branding and marketing.

Look at IPL, IPL success didnt leadd to an u19 franchise league but franchise league in sports like Kabaddi and hockey. Now they have a sporting culture.

Mark my words. India will launch an U19 IPL and an IPL for women next year and they will still make it a commercial success. Pakistan can no longer afford to fall behind. The PCB should think of out of the box solutions for eg if a couple of promising players are in earthed from the PJL who have every capability of playing in the PSL, the PSL franchises should be made to pay a fee to acquire the services of the PJL player. The PJL franchises will benefit massively from the media hype, marketing if they unearth talented players who graduate to the PSL or play for Pakistan and win games, tournaments for Pakistan

The PCB are giving away 95% of their central pool revenues to the PSL franchises. There is no other league in the world which gives this much to the franchises, it is now up to the PSL franchises to up their game and find ways to make money on their own rather than just demanding hand outs from the PCB all the time.

IMO the u19 league could work very well if there is good club cricket and school cricket. You can then scout the talent there. And players getting shunted out in a year or two would actually make it more interesting especially for the coaches to train the new bunch of young kids with basics every year and then they could be passed over to senior cricket. Marketing would be a big problem though as not many people are interested in watching unknown people playing cricket. But that model would require more time behind the scenes for the coaching part and coaches to really know what kind of players the kids are and what their respective roles should be which would require the team mentors to spend a good time/training camp pre and post tournament which might be unfeasible for the coaches.

But it's an exciting idea which needs to be managed well. The lack of club and school cricket is going to be a massive hurdle. But atleast we could start with something.
