The end for Yuvraj Singh? - Tribute thread

Too early to say. The symptoms are still visible.

He clearly struggles when good balls are bowled. He is still good in putting way bad or average balls.

But today he was amazing.
 
Its not the first time he's played like this in last couple of years. T20 innings vs Pak/Aus/Aus again in WT20. He is showing flashes of brilliance and then again loses his way.


But boy, when he gets going it is a treat to watch. That helicopter shot :bow:


Today was a great day of IPL, Gauti-Veeru-Yuvay all hitting runs. The boys from Golden era of Indian cricket :(
 
True. Yuvi is finished 99%.

I would be pretty shocked if he came back.

He can put away bad balls but absolutely makes a mess when it comes to good balls.

I must admit I thought he was finished too after that innings in the world t20 final and nothing he has done since has shown me otherwise. But perhaps we were wrong to write him off as there seems to be some life left in the old dog yet.

Yuvraj is an Indian ODI-T20 legend, in fact a global legend
 
Yuvraj has had incredible shelf life, gotta say.

He made his debut in a Champions Trophy (then the KnockOut Trophy) back in 2000! He scored a ton in a winning cause in that tournament against Australia and knocked them out, and remains the only player from that tournament to be playing today.
 
I am admittedly biased when it comes to Yuvi and Viru

He made 84 then not a ton ,and I remember that tournament so well almost felt like India was announcing itself tot he world,we won't be the same.

That match against Australia was truly special

First, Sachin sledged McGrath and took him on, pulling him for 2 sixes
Then Yuvi with the bat.
Then Prasad hits the last ball for a 6!
Zak uprooting Waugh's stumps
finally, Yuvi and Robin Singh fielding like champions!

Yup,the best time to be an Indian fan,sad that we lost the finals but to a very good all round performance.
I remember my friend telling me "see when Anwar hit two consecutive 100 and Pak got knocked out now dada has hit two and Kiwis will chase it".
 
its weird seeing Yuvi still playing almost feels out of place still playing in 2017 hes someone that was so synonymous with my childhood and the mid 2000s.

Yuvraj is also heading the Afridi way although he is a much better version of the latter. he either clicks or doesn't. Too bad for the Pakistan team that he did today.
 
A limited over great of the game.

One of the major contenders for no. 5 position in all time XI.
 
One thing I noticed is that this Yuvi no longer has the devil may care body language he used to have in the past. He sort of realizes that his day in India colors are numbered, so when he's out to bat, you sense a genuine sense of desperation on him, to score well and score fast.
 
One of the great match-winners of this era. He's a legend in my view.
 
To still be performing at the top level after cancer is nothing but gutsy. Yuvi is truly amazing and his commitment is admirable.

He's definitely weakened.

He no longer has the timing or the coordination he had in the past. But with his huge golf swing, if he connects , it goes miles.

What I like now is that unlike his previous comeback, Yuvi KNOWS, he's not the same guy anymore.

To survive he's made quite a few changes to his gameplan. I still think he could be exposed by sheer pace and guile like what SA packs. But I see him purely as a bonus player - No liability on the filed, and on his good day will smoke it at a cool SR (like yesterday) , otherwise he'll still do something at close to 100 SR for a few overs and get out.

Since the T20WC debacle in 2014, he tries to slog and get out if he's off in form, instead of sticking around. Dhoni's batsmanship is the much bigger worry.
 
May be this is his last outing in ODI's, along with MSD. It would be a fitting end to their dream careers if these two could play a part in India retaining the CT17.
 
Yuvraj is one of last sensational batsmen of the 2000 breed era, be it India or any other team in the world.

I think Pakistan would kill to have someone like him in the team, even in his current weak state.

He would walk into our lineup at any position.

That tells all about the batting standard of Pakistan.

One of the last great batters of India who I admire for his sheer skill and talent.

They don't make Yuvraj's anymore in Indian cricket. It won't be easy to replicate his match-winning skills and his sheer aura.

Good career for India and a great cricketer.

We still make them, we just give them different names like Virat and Hardik :)
 
Yuvraj can still hit on some of those god days.

But more often than not, he will fail.

Considering his age, there will always be more eyes on his performance than someone like Rohit or Rahane.

If Hardik becomes even half the cricketer Yuvraj is , that would be an achievement.

Yuvraj is a match winner who won India the 2011 World Cup.


I won't talk about Kohli simply because he is on another level and will retire as ATG if nothing else hampers him .

Yuvraj played an important role in India winning both the recent world cups, the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 50 overs World Cup.
 
What really strikes me regarding Yuvraj is his mannerism. For a guy of his stature and ability, Yuvraj has always been calm out there. Just shows how secure he is inside out as a person. One of the cleanest strikers of the ball of all time but no arrogance about him. Gets along well with everyone. He even made up with foes like Flintoff, KP off field.

People should also know his personal life also hasn't been as easy. Yograj was a tough father to deal with and has been a constant trouble maker. For the way he's dealt with that, the cancer thing just proves what a champion human being he is really. Very inspiring

Yuvraj Singh, the India all-rounder, is not quite ready to bid adieu to cricket.

Yuvraj's career has been under a lot of speculation for the last couple of years. The 37-year-old last played an international game in June 2017 during India's tour of West Indies.

Picked up Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2019 player auction for his base price of Rs 1 crore, despite a poor season last time, he scored a 35-ball 53 against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday, 24 March. It was his first fifty-plus score since May 2017. However, Mumbai lost the game by 37 runs while chasing a stiff 214.

Yuvraj's last fifty also came against the team from Delhi, then known as Delhi Daredevils, two years ago when he was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The move to Kings XI Punjab in 2018 did nothing to revive the left-hander's career as he went on to score only 65 runs in eight matches in that IPL season, his worst till date.

Despite his recent struggles, the all-rounder insisted he will think about retirement only when he stops enjoying cricket.

"When the time comes, I will be the first one to hang up my boots," he said at the post-match conference.

"Last two years have been up and down. couldn't decide what I wanted to do but main thing was [remembering] why I played the game when I started playing the game. I played the game because I enjoyed playing cricket. That time, I was not playing for India. I was playing for the under 14s, under 16s. So till the time I enjoy playing cricket, I will play."

Yuvraj also added that he took advice from Sachin Tendulkar, who he felt could relate to his situation about playing towards the end of a long career.

"I spoke to Sachin [Tendulkar] as well and he has gone through such a time when he was 37-38-39. Talking to him makes things easier for me."

Should the sher of Punjab be given one last chance at the CWC.

He is a legend and i am not happy with the way he has been discarded for mere mortals like Rayudu, Jadhav etc.

Remember a wounded lion is still mightier than a healthy sheep.

He maybe old and his reflexes may not be what they were in his peak but his experiences and passion for the game + his natural ability still makes him a threat.
 
Yuvraj singh still got more match winning ability than rayudu, jadhav etc etc but the problem is that he isn't consistent.

Problem is that he is just a soft target now for all big defeats.

CT final, everyone failed but only Yuvraj got kicked out while Dhoni maintained his position.

People forgot Yuvraj played a game changing knock against Pakistan during group stages,

Like you said, he is still way better than Jadhav/Rayudu.

We have statistical heroes in our middle order but not a single match winner.
I hope he at least gets a retirement match after the world cup

He still has the ability to win matches, should be preferred over jadhav and rayudu.

Strange because at least since 2014, our replacements haven't been half as good as Yuvraj.

Yuvraj is a player who if plays 10 LOIs, wins at least 3 on his own and is a decent contributor in 6-7/10 matches. India kicked him out for 3/10 record which a supposedly great team can't afford as they say i don't agree with that still.

He would have been an asset for many teams still.

That said, he is clearly not the Yuvraj of prior to 2011. His reflexes have slowed, he is late on the pull and hook shot and infact looks very ungainly.
